Deaf girl, 10, 'trafficked to UK and kept as sex slave in cellar by elderly couple for almost 10 YEARS'

A deaf orphan girl was trafficked into Britain and forced to act as a virtual slave for a couple, a court was told.

Locked in a cellar each night, the ten-year-old was repeatedly raped and forced to carry out chores including cooking, cleaning, sewing and washing.

Ilyas Ashar, 83, and wife Tallat, 66, regularly beat the girl – dragging her by the hair if she was too slow and slapping her if the food was too hot or spicy.

The court was told the girl was repeatedly raped and sexually abused by Ashar and stabbed in the stomach.

Peter Cadwallader, prosecuting, said the girl had been brought from her home in Pakistan in 2000 after being told her parents had died.

Profoundly deaf and unable to speak, she went to live with the Ashars at their Victorian house in Eccles, near Manchester.

‘She was brought to this country and exploited,’ said Mr Cadwallader. ‘She was a victim of threats and violence throughout her life from being a little girl.

‘She was the subject of forced labour in that she was made to work for Ilyas and Tallat Ashar as a domestic servant and do other work for them.

‘She was made to cook, clean and do the washing and ironing. She was also made to clean houses and business premises for friends and relations of Mr and Mrs Ashar.
‘She also washed cars in the drive of the house – in essence she lived in a state of servitude.’
He told Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester: ‘She was physically abused, she was sexually abused, which included being raped by Ilyas Ashar. She was exploited economically, in that benefits were obtained in her name, the money being kept by the Ashars.
‘At night the door at the top of the stairs down to the cellar was locked and bolted so she could not get out during the night.

The alleged offences took place in Cromwell Road in Eccles, Greater Manchester

‘During the day, presumably when she displeased Tallat Ashar, she was pushed into the cellar, pushed down the stairs and the door locked. She would sit there for hours crying and locked in.’

Police called at the house in 2009 and found the girl – now aged around 19 – sleeping in the cellar.

Mr Cadwallader said the girl had remained a captive for almost ten years because she knew no one and had absolutely nowhere to go.

‘For her that’s all she had really known and she was forced to accept it as her way of life,’ he added. ‘She knew nothing else.’

The Ashars, who ran a market stall and sold cars, both deny two counts of human trafficking for exploitation and a single count of false imprisonment.

Ilyas also denies 12 counts of rape. Tallat denies one count of sexual assault and wounding and the pair, along with their daughter Faaiza, 24, deny charges of benefit fraud.

4x4 with Blades Allows Converts to Mow Down 'Enemies of Allah'

Two Muslim converts who were caught entering Britain with Al Qaeda magazines containing instructions on how to produce homemade bombs will be back on the streets within two months.

German-born Christian Emde, 28, and Robert Baum, 24, were sentenced today at the Old Bailey after being stopped by officers from the South East Counter Terrorism Unit at Dover.

Emde had four copies of Inspire featuring articles titled "Make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom" and "Destroying Buildings."

Another called "The ultimate mowing machine" suggested adding blades to a four-wheel drive pickup truck in order to drive through pedestrian areas and "mow down the enemies of Allah."

On Baum's computer detectives found a German translation of "39 ways to serve and participate in Jihad" which gave advice on how terrorists should keep fit.

Both men lived in the town of Solingen, east of Dusseldorf in Germany, before travelling by ferry to England last July with nearly 3,000 Euros in cash.

Baum, who was living on unemployment benefit, converted to Islam in 2003 while Emde, a former solider in the German army, became a Muslim in 2009 and worked as a warehouseman.

They told officers they had intended to travel to Egypt but changed their plans because it was too expensive. Instead they decided to take a bus from Brussels to London before getting another bus to Birmingham.

The Old Bailey heard the tickets to Birmingham had been bought by an associate of a man named Ahmed Diini, who had been excluded from the UK because of links to terrorism.

Emde claimed that he downloaded the Inspire magazine from the internet so he could "understand all aspects of the religion of Islam," the court heard.

Both men pleaded guilty to possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist. Judge Peter Rook QC sentenced Emde to 16 months imprisonment and Baum to just 12 months imprisonment.

Both men have already spent 193 days in custody and are to be deported after serving their sentences. Judge Rook told Baum that he had "effectively already served your sentence" while Emde will be released in about two months.

"Clearly the documents are of a kind likely to be useful to a person preparing an act of terrorism," said the judge.

"The material, particularly Inspire magazine, makes chilling reading. Only one sentence is appropriate and that is an immediate custodial sentence.

"All terrorist offences are serious. However this falls at the low end of seriousness. It is accepted there was no evidence to suggest that any of this material was going to be used for a terrorist purpose. It is accepted this material was widely available on the internet.

BRITISH MUSLIMS TRY TO BAN NEGATIVE REPORTING OF ISLAM
A Muslim activist group with links to the Muslim Brotherhood has asked the British government to restrict the way the British media reports about Muslims and Islam.

The effort to silence criticism of Islam comes amid an ongoing public inquiry into British press standards following a phone-hacking scandal involving the News of the World and other British newspapers.

The Leveson Inquiry, established by British Prime Minister David Cameron in July 2011, is currently considering how to increase government oversight of the British media.

But in a move that many worry will result in government regulation of the Internet, Lord Justice Leveson, a British judge who serves as Chairman of the inquiry, now says he wants to include Internet bloggers into any system of press regulation that he proposes.

Observers say the Leveson Inquiry's effort to regulate blogging, combined with the Muslim attempt to ban negative reporting about Islam, poses a clear threat to free speech in Britain.

Appearing before the Leveson Inquiry on January 24, Muslim activist Inayat Bunglawala said the amount of negative stories about Muslims in Britain is "demonizing" Islam and fuelling a "false narrative." He called on the government to do all it can to "ensure a fairer portrayal, a more balanced portrayal of the faith of Islam" in the British media.

