You have probably seen Blogging For Dollars Made Simple post.

You can increase the tips given there by trying to get on to some other blogging sites that will share their ad revenue. Some suggest about 15 and post at least 2 entries a day. For a beginner please start with 2 at most and post at least 10 short blogs. When you start to get into a rythym you can establish links between blogs and easily put those 2 into cruise-control overdrive. Then you may notch up the other 13 Blog sites as you find them appropriate and post and reply to posts once a day. I am sure this approach will work.

The Meaning of the Word 'Blog'

Hello,

Fellow bloggers and visitors to my new blog. I called it "The Captain's Logbook" to keep with a familiar saying that has kept with me, made famous by the actor Patrick Steward. Now other captain said those words with so much conviction: "Captain's log... stardate 1002342.5..." I know you can imagine him saying that (those trekies out there), but now on to the business of this blog in question.

Immediate visitors to this region of cyberspace will see a slant of trek into the unknown reaches of fiction and so that may be seen as the primary reason for this blog. But that is not the case. I have but blogging or more specifically as I called it logging for quite a while back home in Barbados for about 2 years. I adapted this term from the Captain's Log of Star Trek ® that I was so fond of over the years. But my interest really caught on and continues on with the 'Voyage', excellent storyline. I find the creator stimulated the scientific mind of modern times to bring a realistic view of how the future with space travel really could be. I am reliably informed that many of their story lines are actually researched in areas of Physics and Quantum Physics!

Now the definition of a log can be most commonly taken in this context as a record of performance or the progress of an undertaking (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/). We see how it applies in 'TNG' or 'Voyager' and how someone who wants to keep a journal and is 'trekked' would keep a log of his/her everyday activities.

So why do they now call posts that are placed on the internet (forums and message boards) a blog?

Well it could be just any another word to sound like the word log. That is what it is a log. But maybe as all 'Electronic' versions of real-life entities have been prefixed by an 'e' (eg. e-mail, e-business, etc.) they probably were thinking of using an e-log or an e-post (probably to long because of the 2 syllables) then contracted to the first consonant that can go before the word log. Hence b-log, blog!

Another possibilty exists that they were testing out the word and in the Software Engineering contest it became a Beta-log and so b-log or blog!

Anyways we may not know unless some of you out there are more informed and/or have the answer for sure. I am leaving it as my very best guess as to why it is called a blog.
