A Fall Trip....

I have always been intrigued with the Amish Community. I read alot of books by Beverly Lewis. She writes Amish Fiction books. Her books reflect the traditions and character of the Amish. It is such a humbling life style as they do not focus on worldly things.

About a month ago, Bill and I took an overnight trip to Lynchburg, TN. We visited the Amish community there. I loved it!!! All of the houses are built alike. Their transportation is the horse and buggy. We stopped at a few houses and purchased homemade bread, eggs, homemade jams, jellies, cabbage slaw and even a basket. They were working in the fields with horses, no type of modern machinery at all. One of the houses we stopped at, they were making sorghum molasses.

They do not like their pictures to be taken, but I did take a few but from a distance.

Hopefully we will be making another trip to Lynchburg, TN soon.

Maybe we all could take a lesson from the Amish people and be more humble and not get caught up in such worldly things that we do.

On our way home we stopped by the Davey Crockett Park and ate a late lunch and early supper.

Shopping Trip

In a previous post, "SURPRISE" Party, I blogged about my 50th birthday. Two of my best friends, Sandy and Denise, from school also turned 50 this year. They actually turned 50 a month before I did. We have been friends since 1st grade. We went our separate ways after high school, married, had children, but we did actually worked at the same office together for several years. Gina (which is my cousin) also worked with us at the same office so we all 4 worked together for 20+ years. Now Gina and Sandy still work at the same office but Denise works at a Bank and I work at an Engineering Office.

The 4 of us try and go out to dinner together at least once a month. It does not always work out but we never go more than 2 months without seeing each other. Denise and Sandy have grandchildren now. So between our children (ages 18-30) and grandchildren (ages 1 month - 12 mths) there is always something to talk about.

We decided we wanted to go shopping so I planned a shopping trip for the 4 of us. We left on Friday afternoon about 1:00pm and drove to Birmingham, AL. We stayed in the Hilton across from the Summit Mall. We checked into our Hotel and then headed out to the Summit Mall. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory and then on Saturday we went to the WaterMark Outlet Mall in Bessemer, AL.

We had a great time...we named ourselves.....Lavern, Shirley, Thelma and Louise.....

This was on Saturday morning on our way shopping......We went back to the Summit Mall and made our 3rd trip to Charming Charlies. If you have never been to Charming Charlies I highly recommend a visit. They have purses, accessories, clothes, shoes and it is all color coordinated.

After we finished at The Summit we headed out to Bessemer, AL to the WaterMark Outlet.
They have a POLO outlet, Carter's and OshGosh Outlet. This was what the trunk looked like after our day of shopping. It was full but it did close.

On our way home we let the top down on the convertible. It was fun but I was FREEZING!!!!!!

We arrived at my house about 6:30pm on Saturday night. It was a fun trip with some life long friends.

Being friends since 1st grade is a long time. We talk all the time about how the 4 of us will end up in the same nursing home together one day. (HA) We make jokes about not being able to see or hear...I guess that is part of getting older but I can promise that none of us ACT or LOOK 50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will be planning another outing soon. I am blessed and thankful to have 3 great Christian friends that I have known since 1st grade and and cousin since birth.

"SURPRISE' Party

I am going to try and do better about blogging. When I started this blog I 'thought ' I had a lot to say but the thoughts sometimes just go away when I actually start to type.

A couple of months ago I had a birthday. It was the BIG '50'!!!!! It bothers some people when they hit the 30th, 40th or 50th birthday. None of those milestone birthdays has bothered me at all. As I say 'IT IS JUST A NUMBER'!!!! I don't feel 50....I probably look 50....I don't think I act 50 (well maybe sometimes).....I do go to bed by 9 or 9:30 if I can....

Of course you can always expect a 'A Surprise OVER THE HILL party for a 30th, 40th or 50th birthday. Bill and I went out to eat on my actual birthday. Both boys were at school. But I have some wonderful friends, 3 in particular that I sorta did not think they would let this 50th birthday go by without a party. The weekend after my birthday I was told that we (Bill, Trae, Tyler and myself) were going out to eat. There is a new Japanese Restaurant in town so that is where I thought we were going. Tyler was not home much that day as I was told he would be in Tupelo with some friends. I text him after lunch and told him to meet me at a friends house as we were having a baby shower for his 4-H leader and they wanted some of the 4-H members there. He text me back and said he could not come as he was still in Tupelo. I believed him as he knows better than to lie to his momma!!!!! Trae even came home from MSU for the weekend. I think he was told he better be home.

