Our very first day at the new school and our first school picture without Levi as he is off studying Education at the University of Regina! With staggered entrance this year only Olivia and Kelsey were starting on the first day but everyone got up for the occasion.

I asked Ellie to switch with Carson so it went in age but she wasn't having it.

I think we may have woke up the neighborhood.

Many friendly and familiar faces were waiting to greet us at the school.

The school is beautiful. The kids were so excited!

Muffin Morning. We managed to get chocolate chips right up to the eyebrows! They were yummy!

Found our classrooms even though it was a day early. I think Ellie is going to have a HOOT!

This time it was the little ones turn to get on the school bus! Ellie was much more cooperative this time!

Thanks to everyone for all their hard work and dedication getting the school ready. Sweat, tears, even fire and smoke and it was ready on time and amazing! We are really looking forward to the year ahead and many new memories that the kids will create at Centennial!

2014-Levi's Growing Up!

I am working on my Levi's team hockey pictures. A simple enough task, but this will be his last year in minor hockey! We have spent a lot of great times in rinks and with amazing coaches and volunteers in Davidson, Strasbourg, Gravelbourg and here in Swift. It has been an amazing experience. After watching his Midget hockey tournament this weekend I think they need to sell Valium at the booth along with hot chocolate. I love being a hockey parent and Pat has always enjoyed being involved with coaching and tournament organizing. It has been a great way to get to more about Levi and his friends.

I think he is about 6'6" on skates and when he tries to hug me to bribe me into getting him a Gatorade and Twix bar in the lobby I feel pretty tiny. When we lived in Strasbourg he went to the booth with $1 and came back with a burger fries, and a drink. We still don't know how he managed it but even at 4 years old he had the gift of the gab and persuasion on his side. !

Here he is as a Strasbourg Maroon! I do have one earlier picture from Davidson when he was 3 but I am going to have to dig to find that one. The Davidson team was very strong and I believe they were 7 and under so when they got way ahead in the score they would throw the 3 year old on the ice and he would mostly wave at the crowd.

This year Levi will graduate from Grade 12. I feel bad that I have done such a bad job of blogging lately. I share so much on Facebook but will not have a hard copy like I do from blogging. I print a hardcover book ever 100 posts. So I am going to try and do a better job!

Here is Levi on his first day of Kindergarden. I remember walking him to school every day and giving him a kiss goodbye in the boot room. I wanted to see how long it would last before he told me I couldn't kiss him goodbye any more. It was grade 1when I finally go the cold shoulder!

He was excited to start school! I was 6 months pregnant with Olivia here! I tried to recreate these pictures at the beginning of this year but I would have had to papparazzi style sneak up to the parking lot of the Comp where they all hang out. I vow to get a picture of the Comp sign with Levi on Grad Day with big double "#1s!" You will always be our #1 Big Boy Levi!

Kindergarten

The day has finally arrived for our fifth and final child to head of on the bus to school! She was so excited and so were we.

She actually let me brush and curl her hair which was miraculous because she usually screams at the top of her lungs when I do that. But as things were going smoothly upstairs the boys were downstairs trying to break into a can of soup with a butter knife.

The reason there were no tears was because we went to the bus stop early and by the time the bus got there Pat and I were high fiving and Car was praying for the bus to come!!

FIrst Day of School

Yippee! It's time for school. For the first time ever all four of them where up and ready for school because they were so excited. Kindergarden and High School have staggered entrance so the two bookends aren't in school yet but Ellie wanted to pose with her new back pack!!

Central School is turning 100 years old this year. Kelsey is so excited to be the oldest grade in the school for this milestone. Ellie will be in the youngest class so we cover the whole school!

Either Carson is the only pessimist or the best planner. The only coat in the coat room.

This lucky lady will be teaching our third child Grade 5. We will see if Kelsey can keep up the Rokochy reputation for straight A's and being the teacher's pet ;)

Ellie found her teachers and snacks! She actually let me brush her hair this morning. Maybe she is turning over a new leaf.

