Celebrities use CBD oil to ease pain of walking in high heels

2019-01-08T16:22:00.001-08:00

Mandy Moore, Michelle Williams and Olivia Wilde are among the celebrities who recently talked about using CBD oil to help with their aching feet while walking in high heels during

the 2018 Golden Globe awards, specifically a lotion made by a company called Lord Jones.

“This year I’m trying some CBD oil on my feet, which my stylist recommended. I asked her if there was some kind of numbing cream, and she was like, ‘No! [Try] Lord Jones CBD Oil.’ So it could be a really exciting evening! I could be floating this year,” Moore said in a recent interview with Coveteur. “I always try to choose really comfortable shoes, because as I’ve gotten older I just can’t hack being in heels for an extended period of time. Last year I thought I had gone for a pair of comfortable heels, but by the end of the night I was in so much pain I felt like I was walking on glass, so I kind of ended the evening early… Although honestly, I’ll find any excuse for an early night.”

Stylist Karla Welch also praised the Lord Jones lotion on Instagram recently.

"A shout out to my friends @thelordjones," she wrote. "Their pain and wellness cream with CBD is the absolute CURE for aching feet on the red carpet. Don't worry, your feet aren't going to get high but this miracle cream is going to make a long #GoldenGlobes evening much more fun. So until designers learn how to make a stiletto as comfy as sneakers, @thelordjones is in my styling kit. #thisisnotanad."

According to the Lord Jones website, the High-CBD lotion is a "soothing, rich, luxurious lotion designed to be penetrating and readily absorbed. Formulated with a natural agent that creates a cooling sensation upon contact, our moisturizing lotion has been crafted to deliver unparalleled absorption in an extra strength formula."

The lotion features the Lord Jones Signature Fragrance, fresh with notes of sage, mint and green citrus and also comes in an odorless version.

Lord Jones oil is on the pricey side at $60 for a 50ml bottle, but if you'd like to give CBD oil a try for yourself without breaking the bank, try our favorite brand from Amazon for only $19.99:

Where does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stand on Marijuana?

2019-01-04T21:16:00.000-08:00

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who just took office as the youngest person ever elected to Congress, has taken the world of politics by storm, galvanizing liberal supporters and drawing endless attacks from conservatives over everything from her appearance to her dance moves. But where does stand on the issue of marijuana and cannabis legalization?

Ocasio-Cortez is a big supporter of not only marijuana legalization but ending the drug war in general and reforming the criminal justice system, as she has stated several times on social media and on her campaign website.

Ocasio-Cortez supports the federal legalization of marijuana, ending for-profit prisons and detention centers, the release of individuals incarcerated for nonviolent drug offenses, the end of cash bail, and automatic, independent investigations each and every time an individual is killed by law enforcement, according to her campaign site.

Ocasio-Cortez also addressed the issue during a recent live Instagram video, calling marijuana “a tool” used to oppress black and brown people and suggested that it should be regulated in order to ensure a safe product.

On Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez further explained her stance.

“The United States imprisons more of its own people than any other country in the world, “ she wrote. “And more African-Americans are under correctional control today than were enslaved in 1850. Criminal Justice reform is long past due. I support efforts to reduce our prison population by 50 percent.”

In order to accomplish the 50 percent reduction, Ocasio-Cortez suggested legalizing cannabis, ending the drug war, stopping the use of prisons as mental wards, revisiting mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenders, pursuing parole and probation reform and supporting transition programs for those released from prison.

Marijuana will not be allowed inside 2019 Coachella music festival

2019-01-03T19:14:00.000-08:00

According to a report from Newsweek today, the organizers of the annual Coachella music festival in Indio, Calif. have decided not to allow cannabis or cannabis products inside this year's event, despite marijuana being legalized in the state. The organizers pinned the blame on the City of Indio's strict rules against pot, but others blamed festival founder Philip Anschutz, a right-wing billionaire who has been outspoken about his opposition to legalized marijuana.

In the past, Anschutz is said to have donated more than $200,000 to anti-cannabis groups in Colorado including Smart Colorado and Smart Approaches, according to the Newsweek article. He has also been criticized for his alleged donations to anti-LGBTQ groups, but denied the allegations, saying that he "unequivocally supports the rights of all people without regard to sexual orientation.

