URL Shortener Using Python

Hey Coder are you eager to learn to code "URL Shortener" using python...

✅Problem Statement:

Mr. John is working on presentation & he need to include a very long link in his presentation.

We need to shorten the link to make the presentation super cool & impressive.

Let's create a URL shortener!!!

✅Concepts Coverd in this Post :

pyshorteners library
using Shortener()
using tinyurl.short()
using input()
using print()

📑Let's Code :

Step 1: Open VS code and create a python file name as URLshortener.py

Step 2: Now we will download the pyshorteners library using the terminal.

Click on terminal above and type command as pip install pyshorteners.

After successfully installing you will see output as above.

Step 3:

First we will import the pyshorteners library file.
Now we will take the input URL using input() function and store this in the link variable.
We will assign the pyshorteners.Shortener() function to the shortener variable, and we can use it as many times as possible.
Now we pass input URL to tinyurl.short function as a parameter & then store it into a short_link variable.
Finally we will print shorter URL using print() function .

Post 9 - Make Cricket Players List using Java

In today's post we are going to solve a simple problem using List and Map in Java.

▶ Problem Statement :

Mr. John have a list of players and runs made by each player. He wants to divide players into two groups - batsman and bowlers based on below condition :

- if runs made by player are less than 500 , he will be considered as bowler

else he will considered as batsman.

Note* : If you are not familiar with Eclipse IDE please check my previous posts. This post will not contain basics of Eclipse or steps to empty create project.

Step 1 : We are going to use single class for this project. So let's create Main.java class.

Main.java class will contain three methods :

1. main()

2. addPlayers () - to add data

3. createBowlerAndBatsmanList() - to create two seperate lists for bowlers and batsman.

Step 2 :

1. As mentioned in the step 1 , we are going to call addPlayers() from main().

2. addPlayers() will return Map which contains name of player and total runs scored by that player.

Please refer below code snippet for the same :

Step 3 : In this step, we will write logic to create bowlers and batmans list in createBowlersAndBatsmanList().

This method accepts Map<String,Integer> as a parameter.

We will call this method from main().

1. Now, we will iterate over map using forEach loop.

2. We will check runs scored by each player,

• if runs scored are less than or equal to 500, he will be considered as bowler

• else he will be considered as batsman.

3. Accordingly we will add player to respective list.

Step 4 : Now we will run the code and check the output.

🔴Before we start, Let's have a quick look on What MAVEN is ?

⇒ Maven is a Project Management Tool, based on Project Object Model(POM). It is used for project's build, dependency and documentation.

📑 Let's Code :)

For Currency Converter, We will Create MAVEN Project instead of Creating Simple Java Project.

Step 1 : Create Maven Project in Eclipse.

Open Eclipse → File → New → Others → Maven → Maven Project .

Follow the steps as shown below :

New Pop-up window will appear for creating New Maven Project. Follow the steps as shown below -

In this window , we need to provide Group Id , Artifact Id , Name of Project and short Description.

👉Group Id follows Java's Package Name rules. GroupId starts with a reversed domain name.

👉 Artifact Id specifies the id of a project.

Once you filled all the details , Click on NEXT. This will create a new Maven Project.

Every Maven Project has pom.xml file which contains the information of project and configuration information for the maven to build the project such as dependencies, build directory, source directory , plugins , goals , etc.

Step 2 : Create Required Packages and Java Classes.

Our Project Structure will look like this -

🔹 This project will have TWO Packages in src/main/java folder -

Right Click on the src/main/java and create these two packages.

1] com.thecodingbuddy.blog.java.demo - Application.java class

2] com.thecodingbuddy.blog.java.demo.model - CurrencyConverter.java class

3] com.thecodingbuddy.blog.java.demo.service - CurrencyConverterService.java class

🔹 Right Click on com.thecodingbuddy.blog.java.demo and create new java class Application.java

This Class will contain main() method.

Similarly , Create remaining two Packages and respective Classes inside those packages.

Step 3 : Let's Code for CurrencyConverter.java class.

As CurrencyConverter is a model class. It will only contain fields/ variables , getter and setters , constructor.

CurrencyConverter.java

Step 4 : Now let's complete CurrencyConverterService.java class.

As this is a service class, this will contain business logic to process the request/ data.

Logic -

This class will contain method to convert one currency to another
Method will accept object of model class.
Currently we are supporting 4 currencies - Dollar , Eur , Pound and Yen.
If user has entered currency other than this, we will display message as - "Currency Not Supported" else Amount will be converted to required currency.

CurrencyConverterService.java

Step 5 : Let's code for Application.java class

This class will contain main() method.

This will perform following functions -

Accept input from user
Create object of CurrencyConverter class using parameterized constructor.
Call method of CurrencyConverterService to perform conversion.
Display Output on console

Step 6 : Let's Run the Project and Check Output :)
