FITNESS AND FAITH GO HAND AND HAND

Today, we hear a lot about how we should be physically fit. Just what does fitness mean and how does it relate to our faith?
Being fit means that we are healthy and in good physical condition. Which encompasses every area of our lives including eating and drinking healthy, getting enough sleep at night and exercising. Because the more fit that we are the better we will feel physically, emotionally, and spiritually. When we are physically fit it makes it easier for us to do our daily task at home or at work. And it is especially beneficial to be physically fit for the special work that God has assigned for us through the exercising of our special talents and spiritual gifts.
God sends missionaries to foreign countries where they have to walk for miles and miles before they reach the next village. If they are physically fit then their legs and feet will be strong enough to keep mobilized for the long journeys ahead. Pastors know that preaching is not only spiritual, but it also involves a lot of physical work to stand up and deliver a sermon. Which is why many pastors take Mondays off after preaching on Sunday to rest and get refueled. Therefore, ministers have to take care of their physical health to continue to be used of God. Those that God has graciously bestowed upon the spiritual gift of helps may require a lot of hard physical work. And without being physically fit most of the task that they are assigned will never be accomplished.
A weak physical condition can also cause depression as in the case of the Prophet Elijah who was running for his life according to 1 Kings 19:1-4. After a day’s journey he was hungry, exhausted, and wanted to die. When our physical state is depleted things have a tendency to seem worse than they really are. And we feel helpless and our faith in God fails. And if we act on our feelings in a depressed state, we will regret it when we are revived. But thankfully Elijah’s wish was not granted and after he nourished his body with food, water, and rested, he was no longer depressed, his faith in God was renewed and he was able to fulfill what God wanted him to do.
Prayer is an activity that takes us into the spiritual realm, but it involves a lot of physical work. Prayer warriors know that they have to be physically fit just to stay awake in order to pray for hours in intercessory prayer for all of saints. Especially when they add fasting to their prayers along with the agony and travailing that accompany extremely intense prayers for more serious situations. In fact, operating in the spiritual realm can sometimes ware down the physical body more than any other activity. Especially our spiritual battles against the devil and his demons (Ephesians 6:12). This is why we must take the time out to keep ourselves physically fit so that we do not become vulnerable and susceptible to yielding to the temptations of the devil. And fulfill God’s calling for our lives.

Will Jesus Christ return this Saturday?

Will this Saturday be the end of the Christian Olympics, the most enormous and longest competition the world has ever seen?

There are many groups claiming that on May 21,2011, what is known as the Rapture, the return of Jesus Christ for His followers, will take place this Saturday.

Could this be true? Is it possible to predict the day that Jesus Christ will return?

Answers to questions about the return of Jesus Christ can be found in the Bible’s analogy of a Jewish marriage in biblical times. Jesus Christ is called in the scriptures the bridegroom. And the Church, the spectacles in the Christian Olympics, or Christians are known as the bride of Christ.(St. John 3 :29, Romans 7:4, Ephesians 5:22-32,2 Corinthians 11:2 ,Revelations 19:7). In the Jewish custom, the bridegroom had to leave his father’s home and travel to the potential bride’s home. In order to purchase his bride from her father for a price. Jesus came from His Father’s home in heaven, to earth the home of His potential bride. He died on the cross and purchased His bride with His own blood from Satan the brides father(St. John 8:44, 1 John 3:8-10,1 Corinthians 6:20, 1 Peter 1:19). Then the bridegroom left and went back to his father’s house. After Jesus rose from the dead, He went back to His Father’s house in heaven (Acts 1:11).

The bridegroom would now start preparing a place in his father’s house for his bride. Before Jesus went back to heaven, He said that His Father’s house had many mansions and he was going to prepare a place for His bride.(St.. John 14:1-2)

Time would elapse while the bridegroom prepares for his bride. In the meantime the bride would prepare for marriage. When the bridegroom was ready he would travel to his bride’s home with his wedding party to take his bride to live with him. Although the bride knew that the bridegroom was coming to get her, she did not know when, so she had to be ready at anytime. When Jesus Christ finishes preparing a place for His bride, the Church He will come back for her in the sky with His heavenly host (St. John 14:3, 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18).So the Church, the bride of Christ has to be ready at any time.

