Joy Comes In The Mourning

During our recent unexpected road trip, we met loads of family who never knew we existed. We joined in laughter and tears and caught up with old friends. And, we took another unexpected little road trip to bring us all a little joy amidst the sadness.

During this side trip we had a fantastic lunch with a great friend whom we hadn't seen in about a decade and then we went for a little sand-n-sun...well...sorta. It was kinda cloudy that morning! But we had a great time none-the-less!

We determined that we love Jacksonville Beach and that October is a prime time to visit!
No crowds, loads of shells and not too hot yet not too cool!

Fisher-Price has been providing fantastic, durable toys for kids for decades. And each year, the toys just get better and better!

I was recently offered the opportunity to receive and review a couple of Fisher-Price's newest toys. here are my thoughts.

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learning Farm:

This is a fantastic toy that stimulates your child in every way imaginable! With Fisher-Price's signature bright colors, dual engaging sides, fun sounds and lights, you child will be delighted for hours. Shape sorting, eggs to count, switches to flip and a door to open are only the beginning of the activities this toy offers your baby. Fun songs and flashing lights are an added bonus and I find the little ones in my church nursery (where I donated the toy) come back to this toy again and again. The adults seem to be drawn to it as well. There have been an enormous amount of comments asking "Where did that come from?", "How much is one of those farm toys?", "Where can I get one for my baby?" and "Wow! That is THE cutest toy!" I hear it every single time I keep the nursery (which is a LOT). I've even caught older kids sneaking in to play with the Learning Farm. There is so much to discover with it that I can't possibly list it all.

I've found the Learning Farm to be incredibly durable and it was very easy to assemble. It took me around 20 minutes, a Philips head screwdriver, and 3 AA batteries (not included) Kids were scrambling to play with it even before I pulled it from the box! One little girl keep looking at the box, walking away, squatting in front of the box and patting it, then walking away. Then, she would return to look at it again and sigh. It was quite hilarious!

Geared for ages 6 - 36 months, the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learning Farm retails for approximately $80, and worth EVERY penny!

Fisher-Price Go Baby Go Stride To Ride Lion:

This has been another huge hit in my church nursery! The night I brought it, kids were staring at the box and pushing the lion's nose before I even considered getting it out to play with.

With the seat lifted to a handle position, the Go Baby Go Stride-To-Ride Lion will steady a wobbly baby just learning to walk. It will also encourage baby to keep going with its fun lights and sounds. Once walking is mastered, mom or dad can lower the seat so baby can hop on and ride away! All of the babies seem to love the lions soft, felt mane and it's incredibly easy to convert from a walker to a ride-on toy. I can easily change the seat with one hand while holding a baby in the other. All of the kids are drawn to the bright, fun colors and the fun noises this toys makes. I love that it has volume control since several noisy babies exploring their vocabulary skills and squealing with delight, along with 15 toys that all make noise makes for a frazzled nursery worker!

The Stride-To-Ride Lion was so easy to assemble and required no tools at all. It does require 3 AA batteries that are not included.

The Fisher-Price Go Baby Go Stride-To-Ride Lion is for ages 9 - 36 months and retails for approximately $40.

Unexpected Road Trip

My sweet hubby's precious grandmother passed away on Saturday. =[
It was unexpected and so we've had to make an unexpected road trip down to Florida for the funeral. We will not be returning home until late Wednesday night so please be patient with me. I will announce winners when I return and have more posts and contest up for you!

I really hate when my sheets loose their freshness. There's nothing like climbing into bed with fresh, crisp sheets. But, that freshness only last a few short days after washing, and well, moms don't have time to wash sheets a couple of times a week. Well, at least I don't! Bed Bouquet to the rescue!

My Thoughts:
I was skeptical of this product at first. Would it really keep my sheets fresh smelling? Surely I would feel it when I sleep or hear the wrapping crunch each time I moved. I thought for certain my husband would feel it under the sheet the very first night and tell me to take it off. Or, he would say, "Why does the bed smell funny and can you get rid of it tomorrow?" I was also expecting it to stay in place for an entire 8 seconds before one of us rolled over it and it slid to the end of the bed.

I am very pleased to say that NONE of what I thought was accurate! And, I LOVE the Bed Bouquet!

Bed Bouquet is very small and simple to use. Simply peel away the plastic cover on the front to expose the vents, then peel away the covering on the back to expose the adhesive strip. Place on the top of your mattress, replace the fitted sheet and viola!

The scent is gentle and refreshing, yet not overpowering. Like a lot of scent? Place it about where your shoulders lay. Want a little less? Place about midway in the bed. I like mine a bit past midway but not quite to the shoulders. And, it really does last about 30 days. And, it really does stick and stay there! And, no, you can't tell it's there unless you are looking for it! I'm a very satisfied Bed Bouquet user and I highly recommend it!

My Thoughts:
My girls are older now so I tried these out on a couple of friend's babies. They gobbled them right up! Most people think of bullying as something that only happens on the school playgrounds, but with today's tech savvy kids chatting online daily, bullying has taken on a whole new "playground."

