Okay this worked so much better in my head.

Hm. Well I've reformatted it a little and I've added Azizi's, Fiona's, Wei Li's and Sarah's thingies in, but really, apart from you guys, is there anyone else who still comes to this blog? I posted a message on the 5 Lily facebook page but I doubt anyone saw it, so I'm thinking whoever knows anything about whomever should just go ahead and write down whatever you know. Like stuff gleaned from facebook snooping, reunions, whatever. What I’ve done (on this Friday night when I should be doing research) is pick stuff off facebook pages, but it’s all very scant so I was thinking maybe we could send out a mass email via facebook to 5 Lily girls telling them to provide details etc.? What do you think? FEEDBACK S'IL VOUS PLAIT. Also, feel free to edit anything...I think what might work is highlighting everything in this post and then pasting it onto Word and fixing it there. Blogger is being a BITCH and will not let cut and paste function normally.

So the other day in my graduate seminar I learnt a new word: PROSOPOGRAPHY. And rather than try to concoct a personally-worded definition for it I will plagiarize from the OED:

prosopography, n.

1. The description of the form or personal appearance of an individual; an instance of this. Now rare.

2. A study or description of an individual's life, career, etc.; esp. a collection of such studies focusing on the public careers and relationships of a group in a particular place and period; a collective biography. As a mass noun: the study of such descriptions, esp. as an aspect of classical history; such studies or histories as a genre.

Right. So the definition we should be interested in is #2, the pertinent part of which I have made bold. A collective biography of 5 Lily 2005. Spanning, of course, the years after we left high school. Because we've all been scattered like flotsam and jetsam and although we've all got a vague idea of who's doing what and where the key word in the last clause of my sentence was vague; that is to say, there is no faithful documentation of what everyone in 5 Lily has been doing since high school.

So what I propose is this: a prosopography of 5 Lily, Class of 2005. Tracing, namely, one's current location, one's current career, and, possibly, one's current marital status. And I'm hoping you guys can help fill this out because frankly speaking I'm a flotsam that's floated off pretty far and I've only really kept in touch with less than a handful of people.

I thought it would be a really good time for us to do this now because a lot of us are graduating, a few of us are getting jobs, etc., whatever. We're moving into another stage of life. So...pourquoi pas?

Now, the logistics of this: hm. I don't think any of you can edit my post, so maybe you should copy the table below from my published post, then paste it onto a new post, fill it up with whatever you want, whatever you know, then re-post the table. That's the only way I see it working. I've filled up my slot and taken the liberty of filling up Syazlin's, and I could fill up some others, but I figure I'll leave that to you guys, because I haven't really kept in touch with anyone else. I hope this works! And lemme know what you guys think. And feel free to add a column or whatever you want to the table, or correct anything: I tried very hard to remember everybody (I had to look at an old class photo) and I hope I haven't forgotten anybody, but I've forgotten a few last names, possibly misspelled a few first names. It's a collective biography, but also a collective work, so allons-y!

i was practicing how to stitch today (operative surgery exam on tuesday), and there i was trembling away (caffeine and salbutamol and a dose of feeling nervous) and then suddenly thought of how bizarre it was that here i am, sewing muscle fibers, and yet it was just like yesterday i was in my baju kurung, dissecting a frog in bio (lilian was tearing and someone (can't remember ouch), mercilessly poking at the insides of the frog and making all the egg-y bits come out).

and then of course i had to weird myself out even more by thinking, that whoa, one day (if all works out fine), i'll be stitching somebody's insides up! and at that time, i would look back at the day, when i was in the topan department (which reeks terribly of formalin and makes you want to bathe a lot), being all nervous about tying the perfect knot and reminiscing about the day i cut open a frog.

heh.

The class of 2005. It has been 5 years. I bet some of them have entirely forgotten about this blog. My being here proves that I have not forgotten. Just being lazy as always. Updating blogs has never been easy for me.

I have another two more semesters and then I'm off to training next year January (most probably in Penang). I can't wait to get out of college. Life is pretty miserable there, for me at least. I know I should be grateful that I am still in the comfort of my home but the grass is always greener on the other side, no? So yeah, can't wait to get independent and become a workaholic. Going insane because of assignments. Glad it's almost done right now.

I miss all of you! We should have a reunion when everyone is back home.

Yup, 2010's really amazing Sarah. Happening.

These few weeks, I'm being drowned in club activities, class responsibilities, training, lectures on diseases, surgeries, homework & assignments etc.

I found out I'm to be posted to the largest/busiest/understaffed ward for 7 weeks starting April right after tests. More procedures to be achieved. Then there's OSCE/practical exam after those grueling 7 weeks.

