The first time I heard about BDJ was when they contacted me last year. According to one of their members, they will be sending a Belle de Jour Power Planner for the year 2013. Since I love collecting planners, I accepted their offer. At first, I had no plan of using it especially when I'm a loyal user of my favorite coffee shop's planner. However, things have changed and I fell in love with BDJ Power Planner 2013 so I'm currently using it.

I decided to subscribe for BDJ's newsletters. Through the emails I receive, I found out about BDJ Box. It took me a long time to order because I wanted to read more about the subscription boxes before I get one for myself. When I went to a short vacation with my parents in Cebu and Bohol, this is the item I brought with me. With a high sun screen protection, I felt protected from the scorching heat of the sun. The nice thing about this skin care product is that it is waterproof. Neutrogena promises that this "sunblock has a light fresh scent and is gentle even for sensitive skin."

ISkin New York Daily Sunshield SPF25

Okay, I have to be honest. This item is still in my BDJ Elite Box. For almost a month now, this product is still left untouched and unused. Some of my friends already told me that iSkin is a premium item. By simply looking at its packaging, I can tell that it is a luxurious product. Oh, I can't wait to use it!

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick

If there is one person who goes gaga over lipsticks, it's probably me. Well, I know I'm not the only one. Most ladies have a thing for different shades of lipsticks. My favorite shade has always been red. There are two things I love about Revlon ColorStay. First is its color and the second one is the fact that it's long-lasting. This is my most favorite item from the BDJ Elite Box.

Davines Nounou Shampoo and Conditioner

I'm considering buying a full size of Davines Nounou Conditioner. It's amazing how the product makes my hair look well-taken care of. One of my dilemmas is experiencing bad hair days and thanks to Davines conditioner, problem gets solved every time I use it. However, Davines shampoo is just okay. I don't see it as a great product.

This is one of the awesome items inside the BDJ elite box. The sample size sent was only 5ML and I wish BDJ team added some additional ml on this product. Oh, dream in couture. This is for the girl who appreciates and celebrates the couture in everyday - from her handbag to her shoes to her fragrance. Since I am fond of collecting perfume, I barely use Viva La Juicy La Fleur but I always bring it with me!

Ahava Essential Day Moisturizer

I don't enjoy using a facial moisturizer. So, again, this product is still left unused. I will start to use it someday. I just want to try the item and see if it's something I should use on a regular basis. What does this item promises? It effectively replenishes, re-hydrates, and recharges the skin. It's a sensation that says "My skin is reborn."

Derma-grade ingrediends for beautiful, healthy skin. Almost everyday, I put makeup on. It has become a daily ritual. With this, I feel the need to use a safe makeup remover and cleansing oil. It's great that the Celeteque item is included in the BDJ box. Now, I can go to sleep confidently knowing that I'm using a great cleansing product. I swear I'm going to purchase this item when the bottle from BDJ runs low.

Turning a Year Older: Algene at 22

How did I start my day? I attended the 6AM mass at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church. The night before my special day, I promised to visit the church so I can give thanks to God for all the great things in my life. I also wanted to let Him know that I am contented with every single thing I have and that I am deeply happy with all the persons surrounding me. Of course, I also wanted to pray for a stronger and better "me" at 22.

My birthday was perfect because of my family and friends. They all made my day a memorable one. Despite their hectic schedules, they still came at my place for my simple birthday celebration. Some even stayed until 5 in the morning to party. I'm also grateful to those who made some efforts in greeting me a happy birthday. The birthday gifts I received are also highly appreciated. It was so sweet of them to get the books I love, makeup items I admire and many more!

My all-time supportive parents also made my birthday a truly special one. Without them, I am not the person that I am today. I wouldn't even exist and get a chance to see the beauty of life. My mom and dad bring out the best in me. I have a happy heart because of them. To both my parents, thank you for giving me a happy family! You guys are the best.

Summerfaction 2013: Your Fun Weekend Destination

I've been looking forward for my official summer break since March. There were many things going on with my school so I wasn't able to enjoy the whole month of April. Some weeks were spent on studying for my exams and memorizing some items. Indeed, law school is a jealous mistress! Despite all my hectic schedule, I was still able to go to the beach with my blogger friends and travel to Cebu and Bohol with my parents. Now that second semester of my first year in College of Law is finally over (three days ago), I can already do everything I want.