What is exactly is Cyberbullying?

Recipes From General Mills Table Talk

Ok. So, you've seen the pictures I posted from my visit to General Mills headquarters in late August. And, you know that I had the rare opportunity to cook in the Betty Crocker Kitchens. However, I have yet to actually share any of the fabulous and easy recipes! Sorry I've left you out of the tasty fun! Here are a few that I have made for my family since trying them at General Mills. The taco recipes are perfect for Family Taco Night along with a great game of El Tacodor, which you can print HERE!
Double-Layer Tacos

1 lb ground beef

1 package (1 oz) Old El Paso® taco seasoning mix

3/4 cup water

1 package (4.6 oz) Old El Paso® taco shells

10 Old El Paso® flour tortillas for soft tacos & fajitas (6 inch; from two 8.2-oz packages)

1 can (16 oz) Old El Paso® refried beans, heated

3/4 cup Old El Paso® salsa (any variety)

1 1/2 cups shredded lettuce 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (4 oz)

1. In 10-inch skillet, cook beef over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until brown; drain. Stir in taco seasoning mix and water. Cook over medium heat 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2. Heat taco shells and flour tortillas as directed on packages.

3. Spread 2 tablespoons heated refried beans on each flour tortilla. Place hard taco shell on center of flour tortilla and gently fold tortilla sides up to match taco shell sides.

4. Spoon 2 tablespoons beef mixture into each double-layer taco shell. Top with salsa, lettuce and cheese. Serve immediately.

Makes 12 tacos

What did my family think?
"These are AWESOME!" was heard a couple of times! "Wow these are filling! And really good!" came from my hubby. "When can we have these again?" said another child! So, apparently my family thought they were pretty great, as do I!

Easy Fish Tacos

1 package (10 to 12 oz) breaded or battered fish fillets (6 fillets)

1 box (4.6 oz) Old El Paso® taco shells (12 shells)

1/2 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing

1 package (1 oz) Old El Paso® taco seasoning mix (any variety)

6 cups coleslaw mix (from 16-oz bag)

Old El Paso® taco sauce, if desired

1. Bake fish fillets as directed on package. Cut each fillet into bite-size pieces.

2. Heat taco shells in oven as directed on box.

3. In medium bowl, mix mayonnaise and seasoning mix; stir in coleslaw mix. Let stand 5 minutes. Fill shells with fish pieces and coleslaw mixture; top with taco sauce.

6 servings (2 tacos each)

What did my family think?

When my kids heard and saw what was for dinner that night, I heard all kinds of moans and groans. We aren't fish eaters so I wasn't sure how it would go over. I told them that they must at least give it a try and if they didn't like it, fine. Well, Sarah ate 4 and Kristin had 2. Though, she would never admit to enjoying them! I was VERY surprised at how much I liked these since I like fish the least of us all! I know they sound weird, but they are SO easy to make and SO good! We'll be having them again! The slaw is a big hit on it's own and I actually took it to a church function where it was devoured!

Oven-Fried Chicken Tenders

1/4 cup Gold Medal® all-purpose flour

1 egg

1 tablespoon water

1 cup Progresso® plain or Italian style panko crispy bread crumbs

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 package (about 1 1/4 lb) chicken breast tenders

2 tablespoons butter, melted

Favorite dipping sauce, if desired

1. Heat oven to 425°F. Line cookie sheet with foil; spray with cooking spray.

2. In shallow dish, place flour. In another shallow dish, beat egg and water. In third shallow dish, mix bread crumbs and cheese. Coat chicken with flour; dip into egg mixture, then coat with bread crumb mixture. Place on cookie sheet. Drizzle with melted butter.

3. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, turning once, until chicken is no longer pink in center and coating is golden brown. Serve with dipping sauce.

What did my family think?

Well, I made this tonight, Oct. 13, along with some green beans w/potatoes and "That corn" (I'll post that recipe below because my kids BEG for it!). Every bite of everything is GONE. Either I had a very hungry family or it was very well liked! I have a feeling it was the latter since the kids moaned about the last piece of chicken being gone, even after 2 helpings! It's been requested again already!

So, thus far, every Table Talk recipe I've tested out on my family has been a huge success! And now, you have 3 new recipes to try with yours! Enjoy!

"That Corn"

1/2 stick butter

2 -3 can Green Giant Niblets Corn

1/4 cup sugar (I use a tad less)

1 tsp salt

pepper to taste (I use a good bit to give the corn a kick)

Melt butter in large fry pan. Drain corn and add to pan along with remaining ingredients. Cook on med high until all liquid is gone and corn begins to caramelize, stirring occasionally. Enjoy!

My Thoughts:
We had a blast playing Rummino! It was hard to get started and we all had loads of questions, even after reading the rules of play, which we found a bit confusing and not quite clear enough. However, once we actually got going, we figured it out as we went and we all really enjoyed playing, from my 9 year old daughter to Grandpa! Kristin, my 9 year old, beat us all and loved it!

