I don’t think anyone knows a for sure method yet. I’ve been snooping around on the Net the last couple of days hoping that I’d be able to find someone who is selling these unlocked, but there doesn’t seem to be anybody yet. (Didn’t even get a hit with eBay).

There is someone, however, from Canada that’s selling unlock codes for Telus’s HTC Hero via eBay, but I have no idea if it’s legit or not. And each code is like $25 which is pretty pricey, IMO.

Hope some online vendor will start carrying these suckers in the near future because I want one!!

When those other 2 companies are in the US and we have reception everywhere we need it, especially in Northern and Western Wisconsin, I am glad we’re CDMA. It won’t matter in 2 or so years anyways as we’ll be LTE with the rest of the world. Maybe if GSM existed where I need it to then I’d change my tone. I love being able to make phone calls when I’m camping but my AT&T toting relatives can’t! JACKASS!

For all you folks boasting about VZW and LTE, it seems you are unaware that LTE is a UMTS based technology. Now you tell me how your wonderful new droid will work in 2010 with VZW’s LTE network????

Yeah, the Droid is certainly a competitor to the Iphone. If I did not have the Iphone right now and was looking for a smartphone, I would consider the Droid. Its nice to see Motorola get back on their feet again. Like a lot of users the big beef is on AT&T. Thats were Verizon has the big edge, as far as the phone, I have my doubts it will surpass the Iphone. Competition is great though. I’m curious to see what Apple has in store for next year. Multi-tasking, camera flash and flash on the browser are what I’m hoping for.

Depends on whether or not you actually want to use it to TALK to someone on it. iPhone is only ATT and their coverage SUCKS. Driving from one side of town to the other, you lose connection repeatedly and if you are going out in the country between urban centers, forget it. Other than that, the browser and apps are a heckuva lot better on the iPhone.

@Danny, settle down, as boy genius mentioned in the article, iPhone and radioshack have been in talks for quite awhile. Sorry to tell you but the droid is no threat to ATT. Apple and ATT just had their best qtr’s ever. So that partnership is doing just fine. And if network coverage was so bad on big blue, then explain how 3.2 million people chose the iphone during July, august, and September.

To add to my previous post where I said the rep at VZW “whipped out his iPhone 3GS”. I meant he had his own iPhone 3GS even though he works at VZW. I thought that was crazy! I wonder if he can get fired for having that on him in the store?!

Got our phones about 4 hours ago. So far, no problems.

So, to all those claiming what a pile of junk it is…WTF? Are you all high or something? Maybe put down the crack pipe for a few days and reality may return.

This phone is solid feeling and seems to be well made.

Plus, we paid $149.99 each for 2 phones and got 50% of any accessories, which we loaded up on!!

Well the problem is above those keys just under the screen the backlight shines threw where it is supposed to be black. Also the screen wiggles unlike my other one which was solid. I just want a phone that is right if I’m gonna pay this much for it.

Looks like AT&T is feeling threatened by the Droid and now all of a sudden pushes the availabiltiy of the iPhone nationwide through new selected 3rd party retailers.

Bout time. I like it when the bigger carriers feel threatened enough to start being more competitive.

Now all we need is a newer carrier to sell the iPhone with a lower priced data plan……

that was for mobile web only- didn’t effect html devices, advanced multimedia phones, PDAs, or blackberries.

Agreed! I’m a Sales Rep for Verizon too… I encourage people to read sites like this and then ask around to different reps at the store and make sure their information is consistent. Its too bad some sort of Tech background isn’t a requirement to sell this stuff…

Hey buddy, lets not generalize about one bad experience at a Verizon Store. I happen to be a sales rep for a Premium Verizon Retailer and I pride myself on being knowledgeable about what I sell. You were probably in an Authorized Agent for Verizon and there in lies your problem. Just like corporate Apple stores, corporate Verizon stores can be very helpful.
