ATV Tour comes through Chapleau

Algoma Sled Tours and Bristol Off-Roading Outfitters hosted the Algoma ATV Tourist Association Fall Colour Tour on September 8th to 10th. Organized to develop and promote recreational ATV tourism, the association has assisted in a number of events and activities in Northern Ontario to demonstrate the potential benefits to economics and recreation that exist.
This is the first tour through Chapleau and the association hopes to work with the community to develop marketing of this area as a part of the wilderness adventures available for off-road enthusiasts. In 2004 Wawa hosted the first ATV Jamboree and in 2005, Manitouwadge hosted the second one. Visiting riders outnumbered local entries for both events, providing the basis for future events to attract tourists to the area. The association is assessing locations for future events where the community will participate and benefit as hosts.

MPP Mike Brown pleased with Heart Health funding

Mike Brown, MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin, welcomes the news of $68,940 in fUnding for the Ontario Heart Health Program today, and thanked the Algoma Health Unit for their role in helping the province dramatically reduce smoking rates since 2003.
"The Take Heart Algoma project is a key program that helps people avoid tobacco use and stay active for the good of their hearts," Brown suggested. "Pro-active programs like this one help to ensure that families in Algoma Manitoulin enjoy the best health care possible."

The Pride and the Groom

About a year ago Chez Chiens, a pet grooming business, opened in Chapleau. Arriving in our town, Andrea Carder decided that the best way to find employment was to create it herself. With assistance from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund for renovations and equipment, she set up shop at 100 Queens Street South.