In a separate written submission, Bunglawala complained about the "enormous impact of coverage that is proven to be inaccurate, inflammatory, prejudicial and detrimental" to the representation of Islam in Britain.

He continued: "British Muslims as a social group collectively suffer from poor media practices, whether this be the excessive attention granted to fringe Muslim groups, like Muslims Against Crusades, by the media or poor fact-checking prior to publication. Improving media practices and media responsibility on portraying and reporting fairly on Islam and British Muslims, without bias or discrimination or intent to incite anti-Muslim prejudice, is an urgent concern."

His solution: The British media needs a "more robust system of self-regulation…one which mandates the right…to challenge misrepresentations, inaccuracies and false reporting."

Lord Justice Leveson expressed sympathy for Bunglawala's plea and said that any government regulation of the British media would have to extend to the Internet and include blogs, so as to ensure a "level playing field" between print and online media.

Lord Hunt, the chairman of the Press Complaints Commission, a self-regulatory body which deals with complaints about the editorial content of newspapers and magazines, recently said he is looking into the idea of regulating bloggers and online publications. According to him, "at the moment, it [the Internet] is like the Wild West out there. We need to appoint a sheriff."

Lord Hunt would invite bloggers on current affairs to voluntarily agree to regulation. They would receive a seal-of-approval rating that they would lose if complaints against them were repeatedly upheld.

This plan would please Muslim activists such as Bunglawala, who say they are offended by Islamophobia but have no problems purveying anti-Semitic rhetoric about Jews, Zionists, Jewish power and the "Tribe of Judah."

Bunglawala, who says he represents mainstream moderate Muslim opinion, is a director of the Muslim Council of Britain, a self-appointed umbrella group that is closely linked to the Muslim Brotherhood. He strongly objects to the use of the phrase "Islamic terrorism" and has described Osama bin Laden as a "freedom fighter for hundreds of Muslims in Britain."

Bunglawala said the blind Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman, who bombed the World Trade Center in 1993, was "courageous" and living out his "calling on Muslims to fulfill their duty to Allah and to fight against oppression and oppressors everywhere."

In 2010, Bunglawala published an article in the Guardian newspaper entitled, "If We Care about Free Speech, Let these Muslim Speakers In," in which he urged the British government to "demonstrate its commitment to liberal values" by allowing two Muslim "hate preachers" to enter the United Kingdom.

The late Christopher Hitchens described Bunglawala this way: "A preposterous and sinister individual named Inayat Bunglawala, assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain and a man with a public record of support for Osama bin Laden, was made a convener of Blair's task force on extremism despite his stated belief that the BBC and the rest of the media are 'Zionist controlled.'"

As for the BBC, it already self-regulates when it comes to reporting on Islam. Consider a recent 700-word article on the proliferation of honor-based violence in Britain, in which the BBC failed to mention the words "Muslim," "Islamic" or "Islam" even once.

A poll of Muslims in Britain found little support for freedom of speech. Nearly 80% of Muslims in Britain said that the publishers of the Danish cartoons depicting the Muslim Mohammed should be prosecuted; 68% said that those who insult Islam should be prosecuted; and 62% of Muslims in Britain disagree that freedom of speech should be allowed if it insults and offends religious groups.

Meanwhile, the European Union has offered to host the next meeting of the so-called Istanbul Process, an aggressive effort by Muslim countries to make it an international crime to criticize Islam.

The Istanbul Process -- its explicit aim is to enshrine in international law a global ban on all critical scrutiny of Islam and/or Islamic Sharia law -- is being spearheaded by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a bloc of 57 Muslim countries.

Based in Saudi Arabia, the OIC has long pressed the European Union and the United States to impose limits on free speech and expression about Islam.

But the OIC has now redoubled its efforts and is engaged in a determined diplomatic offensive to persuade Western democracies to implement United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) Resolution 16/18, which calls on all countries to combat "intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization of … religion and belief." Resolution 16/18, which was adopted at HRC headquarters in Geneva in March 2011, and was recently backed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the most recent Istanbul Process Conference in Washington in December, is widely viewed as a significant step forward in OIC efforts to advance the international legal concept of defaming Islam.

An al Qaeda-inspired extremist called on British Muslims to claim benefits to raise funds for a terrorist training camp, a court has heard.

Usman Khan, 20, was secretly recorded talking about plans to recruit UK radicals to attend the camp in Kashmir, London's Woolwich Crown Court was told.

He said there were only three possible outcomes for him and his fellow jihadists: victory, martyrdom or prison.

Khan's home in Persia Walk, Stoke-on-Trent, was bugged as he discussed plans for the firearms training camp, which was to be disguised as a legitimate "madrassa", an Islamic religious school, the court heard.

Discussing terrorist fundraising, he said that Muslims in Britain could earn in a day what people in Kashmir, a disputed region divided between Pakistan and India, are paid in a month.

He went on: "On jobseeker's allowance we can earn that, never mind working for that."

During the late-night meeting on December 4, 2010, Khan contrasted the action he was planning in support of jihad with the passive approach of Muslims like radical cleric Anjem Choudary.

"Brothers like Anjem, they ain't going nowhere," he said.

Khan said he could only see three results: "There's victory, what we hope for, there's shahada (death as a martyr), or there's prison."

Prosecutor Andrew Edis QC, opening the case for the Crown on day two of a sentencing hearing, said: "Mr Khan, the prosecution say, reveals his intention to supply money and people to something which he describes in this as an existing set-up.

"He has recently returned from Pakistan, and the inference is he's been there, and is going back there within a few weeks.

"That set-up from the outside will appear like a normal madrassa, but the inference is clear from that conversation that that's indeed the place where firearms training will be available."

He added: "It is also quite clear that the hope is that there will be a significant number of UK citizens who will attend there."

Mr Edis said those who underwent training at the camp in Kashmir could have returned home and carried out attacks in Britain.