The 2019 Coachella music festival is scheduled for April 12-21 and will feature headliners Childish Gambino, Tame Impala and Ariana Grande along with dozens of other artists. For more information, visit www.coachella.com.

Darryl Strawberry says marijuana is a 'gateway drug' and ruins lives

2019-01-02T16:20:00.000-08:00

Former Major League Baseball star Darryl Strawberry went off on an anti-drug rant in a recent interview with TMZ Sports, specifically targeting marijuana, saying that the substance is a "gateway drug" and ruins lives.

"Most people don't understand marijuana is a drug," the 56-year-old said in the interview. "It's just the beginning. Starting people off when they're young and then it leads to everything else."

The retired baseball pro was also critical of drugs in general and the pharmaceutical companies that have "opened the floodgates" to the opioid epidemic but he placed the blame on marijuana as the root of the problem.

"Most young people start off with marijuana ... it's a gateway. I started with marijuana when I was young —14, 15 years old — and it led me to everything else."

Strawberry has been known to have struggled with substance abuse in the past and was suspended three different times during his professional baseball career for testing positive for cocaine.

Duke University study shows that exposure to cannabis alters DNA of sperm

2019-01-02T15:15:00.001-08:00

The recently published results of a study at Duke University showed a direct correlation between exposure to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive chemical in cannabis, and structural and regulatory changes in the DNA of sperm.

“What we have found is that the effects of cannabis use on males and their reproductive health are not completely null, in that there’s something about cannabis use that affects the genetic profile in sperm,” said Scott Kollins, Ph.D., professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke and senior author of the study.

“We don’t yet know what that means, but the fact that more and more young males of child-bearing age have legal access to cannabis is something we should be thinking about,” Kollins said.

The study looked at users who smoked cannabis at least weekly for the previous six months and compared their sperm with individuals who had not been exposed to THC in the previous six months and no more than 10 times in their lifetime. The more THC the men had in their urine, the study found, the more pronounced the genetic changes to their sperm.

How the genetic changes could affect a child born of one of the altered sperm was not addressed in the study and is still not know.

According to one of the researchers involved in the study, "it's unknown whether sperm affected by THC could be healthy enough to even fertilize an egg and continue it's development into an embryo."

Marijuana stocks soaring headed into 2018

2018-01-01T09:38:00.001-08:00

As the world rings in the New Year of 2018, marijuana investors have something extra to celebrate. According to multiple sources, including Bloomberg.com, marijuana stocks saw a big rally at the end of 2017, due in part to a huge investment by alcoholic beverage company Constellation Brands into cannabis grow company Canopy Growth.

According to Bloomberg, the Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences Index ETF, the largest marijuana-focused exchange-traded fund, has seen an increase of 74 percent since launching last April. Notable individual stocks include Delta 9 Cannabis, which surged 1,200 percent in 2017 and WeedMDInc., which was up 165 percent.

For those interested in investing in the burgeoning industry, the Motley Fool, recommends investing in Canadian marijuana stocks due to the substance's questionable legality at the federal level in the U.S. The market is more stable and the Canadian government seems to be embracing the new industry to a greater degree.

According to New Cannabis Ventures, the Canadian Cannabis LP index, which includes 27 publicly traded LPs, increased 146 percent during the year.

Study shows cannabidiol has potential to treat schizophrenia

2017-12-29T22:31:00.000-08:00

A study published Dec. 5 by the American Journal of Psychiatry shows that cannabidiol (CBD), a substance found in marijuana, could have beneficial effects in patients with schizophrenia.

A group of trial patients took 1000mg of CBD per day along with their existing antipsychotic medication. After six weeks of treatment, compared with a placebo group, the CBD group had lower levels of positive psychotic symptoms, according to the study, and were more likely to have been rated as "improved" and as "not severely unwell." The CBD group also showed greater improvements in cognitive performance, but not by a wide enough margin to be statistically significant.

The study also noted that the CBD treatment was well-tolerated and adverse events were similar between the CBD group and the placebo group.

Government Sets Marijuana Banking Rules

2014-02-14T12:15:00.001-08:00

The Obama administration announced today that rules have been set for banks dealing with those who
legally sell marijuana.

Previously, most banks have refused to work with marijuana dispensaries due to fear of being prosecuted for handling drug money, which has led many to run cash only businesses. As a result, marijuana dispensaries have become targets for thieves looking for a big cash score.