Until the end of the year, there's only 1 holiday week - the Hari Raya break.

Sighs.

Welcome to 2nd year, where people struggle to maintain/up their GPA and sanity.

Crikey.

On a lighter note, I started to serve in street & worship ministry for my church here. A positive start :).

Btw, how's everyone else? =) I pray all is well ^^

that's a while.

it's 2010 now. amazing, innit?

i still find it hard to write 10 as the year. i automatically start with a 0, then squeeze in a 2 in between the 2 and the slash that came after the month and finish it with a 10.

then be stupefied for 5 seconds that it is 2010 already.

time is moving at such an accelerated speed.

i wanted to turn off this computer and get back to all the homework i got for the weekend 3 hours ago, and then somehow got distracted by a lot of rock music.

ho hum.

that's the most exciting thing that could happen to me these days. coming across a really good song sung live in the 70s or 80s by some rockband that 99% of those that make up my generation never heard of.

my studies have become a bit of a bore, because i feel like i'm learning nothing new this year and i'm getting turned off by everything being in russian. so much so, to the point that i refuse to speak russian outside of class. if i'm feeling rotten enough, i tell them, sorry, i don't understand a word you're saying and just watch them try to get the message across.

did i mention it's still snowing here? ugh. after 2 days of sunshine and rays of hope of spring being in the air (i swear i heard birds chirping the other morning), we get a snowstorm that doesn't stop for 2 days -_-

pooey. i usually would have the summer to count down to (3 months), but even that has been stolen from me. just like how i feel like i've been robbed of the chance of getting into a proper uni. if there was one thing i could change, it would have been to stick to doing form six, then imu or something and then the states or something. anything, but this.

this post is getting depressing. i really started it out to ask how everyone else was doing. i hope all is well with you guys, where ever you may be.

Updates:
Been back in Dublin 5 weeks or so now. Already losing my tan.
Found a new place and moved. Been here for almost 2 weeks now. 2 roomed apartment. Pretty comfortable.
Lectures started. Trying to adjust to absorbing info again.

Been posting for the past 12 days straight in the ward. Definitely learnt a lot throughout these days, but the ward sister shouldn't have scheduled my shifts like this:-
Week 1: Sunday off, Monday - Saturday work.
Week 2: Sunday - Friday work, Saturday off.

My ankles were swollen yesterday, couldn't walk much, except to the cafeteria for dinner. Sigh.

i just happened to notice that yikuan's entry was the 100th post here. =)
and i guess updates here come in batches, no?

for myself, it's now the last day of my easter/spring break. went to holland and belgium for 12 days. pictures are on facebook. i definitely had fun and experienced lots of 'firsts' on this trip, but it wasn't quite as exciting as going around UK. can't quite put that into words. =P

and, of course, the exams. in 5 weeks. and then i'll get a 14 weeks long break. but no, i don't think i'll be going home. probably travel, and get a part time job, or possibly while away the time reading non-medical stuff and watching movies, as no medical student during term time can. haha.

a short bit of news i got from my sister today (might be 'old-s' for some of you), pn maimunah is currently in paris. went with her husband who is now working there. i haven't yet gotten her email address, but i guess anyone planning to go to paris can look her up or something. =D

Since Sarah asked for an update, I shall write a few words to appease her. Haha!!

A short update about what I am up to these days:

Will be facing finals in one week's time
Assignments piling up. Total number of words must be a minimum of 4k each. (I have four waiting to annihilate me so the grand total is 16k of words! I am feeling queezy at the thought of it.)
Haven't started on revision for finals. Planning to repent and will definitely start tomorrow.
What else?

Too tired to think of more now. Gotta go catch my beauty sleep (I know it won't help much in beauty starting my sleep at this hour) at this time as I am heading off to north (Penang!!) tomorrow.

zipau, people will somehow ALWAYS have something to say.

do as you please and don't let what they say get to you (though many a relationship get killed by rumours because some people are so worried about what people might say -__________________________________- those certain people are just too immature to be bothered with as well, so don't waste your time with them).

sooner or later, these gossipers move on to another topic. people are interested in NEWs, not olds....so hang in there and concentrate you energy on something else instead of 'avoiding gossips'.

ps: happy news! i have a very relaxed schedule for mondays and fridays, which means my week 'begins' on tuesday and ends thursday morning after pharmaco (general surgery is not as fun as that depicted in grey's anatomy! no mc dreamy! no steamy relations! just grumpy jocky surgeons that teach for 5 minutes [maybe! sometimes they don't even turn up!] stuff you should already know, such as: bad sepsis leads to wound contamination), so no stress there! just aggravation!

