The key to businesses becoming even bigger in 2017 will be intrapreneurship. If you are unfamiliar with the term, it is basically when someone who works within a firm uses their entrepreneurial skills to build the firm without incurring any of the cost or risks involved in running a business. Now, what would this mean for businesses, it would mean encouraging their employees to be more creative, and motivated and to think outside of the box. This would make employees feel more like they are a part of the company and less disposable. When employees feel more important and confident in their jobs they generally perform better and are more likely to work harder.

So, for 2017, companies looking to grow their brand should explore the hiring of people with an intrapreneurial mindset, especially in departments such as sales and marketing, as well as managerial posts. Just imagine how much more ground would be broken and covered if a person worked as though a company were also their own.

We see this as an under explored means of growth for a company, but once done correctly we think many company will experience massive overall improvement. The only learning curve that the company stands to face with employees of this mindset would be the challenges as it pertains to company policies as well as rules and bureaucracy. But, once they learn to give the intrapreneur enough space to take creative initiative and execute without letting the policies and rules that threaten to hamper the exploration of new initiatives get in the way, then this should not be much of an issue. Russia considers military bases in Vietnam and Cuba

Russia is considering plans to restore military bases in Vietnam and Cuba that had served as pivots of Soviet global military power during the Cold War, Russian news agencies quoted Russian Deputy Defence Minister Nikolai Pankov as saying on Friday.

"We are dealing with this issue," the agencies quoted Pankov as saying in Russia's parliament.

Russia lowered its flag at the Lourdes signals intelligence base in Cuba and the deep water Cam Rahn naval base in Vietnam in the early 2000s as part of a drawing down of Russia's military presence around the world after the demise of the Soviet Union.

But since then, Moscow's foreign policy has become more assertive, leading to tensions with the United States and its allies over, among other issues, the conflicts in Ukraine and Syria, and the presence of NATO troops in eastern Europe.

Pankov said the Defence Ministry was currently "rethinking" past decisions on closure of the bases, but declined to go into detail. Vietnam’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment and Cuban officials were not available.

The United States is in the process of reviving its relations with Cuba, which in Soviet times had offered Moscow its closest military installation to U.S. territory, less than 100 km (60 miles) from the Florida Keys.

"The global situation is not static, it is in flux, and the last two years have made significant changes to international affairs and security," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a conference call with reporters.

"Therefore, it's quite natural that all countries assess these changes in line with their national interests and take certain steps in the way they consider appropriate."

The Russian Defense Ministry is considering the question of renewing Russia's presence in the bases in Cuba and Vietnam, according to Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov, who alluded to the issue during his speech at the State Duma on Oct. 7.

"We are working on it. We see this problem," said Pankov, responding to a parliamentarian's question about whether or not the ministry is working in this direction.

For now the issue of Russia's armed forces being present on a permanent basis at the radio-electronic center in Cuba’s Lourdes and Vietnam’s Cam Ranh Bay has not been decided officially. However, Russia's expert community is actively analyzing the suitability of the bases and their possible purpose.

"There was a radio-electronics intelligence center in Cuba. I think it should be reopened," said Reserve Lieutenant General Yevgeny Buzhinsky, council chairman at the PIR Center (Center for Political Research), an NGO that studies issues related to global security. In his view, it was a mistake to halt operations at the Russian radio-electronics intelligence center, which operated in Cuba from 1967 to 2002.

He added that the U.S. has maintained its radio-electronic intelligence facilities on the Mediterranean coast in Turkey: "Radio-electronic reconnaissance resources are always useful [because] technologies change and things are [always] perfected."

Other experts, however, do not believe that renewing the Russian presence in Cuba is a necessary step in the current military-political conditions.

"There is no military-strategic sense in establishing Russian military bases in Cuba. Such discussions are aimed at stirring the interest of the U.S., at complementing NATO's growing activity in Europe," said Maxim Starchak, scientific collaborator at Queen's University's Center for International and Defense Policy (Canada).

In Starchak's opinion, the Kremlin may use the talks of renewing its presence on the island as a way to show Washington "that every new countermove will only instigate a response, meaning that negotiations are necessary."

At the same time, none of the experts interviewed by RBTH believes that Moscow's potential decision to renew Russia's presence on Cuba will engender a repeat of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 since the Kremlin is unlikely to be thinking of deploying combat-ready troops or any type of missiles to the base in Lourdes.