There are many events lined up for my Summer 2013. One of those is attending the grandest summer event in the city: Summerfaction 2013. It is a month-long Music Festival in Davao City from April - May. It will bring Music, Food and Lifestyle together under one roof.

This event will color the summer of every Davaoeño and Davaoeña. Every weekend, new activities are organized to make Summerfaction the best. The month-long acoustic band challenge, “Strings Beat the Heat“, kicks off this weekend as bands will be playing their best audition sets nightly for Friday and Saturday. For Sunday, TDM fills our afternoons with Guilty Pleasures, 3-day dessert fair for Saturday and Sunday. One of the special persons in my life is my mom. She is the only woman in this world who is willing to give up everything just to see me happy. She always makes sure that my needs are satisfied first before hers. My mother is perfectly amazing! For me, she is a super woman. I bet you, too, consider your mother as a hero in your life.

There are many things that only mothers can do. They have this ability to do things in their own ways. They offer unconditional love to their families. They provide support, show care and share love without ifs and buts. Mothers can carry the worlds of their children without complaining. They are absolutely the best. With all their efforts and sacrifices, I believe that they deserve the best things in this world. We must make them happy every single day, not only during their birthdays or other special occasions. However, this doesn't mean that we will not do anything for Mother's Day 2013. It's time to prepare something great that can make our moms happy. Mankind has affected the planet like no other species have. The rise of our civilization has a very strong impact on our environment and the life of other organisms. This impact is not dying down but is in fact rising and becoming more intense with each passing year. Our societies have needs that require enormous amounts of resources and our cities are growing at a pace that is taking up the land on an ever increasing rate.

The march of civilization is eating up nature and it comes at a price. Progress is threatening the natural habitats of living organisms everywhere. Plants are now facing multiple challenges and some species have even become extinct. This is where plant conservation comes in.

Plants and Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the term applied to the richness of life in natural habitats. It ranges from the smallest microorganism in the soil of the tropical rainforest, to the tallest trees there that took hundreds of years to grow. Plants play a vital role in the biodiversity of the planet. They are the main food source for most animal species and they produce oxygen which is vital to animals.

Future Use- There is no way of knowing what our descendants would be able to come up with. They might be able to create some amazing cure-it-all drug from a plant that can only be found in a tropical rainforest. For the Sake of Future Generations- Future generations of humans also deserve the chance to experience the biodiversity of plant and animal life. Just as we and our ancestors experienced it we should be able to get the same thing out of it.

Now you know why plant conservation is just as important as the conservation of animal species. In some ways it is even more urgent because if we fail to conserve most plant life today, efforts to help endangered animal species would just go to waste. Kalasag 2012 and The Memories

When we enjoy the things we're doing, we barely notice the time. Who would have thought that one year has already lapsed since the day I decided to make big changes in my life? I can still remember the day when I finally got hold of my Bachelor's Degree in Management Accounting. March 24, 2012 - the day of my graduation at Ateneo de Davao University. It was, indeed, A New Beginning.

The days following the graduation were not easy. There was a point where I needed to walk away from some of the things that used to matter in my life. Yes, it included my past relationship. One morning, I woke up and saw that things were already drifting apart between the two of us. No matter how much we tried to save the relationship, we just can't. Worse, we needed to completely depart from each other. We can't even be friends. At first, it wasn't easy but as weeks pass by, I started to realize that the break up was the second best thing that ever happened in my Summer 2013 (The first, making my parents proud for finishing my degree). Right now, I am happiest. I learned that Looking Back to Move Forward is important.

There were also many events that took place during last year's summer season. One of those is having the courage to enroll in Ateneo de Davao College of Law. As what I've always said, it was my father's decision for me to take up law. I always wanted to make him proud of me so I said "yes" despite the fact that I was hesitant. I guess parents really know what is best for their children because as of the moment, I am enjoying law school. It may be a tough world to be in but it is something that I love. Now that I'm loving the study of law, all I ever want is to become a lawyer someday. I will do it, not only for my dad, but most importantly, for myself.