The new rules, which were issued by the Treasury and Justice Departments, are intended to "move from the shadows the historically covert financial operations of marijuana businesses," said Jennier Shasky Calvery, director of the Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network in an interview with NBC News.

Under the new regulations, banks will be required to verify that the marijuana dealers they're working with are properly licensed and will be required to report any signs that dealers are engaging in illegal transactions.

2014-02-11T20:25:00.001-08:00

This bud of Green Lantern is one of the top-shelf offerings from Canna Express in San Luis Obispo, CA and it doesn't disappoint. This Sativa features gorgeous orange hairs, a nice citrus aroma with undertones of skunkiness and a nice heady high that won't weigh you down. I could see this strain being great for depression. It sure lifted my spirits!

Strain Review: Humboldt Chem Dawg

2013-02-16T12:18:00.000-08:00

Humboldt Chem Dawg from IV Green Rush Collective in El Centro, CA

For the past couple of years I've been getting my meds from the Desert Wellness Patients Association, mainly because they were the only game in town. Desert Wellness NEVER disappoints on their top-shelf buds, they are almost always of superb quality, but for those of us on a budget Desert Wellness's top shelf buds are often not affordable at $110 for a quarter-ounce. Desert Wellness does offer some lower shelf buds at $80 per quarter but the quality is not always the greatest.

The newest dispensary delivery service in the Imperial Valley, IV Green Rush Collective is now giving Desert Wellness some competition. I've ordered from Green Rush a few times and most of the buds I got were not properly cured and were very dry, but my most recent order, a quarter of Humboldt Chem Dawg, was of top-notch quality and was $90 for a quarter-ounce versus $110 for Desert Wellness top-shelf. Kudos to Green Rush for giving us a budget option for top-shelf meds!

The Humboldt Chem Dawg from Green Rush is a pleasure to smoke. Nice, dense buds with good trichome coverage and lots of bright orange hairs, and an unbelievable taste. The delicious hashiness will linger on your tongue for hours. The medication is extremely effective and long-lasting. Great for pain relief and inspiring creative feelings.

Marijuana Mouth Spray Seeking FDA Approval

2012-01-24T09:23:00.000-08:00

CBS News is reporting that a British Pharmaceutical company called GW Pharma has began clinical trials on a marijuana-based mouth spray that the company hopes will one day used to treat pain in cancer patients.

The medicine, called Sativex, is one of the few pharmaceutical products that is created using real marijuana instead of synthetic compounds. It has already been approved for use in Canada, New Zealand and eight European countries, but would be illegal under U.S. federal drug laws without the approval of the Food and Drug Administration. If approved by the FDA Sativex would be the first drug based on marijuana to be prescribed legally in the U.S.

"There is a real disconnect between what the public seems to be demanding and what the states have pushed for and what the market is providing," said Aron Lichtman, a Virginia Commonwealth University pharmacology professor and president of the International Cannabinoid Research Society. "It seems to me a company with a great deal of vision would say, 'If there is this demand and need, we could develop a drug that will help people and we will make a lot of money.'"

Well, the pot-loving musician had to make arrangements with the court in Hudspeth County by Friday and RumorFix has learned exclusively that he's done just that and was fined a whopping $537. Polish Lawmaker Smokes Pot in Parliment

2012-01-20T09:31:00.000-08:00

You're kidding, this guy likes to smoke weed?

Janusz Palikot, a Polish lawmaker, officially became one of the coolest politicians in the world today by launching his drive to legalize marijuana by lighting up a fatty on the floor of parliment.

"This is the weed," he told Associated Press reporters in his office in the lower house of parliament, lighting up a large incense joint containing what he said was a legal quantity of marijuana.

Earlier on Friday, the philosophy graduate known for his flamboyant political stunts, caused a stir when he announced he would "light up" in parliament.

"I want to condemn the hypocrisy concerning marijuana consumption," Palikot told reporters. "Someone said they would smoke a joint in parliament and the reaction was tantamount to someone announcing a coup d'etat."

Poland voted in April to soften drug laws by giving prosecutors the power to dismiss small drug possession charges but some say that's not enough and are still calling for full legalization.

