Another Picture of the Natural Spring in Pennsylvania

I was playing around with the FX camera on my smart phone while we were out visiting in Pennsylvania. The natural spring really caught my eye and I looked at it as an opportunity to try taking different pics. This picture is the same natural spring and is the same waterfall in the previous post. I just used the FX camera to try something different. I thought this looked pretty cool! What made this even cooler is the camera setting really only changed the water that was coming down the waterfall. For the most part the rest of this natural spring looks the same.

Natural Spring in Pennsylvania

This is a natural spring in Pennsylvania. I do not remember the name of it but it was close to Shippensburg, PA. This water is from the ground, cleaner then any stream and I would imagine quite cool. I thought this natural spring was cool as the water is so clear you can see the bottom right above the little waterfall. I am not sure how deep this natural spring is here, I would guess maybe 4 or 5 feet deep but the water is so clear that the spring may even be deeper then that. There are many places out there in Pennsylvania that the water is so clean you can safely drink it without filtering. The natural spring here has cleaner water then the tap water, especially if you have town water! I had to share the pic as I could not get over how clean the water is in this natural spring. Look at the top of the waterfall, that is the bottom you see.

This Picture was an Accident but Cool

This is a picture that does not look anything like what it really is, at least I do not think it does. It was a dark night and my hand must have moved a little. That is what I am guessing by the way the picture looked. Thought it turned out really cool especially for being an accident! Can you guess what this is a picture of?

The Praying Mantis and the Katydid

After Hurricane Irene, we walked down to the Delaware River to take pictures. Some of the pictures were previously posted here. While I was taking the pictures of the river, I happened to look down and right in front of me was a praying mantis! I love the praying mantis, I think they are so cool. So there I was so in tuned with taking pictures of the river that I did not even notice that there was a praying mantis maybe 2 feet away from me on the top of the fence. I took a few pictures but unfortunately (and I think it is because I was trying too hard for close-ups with my Droid) most of the pictures were blurry. The background is crystal clear but the praying mantis was blurry. It was so cool tho, at one point it seemed to be watching me as I was trying to get the right angle. I had a really cool pic but he or she was too blurry and it did not come out good. In that pic, it was looking ahead at me and front legs hanging down off the fence. I think we interrupted lunch tho, a katydid was only about a foot away from the praying mantis. I did get a couple pictures of the two.

We went back down to the river in the morning yesterday after the river had crested and just starting dropping. It crested at 29 feet which is moderate flood stage-flood stage is 22 feet.

Not long after we had all that rain from Hurricane Irene and the Delaware River reached 3 feet above flood stage, we got hit again with more rain from Tropical Storm Lee. The rain didn't want to stop this time, it rained from Monday-Thursday. Now the Delaware has flooded again.

We Got Hit By Hurricane Irene

Well, Hurricane Irene hit us with a lot of rain. Here we go again with the Delaware River! We didn't get hit as bad as they were saying tho-phew! The Delaware River was originally forecasted to crest at 31 feet which would have been a little crazy around here but fortunately it was cresting a little lower. When these pictures were taken, the Delaware River was about 24 feet which is 2 feet above flood stage.

The Tortoise in Our Yard

I looked out off my deck one morning and I saw something moving in my yard by my pepper plants. It was hard to tell what it was from my deck so I got a closer look. When I got down there I found this little tortoise crawling around by my pepper plants. He or she walked around the yard for a little while, hung out on some rocks by the fence and then must have moved on. I didn't see it later on in the day and have not seen it come back since. People told me I should have kept it but I figured he or she was in their natural environment and seemed to be content. I let it be and thought it would be happy in the wild. Surprisingly it did not eat any of the lettuce I have growing in the garden!

A Day Out At the Delaware Water Gap

We took the kids on an adventure to a place called the Delaware Water Gap. We made it to be quite a fun day, we had a fun picnic and all. More details about our picnic (it really covers having a great day anywhere you can sit outside and eat) is located here: Affordable Activity With the Kids. We had so much fun, I wrote an article about it :) This is a beautiful lake that is named Crater Lake. It gets real busy in the summer but we were lucky enough to get a nice day before the summer began, we were one of the only ones there. It is quite beautiful up there.