"When running a training camp of this kind, the prosecution say, they create a risk that they themselves or other graduates of it will commit acts of terrorism wherever they find themselves to be, using the skills they have acquired," he told the court.

Mr Khan, Mohammed Shahjahan 27, and Nazam Hussain, 26, all from Stoke-on-Trent, last week admitted engaging in the preparation of terrorism.

Mohammed Chowdhury, 21, and Shah Rahman, 28, both from east London, and brothers Gurukanth Desai, 30, and Abdul Miah, 25, from Cardiff, pleaded guilty to preparing for acts of terrorism by planning to plant a bomb in the toilets of the London Stock Exchange.

Omar Latif, 28, also from Cardiff, admitted attending meetings with the intention of assisting others to prepare or commit acts of terrorism, and Mohibur Rahman, 27, from Stoke-on-Trent, admitted possessing copies of al Qaida magazine 'Inspire' for terrorist purposes.

Federal Court avoids deciding on right to religion of choice

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 2 — The country’s top court today passed on a chance to answer one of the most fundamental constitutional questions plaguing this multiracial and multireligious nation of 28 million people — the right of a person to profess his faith of choice.

An Indian Malaysian father of three, Zaina Abdin Halim @ S. Maniam, who has been declared a Muslim on his identity card, has been seeking to have the National Registration Department (NRD) strike it off since 2002.

Fahri Azzat , lawyer for the litigant, told The Malaysian Insider today: “If a person’s mother and father are Muslims, that provision under section 2 of the Selangor State Enactment restraints the person from professing a faith of choice.”

Born of an ethnic Indian father and a Malay Muslim mother, the Zaina Abdin has said in court documents that he was raised to be a Hindu and has brought up his three children in the religion their whole lives.

In a sworn statement, he has put his real name down as Balachandran son of S. Maniam, taking the cue from his father’s name before the latter embraced Islam to marry.

The government agency, however, has refused to allow Zaina Abdin, also known as Balachandran, to change his religious status, based on a provision of the Selangor State Enactment concerning Islamic affairs.

Under section 2 of the state Islamic law, children of Muslim parents are automatically deemed to be Muslim as well.

As such, Zaina Abdin aka Balachandran would have to apply to the Syariah Court to renounce he is Muslim and become an apostate. He maintains he is not an apostate.

The upset litigant charges that section 2 is against the basic principles of the Federal Constitution, the country’s highest law, specifically Article 1(1), which states: “Every person has the right to profess and practise his religion and subject to Clause (4), to propagate it.”

Clause 4 states that state law and in the cases of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, federal law, may control or restrict the propagation of any religious doctrine or belief among persons professing the religion of Islam.

But a five-man panel of judges in the Federal Court unanimously decided that it was not the proper platform to determine a person’s religious position and returned the case to the High Court for a hearing.

“We are unanimous that this case is not a suitable case to be referred to us under section 84 of the Courts of Judicature Act.

“The facts [of the case] are in dispute,” said Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Raus Sharif, who chaired the Bench.

The crucial fact of the case rests on whether Zaina Abdin aka Balachandran is Muslim or Hindu, as he claims.

Both the man’s lawyers and government lawyers have been at odds on this one basic fact, agreeing only that by operation of the law Zaina Abdin aka Balachandran is Muslim, which is the latter’s dispute.

The Federal Court directed the case be heard on its merits in the High Court.

K. Shanmuga, another lawyer for Zaina Abdi aka Balachandran, told reporters his client was disappointed by the Federal Court decision after a 10-year wait which would have granted him finality in the matter.

The lawyer added that the three children, who were minors when the case was first filed in 2002, were now adults of marriageable age.

He said the Federal Court decision would also affect the trio, who like their father, had sued the federal government, the Selangor government and the Selangor Islamic Council, to seek the same basic rights.

“Now, we can only go back to the High Court and ask for an early hearing date,” Shanmuga said.

Whether it be dancing boys in Afgahnistan or the marriage of elderly men to children (here, here and here) and their use as sexual play things.

This is based on the example (the PERFECT and ETERNAL) of Allah's Messenger, Muhammad, who enjoyed sex with the little Aisha (using her thighs from the age of 6 to full blown intercourse from the age of 9).

This according to Muslims is the most beautiful love story of all time, and to be emulated by all Muslims.

To critizize the use of children as sexual play things by Muslim men is to spit in the face of Allah, Islam and Muhammad. Thus, no question of this most HOLY of Islamic practices will be tolerated.

The use of Children, in the Manner of the Messenger is a RIGHT as bequeathed by Allah and is VALID for all time!

Calls to Behead Indonesian Atheist Alexander Aan

Jakarta. A defiant declaration of atheism by an Indonesian civil servant has inflamed passions in the world’s most populous Muslim nation, pitting non-believers and believers against each other.

The trouble began when civil servant Alexander Aan posted a message on the Facebook page of Atheist Minang, a group of Indonesians with godless beliefs. It read: “God doesn’t exist.”

The post so enraged residents in Aan’s hometown of Pulau Punjung in West Sumatra province that an angry mob of dozens stormed his office and beat up the 30-year-old.

To add insult to injury, police then arrested him and now want to press blasphemy charges that could see him locked up for five years.

Muslim extremists have called for Aan to be beheaded but fellow atheists have rallied round, and urged him to stand by his convictions despite the pressure.

“Dear Alex, stick to your beliefs. This country has no right to restrict your faith,” Fahd Singa Diwirja wrote on the same Facebook page, where Aan is one of the administrators.

“You’re facing narrow-minded people, but this is the true Indonesia, a fertile ground for the spread of fundamentalism,” Diwirja added, advising Aan to escape persecution by seeking asylum in a European country.

Aan has also gained the support of the US-based International Atheist Alliance.

The group, together with Atheist Minang, has written to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, calling on him to ensure that the blasphemy allegations are dropped.