I missed being in the noisiest class with the most outstandingly variable students. I think everyone of you 5 Lilians were total wacko and at some point, EXOTIC. Brought out the best of me, you people did. :) Grateful to have friends such as you!

Over here aite, it's so funny la, cause I was the prefect last time, so freaking fierce and strict and bla bla bla. (Sorry for the many dimerits that have made some of you suffer detention duty)

However, now, amongst my fellow friends, I'm the one who talks too much, play too much, sleep too much, very stubborn etc. (If they give dimerits everytime I show "inappropriate" behaviour of a soon-to-be-20-years-old, for sure I have sufficient amount to last me a lifetime detention duty :P)
I secretly hope that there are friends as "high" as you guys are though. Then, we could share laughter everytime we do silly little things. :D

Owh ya, I'm sure you all know more about this than I. How do we stop gossip ya? You all know la, I never got myself involved with guys, never go tuition some more. Haih. Give me headaches only~

was randomly reading blogs, aka procrastinating, when i stumbled across one owned by a 5 lilian.

a 5 lilian of 2009.

which made me feel:

a) old
b) shelfed

there were pictures and the girls in there look so tiny. like 10 year olds dressed in baggy interact Ts. i looked back at some of the ones i have from that time, and we don't look as young as they did. perhaps they dwell in the same naive belief that we once held: that right then, we knew quite a lot.

there were posts about pn yamini, pn sharifah, ms koghi.

it was an odd sensation reading all this. brought back memories of the volleyball court in the mornings and meeting friends in corridors.

it was odder still to realise, 4 years have gone...ALREADY!

where are the 5 lilians of 2005? and what are most of you guys up to?

amazingly, when i'm not supposed to be online, the connection is PERFECT! it crawls for like three hours and just as i tell myself, ok time to get offline and hit the books, bugger starts loading pages within seconds. like now, i should get dressed and get ready to head to the hospital for two brutal hours with this russian version of dr house (not as handsome). very painful being on the receiving end of 'you are all stupid, unfortunately (his favourite word, along with fortunately and NO. and his favourite phrase: nobody knows why...? i see...).

foooo....rambled a bit out of course there.

wanted to give the update from the russian side. i'm in my third year. i've survived so far. AVALANCHE of colloqs (colloquims=exams=ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHH) all the time.

i've started ID (internal diseases) which so cool because i finally feel a lil' doctor-ish. i've also started pharmacology which is out of the world fun! (and no, i'm not being sarcastic). really, compared to biochem, this stuff is a lil harder but it never ceases to amaze me how drugs (chemical compounds) interact in the body at system level (and the most MIND BOGGLING part is how it interacts at molecular level and causes all this cellular changes).

hands up how many actually understood the top paragraph? sometimes....most of the time, i feel like medicine is killing conversations for me. no one, save another madical student will understand the joys of locating the purkinje fibers or demarcation zone of necrosis under a microscope, or spotting a cluster of gram positve streptococci or cultivating succesfully a plate of salmonella. or how the body is this one functional system and the infinite number of ways things can go wrong inside and outside and the steps the body takes on its own to overcome such problems and the possible outcomes.

i'm such a nerd when it comes to medicine -________________-

i've also got GENERAL SURGERY this year, but i'm depressed as hell because there's NO hands on action. heck, there's no action whatsoever because the teacher hardly comes (and i have problems waking up on tuesday mornings to travel so far only to sit in a dingy room, hoping for someone to walk in and say, PRACTICAL...NOW! instead of lecturing on asepsis and sepsis -_______________________________-).

the subject that takes the cake for being subject of the year has got to be MEDICAL INFO. and here, i'm being sarcastic. we're actually taught how to use the computer.

of course i haven't the heart to say that to the teacher, who calls me 'umnitsa' all the time (genius). oh yeah, point i forgot to mention...the class is conducted mostly in russian. so one positive point was, me getting my weekly reassurance that i actually have a certain grasp of the language already.

right. that was way toooooooo many paragraphs of what i'm up to at school.

and am gonna be late for the date with the russian house.

well, just for the sake of being able to have an excuse to waste more time, thought i'd peep in and scribble something.

i've been in ireland 3 weeks now. it's getting colder everyday. stepping out of the shower is becoming very daunting. am no longer falling asleep in lectures, but still drifting away most of the time.

what am i to do? cardsigning is following friday. 4 weeks of anatomy to be tested. oh no!

and i seem to want food all the time! now i know why people put on weight when they go overseas, especially when it becomes this cold. and it's not even the coldest months yet. brrr...