So about 5:30 one of my friends, Millie, called and wanted us to run by her house to pick up something for church for Sunday. Bill had been told to have me at Millie's house by 6. As you can guess we pulled in and the yard was full of vehicles. I knew then where we were NOT going..... Japanese Restaurant!!!! It was a surprise that so many people were there. Millie, Mary Beth, Bronson, Gina and Sue had pulled off the 'SUPRISE 50TH BIRTHDAY PARTY'!!! But they were nice and it was NOT a OVER THE HILL PARTY!!! AND I found out that Tyler was there all day, NOT in Tupelo, helping to get the party set up!!!! Millie told him it was ok this one time to lie to his momma, she would understand!!!!

Wednesday Night Fellowship

Our Wednesday Night Programs have started back at church. We started back a coule of months ago. We take a break during the summer and start back about a month after school starts back. We have Choir practice, Bible Study (Adults), Bible Quest (Youth) and we eat. Can't meet at a Methodist Church without eating. (HA)

We have good fellowship and learning more and more about the Awesome God we serve. We usually have about 45 to 50 people on a Wednesday night.

My friends, Mary Beth, Michelle, Karen and myself prepare the meal on Wednesday nights. We have lots of fun together. They call us the Lunchroom ladies!!! But we do not wear hairnets...that was a joke that they were going to get us some to wear. But we refused!!! HA

I love the song 'God Speaking' by Mandisa. The words are so true that God speaks to us in so many different ways and it is our choice to then respond to what He is saying to us or telling us what we need to do. I do not always respond. I have the intentions but never follow through. So with that said I am trying to figure out why every time I get in my vehicle this particular song 'Nothing Greater Than Grace' is on the radio. Is God trying to tell me something through this song....is it just a coincidence.....no I don't think it is a coincidence. I just pray I respond the way God wants me to because there is nothing greater than God's Grace!!!!!!!!!

Band

Bill and I have been involved with High School Band since Trae was in the 6th grade. He is now in his 5th year of college. Tyler followed right behind his brother and was in band since 6th grade also. Bill and I were involved in Band Boosters for a total of 11 years. Trae played the Snare Drum and Tyler played the Trumpet until his Junior year in High School and he was the Drum Major for 2 years.

When Trae went to MSU he was on the Drumline for 2 years.

We bought season tickets for 2 years to MSU....it was hard because we are Ole Miss Rebels all the way but I guess that shows what we will do for our kids.

Tyler is in the band at ICC. He is playing his Trumpet in the band but hopefully he will be Drum Major next year. We went to the 1st ICC game last week.

Even though we are 'Empty Nesters', we will always be there to support our 2 boys in what ever they are involved in. The most WONDERUL difference is, I can go to a football game to watch the band and not have to worry about boosters meetings, working in the concession, taking care of the money or any of that. I can go and sit and enjoy watching! Not that we did not enjoy the High School Band.....we loved it or we would not have spent the time in it we did but this is so much better!!!!

It Is Time...

The reason I started this blog a few months ago was for the reason of Bill and I being "Empty Nester". Well that time has come..... and went..... We got Tyler moved into his dorm at Itawamba Community College. He moved in a few days earlier than the other students. He is in the band and all band members moved in on the 5th of August. Tyler had band camp from 7am until 8pm from the 6th through the 11th. He started classes on August 12th. He is enjoying himself and making lots of new friends. But with Tyler......he never meets a stranger anyway!!!!!! Here are a few photos of the moving day....

Trae moved back to Mississippi State University on August 17th and started his classes on the 18th. He will be taking his Aerospace Engineering classes. Hopefully finishing up this year and then maybe going to Grad School.

We am very proud of both our boys and the young men they have become. Through the years as parents, I know we have failed in lots of ways as parents to Trae and Tyler. No one is perfect. I think back over the years as they have grown and there is so much I would like to go back and do better as a parent. I guess we all do. As I have gotten older and as I have grown in my relationship and walk with God, there is so much I would love to go back and teach Trae and Tyler at an earlier age. But I pray that with the wisdom I had at the time was enough to teach them how important it is to have a relationship with God.

Each year on the Sunday before High School Graduation at our school, we have a special service at church to honor the Seniors. Trae graduated in 2006, and this song 'I Will Never Let You Fall' by Ray Boltz was a popular song on AFR radio station. Here are the words:

Our boys are pretty much on their own making choices and decisions everyday. Our prayer is that Trae and Tyler will continue to grow in their faith and always seek God for guidance in everything they do and maybe

A Wonderful Visit

My brother lives in Kansas City, MO. He recently came to Mississippi for a visit. He drove his motorcycle. That is a long 12 hours on a motorcycle or it would be for me anyway.