“This is a law that has been used to promote mob violence and intimidation against those who do not agree with ... vigilante groups,” said the letter, copies of which were also sent to the United Nations and Human Rights Watch.

Aan’s proclamation has been removed from the page, but the Facebook group has doubled to 2,000 since the controversy made local news reports.

Most of the postings, however, are diatribes against Aan and his supporters.

“These atheists should be beheaded, that’s what they deserve,” wrote a man who identified himself as Putra Tama, a Muslim from neighboring Jambi province.

Other posts challenged atheists from the group to dare show themselves, instead of hiding behind the anonymity of social media.

“If you think your arguments are true, why don’t you just have a face-to-face meeting with us, people who still believe in God? You’re just a group of cowards,” taunted a post by another Muslim.

Although Indonesia’s constitution guarantees freedom of religion, it only recognizes six faiths: Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Catholicism, Protestantism and Confucianism.

Local police chief Chairul Aziz said this week that Aan, who had written on his Facebook page that he was brought up as a Muslim, had expressed his willingness to revert to Islam but that it would not be enough to escape punishment.

“He expressed his intention to convert to Islam but he has not performed an Islamic declaration of faith. Even if he does so, he still can’t escape from justice due to his blaphemous act,” Aziz said.

The Islamic Society Forum (FUI), an umbrella group for several hard-line groups, said that a five-year jail term for Aan would not suffice.

“He deserves the death penalty, even if he decides to repent. What he has done cannot be tolerated,” said Muhammad al-Khaththath, FUI’s secretary-general.

“It is important to prevent this group from spreading atheism in this country,” he added.

Indonesia has seen a spate of attacks on minority religious groups in recent years and the country’s judiciary is notoriously unsympathetic towards their plight.

THREE terrorists from Stoke-on-Trent plotted al-Qaida-inspired bomb attacks on pubs and clubs in the Potteries.

Usman Khan, Mohammed Shahjahan and Nazam Hussain, wanted to bring terror to their home city by placing homemade timebombs in pub toilets.

They also planned to send at least one of their number to terror training camps in Pakistan.

A fourth man from Stoke-on-Trent, Mohibur Rahman, was found in possession of a terrorist magazine containing a bomb recipe.

The four were part of a wider terror network, which included four others who were planning to bomb the London Stock Exchange.

Nine men involved in the network were arrested in police raids in December 2010.

They are now awaiting sentence after entering last-minute guilty pleas to various terror charges at Woolwich Crown Court, just as a five-month trial was about to start.

Khan, aged 20, of Persia Walk, Tunstall; Shahjahan, aged 27, of Burmarsh Walk, Burslem, and Hussain, aged 26, of Grove Street, Cobridge, admitted being engaged in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism between November 1 and December 20, 2010.

The three travelled to meetings with their fellow terrorists in South Wales, raised funds for terrorist training and planned to undergo further terror training in the Kashmir region of Pakistan.

Prosecutor Andrew Edis said: "They were involved in what are described as operational meetings, which were meetings of this group of nine people, which were designed to develop plans for the commission of acts of terrorism."

Rahman, aged 27, of North Road, Cobridge, admitted possessing an article for a terrorist purpose, namely electronic copies of a terrorist magazine produced by al-Qaida. It contained instructions on how to make bombs out of common household items.

While the Stoke-on-Trent defendants were recorded talking about attacking pubs in the city, they had not selected specific targets by the time of their arrest. Nor had they constructed the bombs.

Mohammed Chowdhury, aged 21, and Shah Rahman, aged 29, both from London, and Abdul Miah, aged 25, and Gurukanth Desai, aged 29, both from Cardiff, admitted preparing for an act of terrorism, specifically the Stock Exchange attack.

Omar Latif, aged 27, from Cardiff, admitted preparing for an act of terrorism by attending meetings.

Sentencing for all nine defendants was adjourned until next Monday.

Domestic violence: Injured for ‘resisting attempt to sell daughter in marriage’

A woman, and her father, were hospitalised on Wednesday with injuries they had suffered in a knife and axe attack allegedly by her husband and his accomplices.

Doctors at Shaikh Zayed Hospital told The Express Tribune that Hanifa Bibi had 13 wounds on her body and described her condition as ‘critical’. They said Hanifa’s father Mithay Khan had seven wounds.

They said full recovery from the injuries could take two to three months. However, they added, they could be discharged from the hospital in about four to five weeks.

Hanifa Mai and Mithay Khan were assaulted allegedly by her husband Basheer, a resident of Mohammadpur Diwan, on resisting his attempt allegedly to sell one of his daughters, Farzana, in marriage.

Farzna told The Express Tribune that Basheer and his brothers had wanted to sell her in marriage. “They hadn’t told me or my mother any details about the man,” she said, “She refused to let them marry me off against my will”. Basheer started beating Hanifa Bibi, and was later joined by his brothers, following an argument over the issue on Wednesday, she added.

Saddar police ASI Ghulam Yaseen said they had registered a case against Basheer, and his three brothers, Munir, Rafiq and Latif under section 324/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He said raiding teams had been formed to arrest the suspects.

Speaking to The Express Tribune at the hospital, Mithay Khan said he was attacked by Basheer when he tried to stop him from beating Hanifa at their house on Wednesday. He said the men were torturing Hanifa with a knife when he reached the scene. Mithay Khan said he had rushed to the scene after one of his grand childrens, Iqbal, came to his house and informed him about the matter. “Iqbal told me Basheer and his brothers were beating her and asked me to rescue her,” he said. Mithay Khan said the suspects fled the scene by jumping over the back wall on hearing neighbours gather in front of the house.

Akram, one of the neighbors who took Hanifa Bibi and Mithay Khan to hospital, said the suspects had fled by the time he and others broke into the house.

Saeeda Bibi, another neighbour, said Hanifa had fainted by the time they rescued her.

Terrorists admit plot to bomb London Stock Exchange and US Embassy

Two of the men conducted a surveillance trip around central London and also talked about launching a Mumbai-style attack on Parliament.