Olivia was relieved to only have to take one sibling to her school.

It's only two o clock and my helper has already fallen asleep with a whole bag of lucky charm cereal. I can't imagine how tired she will be when she actually attends class.

Ohhh there is a teenager at the door. It's Dom. Levi is just waking up and Ellie has already fallen asleep.

Half Time Show

We are officially half way through summer holidays although it feels a little more like Bill Murray's Ground Hogs day minus the "I Got You Babe" waking my each morning. Today like yesterday and almost everyday I find myself cleaning doing laundry and ripping apart closets in an attempt to get my house clean so that when school starts again we will have some kind of managed chaos.

After having a glass of wine with wonderful girl friends last night I took their sage advice to enlist the help of the built in work force in my house known as my children. Although the teenager did not spring into action at 9 am like I had hoped I took great pleasure in vacuuming outside his door and in fact just stood there an extra five minutes just because I know it annoys him.

Then I wrote a list and gave each child a couple of jobs by noon I realized that this picture was a metephor for the entire cleaning the house while my children are home it's two steps forward and three steps back.

Sixty days keeping the peace, keeping it clean, keeping it together. I hope all you other Moms and Dads are surviving Summer holidays and maybe even thriving.The best part is if it gets really bad you can always go to the swimming pool. The kids are entertained and no one can tell you are crying!

Here's looking forward to August, enjoying some time at the lake, finding my lost car keys and enjoying my clean house even if I have to get up at 6 am to see if clean!

Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

Tomorrow the first ever "Swiftys" will be announced on Swift Current Online. One of the categories was "Best Community Event". You know I love contests and voting so I voted for the Christmas Tree Lighting we will find out at 8 am tomorrow if it wins. We always have so much fun there. The weather maybe cold but the hot chocolate, Christmas Carols, roasting marshmallows and the smiles on the kids' faces all warm the heart and more than make up for the cold toes.

Kelsey was part of his school choir that sang at the tree lighting. Very proud mom standing in the bushes to photograph the back row.

This kids just ditched us to stand by himself for the sleigh ride. I sent Olivia to check on him and she tied up his toque for him. Then when he put the strings in his mouth she yanked them out simultaneously yanking lose his first tooth.

The kids did a great job singing to a large crowd.

The fire fighters handed out marshmallows and we warmed up around the bonfire.

Ellie found herself hypnotized by the fire.

With the line for Santa being very long I thought Ellie would like to go say hi to Mrs. Claus. What a nice lady! Lots of hugs. Ellie tried to sweet talk her into helping her skip to the front of the line to see Santa.

We got hot chocolate from the fabulous Golden West Radio Station.

This is the picture I will show Ellie when she is grown up and tell her we waited in line so she could sit on Santa's knee when in all actuality we did not because her mom and brothers are social butterflies that could not stand in line for too long because we might miss something. Redefining Success- Still Making Mistakes by W. Brett Wilson

I was running out to my van the other day to take Ellie public skating, when a black package poking out of my mailbox caught my eye. I was so excited and surprised to open the black bubble wrap to find a signed copy of Brett's book inside! I sat in the lobby of the rink reading the book written by my business partner and mentor and was reminded how lucky I am to be an entrepreneur who can enjoy the balance of time raising my young family while running a business and having a career.

The book came with a eraser that said "Still Making Mistakes".

I found the book to be a reflection of Brett himself. Equal balance of business, family, friends, and philanthropy. The book is full of inspirational stories. Brett shares insight from his business life, his personal life and why it is so important for him to pay it forward. I have been so fortunate to witness all of those things first hand. He has been an amazing business partner from the very beginning. He offers advice when requested, he has connected me with so many amazing people and is always encouraging.

Sunday Football Funday!

Four years ago I was watching the last game of Levi's football season and I had to leave to go to a photo ordering session. I missed him winning the city championships. After that day, I decided that I would not work on Sundays. It was one of the best decisions of my 16 year photography career.

So when Kelsey and his Inferno team took the field for the final time this season, they were ending an undefeated season and I got to cheer them on to victory!!