However, the increased activity of the Russian navy in Southern Asia will most likely raise concerns in the U.S.

The possible expansion of the Russian naval presence in the Cam Ranh port in Vietnam and consequently the permanent presence of Russian military forces in this region represents a certain threat to the U.S. naval base in Guam, said Michael Kofman, a fellow at the Kennan Institute of the Wilson Center specializing in Russian military analysis.

In 2015 the U.S. State Department asked the Vietnamese government to cancel Russia's right to have its strategic bombers refuel at the Cam Ranh Base because of allegedly "provocative" Russian aviation flights near the U.S. base in Guam.

However, the Vietnamese government did not change its policy and the republic's ambassador to Russia said that the country was ready to continue accepting and servicing Russian ships at the Cam Ranh Base if this practice was not aimed at harming third countries.

Google launched Allo, a new smart messaging app for Android and iOS that helps users say more and do more right in their chats.

Google has launched an instant messaging app that is ‘Allo’ which would help users to make plans, find information and more, all within one chat. It was earlier announced at Google I/O on May 18, and officially launched on September 21, 2016. The app is available on Android and IOS.

Labor Day is observed in the U.S. on every first Monday in September as a day to recognize the contributions of American workers of all industries to the U.S. economy. It is also meant to give workers a well-earned day off to relax at home or to get out for recreation.

This year it will be held on the 5th of September 2016, and on the 4th of September 2017.

To many, Labor Day marks the end of the summer season, even as Memorial Day marks its beginning. Many see Labor Day as their last chance to get out and take a vacation before summer is gone, and many workers get a two-week annual vacation period with Labor Day Weekend right in the middle of the two weeks off.

Most U.S. schools restart classes, after the long summer break, about a week before Labor Day. Others schools, however, resume classes on the day after Labor Day, thus allowing families to get in their last taste of summer before the school year gets underway.

Earning a college degree can be a pathway to higher wages and better employment opportunities, but for those who fail to graduate, those prospects quickly fade. And at a time when a majority of students finance their education with loans, dropping out of school comes with greater risks.

Yet a series of studies by Third Way, a think tank, show that many colleges and universities are leaving students with no better than a 50/50 chance of graduating or finding work that pays more than what someone with a high-school diploma can expect to earn. The findings build on a body of research advocating for greater focus on college completion, rather than just access to and affordability of higher education.

Approximately 22 percent of students who take out loans at public colleges were unable to begin paying down their debt three years after leaving school. The same is true for 19 percent of students at private institutions. The people having the most difficult time repaying their loans are those who never earned a degree, which makes it difficult to find work that pays enough to cover the debt.
Student loan defaults are concentrated among people with less than $10,000 in debt, mainly because these borrowers are less likely to have completed their degrees. Small-dollar loans account for nearly two-thirds of all defaults, according to the White House.

More than 11,000 athletes from around the world have descended on Rio de Janeiro, hoping to take home Olympic glory for their home countries.

Unfortunately, only a handful will achieve those dreams—and what’s worse, some might go bankrupt in the process, and sadly, very few of them have any financial support from their government of the local financial institutions.

Historically, the United States doesn’t spend a ton on its athletes, and even less so for the Caribbean countries. For the 2012 Olympic Games in London, for example, the U.S. Olympic Committee had an expense budget of nearly $800 million, of which just 10.3%—or roughly $81 million—directly supported the athletes, according to a 2013 study from U.S. Athletic Trust. That includes stipends, medical benefits, and tuition assistance, among other perks.

Even if they win an Olympic medal, athletes aren’t guaranteed a rich payday. The USOC awards team members a bonus for winning a medal: $25,000 for gold, $15,000 for silver, and $10,000 for bronze. But the odds of bringing home a medal are long: The 530 U.S. athletes who competed in London in 2012 brought home 103 medals.