A “target list” was found at the home of the ring-leader which listed the names and addresses of Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, as well as two Rabbis and the American Embassy. It had on it the letters ‘LXC’ for London Stock Exchange.

Torn pieces of paper showed a sketch of what is believed to be a car bomb.

Three other men met with the plotters and planned to travel abroad to get more training before returning to launch further attacks. Another two men pleaded guilty to associated charges.

The men, from London, Stoke and Cardiff, were inspired by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsular (AQAP) and used their English-language magazine Inspire as a guide.

In Stoke the gang talked about attacking local pubs and clubs but decided to travel abroad to get more training.

In East London, Mohammed Chowdhury, 21, the ring leader, and Shah Rahman, 29, were under surveillance as they toured central London sites for six hours between 3.30pm and 9.30pm on November 28 2010.

They got off a bus in Trafalgar Square and walked along Whitehall towards Westminster. They were observed looking at Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, Blackfriars Bridge and the Church of Scientology on Queen Victoria Street.

After visiting a McDonalds restaurant on Cannon Street in the City of London, the two men boarded a bus back towards East London.

In the bedroom at Chowdhury’s flat in the Isle of Dogs, police found a handwritten target list on a folded piece of A4 paper on the computer desk.

The Stoke group have their origins in Pakistan, while the London and Cardiff groups were originally from Bangladesh.

The three groups were inspired by Anwar al-Awlaki, one of the leaders of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsular, who died in a drone attack last year.

The defendants made contact with each other through dawah – proselytising - or by Paltalk or other internet messaging.

Meetings took place in November and December 2010 at which the defendants planned to use explosive devices to attack significant locations in London and around the country.

Their plans could be carried out without much preparation and were very difficult to intercept, sources said.

The London and Cardiff groups were keen to act quickly, at first talking about sending mail bombs through the Royal Mail and then deciding on a plan to set off bombs in the toilets of the stock exchange.

The Stoke group talked about persuading others to take bombs into pubs in their area so that they would explode.

Abdul Miah, 25, said to be at the centre of the Cardiff gang, and his brother Omar Latif, 28, pleaded guilty to taking part in the Stock Exchange plot. Gurukanth Desai, 30, pleaded guilty to attending meetings.

Mohibur Rahman, 27, from Stoke pleaded guilty to possession of a document containing information useful to a person preparing an act of terrorism.

The charges relate to two editions of al-Qaeda’s English language Inspire magazine.

Usman Khan, 20, Mohammed Shahjahan, 27, and Nazam Hussain, 26, all from Stoke pleaded guilty to preparing acts of terrorism.

At Khan’s home in Persia Walk, Stoke, police officers recovered a folded A4 sheet of paper which bore notes of the structure, roles and responsibilities of individuals in a terrorist cell.

It included the headings ‘structure’, ‘responsibilities’, ‘communication’ and ‘local’ and appeared to be written by Shahjahan.

Bomb attack rocks Malmö police station

A police station in central Malmö was hit by a powerful explosion early Wednesday morning, leaving a hole in the building.
“Several people reacted to the powerful explosion and we received a number of calls,” Skåne police duty officer Marie Keimar told the TT news agency.

Two men dressed in dark clothing were seen placing what is believed to be a bomb outside the building before fleeing the scene.

The blast, which took place around 2.30am, left a hole in the police station's brick wall and caused extensive damage to the offices inside.

Police say there are a number of witnesses to the incident, but Keimar was unable to elaborate on what witnesses may have said about what they saw.

However, eye witness Tomas Holmqvist told Svergies Television (SVT) that he had seen two men dressed in black place the charge outside the station.

The two men then fled the scene on a black scooter.

The police station singled out in the attack is located on Eriksfältsgatan in central Malmö.

According to police, there were people present in the station shortly before the explosion occurred.

“It was lucky there wasn't anyone in there, but it was still a serious attack against us,” said Keimar.

“It's unclear how seriously the building was damaged or if there is any risk that it might collapse.”

By 4am, investigators had begun examining the scene in order to assess the damage.

The police station is located in Malmö's Fosie neighbourhood, the same area where a man was fatally shot just hours before.

Shortly before 7pm, police found a 48-year-old father of four shot in a car. He was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries.

Afghan tells police he was tempted by the woman’s dress

A big Afghan man stalking a British woman doing night exercise in the open air waited for her to reach a deserted area behind a police academy, grabbed her, covered her mouth with his hand and tried to rape her.

The woman, a visitor to Dubai, struggled hard but found that the man was too strong. She tried to scream but could not and the man begged her to stop struggling. Realising her attempts were futile, she decided to trick him.

He had already stripped her shoes and pants off in Sufouh area just behind the police academy when she pretended that she wanted to have sex with him. Once he eased his grip on her, she pushed him and fled.

After seeing passersby and telling them about the incident, they phoned the police. Two weeks later, the man was in the police grip.

“The man said he was seduced by the way the woman was dressed,” Dubai police commander Lt General Dahi Khalfan Tamim said.

“Despite the scant information about that man, police units managed to identify him, locate his whereabouts and get him.”

According to Brigadier Khalil Al Mansoori, Director of the Dubai Criminal Investigation Department, the Afghan works at a private firm and is apparently suffering from psychological problems.

“Perhaps this was the reason that made him try to rape the woman… he confessed that he was tempted by her sports wear,” he said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Emarat Alyoum.

Ironically titled "Be Yourself," the video itself is unfortunately not subtitled, but appears to show a long-haired, effeminate-acting gay man being given a "straight" makeover by two men in traditional Emirati garb. The two men trim the gay man's fingernails, cut his hair and scrub his face with soap.

In the final scene, the men re-group, with the now "butch"-looking man less distinguishable among the crowd. As Pink News notes, his friends seem happy and proud of what they did and finish by thanking Allah, who helped bring about the "change."