Grandpa and Grandma were there to watch and we all snuggled together to keep warm.

Congratulations to number 51 and coach Pat on a victorious, undefeated season! I was so glad to be there and cheer.

Grey Cup 100 Train Rolls through Swift Current

The Grey Cup 100 Train Tour rolled into Swift Current this afternoon. Pat, Ellie and I stopped by for lunch. Yummy M+M burgers.

"The train is wrapped in iconic Grey Cup images and the cars include a high-tech showcase for the Grey Cup itself, a museum car that captures a century of Grey Cup history and a team car that celebrates today’s teams and athletes as well as the CFL’s bright future.

Each location will include appearances by either current Rider players, coaches, staff, alumni, Cheer Team or Gainer the Gopher. " (taken from the Rider website)

The local middle school band enter "trained" everyone waiting to climb aboard. The wait was only about 5-10 minutes outside.

The atmosphere was very festive and the volunteers and staff made sure everything moved along efficiently!

Inside there were a number of interesting facts, pictures and equipment and uniforms from the good old days.

In the second there were touch tv screens where you could find a specific year and see the program, ticket, team picture and the name plate from the cup.

Outside we had a chance to pose with the cup and see my dad and uncle's name up close! The staff takes your picture and will email you a copy.

Such a proud moment. Even though my Dad is gone I feel like my kids can have a piece of him through the legacy of the 1966 team and that their Grandpa is part of Canadian history.

Splurge Group Ideas

One of the more frequently searched topics on my blog is ideas for Splurge Groups. We are on our 3rd go around for our splurge group. The idea is to have 12 members and each month one of the members is in charge of planning a fun activity. Every month members bring $20 and the person hosting the event takes the money and then "splurges" on something for themselves. Whether it is a trip to the spa, that new pair of boots you have been admiring in the window of your local store or wine and chocolate. The main rule is it is not money to be used for your children's soccer fees, the water bill or groceries it is something to treat yourself. At the next gathering you report in "show and tell" fashion what you spent your splurge money on.

We have evolved to just bring a bottle of wine for the organizer instead of the $20 as it was sometimes a chore to figure out who had paid and who was missing and collect later. Some groups have a type of treasurer and write 12 post dated checks. Others pool their money and then go shopping and use the money they have set aside. Any way you organize it the point is kid free fun for a few hours. You must stay out until your children and husband are asleep and sneak quietly back to your home refreshed and recharged!

My last two times planning splurge were polar opposites. The first was a time when everyone was quite busy and we were unable to find a date that worked so I secretly put together a small gift bag and a card. I chose someone from our group and bought a few items I thought would be appealing to her, lipgloss a magazine and a few chocolate bars. I put them in the gift bag and wrote on the card. " Here is a little something to let you know I hope you have a great day. Please pass this gift bag on to someone on the list of your choosing in the next week and fill the bag with something you think they would like. " I listed all the girls' names and checked the person I had given the gift to.

It was fun to hear the reactions as each girl passed on the gift. Whether they were having a bad day and the gift lifted their spirits or they were caught completely off guard and then were excited to pass it on I loved getting the feedback as the bag traveled around.

The next time it was my turn to plan splurge just happened to be the same month as my 40th birthday so I planned an overnight trip to Moose Jaw. I put up a message on Facebook asking for suggestions for great and different things to do in Moose Jaw. After many glowing recommendations I made a reservation at Kergano's restaurant . We had such a great time trying new drinks, appetizers and food.

The staff was great at recommending and customizing. For me they made a caramel machiato martini. It had a chocolate covered coffee bean at the bottom. Delicious!

Some of the staff was Ukrainian so we enjoyed the dancing and perogies. He almost lost his sunglasses!

Then after we were thoroughly fed and watered the staff got up and entertained us with music. Such a fun atmosphere.

They even let us join in and passed out instruments. After seeing this picture I wish I would have brushed my hair after swimming at the spa.