The analogy of a Jewish wedding is also used in the parable of the ten virgins. To further illustrate and to emphasize that no one will ever know the day or the hour that Jesus Christ will return. Our only instructions are to be prepared to go and to watch. (St. Matthew 25:1-13).

Are you prepared ? Are you watching? Are you looking for Jesus Christ to return ?He could return any day, any hour, any minute, or any second.

It could be today, tonight, or while you are reading this. You can prepare yourself right now to go with Jesus Christ when he comes back by praying this prayer:

Dear God:

I believe that I am a sinner. I am sorry. Please forgive me for my sins. I do not want to go to hell when I die, but have eternal life in heaven with you. I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is God, who became a man to die in my place. I receive His death and the blood that He shed to wash my sins away as payment for the penalty of my sins. I believe in my heart that you raised Jesus Christ bodily from the grave. I now receive your gift of eternal life. Thank you for saving me from hell because of Jesus. In His name I pray. Amen.

The Flames Have Been Lit For The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics AND THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS...........

The flames were lit for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games on October 22, 2009 in Olympia, Greece. Keeping up with an ancient tradition there was a lighting ceremony for this exciting event. Olympia is the home of the Olympic flame and it was where the ancient Olympic Games took place about 3,000 years ago. There are many references to these ancient games throughout the Bible. And the Christian life has been compared to an Olympic competition.

According to tradition, the flames are always ignited in Olympia, Greece. The sunlight is used to ignite the Olympic flame by focusing the sun on a metal reflector. After the lighting ceremony, the Olympic Torch Rely began by transporting the Olympic Flame to Athens, Greece, where the first modern games took place in 1896. It arrived in Athens on October 29 for the handover ceremony, where the Olympic Flame was handed over to the Canadians for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. In attendance was Greek's President Karolos Papoulias and Her Excellency the Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean, who is the Governor General of Canada.

The Olympic Flame arrived in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia on October 30, which started the Canadian Olympic Torch Rely and the count down to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. The Torch Rely will run its course for the next 106 days to arrive on February 12, 2010 just in time for the Opening Ceremonies in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Which is the second largest country in the world. This will be the third time that Canada will host an Olympic event. This Torch Rely is to be considered the longest in Winter Olympic history, traveling all throughout Canada.

But there is another competition known as the Christian Olympics that began over 2,000 years ago with the lighting of the flame of fire, at the divine Opening Ceremony, that still burns today. This is the longest and largest running competition in the world. The flame still burns today because there has not been a closing ceremony in order to extinguish the flame since it began. And when it will close remains a mystery, but what we do know according to the Bible, it could happen any day, any hour, any minute, any moment, at the twinkling of an eye. Until then there is still time to go for the gold.

The Special Olympics Got Game Too

Eunice Kennedy Shriver passed away on Tuesday August 11,2009. She was the founder of the Special Olympics and a lifetime advocate for people with intellectual disabilities. The Special Olympics is a movement of sports training and athletic competition for those that have intellectual disabilities. Shriver believed that people with intellectual disabilities deserve the same opportunities and experiences as others.
No matter what the disability, a person still has a talent, a skill, and a gift to give to the world when encouraged doing so. Using sports as a display of abilities brings about respect, acceptance and inclusion. Persons with disabilities benefit by seeing in themselves that they too have talents and it helps them to feel better about themselves. It also serves as a teaching tool to those who may have thought that disabled people were useless until they were afforded the opportunities to witness their grand performances.
The venue of sports has a way of bringing people together from all walks of life, nationalities, cultures, races and backgrounds. Along with the exercises, discipline and vigorous training that it takes to be athletically fit to play a specific sport; building character, strength, strong muscles, and team work.
No wonder the Bible is full of metaphors that compare the Christian life to that of an athlete. Since everyone seems to be able to relate to sports, God used these metaphors to help us understand the Christian life. No matter what physical or mental state we are in, we all have talents, skills, and gifts that have been given to us by God. But many times we are not encouraged to use them or to even find out what they are. Which is especially frustrating for those that have disabilities. Instead we must go after them, train, and master our skills like an athlete does for his specific sport. Athletes know what their talents and skills are and will train in that specific sport. Some people spend their time going after a talent that they do not have because they like it. Or because someone else has the talent that they want. But not athletes, they will not train in a sport that they do not have the talent for. They are content with their own God given abilities and not the abilities that someone else has. They know that they can find their significance and place in society by using their own God given talents and skills. Which is what Eunice Kennedy Shriver did to help the intellectually disabled find their significance through the Special Olympics.

