Don Marco - The Master Crayola Artist

They call him "Mr. Crayola."

Don Marco was born in Northern Minnesota in the late 1920's.His interest in art was evident even before starting school. As a young adult in the Army Air Corp, he began his life's career in Air Traffic Control, which continued until his retirement from Honolulu International Airport in 1973. Much of his spare time was spent as a professional artist. Before retirement, Don started developing a technique to create fine art, using Crayola Crayons. Shortly after retiring, he published his first print. Living in Southern California, his work was in demand, including commissions from Burt Reynolds and a one-man show at his Dinner Theater in Florida.

It is hard to imagine these are done with crayons!

I would love to see one of his shows!

Deadly Distractions

Deadly distractions is when we talk on cellphones, we pick up something on the car floor, we snack, change clothes, or anything else, even shave behind the wheels. It is worth taking the chance?

It might seem obvious to say that when drivers stop paying attention to the road, even for a few seconds, bad things are bound to happen. Yet most of us admit to occasionally changing the radio station, reaching behind the seat, or changing the CDs while in motion. Then you look up-and suddenly you are out of lane, in the wrong lane, grazing the shoulder or coming up fast on the back of a stop or slow car. Phew! Thank God! I made it in time. That was so close!

Well, it is too close, too often, according to mounting experts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that the majority vast majority of accidents (Nearly 80 percent) could be prevented if drivers paid more attention (Before you say anything consider also that accidents can happen due to other reasons.) The study involved 100 cars fitted with cameras and sensors, driven nearly two million miles. Participants had 82 real accidents and 761 near crashes.

Nationwide insurance, which conducted a survey in November 2006, suggested that distracted driving is a national pastime! of 1,200 respondents, ages 18 to 60, 73 percent said they used cell phone while driving; 68 percent eat while driving. Others shave, read, even paint their toenails in traffic.

Gadget-obsessed teen drivers are perhaps the most distracted. In a national survey by State Farm Insurance and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia released in January, more than half of teens pooled said they saw other teens driving while text messaging or using handheld games and other tech gear.

Last June, the nation grieved after a head-on collision killed five young women on their way to a lakeside cottage in upstate New York to celebrate their recent high school graduation. Later, police said a cell phone belonging to the driver had sent and received text messages just 38 seconds before the first 911 call reported the accident. No one knows whether the driver or the passenger was using the phone.

It is unclear exactly how much of the economic cost of car accidents - currently at 230 billion annually in the United States-can be attributed to distracted driving. That's because not all accidents are reported, and drivers involved in the accidents are reluctant to admit they were changing CDs or putting on makeup. But NTHSA estimates that driver distraction contributes to 25 percent of all reported accidents, and that is a low-end figure according to Bill Windsor fo the Office of Safety at Nationwide Insurance. In this day and time, people have a lot to do and so little time to have that it is natural that they become multitaskers. It becomes so natural that they carry it over into driving. But driving a car requires focus and attention, so multitasking puts you and others in danger when driving your car.

Survey results often show admissions of shaving legs, ate a taco, put on makeup and drank alcohol. While others show woman bottle-fed her baby-In the backseat!- while driving.

Think you have heard enough? after a multicar pileup on Seattle Interstate 5 caused by a driver using a PDA, The Seattle times asked the readers to email their riskiest behind-the-wheel behavior. No one was quite prepared for the woman who makes coleslaw while driving. She explained that it was her signature dish to take to picnics and she was always running late. Not to worry, she buys pre-shredded cabbage, waits for a stop light or room between the car in the front then whips it up.

The stories may shock you, and yet many people do not think about the dangers.

Blog Makeover

I am currently making a major blog makeover for this site as you can see. It would be very entertaining to click refresh every 10-15 minutes and see it evolve. I am changing the blog inside the HTML code because I cannot get it to change using the fonts and colors section in the layout setting. I am slowly getting the hang of it although it takes a huge trial and error method and keeping track of the codes I am changing. But somehow slowly but surely I am making progress.

Friends, how was your Thanksgiving Break? We had a great time and I baked a turkey successfully for my first time. They said it was not dry and so juicy. I enjoyed running around town buying the needed ingredients and balancing prior appointments with friends and cooking.

It was a good Thanksgiving party. I will post some pictures when I finish the makeover. This would be the final template because I like the outlook. I just need to tweak it a little code wise.

I am always into computers since I was young. I was into programming, gaming, chatting and such. Together with friends, we love exploring the world of computers and always made it a point that we have something new to impart with each other like hacking tips, gaming cheats, strategies, and techniques. We thought we were invincible because other kids who saw our skills were awed and amazed, and these made our computer experience fun. We never thought that there were more out there than just computers; that there is such a word as internet because let’s face it we were still kids playing with computers in the most fun and destructive ways we can think off!

The first time I encountered the internet was through a friend who invited me to come with him. The internet’s most prominent eye catcher to me then was chatting, specifically online chatting. It was like IT BLEW ME AWAY! The concept of chatting for us then was being beside someone talking, but this chatting is way outer space because my friend was talking with someone in Australia, Saudi Arabia, United States, Canada, Europe, even Russia! All at the same time! He was just sitting there but he is going around the world. Making it short, I never had a chance; internet caught me hook, line and sinker. I was spending like a weeks’ allowance of food on a few hours of internet time, believe me internet then was extremely expensive, and I was spending like C-R-A-Z-Y! To be honest, it is like that with any other person who gets hooked on something related or otherwise to this current train of thought, but like any other hobby it wanes. It was more of “I can’t afford it” situation that pulled me out of it rather than a waning thing.

It took a long while for the internet cost to stabilize and make it affordable for me to start again with it, but then it went way too fast for me to catch up to it. The new technology, the lingo, the fast paced session, and everything about it that I realized I was left behind. Yes Friends, some of us get left behind even if we are the ones leading at first. That is the reality in the internet world and it is an edict. It is also true that some of us are left behind before even having the chance to get started. So with that, I just kept to my on interest within the things I like in the internet; Gaming, chat, and basically just surfing for information.

One day, while surfing for information, I realized that online business is getting to be a norm. Back then it was only for advertising your business, but now it turned out to be a full business venture in a new front, the virtual business. We were thinking it was impossible then but it has turned into reality now. Web pages or what we call now as Websites were only used as an event page then but now has become a big money making venture.

Again, since getting left behind it was too late for me to even start it (Wrong!). I discovered that even if you are left behind, you can still start and learn. I said to myself “Why not?” but I was thinking “How?” I need to start somewhere since I do not have the resources and the knowledge. Well, a friend just introduced me to Web logs or “blogs” and said that they too can become a good business source once you get to know the nooks and alleys of it. Also, in blogs according to him, you can write anything about any subject, even your thoughts. This is how I got to start this post. I have been tinkering both the page and my brain, for a month now, looking for that spot and idea to build a foundation towards making a website in the near future. I have been pouring into the internet researching and I tell you it is not easy, but it is an adventure! My brain cells are dancing with joy with all the information I found that I did not even realize existed.

Dear readers, I learned through all these are as long as you don’t give up and you’re willing to learn and look for knowledge, there is something there waiting to be uncovered. The Web is a very huge place and I believe that each of us have enough space in it to belong to. If you are like me, then this place is pretty exciting to be in. As you can see my page now it is not that perfect. It is only natural because it is still half-baked and I am new to the whole idea of it. Why not try it?? If you have been thinking it? Had some idea about it? Want to try it? Then by all means, friends, pick up your keyboards and give it a shot. You might be even better than I am!!

If you are already good and/or a blog guru and have time to spare, I would welcome any kind of help.