If you go and visit when you are paying your bill you can look up and see where the crazy girls from Swift Current signed the bar after a great night of Splurge! There were no tigers in the hotel room and I didn't wake up with any teeth missing but it was an amazing trip!

Cypress Ford

A new adventure has begun with Pat changing careers and he is now working for Cypress Motors

in Swift Current. It is so nice to be able to stop in with a coffee and say hi at their beautiful new

building and to have him come home for a visit at lunch time. He is really enjoying the challenge of a new position with a great organization.

Cypress recently celebrated their 1 year anniversary of their new building. They business itself is in it's 20th year here in Swift Current.

The high school football team the Colts was on hand for the fundraising car wash. They drafted our two boys to the team to help wash the cars.

There were prizes, hamburgers, cake and demos. Ryan from the radio station was there covering the event. He strikes a pose for the camera.

We were very excited for back to school and our new Legionnaire hockey billet! We had four schools to visit so it was a chaotic day. Levi got to sleep in as he doesn't start until later this week so he missed the first day of school pictures.

Pretty braids thanks to Miss K who also started her first day of teaching today! So proud of her following in my footsteps.

She has that mischievous glint in her eye.

Our Family is in love with the fair! I can never understand people who say they hate the fair and don't go. Nope not us, we wouldn't miss it! This year Levi managed to avoid us and went on another night but we all had a great time!

We were entering the grounds when the tractor came by and I yelled to Pat to take a picture. Well I had it set on manual for a studio setting so this was the result or maybe it is because I am a vampire and don't show up in photos.

First order of business... Food. Food and more Food. We started with Corn Dogs and a ketchup smile.

The love of my life with something he loves a lot. So much love in this picture it inspired me.......

I brought my wedding party back to the fair on Sunday and everyone had so much fun and the workers where so accommodating.

Back to our night of family fun and food.

Had to go looking for this cool cat who was riding with buddies.

Ellie had a little buddy on the rides. The only two on the motorcycle ride and she is being a back seat driver.

That's better let me drive. Check the look on his face!

The end of the night. The sun set, the mosquitoes came out and we began to wind down our night. Pat of course has a fair agenda and you don't play games until the end so you don't have to carry prizes around all night and you eat the Elephant Ear on the way out because it's so messy! Such a planner. Although he didn't plan to go back to our van after 4 hours at the fair to find one of the kids had left the door wide open and good old Swift Current not one thing was taken out of our van. Just the addition of a few hundred mosquitoes.

Pat was so excited to win this pink monkey for his little girl in the hockey shoot. Even ripped the target right off the net. Unfortunately carnival animals are not tough enough for this circus and he met his end tonight. Ellie unstuffed him.

Branding

These days I am spending a lot of time marketing socks and building a "brand". On this particular weekend I took a break from business to spend some quality time with friends and family and work on a whole different type of "brand".

Whether we are helping friends make sausage, building a deck or branding I love to see how our kids pitch in. They are naturally curious, energetic and love to be part of the action. Especially when it comes to something new. If only the same could be said for cleaning their room.

Olivia's job was herding the cows into the pen after they were branded. She is good at this from all the practice she has herding her little brothers and sister!

They said this cow looked different than the rest so I thought they should name it Lady Gaga.

Kesley is very brave and jumped in to push cows down the chute.

Olivia was taking it all in. She even lost a tooth in all the excitement.

Everyone had a job and I could only keep busy so long taking pictures so I asked our host if I could help out thinking I could maybe make a salad for supper. Instead she handed me a scalpel and a handful of balls and after a brief Prairie Oyster peeling tutorial I had a job.

Farm Life.

I know these are going to be the times that the kids look back on and have fond memories. I am so grateful to the many friends we have made and how they treat us like family. It definitely takes a village to help raise these kids!

Finally Olivia had one cow that she had to push all of the rest would be scared of her. I am sure she was thinking maybe I could borrow this stick. It may come in handy at home!

After the branding was over we enjoyed great food, a lot of laughs and we were even brave enough to try a few battered Prairie Oysters. This was definitely an unforgettable day. Thanks to the Dickies for making us part of the farm for the day!