I love that they included a bag for the tiles. It makes storage and transporting so much easier. I would have liked to have tile racks, especially for our younger players who had trouble keeping theirs hidden from others and kept knocking everyone's tiles over with all of their wiggling! Also, some score sheets would have been a nice added bonus. We did love the big tiles, for easier handling, and their clear markings that everyone could easily read.

Overall I think Rummino will be a game that our family will see out on the table at many future games nights and we all can't wait to play again! I highly recommend it for your upcoming family game night!

With continual scares of the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus spreading like wildfire across the country, parents are giving more and more thought about teaching their children good hand washing skills. The Shandle can help!

What is The Shandle you ask?
The Shandle is a small, plastic reminder that attaches to your toilet seat to remind children to wash their hands after using. It also serves as a handle so children (and adults) no longer have to touch the seat when lifting it up or down.

The Shandle is super easy to install. It is attached with a pressure sensitive foam adhesive and is attached to the underside of the seat. Once installed, allow it to set for about 24 hours, after that, The Shandle can support the weight of both the seat and the lid and should last about 6 months.

My Thoughts:
Being completely honest here, I had trouble installing The Shandle. Why? Well, it had NOTHING to do with the product, it was my toilet seat. It has this weird curve on the underside which caused The Shandle to not connect with it properly. So, I did the next best thing, I attached mine to the lid! It does just as great of a job reminding the girls to wash as it would on the actual seat. The girls think it's cute, which means that they are looking at it, which means they are reminded to wash their hands. With H1N1 (Swine flu) going around here, I'm thankful that they are being reminded to wash without ME constantly having to say it!

The Shandle comes in great, fun designs for girls, boys, neutral, holiday related or decorative. There is something for everyone. The hard part is deciding!

I had never heard Michael Bublé until a couple of weeks ago. I've heard friends talk about him and how great his music is, but didn't become intrigued enough until recently. What was I thinking? I have thoroughly enjoyed "Crazy Love" over the past few days. Surprisingly, my children also enjoy it! Of course we all love the upbeat and fun track #5, "Haven't Met You Yet," but there isn't a bad song among them. My mom and sister seemed to enjoy the CD as well!

Crazy Love" was released, in the US, yesterday, October 9th and is available at your local retailer or online at Amazon.com. Better got yours while they last!

Most of us know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. In honor, KN Karen Neuburger and Dillard's department stores are teaming together to host "Pink Parties"! For each purchase of KN Karen Neuburger pajamas during the "Pink Parties", KN will donate 30 minutes of research to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Shoppers will also receive a gift with purchase of a pink ribbon key chain. The goal is to sponsor one month of research to aid in developing life-saving treatments and eventually, a cure. In addition to the "Pink Parties", to help KN reach the goal, donations are also being accepted through their Time for Research page.

So, what can be done with 30 minutes of research? Well, in one hour of research a breast cancer biopsy can be performed. In one day, a clinician can conduct genetic counseling for one woman. In one week, researchers can compare ten tumor samples. So, 30 minutes can mean a lot, especially to a patient. When it comes to breast cancer research, EVERY minute counts.

My Thoughts:
Snow White is a superior classic and watching it on Blu-Ray makes it even more magical! We LOVE this movie! My girls have watched it again and again and the thoroughly enjoy the games on the bonus disc! This is a must have for your DVD or Blu-Ray collection, kids or no kids!

I had heard OF singing sensation, Michael Bublé, but until last week, I had never HEARD him. WOW! Now I regret what I was missing!!

Michael Bublé's newest album, Crazy Love, is due to be released on October 9 and I cannot wait to receive my copy! Also, stay tuned for a giveaway of Crazy Love!!

Smucker's Uncrustables

My girls love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. They will eat them for breakfast, lunch, dinner or as a snack. And, if they don't like what's for dinner, there's my dad's old saying, "There's always peanut butter and jelly!"

Sarah doesn't mind the crust so much, but Kristin has become quite finicky about it and has recently begun cutting off the crust...and feeding it to the DOG. She was thrilled when I brought home a box of Smucker's Uncrustables! No crusts to cut (and waste)! And, they are already made so the girls can grab and go! And, they are ALWAYS on the go! At our house I only buy wheat bread so I was excited to see that Smucker's now offers Uncrustables in a whole wheat variety.

I bought the peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches to try out. What did we think? TERRIFIC! These are a great snack and perfect for those days when we head out for a homeschool field trip and I need to pack a last minute lunch. They are also great for soccer practices and even snack during games. As for the taste? Everyone loved them and said they tasted fresh and had just the right amounts of filling.

I can't wait to find and try the Peanut Butter and Honey Uncrustables! I have fond memories of peanut butter and honey sandwiches as a child, but the mixture always ran out the sides of the bread. With Uncrustables, the insides are nicely contained and far less messy to eat!

I did have a hard time finding the new whole wheat varieties in a local store and ended up having to get them on an out-of-town trip. I'll be glad when they expand the selection my area and my local stores carry different flavors and package sizes. As of right now, in my town, I can only get Strawberry on White bread in a large package. As for now, we'll settle for what we can find because they are a hit at my house!
