Mardi Gras Floats A'Rolling...!!

The 2012 Mardi Gras parades that I designed for both Mirthco, Inc. and Carnival Artists are beginning to hit the streets of Mobile, Daphne and Fairhope!
The Order of Polka Dots rolled Thursday night, The Order of Inca rolled Friday night, and The Mobile Mystics rolled this afternoon!
Here's a couple of pics of the Polka Dots' "Archie" float, along with the original design drawing:

Built by Steve Mussell's MIRTHCO, Inc. the float sculpture stays pretty true to the drawing!

MARDI GRAS Begins!

Mobile's OFFICIAL Mardi Gras celebration kicked off with the Conde Cavaliers Parade Friday night. Many more parades to follow, many balls, parties, and events.
Once again I designed a few of the parades to the builders' specifications as a representation to the Krewes and as a guide for the sculptors and painters, and, once again, was mainly uncredited in the little insert in the local fishwrapper/newspaper.
For clarity, for Steve Mussell's MIRTHCO, Inc., I design/render the floats for The Mystic Stripers and for The Order of Polka Dots.
For Craig Stephens and Carnival Artists, I design/render the floats for The Order of Inca, The Mobile Mystics, Neptune's Daughters, Maids of Jubilee, Order of LaShe's, Knights of Ecor Rouge, The MCA Children's Floral, and various 'specials' and 'once-offs' like the new title floats for The Shadow Barons and The Conde Explorers.
Several of the floats, and some ENTIRE parades, are rented by OTHER organizations and are seen rolling more than once. The design drawings will appear on my website, www.brentoons.com , a day or so AFTER they roll for the first time. Past parades also are featured prominently on the site.

WOW! What a Whirlwind!

Sorry I haven't posted anything of late!
I have been VERY busy, and have had quite a bit going on!
First, I am a GRANDPA! Preston Daniel Hundley was born on January 7th, 2012, weighed 7 lbs, 11 oz, and was 21 inches long! He arrived early enough to make it home Monday for the BCS National Championship beatdown of LSU by THE University of ALABAMA Crimson Tide.
Mother, Baby, and father all doing fine.

Strangely Surprised....And Entertained!

I don't know if it was the medication or the ungodly early time of day, but I was strangely surprised this morning by a movie that, when I saw the ads-- and particularly the star-- was initially unappealing to me.

Jax, our Maltese, had climbed on top of my stomach and began licking me in the face to let me know that it was time for me to get up and let him outside. I didn't want to wake my lovely wife Alice, so I turned on the coffee pot, went out and got the paper, and flipped on the television.

Based on a video game, filled with special-effects, and starring Jake Gyllenhal (who looks like a 'Bizarro' Toby McGuire!), "PRINCE of PERSIA: The Sands of Time" was actually VERY entertaining.

Once you get past all the Anglo (white) actors playing Arabian characters (and speaking with British accents), the movie IS quite action-packed and entertaining. Combining elements of "Aladdin", "Gladiator", and the swashbuckling of "Pirates of the Caribbean", I found myself interested and actually enjoying this movie! Weird...!

Later, after watching (between dozing off into cat-naps) the Saints top the Panthers, I flipped over and --to my surprise-- caught the beginning of "The A-Team".

Again, a movie that I never intended to watch turned out to be an adequate homage to the classic 80's television show of the same name. Explosions, stunt driving, fistfights. Betrayed by the covert operatives who hired them. I was reminded of the recent based-on-a-comic book movie "The Losers". Then I remembered that the ORIGINAL A-Team did it FIRST! The only thing I didn't care for was the standard hollywood "evil CIA-corrupt Army officer" bullcrap.

All-in-all, though, I actually truly enjoyed both flicks.

After their project Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension delivered cable TV’s highest-rated movie of the year, Dan Povenmire and Jeff Marsh are on a roll. Hollywood Reporterrevealed today that the dynamic duo have made a deal with Disney TV to produce another season of their blockbuster animated series for Disney Channel and to develop a feature film as well. They will also develop a pilot for the cabler, which will likely be a spinoff of Phineas & Ferb.

Well, the "Phineas & Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension" movie has aired on The Disney Channel, Disney XD, and ABC. I was privileged to be a (VERY small) part of the production, and tickled to actually get a screen credit for my tiny contribution!

I rendered some early-stage storyboard roughs for the musical number early in the movie where Dr. Doofenshmirtz meets his even MORE evil doppelganger from the 2nd Dimension. He is the ruler of this universe, and they perform a song-and-dance called "I've Found a Brand New Best Friend (And It's Me!)"

Working on a poster for The Order of LaShe's, one of the Mobile Mardi Gras krewes. Also roughing out comps for a "Queen's Train" for next year's Neptune's Daughters queen.

Nope. Los Angeles, USA, just a few months back... this is what happened while we slept, while we went to school,

went to work, while we raised our families. While we watched CNN or CBS, ABC or NBC, or listened to NPR or read

the New York Times and never saw, read or heard a minute of coverage of this travesty while we let our guard down

and we let the Marxist/Socialist/Communist Left and Progressives creep into our schools, the unions, the media and

our government banners and posters with the images of Ernesto 'Che' Guevara (Castro's executioner) and Lenin

would make Fidel Castro, Joe Stalin or Karl Marx proud to be an American!

A May Day rally in Los Angeles , co-sponsored by the SEIU and various communist groups, as well as other unions,

reflected yet another step in the normalization of self-identified communist and socialist ideologies in the Obama era.