Hamburgers, High Walls and Baseballs

A trip to Saskatoon for the Griswold family can be sure to include one thing. If Dad is picking the restaurant we will be making a stop at Fuddruckers.

Keep one eye out for mom who always loves to steal bites of burger and fries because she orders a chicken burger and no fries and the realizes how good the burgers look.

Then over to the rock climbing wall. Levi and Grandma had already take off to drive back to Davidson and I think Grandma is braver than the kids climbing the rock wall to take the teenager driver training on the highway!

Little sister stays on the ground to cheer the kids on. Mom holds her breath anxiously as her babies are 24 feet in the air. When did I become so wimpy? Does that automatically come with motherhood?

This should be completely natural for the red head. If I had a dollar for every time he climbs over our fence into the neighbors backyard I'd have enough money to fix the loose boards in the fence!

Toys R Us and Snappy Socks

We were so excited to be contacted by a buyer from Toys R Us after she saw us on a rerun of Dragons' Den. We flew to Toronto to meet they buyer at the Toys R Us headquarters. Everything went very well and last week we shipped the socks. So Snappy Socks will be on Toys R Us shelves very soon!

I am not sure if they have ever had vendors pose on their sign before but we had to record this momentous occasion!

My sales rep/friend Karen was very excited about the sale!

She was excited for many reasons and one was that there would be less socks in her garage!

The Toys R Us Headquarters are very close to Canada's Wonderland. I hope the next time we take a trip I will be able to take the kids and they can go play while we work. Lucky for me the park wasn't open yet so I didn't feel quite so bad.

Karen and I went out to celebrate it has taken a lot of hard work to get this far and she has been such and amazing support in this whole process from day one!

Go Fly a Kite

People from Saskatchewan tend to have a pretty positive outlook on life. If you give us lemons we will make lemonade. If you are from Swift Current and you give us wind we will go fly a kite and even have an entire weekend event to embrace and celebrate just how windy our fair city is!

This year is the 8th annual Windscape Kite Festival and it will be held on Sat and Sunday June 23rd and 24th. They always have great music, entertainment, kids activities and plenty of unique kites and all levels of experienced kite flyers. They are always in need of volunteers. Here are some shots of the kids with their kites that they received in a Birthday Goodie bag. The bag included a kite, sidewalk chalk and bubbles. Great entertainment for some outside fun!

The kids actually took turns and helped each other out. Then five minutes they were fighting and the kites got tangled in a tree but for a moment it was pretty sweet!

Here is a great photo challenge for you. Take some images of your kids at play. Not only looking at the camera but doing something they can interact with. You will capture more genuine expressions when they are playing.

National Memorial Day for Lost Socks

On May 9th people every where take a moment to stop and reflect on the many socks that mysteriously go missing. They escape at the laundromat, behind the dryer, outside the aquatic center or left behind at the bowling alley. So today we remember all those socks who have lost their match and take this holiday to look forward and not back to a time without lost socks, a time when sock sorting is a thing of the past! Here is the latest news from Snappy Socks. The two socks that snap together when you wash and dry them so you never have to lose another sock again.

We have signed with a great shoe company called Dawgs Shoes to distribute our socks across the United States. The owners are a great group and have worked with us developing the new sizes and 120 styles! The Wascally Wabit!

Are your kids afraid of mascots and other dress up characters? I think a bit of fear of a 6 foot pink bunny or a giant old guy with a beard in a red suit is a healthy thing. It does seem a bit odd to teach your children about "stranger danger" and then stroll them up to giant creatures and tell them to hug and have a picture with a terrifying stranger.

This year at Easter Feaster there was only one kid buying Olivia in a bunny suit and that was Ellie. She has come a long way in accepting that this enormous rabbit will lead her to chocolate!

Take two. She was a little less afraid but still clinging to a human adult.

This year the two of them were on a chocolate finding mission!

We let the kids go out by their age to give the little ones a chance.
