My First Deer!

Oh yes, my first deer and it's an 8 pt buck! I guess all of our scouting and hard work paid off. It's close to archery season 2009 and me, my dad, and my little brother scouted long and hard. We found 2 awesome setup spots down off the edge of a field in a cedar swamp. I knew it was going to be a good spot especially for the rut. I started hunting when I was 10 years old ( 13 Now ) and I have loved to be in the woods ever since. It's my most favorite hobby and always will be. I have an amazing bow it's a Browning Micro Adrenaline and it's a very good bow for youth hunters. Anyways back to my story, every night when I got off the bus I went and sat every single night till dark. I saw a few does here and there but no bucks yet. A week before November I was so excited because the pre-rut was kicking in and the bucks were going crazy!!!! I was very confident. It was November 3, 2009 and i got off the bus and just knew that it was an awesome day because the wind was blowing just right. Me and my big brother Corey went out and he brought a climber treestand and sat about 1oo yards away from me. On our way out I made a drag with some fresh doe urine and the drag was about 150 yards long from where i started it to my tree stand. We got in our trees and waited it was about 4:00 p.m. when we went out. I started to rattle for about 2 minutes and waited for about 15 minutes then used a doe call. About an hour later I heard something behind me and looked back to see there was a buck standing there. He came under me and started trotting and then he put his head down to smell the urine. When he was at 15 yards, I drew back quietly, released the arrow and put a quartering away shot on him. My adrenaline was sky high and my heart was pounding as I saw the arrow hit him in the heart. He ran about 40 yards and dropped in his tracks. I was so excited and my brother and I drug him home and I gutted him. It was awesome to have a successful hunt and my best advise for new beginning hunters is that it is very exciting to hunt, just be patient.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write about my experience. Also I would like everyone to know that I am from Harrison, Michigan, but I now live in Penfield PA.

7:30 a.m. Saturday November 7th.

The deer camp story ( Summary of how events took place )

Early Saturday morning I got on stand about 30 minutes before day light. Just shortly before sun up I had two button buck fawns and a large doe moved into the clover field. About 10 minutes later a small spike and a three point moved into the field and chased the doe around and then moved down into the flood plain. As the doe was coming back out of the woods and into the field I heard a large amount of crashing coming from the South. I could see it was a buck and was missing one front leg. He appeared to be healthy, the leg was healed over, not a big buck but looked to be at least a six maybe a seven point. After about 30 minutes of deliberation I decided that I was going to shoot him instead of letting him end up being coyote feed this winter. Shot was about 30 yards, broad side, my carbon arrow tipped with a G5 passed clean through. I could hear the distinct sound of the dull thud and could see the blood soaked arrow from my stand. He only ran about 60 yards.
