Paris is a circular city with main roads entering it. Each main door is an entrance to the city and it’s ended by a gate. One of those gates is Porte Saint Dennis. In French Porte means door which literally is a door to the city.

The Eiffel Tower is one of Paris most known landmarks. It was designed by Alec Eiffel, a man who The Pixies made a tribute song, for the Universal Exposition and it was intended to be disassembled right away. Its success and popularity made it stay and it soon became what it is now, a symbol of the capital of France.

Elevador de Santa Justa

Lisbon is full of hills and to communicate them a lot of lifts, trams and trains were built in the city. The lift of Santa Justa (Elevador de Santa Justa) was built in 1904 and its design is supposedly influenced by Eiffel and its disciplines.

Louvre Pyramid

The latest building of the Louvre was this glass pyramid, which serves as the main door to the museum. It was built in 1989 by I.M. Pei. As its made of glass light can go to the underground floor where the ticket area and main entrance are located.

The modern addition raised some controversy, as it’s very different than the ancient design of the surrounding buildings, but today it is regarded as a good solution which has given the museum a spacious central entrance without the need to touch the older patrimony.