So, why am I saying all these? I can't help but reminisce with what happened last year after receiving my copy of Kalasag 2012 - Ateneo de Davao University's year book.

When I claimed my copy at the Kalasag office, I suddenly felt proud of myself. As what I've said earlier, I can't believe that it's BEEN ONE YEAR. Wow! How fast? How did I do it? One year ago, I said to myself that I'm going to become better... and yes, I can say that I am a better version of Algene. I believe that one day, I'm going to become the best version of me.

Hinto. Handa. Hayo. Stop. Prepare. Go. The theme for the Kalasag 2012 reminds me to never forget the importance of knowing when to stop, preparing for the drive and finally going for the things that I love. The colors of my life are red, yellow and green.

Masayahin, mapagmahal, maalaga - ito ang mga salitang maglalarawan kay Algene. Lagi siyang may dalang kaligayahan sa mga taong nakapaligid sa kanya. Gusto niya na lahat ay masaya. Siya rin ay isang matulungin na kaibigan at masunuring anak. Tunay na maasahan kahit anuman ang mangyari, 'yan si Algene.

The description in my year book was written by my cousin. Since Kalasag (Official Yearbook of the school) uses the Filipino language, I asked my cousin to prepare the write up for me.

If there is one thing that I am truly grateful of in my life, it is having an opportunity to show my parents how much I love them. I hope and pray that I may receive another yearbook someday. Let it be from Ateneo College of Law.

These are some of the pages of the photo book I ordered. I made sure that the out of the country tips of my parents are included. It was on 2004 when they visited China and Hongkong. On 2007, we went to Singapore together. There were also wedding photos of my parents taken on the year 1988. Nothing feels great than knowing that they are happily married. In turn, we have a happy family.

Excited for the Summer Parties

Summer is the perfect season for parties, get-togethers and events. It is the time of the year when organizing events is easy considering the fact that Mr. Sun is always around. There will be no problems about the weather condition. Thus, outdoor parties are made possible. Aside from this, it's also easy to invite people during summer. The reason behind this is because they have more extra time allotted to engage in leisure activities Their minds are conditioned to enjoy quality time with their friends, family members and new acquaintances.

I have been receiving many invites from my friends for their summer parties. Just recently, I attended an amazing 1st birthday celebration of my close friend's daughter. Last week, a law school friend sent an invitation for her first baby shower. Then, yesterday, my blogger friends and I went to Samal Island for a quick but lovely beach outing. We really enjoyed our stay at Paradise Beach Resort. There are also countless upcoming blog events for weeks to come. And yes, I am absolutely excited for this year's summer. These are just some of the proofs that many people plan or organize their events during the summer season.

Every party has different themes. The hosts decide what theme to use in their events based on the "reason" of the celebration and "guests" to be invited. These two things are considered well in order to choose the perfect theme for the summer party. If you are planning to organize your own gathering, then make sure to check the details of your plan. It is important to create a list of all the to-do's so you will not get lost with the preparations. For example, you should create a master list of people you want to attend your event. You can also gather the things to use for the party. What you can do is check the huge range of quality chairs and tables to be used for your event. "I am not a runner." This is what I used to tell myself before. Everytime my friends would invite me to join fun run events, all I did was to give them excuses why I couldn't be with them. Whenever they ask me to enroll for gym classes, I would say I have no time for it. To be honest, I looked at running as a tiresome activity for the past few years. I failed to see all the good things that it can give to everyone doing it. Then one day, I woke up and realized that there were major changes in my life. Among them was the fact that I gained so much weight. Because of this, there were times when I feel less confident with myself. So, I realized that it's time...

It's time for me to shape up, again. It's time for me to let go of all the excuses I used to make. It's time for me to get fit by running. Together with the major transition is my life is that now, I am a runner. Well, not the type of runner who signs up for the latest fun run event in the community or the one who hits the gym regularly. I consider myself as a runner who is still at the starting line. Eventually, I will make it to the finish line. And when I do, I will still continue running because it does not only make me fit but it also allows me to feel ultimate happiness.