Who Are The Spiritual Superstars ?

Superstars are celebrities who are well known, in fact, everyone knows him or her. Celebrities are people that have fame, are renown, widely recognized, famous and are well-publicized people. They are household words. When you say his or her name everyone knows whom you are talking about. What makes them superstars is that there is no one like them, they are the best at what they do. No one can top them. Superstars are very successful and the best in their particular field, having accumulated a lot of wealth and material gain. You know that you are a celebrity with superstar status when you become a sensation for the tabloids. Get followed around aggressively by the paparazzi and be courted by the media, like such superstars as Michael Jackson, Queen Elizabeth, Michael Phelps, and Oprah Winfrey. .

But who are the Spiritual Superstars?

Spiritual superstars are also well known and very successful and the best in their particular field. They also have fame, are renown, widely recognized, famous and are well-publicized people. They are household words. When you say his or her name everyone knows whom you are talking about.

But spiritual superstars’ fame and renown recognition is in heaven around the throne of God. And God Himself publicizes it giving them wide recognition. A perfect example would be a man in the Old Testament of the Bible that all of heaven was talking about, whom God considered to be His servant, and his name was Job. A book in the Bible is named after this spiritual superstar

He was from the land of Uz and was a very wealthy man.”...the greatest of all the men of the east.” (Job 1:3). And “.. that there is none like him in the earth,...”(Job 1:8) because he was a perfect man who was upright, who feared God, and the type of man that would turn away from anything that was evil. Here we see that he met the criteria of being a superstar because there was no other person like him in the world. He was the best in his service to God. The world may not have considered him a celebrity or superstar. People living on the earth may have never heard of him during a particular time of his life. But God had the whole host of heaven talking about Job Job’s name became a heaven hold word. When Job’s name was mentioned in heaven everyone knew whom they were talking about.

Job was a spiritual superstar just because of the simple fact that he feared God. His status of superstardom caused him to be treated just like a celebrity by the way he was watched and followed by the tabloids and the paparazzi.

Because Satan was like and still is the tabloid reporter walking around the earth looking for a scandal to present something sensational about a spiritual superstar. And he and his demons are the paparazzi that follow the spiritual superstars relentlessly everywhere they go hoping to catch them doing something that will discredit their superstardom. As in the case of Job, when God was proudly bragging to Satan about His spiritual superstar, it was revealed that Satan had been aggressively following. Job. And had figured out a way to knock Job from his spiritual superstar status. God allowed Satan to go ahead with his scheme to destroy every material thing that Job had along with his children. But in the midst of his tragedy, Job remained faithful to God and kept his spiritual superstar status. As if that was not enough, Satan had another scheme and that was to cause Job to become sick with excruciating, endless pain. And again God gave His permission and though Job suffered he still remained God’s spiritual superstar. Because he endured the pain, suffering, criticism and the ridicule that often follows a superstar, along with the false accusations, the humiliation and the isolation.

After a period of time, God healed Job, blessed him, and gave Job more riches than he had before. Now Job is a household name and everyone knows that he was a spiritual superstar. But we would have never known about Job if he had not gone through such tremendous suffering. Because before all of this happened to Job, no one in the world knew that Job was God’s spiritual superstar. The world may never know who the spiritual superstars are until God reveals it on earth through their suffering, the effects of spiritual superstardom.

