We talked about All Girl Moby Dick and her roles in it.

Warwick: You're playing multiple roles, so if you could, I don't know, I guess pick one to talk about. Who they are or if you have any direct or indirect influences for the character?

Erin M.: That's an easy one. The minister, I was in the workshop and we did a lot of work on that, and I'm actually a minister's daughter so you're talking about influences I mean there you go. So that's fun to work on. I mean it's a really intense speech about accepting punishment which I think is hard to hear in some ways. But I really like just as a philosophical idea the notion that what if you consider your life in terms of, whether you believe in God or not, what God wants instead of what you want. It's just an interesting lens to look at a problem or your life through, not that you'd necessarily do that, but for me that kind of, I don't know, it's a really fascinating idea to me. I don't know that I believe it in all life or not, but as far as the speech goes it's just... nobody talks like that. Not even religious right Christians don't talk about not following their own will, they just assume that their own will coincides with Gods. So I just think it's kind of a really interesting speech.

W: What has been the most challenging part of the process for you?

E: Um, I really really really want to do service to every character I play, you know? Just, everything strong, everything distinct, and everything... you know, not just cheap hackery. [laughs] That's been a frightening yet exciting challange.

W: What's the most rewarding?

E: When that works.

W: Nice. What aspect or scene in the show are you most excited for the audience to witness?

E: Oh man, It's hard to say at this point. I think this show, as a whole, once we get tech and everything, once it's up to speed, it's just going to be like a fist fight. Just boom boom boom. I mean I can't isolate one particular thing or moment from the show right now.

W: What attracted you to this project in the first place?

E: Especially when I was younger, and I've adjusted to it somewhat and become a better actor, but when I was younger I used to bitch about the limited kinds of roles available to women and it's something that I've given a lot of thought of and it drove me to get really interested in gender politics and philosophy and that kind of thing. And I also have a strong belief that an actor should be as plastic as possible and you should be able to turn into a whale or a hammer. To be able to transform into something else and to be whatever you need to.
I’ve always felt that the play was better read than watched...until now. I have been waiting for this Godot...Played brilliantly by Justin Warren and Sean Ewert, the affection and fraternity their characters feel for each other is skillfully displayed. The dialogue snaps along effortlessly, and their conveyance of feelings of the moment is delightfully presented... 3 and half out of four stars!

The Chicago Mammals cast does a truly wonderful job. Despite the production’s length, the show maintains its gripping energy throughout. Justin Warren as Gogo and Sean Ewert as Didi are fantastic. They complement each other perfectly...Ultimately, this production of Waiting for Godot succeeds in staying true to Beckett’s honest but dark vision but also makes it accessible. If you feel a need to ponder the absurdity of our existence, while at the same time witnessing some stellar performances, then this production comes highly recommended

Under Director Bob Fisher’s tight reins, the cast pulls us into their waiting room. Justin Warren (Gogo) and Sean Ewert (Didi) keep the mundane banter crisp and playful... Ewert plays straight man to Warren’s antics. Ewert has moments of sincere aggravation while Warren delivers his lines with organic cadence and a mischievous twinkle. The funky, yet endearing, relationship between Warren and Ewert anchor the show.

Auditions will be on Sunday October 28th and Monday October 29th. To reserve an audition spot, please contact us at themammals@gmail.com.

The following projects are just some of the artistic endeavors we are currently seeking collaborators for

POST APOCALYPTIC PUSSY RIOT PROJECT
(open workshop Jan 2013)

It couldn't happen here. Tell that to Jello Biafra, Jim Morrison, and John Lennon. All governments and corporations at one time or another attempt to regulate free speech, either through overt physical oppression, or more secretly through the misuse of copyright infringement to silence dissent, etc. Inspired by the recent incidents involving the infamous Russian Punk Band, The Mammals will be exploring stories that highlight the way in which governments and corporations impinge upon our ability to express ourselves even within the most 'enlightened' democracies.

FEDERICO FELLINI PRESENTS THE OLD TESTAMENT
(open workshop Feb 2013)

An unnamed benefactor has given a huge endowment to a major motion picture studio to hire the "Maestro" to create a opulent and phantasmagoric old testament spectacular. The film is doomed to be an incomplete work. Still, we watch the amazing Federico Fellini as he attempts to use pure creative indulgence in his attempt to understand our place in the universe, our fascinations with sex and how it is all wrapped up in our religious traditions. This episodic piece with be written in collaboration with a pantheon of talented Chicago Playwrights who will be announced soon.

ALL GIRL FRANKENSTEIN
Adapted and Directed by Bob Fisher
(workshop in spring 2013 / full production opens in Sept 2013)

The Mammals present the second part in their ALL GIRL triptych, ALL GIRL FRANKENSTEIN. Having recently produced ALL GIRL MOBY DICK to standing room only, our company is excited about this new adaptation of Mary Shelley's Classic with an ensemble cast entirely of amazing Chicago actresses.devilvethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06011519663535059024noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36856762.post-9559880233222855262012-10-05T07:13:00.004-07:002012-10-05T07:13:40.964-07:00This Weekend Only Online Promo Code "HR" to celebrate the positive press for DON'T GIVE THAT BEAST A NAME!!!
DON'T GIVE THAT BEAST A NAME is the story of newlyweds Frank and Marie, a couple of country western one hit wonders whose fortunes take a dark turn when they get involved in a snake handling church. A southern gothic tale inspired by George Buchner's Woyzeck, Shaped Note Hymnals, Classic Country and Murder Ballads.

WAITING FOR GODOT
by Samuel Beckett
Directed by Bob Fisher
opening in January 2013

Starring Sean Ewert* as Didi, Don Hall as Gogo, Gabe Garza* as Pozzo, Justin Warren as Lucky, and Bert Matias.

During our first decade, the Chicago Mammals have worked exclusively on the production of new works. We are very proud to take this opportunity to look back at one of our heroes and perform one of his most significant plays.

Having recently produced ALL GIRL MOBY DICK to standing room only, our company is excited about this new adaptation of Mary Shelley's Classic with an ensemble cast entirely of amazing Chicago actresses.