I used to say that I have no time to do it. I always find the cases I needed to read and the provisions I needed to understand as more important than running. I used to believe that it was just a waste of my time. But now, everything have changed. Even at home, I make sure that I run. Thanks to the treadmill! Since running outdoors is better, I also find time to jog around our little subdivision. This way, I can get a chance to appreciate the environment and feel good for myself.

The last fun run I attended was the Run for Pablo last February 9, 2013. It was organized by one of the fraternities and sororities at Ateneo de Davao College of Law. What is nice about the said event was that it was a run for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Pablo. I will never forget how great one of my February mornings went because of the Fun Run. Thank you, Conflict of Laws 2013 for the amazing experience.

Another running activity that I consider as very important is the Lakas Atenista scav hunt activity. I was an applicant of the said law school organization then. As part of the recruitment process, our batch needed to undergo a scavenger's hunt. We were grouped into four. Unfortunately, our team did not win. Nonetheless, we still felt happy because the activity allowed us to become closer to each other.

By the way, I wore the wrong shoes during the scav hunt. As a result, I found it hard to run from one station to another. After the event, I realized that shoes play an important role in running. Everyone should learn what type of shoes to use in a particular running event.

No one said it will be easy. However, I believe that I can get there. I can reach the finish line. I will get better at running. I will keep on running because it makes me happy. I've never been so motivated and inspired my entire life than I am now. It's amazing how things have changed!

Do you know what I'm thinking of right at this moment? I want to get a new pair of shoes. I think it will make me feel more motivated. I want something to boost my run.

It Takes a Man and a Woman Movie Quotes

The first Davao Bloggers movie night was a success. We watched "It Takes a Man and a Woman" starring two of the brightest actors in the showbiz industry - John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo. They played the characters of the sought-after bachelor Miggy Montenegro and the crazy-in-love woman Adelaida Magtalas. The movie is the third installment in the series of the romantic comedy films about the Miggy-Laida love story.

The first installment was released last 2008 entitled "A Very Special Love". After its box office success, the second film was immediately made available the following year. Same with "A Very Special Love", "You Changed My Life" also became successful. Everyone fell in love with the characters of the said movie sequel. All of a sudden, people started talking about how kilig the relationship of Miggy Montegro and Laida Magtalas is. Aside from the super kilig moments, there are also great lessons that viewers can get from the movies.

Now, after four years, Star Cinema and Viva Films proudly produced the third movie "It Takes a Man and a Woman". This time, there are new changes in the characters of the film. The avid fans of the Miggy-Laida love story will really feel happy with the third film. There are so many things to expect from this film. For me, it is highly recommended. In fact, I find it the best among the three movies.

*SPOILER ALERT* Do not read the rest of this post if you haven't watched the movie yet. I'm a spoiler. Lol

In "It Takes a Man and a Woman," Miggy and Laida are no longer together. Somewhere along the way, they parted ways. They broke up when Laida saw Miggy kissing Belle (the third party in the story.) Feeling betrayed and hurt, she decided to go back to New York and worked in a magazine firm. After two years, she returned to the Philippines to help Montenegro Corporation in closing a deal with the big magazine firm in NYC. Laida claimed that her old self is gone and it's "Laida version 2.0" who will face everyone she ran away from. She worked again with Miggy and then, everything started to change. She realized that she wasn't really over the only man she loved. Eventually, they ended up fixing everything. In the last part of the film, they got married.

Basically, the moral of the film is forgiveness. It teaches everyone that to forgive is to completely let go of what happened in the past. It reminds each of us to always choose forgiveness if we want to become fully happy. Sometimes, people will hurt us and cause so much pain in our hearts. It's okay to hate them for a while but we need to remember that forgiveness is the key to a happy life. Let us forget and forgive. Then, our lives will become better.

2013’s Most Searched Luxury Fashion Labels

According to recent research conducted by the Digital Luxury Group, Michael Kors came out on top as the most searched online boutique brand in America. The data was taken from more than 31 million searches from January to June 2012. The biggest search engines were used to determine the outcome including Google and Bing.

From their results they found that ready-to-wear fashion lines and handbags from were the most popular searches worldwide which appeal to the mass markets. Handbags and purses were found to be most desired in China which made up around 50% of all searches for the luxury items.