My nephew and his wife also came to visit. They are really still newly weds. They were married a year this past May. Trae, my mother and I drove to Kansas City for the weddings last year. It was a beautiful wedding.

We had a family gathering at my house on Sunday while they were here. I did not get many picture's but here are a couple of the visitors......Brad, Stacy and Anthony......

We were so glad they came to visit and that we had the time together. So thankful for my brother and his family.

My brother has come along way in his walk with God and it is a answered prayer! Sometimes it seems our prayers are not being heard because we can not see the answer to our prayers. One thing I struggle with is waiting on God's timing, I like my timing better. But my timing is not God's plan.

Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Youth Retreat

Each year our church sponsors a 'Youth Retreat' for the youth in our church, Mantachie United Methodist Church, and for the youth from Shiloh United Methodist Church. We usually have about 35 to 40 youth and adults to attend. We have the retreat at a local State park for the weekend. This year our theme for the retreat was 'Spirtiual Boot Camp'. The entire weekend was based on Ephesians 6:10-18...Putting on the 'Armor of God'.

On Friday night we had Bro. Jason Martin as our guest speaker. He talked about each of the pieces of armor mentioned in scripture . We had a visual for each of the pieces of armor to represent what the scripture was talking about. Sometimes a visual will help you remember things better, or at least that is the way it is for me!!!!! Here is Bro. Jason taking about the 'Breastplate of Righteouness'.

Also on Friday night we had a youth drama team from Ozark Baptist Church. They did some very impressive drama. Some of it was for fun but with a meaning and some of it was so very serious and touching. These are scenes of some of the drama.

It is hard to get youth in the bed at a descent hour so they can get enough rest to be prepared and attentive the next day. But this time we watched a movie on Friday night and by the time the movie was over there was no problem getting them in the bed and asleep. Maybe after 10 years we have figured it out...lol.

On Saturday morning we started with our devotions and music. We have music time then a devotion and we have 3 or 4 before lunch then 1 after lunch.

THEN...it is game time!!!! We play kick ball, volley ball, balloon stomp and this water balloon game was very interesting..... The balloons had water in them and you pass it back and forth to each other and take a step backward with each pass. The point it to not burst the balloon. But of course it was so hot that when the balloon did burst...it felt very good!!!!

On Saturday night Bethel Baptist Church Praise and Worship Band performed. They have been coming to our retreat for the past 6 or so years! It is always a great praise and worship time!

On Sunday Morning before breakfast we have a group picture made. Each year we have t-shirts made for everyone at the retreat with the theme of the retreat on the back of the t-shirt.

After breakfast we have 2 more devotions with music. We then give the campers time to go back to the cabins and pack-up. After lunch the last thing we do before leaving is have Communion and a balloon release. The balloons represent something that we have talked to God about over the weekend that we need to let go of in our life and turn it over to Him. So as the balloons are released so have we release 'whatever it may be' to God and then we headed out with our Full Armor of God on to be Soldiers for Christ.

So do you put on your full Armor of God each day?

New Addition to the family

It is always a joyous and thankful occasion to welcome a newborn to the family. Just knowing our babies are a gift from God! Our niece gave birth to a beautiful little boy a few weeks ago. He weighed the same as both our boys and it is so hard to believe that Trae or Tyler was EVER that small. My how time flies. Brings back joyous memories of Trae and Tyler as babies. Well they still are my babies even if they are 22 a 18 years old!!!!

Veggies Coming In

I love me some good tomatoes. Since this was our first garden in several years (you can read about it here) Our First Garden, one thing we knew we wanted were lots of tomatoes and okra. Well, the tomatoes and squash have been plentiful, but the okra not so well and we've been patiently waiting for it to become plentiful.

We have canned 12 qts of tomatoes that I will use in soups or sauces this winter. A friend of mine had a recipe for canning tomatoes in our local paper recently so I gave it a try and I will never can tomatoes any other way. Here is how I did them:

Wash, peel, & core tomatoes. Pack in quart jars. Do not add water. Be sure juice covers the tomatoes. Add 1 teaspoon of salt & 1 teaspoon sugar to each jar. Put lids & rings on each jar; put in oven on bottom rack. Remove the top rack. Put in 275 degree oven. Cook 1 hour. (Do not open oven door during process) Either turn off oven & let cool or Remove from oven to cool.

I have already used a jar of the canned tomatoes to make spaghetti sauce and it was so delicious!!! I have also done a couple of jars of pepper sauce to have to go on turnip greens a little later on. We have had a sufficient supply of banana peppers out of the garden as well. They have been so good and we consume several each night for supper!! I wish we could keep them growing and bearing on into the winter!