The Delaware Flooded Again

We had two storms in a week that dumped a lot of rain on us! The river rose last Sunday and Monday and didn't get the chance to really go down much before it rained again on last Thursday. This caused the river to crest in moderate flood stage. No major damage that I am aware of.

In this picture you can usually see rocks on the bottom, it is at the bottom of a dam that is completely flooded over.

It came up over the road this time. Rt 611 is at the tree line and is partially under water also

It wasn't as bad as the floods a few years back when the house broke loose and floated down the river. The house had crashed into the free bridge.

It is a good thing the river has high banks or a lot of people would have been in trouble!

Snow by the river

Yesterday we walked down to the river in the snow. Most of this snow was from a storm we had earlier in the week, we did not get a lot of snow yesterday. It was a pretty day, you can barely see the seagulls on the river. They must have been freezing! Both of the pictures were taken from the free bridge.

Ice on the tree

We had a storm which produced more ice then anything else a couple of weeks ago. This was a tree out by our back deck. Unfortunately when I went down by the river, I did not have my phone to take pictures of the ice by the river. It was beautiful but was getting close to dark and I did not have time to go back and get my phone before it got dark.

Snow Day :)

Girls had a snow day today :) We decided to go out and build a snow man but I wasn't prepared with carrots for the nose! First the girls called this their snow woman but then my youngest started saying it was her boyfriend lol. They had a lot of fun and so did I.

Our Gingerbread House Village

The girls assembled and decorated 5 gingerbread houses that are part of a little village. It was fun for them and now that it is complete, it makes a nice holiday decoration :)

Our Halloween Pumpkin this Year

This was our pumpkin this year. I found the idea online for this year. I thought it was cute and different from all the previous pumpkins I have carved. I was so proud of it this year. I think because I drew the stencil after seeing it online and the whole family was really happy with it.

Here are some pics from the massive amount of rain we got a couple of weeks ago. The Delaware did not quite hit flood stage by us but came very close. We were in a bad drought or else we would have been in trouble!

We had a massive amount of rain and our Delaware River started to rise. We were in a drought at the time we got all this rain, if we weren't their would have been some real flooding! This picture above is a picture of the dam the day before the river crested. Below is a picture of the dam again :) Well ok I promise the dam is there, you just can't see it.

The Cute Kitten

This kitten is a kitten that comes up and hangs out on the deck with us. He is our neighbors cat but is always welcome on our deck. I used a new app that I downloaded for my smartphone. This was taken with my phone. Such a curious little guy he is!

I had a hard time picking two pictures out of a set of four that I took. This was on a walk one night, we were down at the bridge by the river and I saw how beautiful the sunset was. Fortunately I have a nice camera on my phone to be able to catch this sky!

I love pictures of the sky. The sky can be quite amazing at times. I don't always have the opportunity to catch some of the great views of the sky but this was a nice moment. It was taken from my deck on a night in between rain storms.

Here is Prancer. We went to a Christmas event where we saw Santa arrive on his sleigh. Prancer was hanging out for everybody to see. He is a real reindeer.

These two pictures are of the river by the house. The top one is the dam where 2 rivers meet. The bottom one is a mighty river, a lot of the other rivers around in my state eventually lead into this river. The bridges in the bottom pictures are the railroad bridges. The harder to see one in the back is for the train that crosses under my road close to my house. When this train goes by I see it from my living room window. Both bridges are active.

This is what my pumpkin looked like after the animal got at it. I have to admit tho it looks pretty cool with the scratch marks. Not sure what got into it we have a few wild animals plus neighborhood cats. Not sure who to give the credit to for the modification!

Here was my pumpkin the night I carved it. I actually picked something simple to carve this year and I am glad I did as an animal got into later on that night! It is still ok but now has claw marks on the eyes.