The publication also spoke with several UAE-based LGBT rights advocates, who universally slammed the video's message. "It angers me no end, but it also saddens me," Abdullah, the 24-year-old founder of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Rights UAE, noted. "This video would have been devastating if my 16-year-old self had watched it...I can still hear echoes in my mind of mom yelling at me no to flail my hand too much when I speak, which only lead to me being robotic and stiff, feeling I must keep both hands down when I speak, something that took a long time to get over."

Women are partly to blame for Turkey’s ever-rising number of women’s murders, a retired police chief has said in an article for the January edition of the Contemporary Police Journal magazine.

“Naturally our women are in a position of victimhood against men due to the [discrepancy between their levels of] physical strength. It is not possible to say the same, however, with respect to [women’s use of] language and gestures. The blame for the murders cannot be squarely placed on men’s shoulders,” retired Police Chief Dr. Hasan Yağar said in his article, according to daily Milliyet.

Yağar further said nearly all such incidents pertaining to the murder of women take place in dense urban areas rather than in villages or hamlets in distant corners of Anatolia. The presence of attitudes that are not in line with Turkey’s traditions, customs and religious convictions in major cities are causing new migrants trying to adapt to their new circumstances to falter and fall into confusion, he said.

“It is a grave mistake to link the problem merely to the sadism of men. It is entirely impossible to ignore or deny that the matter is related to our national traditions and customs, and even to our social mysticism, or in other words, our religious perspective,” he said.

Will the Jerusalem Mufti Say Why Muslims don’t eat Ham?

The Mufti is inadvertently doing us a service, by revealing the violent directives given to Muslims in the Koran and the Hadith for how to deal with Jews and all non-Muslims. Let him say the real reason, written below, for Muslims avoiding pork.

The Mufti of Jerusalem, Mohammed Hussein, the top Islamic official in Israel, stirred up a storm of protest with a speech he made recently in which he appeared to be calling for the murder of Jews and the comparing of Jews to pigs and apes.

Israel’s President Shimon Peres complained that the Jerusalem Mufti’s recent “Kill the Jews” statements “endanger the lives” of Jews and that action must be taken to prevent similar remarks, which he said can lead to a deterioration of relations between Jews and Arabs. He met with Justice Minister Yaakov Ne’eman, who promised an investigation of the Mufti’s sermon.

The actual statement was the following: “The hour of judgment will not come until you fight the Jews. The Jew will hide behind the stone and behind the tree. The stone and the tree will cry, 'Oh Muslim, Oh Servant of God, this is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.’”

This is a famous and highly respected quote from the Hadith, which is the oral tradition of Islam, taken from the teachings of Muhammad, the founder of Islam. Muhammad is considered by Muslims around the world to be “The Sunna”, or the model to be followed by all believing Muslims.

In this writer’s opinion, President Peres and others who speak of investigating the Mufti for incitement for reading a portion of Muslim doctrine are barking up the wrong tree. The Mufti is simply quoting from a revered text and he is inadvertently doing us a service, by revealing the violent directives given to Muslims in the Koran and the Hadith for how to deal with Jews and all non-Muslims.

These passages are not disavowed, not by the muftis, not the imams, and not by other practitioners of the so-called “religion of peace” and if we just glance at our neighbors here in the Middle East, we see that these verses are alive and well and ever-present in the doctrines of the Muslim Brotherhood, including its Hamas brethren, the Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, and yes, the Fatah terrorist organization, as well.

The Mufti was given a rousing introduction at that rally with the words, "Our war with the descendants of the apes and pigs is a war of religion and faith. Long live Fatah!"

This reminds me of a scholarly debate that was held at Al -Ahzar University in Egypt not so long ago, debating the highly respected verse in the Koran, which refers to the Jews and Christians as pigs and monkeys.

As everyone knows, Jews don’t eat pork because of a clear biblical prohibition. But why don’t Muslims? The debate at the university was over the question of whether the Jews of today are direct descendents of the Jews who were turned into pigs by Allah, or if we are imposters. As a result of that debate, Sheikh Ahmed Ali Othman, the supervisor of the Da’awa (Islamic Indoctrination) of the Egyptian Wakf, issued a fatwa (religious ruling) stating that the Jews indeed have their

The entire commotion over the Jerusalem Mufti’s statements should be a lesson for the nation of Israel. We are negotiating with a people whose very doctrine calls for our destruction and their recent electoral decisions are the manifestation of those beliefs. Their hatred is rooted in an evil ideology and is engrained deep in their religious beliefs and is expressed in their political actions.

The elections of Hamas in the Palestinian Authority, the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafists in Egypt, and the Huzbullah in Lebanon should serve as a glaring red warning light that will cause us to put an immediate halt to all “peace” discussions with our Islamic neighbors. We need to start preparing for war, not peace.

Foreign woman stripped of clothes, assaulted, in Egypt’s Tahrir Square

CAIRO: A foreign woman was stripped and sexually assaulted on Wednesday evening in Egypt’s iconic Tahrir Square, one eyewitness said on Twitter and another confirmed in an email to Bikyamasr.com.

The woman, who’s identity has not been revealed, was taken away in an ambulance after being assaulted for 10 minutes. Her husband reportedly was unable to intervene and witnessed the incident.

“I saw the woman and then dozens of men surrounded her and started grabbing her, when she screamed for help some people came, but they were hit in the face,” wrote one witness.

What happened next was “appalling,” said the trusted witness, who asked for anonymity. “The men just started tearing at her clothes and grabbing her body all over. When she fought back, they pushed her. It was chaos.”

There were unconfirmed reports that the men “violated” her with their hands.

The nationality of the woman is unknown at the current time.

Throughout the day, sexual harassment towards women has been increasing and more and more reports of women being grabbed and groped began being reported.

Activists called the attacks on women completely “unacceptable” and must be exposed no matter what. They demanded an end to all violence toward women.