The study found that the top five most searched US luxury fashion brands worldwide in 2013 are Michael Kors, followed by Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Vera Wang. Although these brands are highly established names in the west and America, US luxury fashion brands lagged behind European labels in searches conducted by Brazil, China, Russia and India, with European lines gaining 23% more searches. However, Calvin Klein has avoided low search results in Brazil thanks to more than ten years of operations in Brazil. This long standing position in the market has led Brazil to be the number one international buyers of Calvin Klein outside of America.

China became the largest group of luxury consumers in the world in 2012, overtaking America for the first time, with an average family spending an average of 11,000 euro’s to Europe, Singapore and Hong Kong. A study conducted by Bain and Co found that Chinese shoppers bought 60% of luxury goods abroad, with an estimated $7.2 billion spent during the Chinese New Year alone.

So which brands do Chinese buyers most favour? Data from the World Luxury Index – ranking and analysis of the most searched brands within the luxury industry – found that the top three most search for luxury fashion brands in China in 2013 are Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Hermes Paris. These three iconic western brands all have a rich heritage and highly recognisable logos and branding. Western celebrities and culture have fuelled such brands to become highly desirable for this Chinese market. Louis Vuitton was also named the world’s most valuable luxury brand in 2012 for the seventh year in a row by Millward Brown. The French fashion giant is now worth approximately £25.9 billion. The luxury brand has managed to steer away from niche markets and into the mass markets by introducing ready-to-wear clothing under the artistic direction of the relatively young designer, Marc Jacobs.

Forecasts suggest that male Chinese buyers will continue to dominate overall sales. However these sales are suggested to shift away from the upper classes and into the emerging upper middle classes with an average salary of around $89,000. This demographic has a keen interest in more individual luxury segments such as leather goods, fashion and personal accessories.

In the hopes of gaining more interest in China, many recognisable American stores along Madison Square Avenue, Fifth Avenue and other areas have taken part in the 2013 Chinese New Year, the year of the water snake, with fitting themes, displays and products. This strategic tailoring towards the Chinese market has been implemented since 2011 and is set to last as China continues to dominate the luxury markets. However, with more European designers emerging every year such as Serge Denimes and Zoe Lee, America will have to work hard in order to compete against the long standing heritage of European fashion.

It's Easter Sunday. It's time for new beginnings. Earlier this afternoon, I got a visit from a good friend of mine. From our conversation, I learned that she got her heart broken again. To ease her pain, I decided to write two open letters for her and the guy who broke his promises. May these pieces allow her to completely let go of the past and to face the future full of courage. Sometimes, new beginnings are disguised as painful endings.

To the special woman who got her heart broken, this is for you. Please remember that I love you. There are many people in this world who deeply and sincerely care for you. Never forget that others are willing to give up everything they have just to see you smile. As what I always say, you deserve nothing but the best in this world. Do not let anyone or anything bring you down.

Seeing you cry this afternoon broke my heart. I know it wasn't easy for you to admit that you and your "ideal guy" have finally parted ways. Worse, it was his choice and not yours. For sure, you feel like the world has turned its back on you. You are probably thinking of what you have done wrong to deserve all these.

You have always thought that it was your fault. But, have you tried stepping back from the whole situation and look at it in a bigger picture? It was him who left you hanging with no valid reasons at all. You did nothing wrong. Well, only you believed in what he said that he has feelings for you. You also believed that all his sweet actions speak of his "lovely feelings." After what he did earlier, I don't think he still has this intention of having you in his life anymore. No man, in his right mind, would do that do a girl whom he wants to be with. So, please let go of him and move on.

You deserve better. Do not hold on to someone who have this attitude of dropping you anytime he wants and picking you up when you're almost over him. Then, the same cycle happens again. He's back. Both of you will be okay for the mean time and suddenly, he's gone. Isn't that a crazy and shitty situation? You don't deserve that kind of set up. You deserve something better.

Sorry for being brutally honest. I just want to take you out of this mess. It hurts to see you cry for someone who is not worth it. You are in deep pain right now but someday, your heart will heal. You will forget about the person and eventually, you will thank God for bringing you away from him. There are endless possibilities for you, my dear friend. Do not settle for anything less.