It’s a common misconception that Olympic athletes all benefit from endorsement contracts and sponsorships. While that’s true of Olympic celebrities like Michael Phelps and Simone Biles, who have inked lucrative deals, many sports (especially those that don’t enjoy great media attention and air time) don’t pay well, even for athletes at the top of their game. Which means that many sporting superstars struggle to pay the bills for their quest for Olympic glory—not to mention the costs of traveling to Rio to compete—balancing their demanding training and competition schedules with a full-time career, or a series of part-time jobs. American hurdler Kerron Clement, who took home medals in Beijing and is competing in the Rio Games this year , has worked as a model and an actor; in 2011, he appeared in the music video for Beyonce’s hit “Run the World (Girls).” Emil Milev, a six-time Olympian in pistol shooting, is a physical education teacher at an elementary school in Tampa, Fla., according to USA Shooting.

Then there’s cyclist Mara Abbott, who’s just as likely to be found pedaling at high speeds as working at the local farmer’s market in her hometown of Boulder, Colo. She pulls six-hour shifts two days a week. She also teaches yoga and pens a column in the local newspaper, the Daily Camera, writing about everything from her passion for cycling to local politics. She says balancing an assortment of side gigs with her training isn’t as difficult as being able to find a full-time position that is accommodating of her schedule. “Finding jobs that allow you to travel and be gone so much is a bit more of a challenge,” Abbott says.

Abbott’s costs to attend the Rio Games have been covered by USA Cycling, the sport’s parent organization, as well as the USOC. However, not all Olympic athletes get their trip to Rio de Janeiro fully funded.

There are really two ways to be poor. Some people just don’t earn much money. Almost 15 percent of Americans, or 47 million people, live below the poverty line, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Then there are the people loaded up with debt. Even people with good jobs can owe so much on credit cards, student loans, or mortgages that, on paper, they’re worth less than zero.

Add up all their possessions – cash, property, retirement accounts – and subtract all their debts, and one in seven Americans ends up in the red.
Overall, U.S. households have $12.3 trillion in debt, according to another New York Fed report, released this week.

At least Americans are doing better at managing their debt than during the dark days of the housing bubble that led to the Great Recession. The total debt load is up 10 percent from the middle of 2013 but 3.1 percent below its 2008 peak. The biggest improvement since the recession has been in housing debt, which is still more than $1 trillion below its peak.

Credit cards have become more manageable as consumers have paid down debts (and switched to debit cards), regulations have gotten stricter, and banks have become more cautious about giving cards and other credit to borrowers with low credit scores. In mid-2008, 68 percent of Americans had at least one credit card. That’s now at 61 percent. Credit card balances have fallen, and since 2008 total credit card debt is down 14 percent, to $730 billion. Delinquency rates have fallen to levels not seen since the tech boom years of 1999 and 2000.

Still, about 14 percent of U.S. households have a credit card balance of more than $10,000, and student loan balances have soared. From the middle of 2008 to the middle of 2016, Americans’ total student loan debt went from $590 billion to $1.26 trillion.

It turns out credit cards and student loan debt are the main reasons Americans are ending up with a negative net worth. Mortgages are a minor factor, the New York Fed found. Only 19 percent of people with negative net worth are homeowners, compared to 75 percent of those with positive net worth, which if you think about it is kind of a good thing.

People with negative worth are a diverse group that defies stereotypes of the poor. One in eight has a graduate degree, and 43 percent have a college degree, only a few points lower than those with positive wealth. Their average income is $39,077. That’s less than half of households with positive net worth, but it’s high enough to suggest the group’s income ranges from the very poor well into the solidly middle class.

Those with negative net worth can be split into three groups of equal size. A third are in the hole by less than $12,500, their debt dominated by credit cards. Another third owe $12,500 to $47,500, net of their assets. And a third owe a net $47,500 or more. For these last two groups, student loans dominate the debt burden.

It doesn’t feel good when your net worth is a negative number. But many of these debtors aren’t necessarily doing something wrong. It can make sense to borrow when you’re young – to get an education, buy a home, or even sometimes to meet emergency expenses – as long as you’re pretty sure you can pay it off later when you’re earning more money. The average age of those with negative net worth is 43, compared to 51 for those with positive net worth.

More suffer as a result of playing Pokemon Go, According to reports, armed robbers are using the geo location feature to lure their victims to isolated areas, this happened in Missouri recently and has left a lot of people quite traumatized by the incident.

According to The Guardian

"At about 2am in O’Fallon, Missouri, officers responded to a robbery report that led them to four people, all local residents aged 16 to 18, in a black BMW in a CVS parking lot. The occupants tried to discard a handgun out of the car when an officer approached, said Sgt Bill Stringer. The officer then identified the four people as suspects of similar armed robberies described in St Louis and St Charles counties."