Not only did the SEIU help to organize the rally in conjunction with communists, they marched side-by-side with

communists, while union members carried communist flags, communists carried union signs, and altogether

there was no real way to tell the two apart.
Southern California citizen journalist and photographer 'Ringo' was on hand to record the day's events, and

posted a full-length photo essay on his site Ringo's Pictures. To bring this important photo essay to a wider audience,

I present here a small selection of Ringo's May Day pictures; visit his site to see dozens more photos from the rally.

When I tell people that public political rallies are more and more being led by communists and socialists, most

folks simply don't believe me. Aw, come on, you're just giving decent protesters an extreme label, they say.

No, actually, I'm not: The communists freely and proudly declare their affiliation.
And the SEIU has no problem marching arm-in-arm with them.

'Smash Capitalism' is a slogan the SEIU apparently endorses or at least doesn't mind marching behind.
In case you think the SEIU is some peripheral out-of-the-mainstream organization:
The SEIU devoted $28 million to Obama's campaign, making the SEIU 'the organization that spent the most

to help Barack Obama get elected president.' Furthermore, who is Obama's favorite White House guest and

one of his closest confidants?
The individual who has visited the Obama White House the most:

SEIU President Andy Stern, who has visited 53 times.

Obama is closely linked with the SEIU.
The SEIU is closely linked with communists.
You do the math.

Did I say communists? Sorry, I meant Communists (with a capital 'C').
Note how the Communists that day (like the women on the right in this photo) carried solid red flags symbolizing

their ideology. Keep that in mind as you view the next photo

One of the SEIU leaders picked up a Communist flag and led a contingent of rank-and-file SEIU members.

Everyone was OK with that.

The way you can identify the SEIU members in all these pictures: They're the ones in purple t-shirts carrying

blue-and-yellow signs.

So, as you can see, the communists and the union members intermingled as the march progressed.
In case you were wondering what the SEIU was saying during all of this, here's a video of the SEIU chanting

'Legalization or REVOLUTION!'

Clear enough?

And it wasn't just the SEIU at the march other 'normal' unions like

the AFL-CIO were on hand as well.
There were plenty of teachers unions attending too, and they brought

along many of their public school students for some good old-fashioned communist indoctrination,.

Most of the idiots in the US who walk around with Che buttons or Che shirts do so simply because they foolishly

think he's 'cool.' These hardcore communists carry his image not because he's 'cool,' but because he was one

of the most radical revolutionaries who ever lived. Right up there with Lenin, apparently.

In order to have a more 'civil dialogue' with their political opponents, the marchers made a puppet of a demonic

Statue of Liberty aligned with the 'Tea Bag Party.'

OK, I guess Hitler comparisons are off the table for now too many people have called it taboo. So what's second

best? The Devil!

Tell me the honest truth: If the Tea Party had marched in a rally behind a banner held up by fascists or neo-Nazis,

don't you think it would have been national news?

But the nation's biggest Obama-supporting political organization

marched behind banners like these, and not a peep about it in

the media.

Hmmmm......

Until recently, the average American has regarded fascists and communists as equally noxious and equally malignant.

As well they should have. But the drive these days by the left side of the spectrum is to make communism and socialism

somewhat less remarkable and more palatable. For two years they angrily denied the Tea Party accusation that Obama's

policies and supporters had a socialist bent. But in recent months, as the accusation had started to gain traction, the

new leftist tactic has become: 'What's so bad about socialism after all? You're demonizing a very

popular and respectable ideology!'

Phineas & Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension Cable's Most-Watched Film of the Year

(From Animation Magazine) There’s no stopping Phineas and Ferb this summer. The show, which has been performing strongly this season, managed to set a new record this Friday: The TV movie Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2^nd Dimension became cable’s most-watched film of the year with 7.6 million overall viewers.

The popular pic was cable’s No. 1 scripted telecast in any format among kids 6-11 and 9-14 and was highest in those demos for an animated program since Nickelodeon’s Fairly OddBaby in February 2008. Across the 2nd Dimension, which also garnered positive reviews, defeated all broadcast competition from 8-9:30 p.m. on Friday with a 1.3 rating and 1.7 million viewers in 18-49.

ScoreKeeper here with news of the passing of Fred Steiner. There are different degrees of celebrity. Most film and television composers, while not known personally or perhaps even by name, are very well known by their work. This can be said of the prolific and talented Fred Steiner. If you read Ain't It Cool News chances are high that his music has touched your life in some way.

As one of the most prolific television composers in the business, Steiner is most regarded for his theme for PERRY MASON (1962-1966) as well as his episodic scores for hit TV series' including GUNSMOKE (1960-1965), RAWHIDE (1961-1964), ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE (1961-1964), and HOGAN'S HEROES (1965-1966),

As many shows as Steiner was attached to, the twenty-five episodes of STAR TREK (1966-1967) he composed and conducted music for, earn him his star on the Geek Walk of Fame.

On behalf of Ain't It Cool News I'd like to extend condelences to the Steiner family. May his music live forever!

Spanish Fort's own LLOYD PITTS, my brother-in-law, appeared last night on JAY LENO and won a FREE MEAL for baying like a hound dog!

Accompanied by his lovely wife Gwen, their equally lovely daughter Hannah, and the beautiful and charming Clarissa Povenmire (wife of the famous DAN of "Phineas & Ferb" fame), Lloyd barked his way across America and into millions of homes!

Jonah, LLP's son, was sequestered in "The Green Room", probably due to leash laws...

I couldn't be more proud!

Trying to get inspired, to be original. Need to finish a BUNCH before travelling to Orlando next week for the first visit to Walt Disney World for the twins!