Do not depend on a man to make you happy. Look around you, there are so many persons and things capable of bringing happiness into your life. Having a boyfriend or a pseudo-boyfriend does not mean ultimate happiness especially if the relationship involves a "one sided love."

One day, someone will come into your life who will sweep you off your feet. He is the man who will show you why all your past relationships with the wrong persons didn't work. He will remind you of your worth as a woman. Do not rush. You are still young. I believe that he will find you at the right time. Please be patient.

We have so many dreams and I suggest that we focus on making them come true. The pain in your heart will be gone soon. As of the moment, start counting all the beautiful things and lovely persons in your life. Be thankful that you have them.

The best way to get over a heartbreaking situation is to become a better version of yourself. Let go of all the tension. Think of happy thoughts. Learn how to love yourself more. Then, without you noticing it, everything in your life will change. The right man will come at the right time.

To the guy who broke her heart. You must be celebrating right now. How does it feel to make someone fall in love with you only to leave her in the end? I know I'm not in the position to say anything for I'm not the person whom you've caused so much pain. Sorry to disappoint you but I will say my piece because you hurt one of the persons close to me.

How could you break her heart over and over again? What have she done for her to deserve all those rude treatments from you? Where did your manners go? Or do you even have one? I couldn't believe that you said all those hurtful things. Why?

No matter what your reasons are, what you did to her was inexcusable. But, I still believe that she needs to forgive your wrongful act even if you have not asked for forgiveness. That is the only way for her to move on. She can only let go of her feelings once she releases all the painful memories in her heart.

While she's in the process of getting over you, do me a favor. Please get lost. Do not show up again. Stop sending her messages or calling her on the phone. Give her time to completely forget you. After all you've done, you must learn how to distant yourself. Do not show up again. Ever.

Despite what you've done, she still considers you as a good person. See? She doesn't even realize that you are a heartless beast. She doesn't have an idea what to do in case you'll come back again. Well, I know I can't do anything about it because the final decision will always come from her. I just wish that you are never coming back again.

Wherever you are right now, I still wish you the best. Karma is a bitch. Whatever goes around comes around. Remember that.

Why We Broke Up: An Inspiration to Move On

The first book I've read for this year is Daniel Handler's Why We Broke Up. This novel is all about Min Green and Ed Slaterton who broke up when they least expected it. After they parted ways, Min sent a box to her ex-boyfriend containing all the things they collected during the course of their relationship. Together with the old stuff was a letter explaining the different reasons why they broke up. Each item inside the box has its own story of love, happiness and pain. Basically, the whole book revolved around how they both shared great days together and how those happy days ended.

To be honest, the book was boring. I was expecting more from it especially when I learned that it became one of the bestselling novel last year. I'm not saying that it is bad. In fact, I would recommend this novel to every girl who is currently in the process of healing her broken heart. The letter of Min will remind you to let go of the past and to continue moving on with your life. Min will encourage you not to depend on other man for your happiness. She will inspire you to gather all the strength left in your system after the break up.

The best thing about Why We Broke Up is its lessons about moving on. Min's act of sending their collections to Ed means completely ending their relationship. I believe that it wasn't a sign of bitterness but instead, a strong move to finally let go. The caption in every illustration will always end with "...and that's why we broke up."

When I finished reading the novel, I realized that ending my relationship with my ex last year was, indeed, a good move. In fact, I could even write my own Why We Broke Up novel but I would not because no one will probably read it. This book is a complete eye-opener. Just when girls thought that breaking up with their boyfriends is the end of the world, Min's character would remind them of why they deserve better.

What Starbucks Taught Me Today

One of the coffee shops that I keep coming back in the city is Starbucks SM Annex. It is my most favorite store in Davao because of everything inside the said branch. First of all, I enjoy the White Chocolate Mocha they serve for me. Whenever I enter Starbucks, I no longer need to tell them my order because they already know what I want. During the days when I feel like getting another type of beverage, I make sure to inform them ahead of time. Second, I love the whole SB crew. They are sweet and nice, not only to regular customers like me, but also to their first time visitors. Their friendliness is overwhelming. Third, I like the long table where I always sit when I'm at the said branch. It's the most comfortable seat for me! I feel like I can do anything when I'm seated on my favorite place. Lastly, their Wifi connection is amazing. Thus, I can work online and post updates on my blog easily. They also have outlets everywhere. For someone like me who brings my gadgets all the time, finding outlets easily is heaven.