The adult suspects were charged with first degree robbery, a felony, and had bond set at $100,000 cash, Stringer said.

Stringer added that police believe the suspects used the phone app, which directs users to capture imaginary creatures superimposed onto the real world, to tempt players into secluded areas where they could be easily robbed. At a certain level in the game, he noted, players can congregate at local landmarks to join teams and battle.

“Using the geolocation feature,” Stringer said, “the robbers were able to anticipate the location and level of seclusion of unwitting victims.”

This is quite alarming and it seems like it's just beginning.....

We are sure you have heard about this game before, Pokemon Go has been literally taking over the world! Every person, man, woman, child, no matter the age has downloaded Pokemon go and is playing it multiple time a day. Now, if you by some chance are not familiar with the game Pokemon, the history of the game can be found on Bulbapdia. But just a brief rundown, this game was made by a native from Tokyo, Japan Mr. Satoshi Tajiri who has since with help built the game over two decades now into the metropolis that it is today.

Now, this game though popular and loved by many has also been the source of a lot of controversy over the decades that it has existed. In the beginning of it's existence it has sparked many a fire with religious organisations claiming the game to be hedonistic. However, in it's new come back it has already caused a death to occur as reported by rt.com.

"On Friday, a 19-year-old wandering Pokémon hunter in Wyoming discovered a dead body floating in the Big Wind River while on a quest.

On Saturday one man in Massachusetts woke up to a garden full of wandering Pokémon players after his home, which was once a church, had been marked as a ‘gym."

Some even speculate that the game has ulterior motives, as it tracks all locations of it's participants and may be taking pictures while users are trapping Pokemon, allegedly. This is quite a scary thought as Pokemon can appear in ones home, in their rooms or anywhere else the game may place them. Now, what we are interested in knowing is, how does the world feel about the game and whether or not people think the game may lead to even more deaths to come.

10 million android devices allegedly affected by android malware

So, for all of us Android users, the alert has been sent for us to look out for a potential android malware infection. Aparently, ten million Android devices have been infected by malware called "HummingBad", according to Check Point. The cyber security firm said it discovered the malware in February, and has been tracking it ever since.

Why is this bad? it is bad because by all indications the most dangerous part of the malware are the people behind it. A team of developers at Yingmob, an otherwise legitimate, multi-million dollar advertising analytics agency based in Beijing.

"Yingmob has several teams developing legitimate tracking and ad platforms," the report alleges. "The team responsible for developing the malicious components is the 'Development Team for Overseas Platform' which includes four groups with a total of 25 employees."

"The malware installs a piece of software called a rootkit onto infected Android devices, giving the cyber criminals admin-level access to smartphones."

This access is used to generate fraudulent advertising revenue -- apparently up to $300,000 per month -- through the forced downloading of apps and clicking of ads. But it's not just fake ad revenue at stake here, as the group is able to sell access to phones or give away information held on them. Check Point estimates that over 85 million smartphones have the group's apps installed on them, but only up to 25 percent of these include malicious software.
The bulk of victims are in China and India, with 1.6 million and 1.35 million cases respectively. The Philippines, Indonesia and Turkey are towards the top of the list, too, while the US has 288,800 infected devices. The UK and Australia each have fewer than 100,000 devices affected. The verdict is still out on the rest of the world, but we are willing to bet that places such as the Caribbean are probably very badly affected as most of the phones are imported from china.

Malware has done considerable damage to mobile platforms over the past year. Apple, previously known for being virus and malware-proof, has been hit by multiple attacks, including some perpetrated by the same group behind "HummingBad", according to Check Point.

200 Different Apps are used to Spread HummingBad, Check Point notes that HummingBad establishes a persistent rootkit on infected Android devices to produce fraudulent ad revenue, and installs an additional of over 50,000 fraudulent apps per day to increase revenue for the fraudster. From August 2015, Yingmob has used nearly 200 different apps to distribute HummingBad Android malware.

Meanwhile, a Russian hacker last month used malware to steal the data of millions of Twitter users. Neither Yingmob nor Google immediately responded to requests for comments according to reports.