The Day of Pentecost, The Divine Opening Ceremony of The Christian Olympics

Wynnewood, PA, May 30,2009, Christians all over the world will celebrate the Day of Pentecost, the anniversary of the Church, this Sunday May 31,2009. Michael Phelps Confessing....Josh Davis’ Medals Missing.....

It appears that we have marched through the months of March and April without any Olympic scandals.
As you will recall, during the month of February, Michael Phelps, who has won the most medals than any Olympian, made the headlines. But it was not what the world was expecting. Apparently a photo surfaced catching him in the very act of smoking marijuana. Even though he apologized, he disappointed his fans, lost an endorsement, and was suspended by USA Swimming.
As if that was not enough in the same month, Olympian Josh Davis reported that some of his medals were missing. Davis who does motivational speaking, takes his medals with him to show to young people. After returning from a trip, he left them in his unlocked vehicle while attending a basketball game. Later he noticed that the medals were missing from his travel bag. Thankfully a couple of days later they were found.
What will be the next shocking news in the media about an Olympian? Will there be any surprises this month? Be assured that this is not the first and will not be the last. Those that receive Olympic medals are not flawless and will make mistakes. The medals of gold, silver, and bronze are a valuable, tangible commodity and can be lost or stolen
But you will never hear about Christian Olympians that have received their gold crowns making mistakes, being an embarrassment, and a disappointment. Because they will not actually receive their Gold Crowns until they go to heaven. Which is a benefit because they will never have to worry about rust corrupting it or thieves breaking in to steal their Gold Crowns. SPIRITUAL FITNESS

Most of the topics for newspapers, magazines, talk radio, and other media for the New Year has to do with loosing weight, eating healthy, and exercising. These topics bring loads of advertisements for such things as diet books, diet foods and loads of weight loss products, whole food products, along with exercising equipment to keep in shape.
All of this to help us to live and eat healthier so that we can be physically fit.
But what about our spiritual fitness? We are not just physical beings. We are spiritual beings as well and need to address the needs of our spiritual nature.
To be spiritually fit we have to feed our spiritual nature with spiritual food and do spiritual exercises. Spiritual fitness also involves spiritual training and spiritual discipline.
As we take care of the physical, let us not forget the spiritual as well. One of our spiritual exercises is walking by faith. Unlike physical walking where we can see where we are going, spiritual walking is by faith and not by sight.(2 Cor.5:7). Walking by faith is believing God’s promises will be fulfilled even when we can’t see them. With the gloomy situation that the world is in today, we need spiritual fitness more now then we ever did before. Having a healthy spiritual life will also help us with our physical fitness.

Pastor Ed Young's Sexperiment

In sports, athletes always develop a game plan so that they can win their competitions.
They know that they cannot possibly win without first getting a strategy together so that they can figure out how they can beat their opponents. They would never go into a game empty handed without a plan and expect to win.
It is the same way for Christians, as spiritual athletes, we have to develop a game plan or strategies so that we can win our competitions. This is so important to the spiritual athlete that I devoted chapter 4, in my book: The Christian Olympics: Going for the Gold Crowns, to address how to plan strategies. Even when it comes to sexual temptations for Christians, a strategic plan must be in place in order to resist our competitor Satan, who tempts us to commit sexual sins.
We don’t have to look very far to find a strategic plan to win our competitions. God would never leave us to be clueless, become frantic, and wonder what we should do. He has given us His Word, the Bible, and if we carefully search the scriptures, we will find His strategic plans. The strategic plan for winning the wrestling match with sexual temptation for the married(a man and a woman) is found in 1 Corinthians. 7:3-5
These verses teach that married couples are to have sexual relations regularly and continuously. It is suppose to be a part of married life as eating and sleeping. It is in God’s plan that married couples would never deny each other of their sexual union together unless it is agreed upon by both and only for a short time for fasting and prayer.
Why does God want married couples to have sex regularly?
That answer is found in verse 5 where we find the word ‘’. The meaning for the word ‘incontinency’ is to be absent of the virtue in restraining the sexual appetite.
This means that married couples do not have self control when it comes to their sexual appetite. Which makes them vulnerable when Satan tempts them to commit a sexual sin simply because they are not having sexual relations regularly. Therefore, the strategic plan for married couples to win their competitions when it comes to sexual temptations is to have sexual relations regularly.
Pastor Young’s “Sexperiment” not only helped couples have a better marriage but it also helped married couples to put into practice God’s strategic plan for winning the wrestling matches of sexual temptations.