Last week, Ms. Julie of Starbucks invited me to attend the Starbucks Coffee Seminar Series. Without hesitations, I said yes. After all, I am The Coffee Chic and I'm interested to learn more about coffee.

It's a Monday but I woke up early to attend the seminar with the topic "Coffee Brewing at Home and Coffee Tasting Basics." It was hosted by Ms. Mai, the district coffee master in the city. She is a know-it-all when it comes to coffee and Starbucks. The best thing she said during the quick seminar was "This is not just a job for me. It is my passion." From her words, I can see where the success of the brand is coming from. It is, certainly, from the people. Starbucks has great employees which sets them apart from the rest.

One of the questions raised during the event was, "What is the significance of Starbucks' logo?" To be honest, I also wanted to ask the same question. I have always been curious about that "girl" I always see printed in my cups of coffee. So, anyway, the answer is simple.

Ms. Mai said that the "siren" in the logo signifies the mermaid who sings to attract and call the sailors. The three founder of Starbucks named their brand from the novel Moby Dick's character Starbuck, who is a sailor. According to them, the siren is calling Starbuck as he sails. Just like the siren, Starbucks is also calling everyone by giving them reasons to "keep coming back for more.

There are many things I learned from the seminar earlier. One of those is the correct way of storing coffee beans. I didn't know that placing the beans on the fridge is a big no-no. Instead, it should be placed in an opaque container in order to avoid its spoilage. Also, for a perfect taste of brewed coffee, the boiling water used must be set aside for five minutes first before adding it to the coffee.

The best way to enjoy your coffee is to close your eyes and smell its aroma. Allow coffee to take you to a place you've always wanted to go. Then, make sure to "slurp" as it brings great taste to your drink. The louder you slurp, the better!

From the seminar, I also learned the correct steps of brewing using the coffee press. I really enjoyed the medium house blended coffee prepared during the quick meeting. I loved it more when Ms. Julie offered the guilt-free indulgence! Perfect brewed coffee + Irresistible sweet treat = Satisfaction!

To sum it all up, I really enjoyed the seminar conducted by Starbucks. I didn't only learn new things but I also met some new friends namely Joy, Jessie, Cobey and Noel. Meeting new people who share the same interest with me is priceless! It is "happiness".

And of course, the cutest guy I met earlier is no other than baby Liam! Isn't he lovely? It was my first time to see him and I was glad that he giggled everytime I talk to him. Ohhh, this little one is completely adorable!

Thank you Ms. Mai and Ms. Julie for inviting me! Thank you for sharing the experience with me and the rest of the people who attended the seminar. Now, I can say that I am quite knowledgeable about the "important details" of coffee. Plus, I got a new name tag sticker to add in my iPad cover!

What I Love About A Moment in Time (Movie Review with Quotes)

Since law school is very demanding, I and my classmates were not able to watch the movies we've been wanting to see since last week. We were preoccupied with the exams and recitations for our classes. However, this afternoon, we finally found some time to treat ourselves. After our jaw-breaking and mind-cracking examination in Obligations and Contracts, we directly headed to SM Annex for our lunch. Then, we waited for 2:30PM so we can see one of the latest films produced by Star Cinema - A Moment in Time.

Coco Martin and Julia Montes are the main stars for this romantic movie. The story is about a young couple who fell in love at the right time but hatred brought them apart. They were happy until they discovered a secret which destroyed their relationship. It was really sad to see them part ways especially when they had a perfect love for each other. But towards the end of the movie, they were reunited. It must be fate that brought them back together.

What I love about this film is its moral story about love and hatred. It teaches everyone to leave all the negative things in the past and embrace the new ones in the present and those to come in the future. The movie reminds us of how hatred can make us greatly unhappy and how it can make us feel great when we let them go. Sometimes, we are placed in a situation where choosing hatred is so much better than choosing love. In times like these, we must give ourselves some time to think well of what to do. We may be hurt from our past experiences but that doesn't mean that we can let hatred make us unhappy for the rest of our lives. For me, choosing love over hatred, is always the right thing to do.