“What happened in Tahrir today has no justification and must be fully exposed even if it taints Tahrir!” wrote EgyptSecularist on Twitter.

The incident brings memories of reporter Lara Logan, who was sexually assaulted the night former President Hosni Mubarak gave up power.

A mob of men ripped the 40-year-old correspondent away from her crew and bodyguard, tearing at her clothes and beating her in broad daylight.

“People don’t really know that much about [post-traumatic stress disorder],” she told the New York Daily News in her latest interview on the incident. ”There’s something called latent PTSD. It manifests itself in different ways. I want to be free of it, but I’m not.”

In an interview with “60 minutes” in April, Logan spoke publicly about the incident for the first time. She confided that the attack lasted for about 25 minutes, as 200 to 300 men assaulted her. She feared for her life and imagined that she would not survive, she explained.

Logan was finally pulled to safety by an Egyptian woman and a soldier who witnessed the attack.

She and her team were brought back to their hotel, where she received an examination and medical treatment. She returned to the United States the following morning where she entered hospital for four days.

Logan confided in her latest interview that nightmares about the incident come at unexpected times, like when she is tucking her infant daughter into bed.

Instances of sexual assaults on female journalists covering the events in Tahrir Square have continued in the year since Mubarak’s ouster.

According to studies conducted by the Egyptian Center for Women’s Right (ECWR) in 2008, 98 percent of foreign women and 83 percent of Egyptian women surveyed had experienced sexual harassment in Egypt.

Meanwhile, 62 percent of Egyptian men confessed to harassing women and 53 percent of Egyptian men faulted women for “bringing it on.”

When award-winning Egyptian-American columnist Mona el-Tahawy detailed a horrific sexual assault by Egypt police on her personal Twitter account after she was detained for nearly 12 hours in Cairo on November 24, the debate about sexual violence in the square became reignited.

“Besides beating me, the dogs of CSF subjected me to the worst sexual assault ever,” she said on Twitter.

“5 or 6 surrounded me, groped and prodded my breasts, grabbed my genital area and I lost count how many hands tried to get into my trousers,” she wrote.

One day after, Caroline Sinz, a French reporter for public TV station France 3, became the third women sexually assaulted – and reported – while reporting from Tahrir.

As more women like Logan, el-Tahawy and Sinz bravely come forward to speak about these instances of abuse, public awareness about the issues facing women in Egypt has improved and helped to foster a healthy dialogue about addressing this disturbing social pandemic.

(NewsCore) - It is "forbidden" to pray for Steve Jobs' soul, a prominent Saudi cleric has decreed.

Sa'd Bin Al-Shathari, a Saudi authority on Islam, said God-fearing Muslims better keep the late Apple founder out of their prayers because he died an "infidel."

"To pray for Allah to have mercy upon him or place him in Paradise -- that is forbidden," he told Kuwait's Al-Resala TV, according to a translation by the Middle East Media Research Institute.

Al-Shathari, however, said it was OK to feel saddened by Jobs' death.

He was responding to a raging Twitter and Facebook debate on whether Muslims can feel sad "over the death of an infidel" and ask "for Allah's mercy for an infidel" sparked by Jobs' death.

Jobs, a Zen Buddhist, died Oct. 5 at age 56.

Honour killing: Suspect surrenders, ‘confident of acquittal’

MUZAFFARGARH:

Allah Bachaya has surrendered himself to Rohilanwali police after killing his sister in the name of honour but he is confident that he will be released in a matter of days.

Bachaya gave his arrest on Saturday after killing Alina* in an axe attack for alleged loose morals.

He told The Express Tribune that he was certain his brother-in-law would withdraw the case as it was a matter of family’s honour. “I have killed her because she brought disgrace to the family’s name,” Bachaya said.

“She had become a nuisance. I feel no remorse over my actions. I am backed by the family. They were in favour of my decision to kill her,” he said.

Bachaya said Alina* had eloped more than once with [different] men from the neighbourhood. On Saturday, he said, she had returned home after spending three days with a man.

Alina*, 25, was married to Muhammad Akhtar. The couple had three children.

Akhtar, who is the complainant in the FIR against Bachaya, told The Tribune that while he had filed a complaint in the matter he might withdraw it in a few days.

“I believe he (Bachaya) has not done wrong. Nothing is above honour,” he said. “I would have also taken similar action had my sister left her husband and eloped with someone else,” he said, “I filed the report so that the police are informed of the matter. I don’t plan on prosecuting him (Bachaya),” he said. He said he would soon inform the police in writing that he had pardoned the suspect.

“When she returned home on Saturday, I sat down with her and tried to make her realise the consequences of her actions but she kept straying from the topic,” he said.

Later, he said, Bachaya came over to his house on finding out that Alina* had returned. Following an argument, he said, Bachaya attacked Alina* with an axe, chopping both her legs. She died while she was being taken to hospital.

Rohilanwali SHO Waseem Leghari said the police had registered a case on the complaint of the deceased’s husband.

He said an autopsy had already been carried out and the body handed over to the family. He said the police would proceed in the matter in accordance with the law.

Sunny Islam, 23, who comes from a strict Muslim family, dragged his terrified victims - including a 15-year-old - from the street at knifepoint, bound and assaulted them during a two-month reign of terror.

Police fear that Islam may have attacked many more.

Three of the assaults took place close to his home in Barking, east London, while a fourth occurred in nearby Forest Gate.

Judge Patricia Lees, sentencing him to a minimum of 11 years, said: 'The harm you have done to your victims is incalculable.

'The nature and extent of these offences drives me to the conclusion that you represent an extreme and continuing danger to women, particularly those out at night.'

He was traced through the number plate of his girlfriend's car after he kidnapped and raped the 15-year-old in September 2010.

He grabbed her from behind as she walked home with a friend and bundled her into the car at knifepoint before driving to a secluded spot where he raped her twice despite her claiming she was only 11 years old.