The 2008 World Series Champions: The Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have not won a World Series since 1980. You can only imagine the disappointment, the discouragement, and the ridicule and boos from the fans that they endured for 28 years. But did they quit? Give up?, Stop trying? Did they let what others said about them rob them of their goal to be world champions? No, they kept their eyes on the prize.
This is just another among the many metaphors for the endurance, longevity, and persistence needed to finish the race of faith, the Christian Olympics. (Phil 3:13-14)

The 2008 Paralympic Games and the Christian Olympics

The 2008 Paralympic Summer Games began in Beijing, China today, September 6, 2008, at the exact place where the 2008 Summer Olympic Games were held last month. These games will end with their closing ceremony on September 17
The Paralympic Games is a competition where athletes with various disabilities compete in sporting events against each other. These athletes show a display of courage and hope that extends far beyond their physical disabilities. That no matter what their circumstances maybe it will not stop them from training, being athletically fit, and competing to win gold.
Although Paralympic Games are separate from the Olympic Games, the Christian Olympics have no such separation. Every Christian whether they are disabled, have a sickness, a handicap, and/or any type of infirmity and weakness or have the best of health and no disabilities participate in the Christian Olympics.
In The Christian Olympics:Going for the Gold Crowns, the Apostle Paul, who compared the Christian life to the Olympic Games, had an infirmity that he called a “thorn in the flesh.” The Bible does not say what is was, but it bothered Paul enough to ask God to remove it from him three times. Though Paul’s request was not granted, God gave him something better than removing the infirmity, God gave Paul His grace to replace his weakness. This grace was God’s divine strength that enabled Paul, in spite of his infirmity, to finish his race and receive crowns of gold. In the 2008 Summer Beijing Olympics as in all sports every athlete individually or as a team has a coach. The coaches give their athletes the game plan and then they stand by so that their athletes can implement the plan or put it to action. They cannot play along with them or be right beside them. They can only stand by and watch. But in the Christian Olympics their Coach not only gives the spiritual athletes the game plan but stays with them, is right beside them and never leaves them during the competitions.

The 2008 Olympic Trials have already begun. These trials are held for athletes to compete against each other to see who is qualified to represent their country in the Beijing Olympics. Every athlete will not be an Olympian or get the opportunity to compete in Beijing because not all athletes will make it through the trials. Unlike the Olympic Games, there are no Olympic trials involved in the Christian Olympics. Because all Christians have the opportunity to compete in the Christian Olympics. In fact, the moment a person becomes a Christian they become a spiritual athlete and begin their competition as an Olympian in the Christian Olympics.

More than any other sport, golf is the sport whose success in winning determines how golfers think and what is on their minds before and while they are swinging their golf club.

The mind and thought pattern of spectacles in the Christian Olympians are also extremely important to win the competitions. By not having our minds conformed to this world, but by having our minds renewed (Romans 12:1-2).

Wimbledon 2007

It was reported at Wimbledon that one of the champions' stated that not only does he play his game of tennis but at the same time he has to deal with the mental anguish and stress that is also part of the game. In the Christian Olympics we may also experience mental anguish and stress. But if we keep our mind on God, He promises to keep us in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3)

AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

It was exciting to watch the USA Track & Field today. It was very similar to Christians running the spiritual race. The runners displayed their endurance capabilities. They showed their strengths, muscles, and talents. All of their training and practicing paid off. Even though all of the runners finished the race, only the ones' that were the fastest were declared the winners. But one of the differences is that in the spiritual race all finishers are declared winners no matter how long it takes for them to reach the finish line.
