Cue the “back in time” music….

I was working with a new client today, and she was telling me how she liked my name The Color Psychic. Then she asked me a question that I don’t often hear: how did I come to be The Color Psychic. The story still gives me goosebumps, so I decided to share it with you… I had recently begun doing in-home color appointments for Belcaro Paint. I was at the house of a young professional who told me that she wanted her whole house to be light neutrals. As I went from room to room picking the paint colors, I came to one room that made me stumble. As I was looking around her study, I kept seeing a purple color on the walls. I told myself that she wanted neutrals, and the rich purple that I kept seeing was NOT neutral. I finished selecting the colors and presented them to her. At the end of the appointment I asked her what she thought. She said, “You did exactly what I asked you to do, and I love all the colors. But I have to admit, I was secretly hoping for more of a color in the study.” I flipped to the purple color on my fan deck that corresponded to what I had seen on her walls. “Is this what you had in mind?” I asked. “That is EXACTLY what I wanted!” … and The Color Psychic was born!

Having a psychic encounter…

Have you ever wondered, “How does it all work? How does she do it?” Not in regards to Mary Poppins (although that would be fun to know!), but me, Jennifer Comfort? Once more, a story…

When I come to your house, I like to talk to you and have you give me a tour of your home. You may think the tour is only for the purpose of showing me what we are working on, which it is, but it also has a SECRET value. What? A secret? What is this girl talking about?!

My color/design recommendations are based mainly on your personality. By walking and talking together, I am learning about who you are and what you like. So I look at what you are showing me, but I also listen to what you are saying – and what you are not saying.

Once the meet and greet is out of the way, I walk back through the rooms and decide what would look best in each – all while channeling my inner “you.” I imagine the color and design that will make you the happiest and most comfortable in each space.

Then I show you and see what you think. I pride myself in only being tied to making you insanely happy – if that means working with the orange shag rug you love and the lime green couch you adore – consider them worked in! Once you are happy with everything, my work is done.

If we are painting, I recommend that you buy wet paint samples and put them on the wall to make sure that you like everything once you see it on a larger scale. Then we move forward!

So there it is in a nutshell… If I have worked with you in the past, you know all about the “psychic encounter.” If not, call me so that we can give it a go!

What am I doing?

When I come to your house to pick paint colors, I talk to you for a few minutes and then ask you to leave me alone. Do you ever wonder what I am doing? When I talk to you during our initial tour, I am getting a sense of who you are and what you like. Seeing the rooms is important, but so is listening to you speak about each space. And I am not necessarily listening for colors that you name, but more of the words that you use to describe things, items that seem to really resonate with you and your own personal energy. Then I ask you to leave, and I walk back through the rooms again imagining what I would like to see if I were you. Often, the colors appear on the wall in front of me. Then I just have to find the matching color in my fan deck. It helps me to be alone so that I can tune into everything without being interrupted. Not very scientific, but very successful! One of the biggest compliments that I can receive is that visitors don’t notice that the house has been painted. The colors blend so perfectly with everything that instead of the home feeling changed, it just feels completed. Beautiful.