Female circumcision fear as fundamentalists roll back women's rights

Maldives women face more repression under a rising tide of religious fundamentalism, reports Ben Doherty from Male.

When the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, visited the Maldives late last year, she urged that the practice of flogging women for having sex outside marriage - while very rarely punishing men for the same - should be abolished.

''This practice constitutes one of the most inhumane and degrading forms of violence against women,'' she told local reporters then.

The response was as fierce as it was unexpected. The next day protesters rallied outside the UN building, carrying placards that read ''Ban UN'' and ''Islam is not a toy'' and threatened to ''Flog Pillay''. A website later promised to ''slaughter anyone against Islam''.

In an interview with the Herald, the Maldivian President, Mohamed Nasheed, conceded an emergent religious fundamentalism had changed the way women were viewed, and treated, in his country.

He said he was distressed by religious groups who campaigned for girls to be circumcised or to be kept home from school.

''We were a matriarchal society. Our inheritance, also, in the past was from women. But, with a new kind of radical Islam, the perceptions some of them have on women are not familiar to many Maldivians,'' Mr Nasheed said.

Anecdotal reports suggest female circumcision is undergoing a resurgence in the Maldives, particularly on the outer islands, where local imams hold significant influence.

Shadiya Ibrahim, member of the newly formed Gender Advocacy Working Group and a long-time campaigner for women's rights, said Maldivian society was growing more oppressive towards women.

''Being a woman is harder now. The religious Wahhabist scholars preach more forcefully than anyone else can. They have this backing of religion as a tool.

''No one can make the argument to have a more liberal, a more positive attitude towards women. Day by day, it is becoming harder for women to live in this country,'' she said.

Ms Ibrahim said women were excluded from positions of power, from taking jobs and even from education, particularly beyond primary level.

The practice of flogging women for extramarital sex was common across the Maldives, she said.

''It happens everywhere. Normally, this punishment is given when you give birth, which is why it is almost always women. If you have 140-odd women being flogged, you have only two or three men.'' The flogging is public and done with a paddle or a cane, and is intended more to humiliate than to cause serious injury.

Ms Ibrahim said flogging was accepted by many Maldivians, and there were other, more serious issues emerging, including a growing number of instances of sexual violence.

''This week, there have been two cases of a gang rape of [a] minor, one 16-year-old, one 12-year-old and, very often, while there is an effort to catch the perpetrators, eventually, the media will turn it into 'the girl was wearing this', 'the girl had gone there','' he said.

Domestic violence is common. A nationwide survey done in 2007 found one in three Maldivian women had been abused, sexually or physically.

Aneesa Ahmed, president of advocacy organisation Hope for Women, said a domestic violence bill before the Maldivian parliament would raise awareness of an issue rarely discussed in the Maldives. But the legislation has been stuck in parliament more than 14 months. Only five of the Maldives' 77 parliamentarians are women.

Ms Ahmed said Maldivian women's control over their lives was being eroded. ''Men in the Maldives feel that the women's role is reproductive and in the home. That's what women should do and that's all we should do.''

Brothers, this is about the honor of the people.

I am talking to the Jews in the name of 85 million Egyptians, who hate them from the bottom of their hearts. [...]

"I saw footage of a young Egyptian fighting a lion. He did this for the sake of the thrill. He went into the lion's cage holding a spear, and they filmed him fighting the lion. He got out of the cage after overcoming the lion.
I said: By God, young Egyptians who fight lions cannot fight the Jews? Can't they devour the Jews? How many millions of our young men are ready to fight lions... I mean, Jews. [...]

"I address them on behalf of 85 million Egyptians, whose hearts beat with hatred for the Jews, and with the knowledge of what the Jews did to us and of how Allah warned us about them...

"I tell them that the battle is bound to come, Allah be praised. The Prophet Muhammad, whose words are divinely inspired, said: 'Judgment Day will come when the Muslims fight the Jews.'

That means that the Muslims will be the ones who engage [in fighting]. It's not just any battle. He said: 'The Muslims will fight the Jews, and the stones and the trees will say: Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.' Even the stones and the trees hate them. The battle is bound to come. [...]

"Jews will be Jews, guys. The Jews of today are the Jews of Khaybar, who tried to poison the Prophet Muhammad. They are the Jews of Banu Nadhir, who tried to kill the Prophet Muhammad. They are the Jews of Banu Qaynuqa', who tried to lift up a Muslim woman's dress. Jews will be Jews. We know what you are like, you Jews, and we know your hatred toward the religion of Allah, toward the servants of Allah, and toward the Muslims worldwide.

"You will be vanquished, Allah willing, but it will not be us who will vanquish you. It will be Allah. Just like He used wind to vanquish you in the War of the Ahzab, and like He used fear to vanquish you in the Battle of Khaybar, Allah will vanquish you again.

"Today, 92% of the world's film industry is in your hands, 90% of the world's famous actors are Jews, and 90% of the giant news networks, like CNN, are in Jewish hands. [...]

"Oh nation of Muhammad, Allah says to you: If you fear war with the Jews, brace yourselves for war with Allah. It is either a war with the Jews or a war with Allah. Allah says that the entire nation could be replaced if it is not prepared to sacrifice its blood for the sake of Palestine. [...]

"My message to all the Jews is that the battle is bound to come and you will be vanquished. Allah has promised that you will be vanquished and that we will prevail. I tell you that our Prophet Muhammad, whose every word we believe and whose light we follow - the moment he signed the Hudaybiyya Treaty with Mecca, the first thing he did after the battle with the Quraysh tribe, only 20 days after signing the Hudaybiyya Treaty, he took his army and attacked Khaybar.

"Why, oh Messenger of Allah? Because these Jews are a cancer. These Jews are a catastrophe. There is not a catastrophe in the world that is not the handiwork of the Jews. These Jews are a cancer in the body of planet Earth, and if permitted, it will spread and infect the entire body. Getting rid of these Jews is a must."