Our first crop of Jalapeno peppers were used to make appetizers with a recipe from Pioneer Woman. (Let me say, if you have never visited this website you are missing out on lots of good recipes and other things.)

A friend at work brought me blueberries. I tried for the first time to make Blueberry Jelly. It did not turn out so well. Not sure what I did wrong unless it was because I used Splenda instead of sugar. So now I have 6 Jars of Blueberry syrup. I guess we will be eating lots of pancakes. If anyone reads this and has any idea or recipe for sugar free jellies please leave me a comment.

Summer Fun

This has been one HOT summer here in Mississippi and so glad we have a pool. We built the pool in 1989 when Trae was 17 months old and normally in the summer time our pool water does not get very warm because we have a lot of shade around our house and the shade covers the pool. The pool gets about 4 hours of sun a day. The temperature of the water will run about 10 degrees cooler than other pools that gets a lot of sun. This has always been just a little cool for me. I usually freeze when I get in the pool. BUT NOT THIS YEAR!!!! Shade or no shade the water temperature in our pool has been just right!

We have so many fond and cherished memories when the boys were younger enjoying the pool. Birthday parties, family gathering and holidays cookouts. But as the boys have gotten older (Trae 22 and Tyler 18), they don't used the pool as much now as they use to. They have their own agenda now...LOL.

Our First Garden

We finally had a garden this year. For several years now we have wanted to plant a garden but have not had the time or took the time to do so. Earlier this year in May, Bill placed 4 cross ties in the edge of the pasture. I was so excited. We hauled 6 loads of dirt in to fill it (not fun). We then planted just enough for us to have fresh veggies to eat on...not an over abundance.

I don't have pictures of the actual building and planting of the garden, but I do have a picture of the garden in its producing stage....on the right end of the garden are the tomatoes. We planted 5 on 2 rows and they were way to close....they all grew together. Next to the tomatoes were the okra then the beans. The beans overpowered the okra on the left and the tomatoes grew into the okra on the right, but the okra is finally beginning to produce and grow taller than both. The cucumbers and squash are on the left end of the garden and the squash completely overpowered the peppers. We planted 4 different kind of peppers. After the squash died down the peppers began to produce to their full potential.

It has been so much fun having a garden and in another post I will show what we have harvested....oh and this is Spencer, our dog, he just watches from a distance and he never bothers the garden.....smart dog!

So as I was writing this post, a thought came to my mind. Are we, as Christians, like this garden sometimes? That we let things overpower us to keep us from growing to our full potential in our walk with the one who takes care of us: our Lord? It's amazing how simple things like this can bring our minds back to Christ!

It has been a while.....

Well it has been a while since I have blogged. We have had a lot of things going on this summer. Over the next several days I am going to attempt to get caught up and blog about all those things we have done over the summer.

Our 'EMPTY NEST' is about to be here, with both sons at college, and it is a happy and sad feeling.

I had a great Mother's Day yesterday. We had a great service at church. After Church we came home, ate lunch and I took a 2 hour nap. (no laundry got done) That does not happen very often but I took advantage of the time yesterday. Tyler has 2 days of High School left this week and he will graduate on May 22. Trae is home for the summer and looking for a job. Hopefully he will find one soon.

It is rainy here today but that is ok because our garden needs the rain. It has been several years since we have had a garden and I am excited about our garden this year. We have tomatoes, okra, beans, squash, cucumbers and all kinds of peppers. I will post pictures as it progesses. All the plants are growing, I just hope they produce!!!!

One of the blogs I really enjoy reading is kellyskornerblog.com/. Today she is talking about names that we name our children and the significance of the names. It just so happens to be my boys birthday weekend. I say weekend because thier birthdays are just 3 days apart. William Herman Camp III, better know as 'Trae', was born May 10, 1988. We had decided that before he was born that he would be name after his daddy and grand-daddy. Tyler Wayne Camp, known as 'Tyler', was born May 7, 1992. He is name after my daddy, brother and nephew.

During both pregnacies I really never had a girls name picked out and we did not know the gender until they were born. (that was 22 and 18 years ago) We just wanted it to be a suprise but I just had a feeling with both of them that they were boys.

Starting a Blog....

Well...I have decided to finally start a Blog. I read other Blogs all the time. I thought it would be a good time as my husband and I will be starting this new phase of our life...'Empty Nest'....My friends say it is great, but me....I am sure, it will take getting use to. Our oldest son, Trae, just finished his 4th year of college (did not say graduated) and our youngest son will graduate in a couple of weeks from high school and start his college life in the fall. This will take getting use to as we have been involved in high school activities for the past several years.