So, according to the researchers over at Princeton University, Facebook is heading for a serious downward spiral in 2017! They report a predicted lose of approximately 80% of it's users in 2017. Of course Facebook data scientist are calling the report utter non sense and saying basically it is baseless and untrue.

Now, from where we sit, Facebook has had a rather good run, and is still going quite strong, at least in the Caribbean. We are sure that if they do an impromptu survey, they will show great results in terms of how many users they still have and how well people are receiving their site. Like all companies online or off, they will have to continue to innovate their product so as to keep the appeal and the loyalty of the ever changing young audience's attention. But, by no means we can actually foresee such a massive downturn of events, We think that focusing more heavily on the security of the users personal information and finding creative ways to limit the amount of access the young and trouble prone audience aka teenagers have to the amount of data they upload, access and share would also work in their favor. Here's a helpful tip (if anyone is reading from Facebook) perhaps you guys should consider the profile growing with the individual type of thing, you know like -- you are 15 yeas old, so your profile will have certain limitations than that of an 18 year old, and both would be unlike that of a 21 year old and so on..... This would reduce a lot of the trouble that societies globally are having with the information giant and take it out of the problem area of the internet. Who knows if they find a great and effective way to do this they might stand such a great chance of growing their audience that places in the world that banned them; like some Asian countries may just open the door and let them in.

In each age bracket should be allowed something different as far as user experience, as we explained above for obvious reasons. But, let's take it a bit further and even go as far to say that each age group desire and would enjoy different things from their online experience. For instance ages 10-17 definitely would enjoy a place where they can personalize it and make it their own, a place they can customize and show their personalities, with more emphasis on sharing video's, games and instant messaging, (Perhaps even allowing people to monetize their content). A place where if their are any advertisements, they are limited to the age group. Meanwhile, the more adult user may not desire so much customization as they might be looking to network and grow businesses, and maybe even prospect on a potential relationship etc. And, well the user in between (the ever blossoming young adult) they something different as per the generational needs as well. Diversifying in such a way would certainly allow for growth and longevity of the Facebook brand. Not to mention gain back mass amounts of trust in parents as well as even countries in the internet giant Facebook brand. Oh, and news flash to Facebook, stop forcing users to download your messenger app in order to enjoy messenger. Not every one has a phone with room enough to do so and guess what this gives way for brands like whatsapp to shine. Work on your accessibility. Facebook has everything other apps have and can very well stay ahead of the game, but may be loosing out simply to the user experience, and the accessibility.

Over at the tech giant Techcrunch Facebook has long debunked the rumors, but, it is yet to be seen as 2017 is upon us.

The main take away from this is that the next step that Facebook should consider is blogging for certain age groups and monetization worldwide....we guarantee you that this will retain and even gain you millions of users.

Oil and the global economy

If you are an observer of oil and the global economy, you will by now have learned that oil and money, like fame is fickle. Why? one might ask -well it's because of the renewable energy market completely taking over and dominating the economy a little at a time. Oil companies are closing in bulk and the global economy is feeling it. Crude oil and natural Gas is no longer the determining factor for wealth of an economy, and things are about to heat up even more.

If an oil company is looking to survive, they had better open a green division. This time around millennials are running the show and things are changing for the healthier. Let's take a look at the energy giant "Shell", they not so recently opened a green division and will be benefiting loads from it as this is what is currently in demand. We mean let's face it, oil will never lose it's overall appeal across the board entirely, however, it will become less of a staple and more of a not so necessary option, especially in first world countries.

So, what does that mean for third world countries like Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela, that are heavily dependent on oil revenue to survive- it means they will have to find other means of sustaining their economies. Joining the renewable energy bandwagon will not be enough for those economies. In the mean time parts of the world that were heavy investors in the natural resource will more or less be enjoying not having yet another big bill at the end of "whenever they get around to paying their bills"...Russia is taking the biggest hit of all the world, as they rely heavily on the export of oil to sustain the demands of it's economy. Adaptation to the change in pace is necessary in order to prevent it's economy from shrinking into a wasteland.

Our humble predictions are that it might be a down season for oil now and in the future for a while, but we foresee the demand for oil coming full circle and the needs for it will arise again. Sustainable energy has it's market and will continue to, but the dust will settle.

In the mean time oil companies should consider downsizing and embracing the tide as it passes, join the renewable energy train and reap the benefits until it's your time to shine again.