Palikot is known in Poland for being one of the more colourful and controversial politicians, famous for his publicity stunts. In April 2007 during a PO press conference, Palikot wore a t-shirt with "I am with the SLD" ("Jestem z SLD") on the front and "I am gay" ("Jestem gejem") on the back. He later stated that he wanted to highlight the role PO should play in contemporary politics - as defenders of minorities.

On 24 April 2007, he produced a gun and a dildo at a press conference about alleged rape by a few police officers from Lublin. Palikot presented the objects as modern "symbols of law and justice" in Poland and the Lublin's police.

On 23 July 2008 Palikot said in an interview "I consider the President to be an oaf" ("Uważam prezydenta za chama"), a potentially illegal act under Poland's anti-defamation laws. An investigation was launched, then dropped.

In October 2008 during a TV interview about the PZPN (Polish Football Association) Palikot produced a butchered pig's head, a Godfather-style sign of declaring war against what Palikot called "corrupt" PZPN officials.

In January 2009 Palikot caused further controversy when he wrote in his blog questioning whether the Polish President's brother, Jarosław Kaczyński, is gay: "I – unasked – declare unequivocally that I prefer women. And you, Mr Jarosław?" As a result Donald Tusk, the leader of Palikot's party, the Civic Platform, launched an investigation into his behaviour.

On 5 July 2010, one day after the second round of the 2010 presidential elections Palikot announced that the late presidentLech Kaczyński "has blood on his hands", blaming Kaczyński for the presidential airplane crash in Smolensk.

UPDATE: According to new reports, Palikot totally pussied out and just lit 'cannabis-scented incense' instead of smoking a joint. So now, instead of being the coolest politician ever he's just the lamest.

Company Uses iPad App to Educate Public on Medical Marijuana

2012-01-13T09:48:00.000-08:00

Screen Shot of Medicinal Genomic's new iPad app

Medical Marijuana research company Medicinal Genomics announced yesterday that they are releasing an iPad app that will educate users about medical marijuana by sharing their research on cannabis genome mapping. Here's the press release from Medicinal Genomics:

MARBLEHEAD, Mass. – January 12, 2012 – Medicinal Genomics, a pioneer in the genomics of medicinal plants, today announced the availability of Jane-Ome, an application designed for Apple’s iPad tablet, which offers a science-based dissection of medical marijuana.

Jane-Ome provides a gateway to the Cannabis genome project led by Medicinal Genomics, which in August 2011 sequenced the entire genome of Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica, assembling the largest known gene collection of this therapeutic plant.

“Medicinal Genomics is excited to roll out Jane-Ome to help make sense of the extensive datasets created by the Cannabis genome project,” said Kevin McKernan, founder and head of scientific operations of Medicinal Genomics. “The company’s hope is that Jane-Ome will help make that data more relevant to the public and serve as a conduit for future Cannabis genomes.”

Jane-Ome provides users with continuously updated, exclusive genomic information on various Cannabis genomes. In addition, the app provides users with access to several scientific news feeds that explore the science of medicinal Cannabis, making Jane-Ome the nerve center to explore the plant’s therapeutic potential.

In addition to its encyclopedic information about the bleeding-edge science of Cannabis, Jane-Ome users can compete in Cannabis related trivia to earn the right to guide future sequencing efforts. Users can also explore never before released blueprints for the equipment used to crack the human genome project, as well as access videos which explain the impact DNA sequencing and genomics have had on the world. Furthermore, Jane-Ome provides users with access to never before seen videos documenting the history of the human genome project, as well as commentary from members of that scientific consortium explaining how research has led them to aim their sights on unlocking the genome of Cannabis.

Feds Warn Colorado Dispensaries, Raid San Diego Dispensaries

2012-01-12T13:05:00.000-08:00

Federal Prosecutors announced today that they would begin a crackdown on the medical marijuana industry in Colorado and sent letters to 23 dispensaries that are located near schools and warned them that they would have to close within 45 days or face prosecution and seizure of their property.

"When the voters of Colorado passed the limited medical marijuana amendment in 2000, they could not have anticipated that their vote would be used to justify large marijuana stores located within blocks of our schools," Colorado U.S. Attorney John Walsh said in a statement announcing the crackdown.

It's also being reported that three medical marijuana dispensaries in the San Diego area were raided today, one on University Ave. and one in Pacific Beach.

Eyewitnesses say that patients at the collective were held and questioned for 40 minutes before being released and employees were interrogated for hours.
