Let me give you a little update, and then I'll get to my regularly scheduled (lol) post! Both boys repeated Kindergarten this year. That has been a really good decision. They're both starting to read and write pretty well now. Twin A is really getting interested in reading now. It's neat when you finally see it click into place. I saw it happen last week. He's reading as much as he can now. He just can't get enough. Twin B is reading well too, but he usually gets books on library day that are too advanced for him to read by himself. And now for my planned post!

Kids are truly amazing. They're so perceptive and intuitive. They wear their hearts on their sleeves. They trust and love so easily. Twin B especially has said some really insightful things recently. How is it that we lose so much of this as we become adults? Even with some behavioral problems with Twin B, both of my kids are so loving and compassionate. I hate to see them lose this as they grow up. It's a shame we get jaded by what life throws at us. I wish we all were so open and honest as we were when we were children.

Sparring

The boys started Taekwondo in March or April. They love it! The place they take lessons was having a sale of 15% off all gear in July, so I went ahead and got all of their sparring gear. Yesterday on the way to class they were complaining that all they ever got to wear was the hand and foot gear. I told them that wouldn't always be the case. Lo and behold, we got to class yesterday and they were told to put on all of their sparring gear. They couldn't have been more excited! I think the parents had more fun watching these little kids spar than the kids had actually sparring. I must say it looked a lot more like brawling to me, but they at least bowed to each other and shook hands before and after. On the plus side, the boys were extra worn out after last night's lesson! I had no trouble at all getting them to go to bed!

We're finally starting to have cooler temps here, so I'm hoping we can do something outside this weekend. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Back to School

The boys had a fabulous time at summer camp this summer. They went to an outdoor day camp at a lake. They went swimming every day and did crafts, paddle boating, hiking, football...all kinds of stuff. The last day of camp was about a week and a half before school started. My mom kept them for me last week, and I took off work Monday through Wednesday this week to be with them. We had so much fun. We went to the pool every day, busted out the sidewalk chalk, took a walk on the one day it wasn't a million degrees outside, and just generally lazed around having a good time. We were supposed to take a vacation this summer, but I broke my ankle in May. I'm finally walking again, but I just wasn't getting around well enough to take them on a vacation. They took it pretty well. I'm sure we'll find somewhere to go for Spring Break or next summer.

Yesterday was the first day of school. The boys are doing Round 2 of Kindergarten. They were surprisingly not upset about it. I was a little worried about that. I know they need this socially and academically. They both seemed to have a good first day. I hope school will go much smoother this year for them. They had a really tough time last year.

I also have a funny story for your Friday! A while back we were in the car going somewhere and I looked in the rear view mirror to see Twin B licking his armpit! Yes, you read that right...he was licking his armpit. I told him he shouldn't do that because it gets sweaty and dirty and nasty and it's just gross!!! A few days later we were in the car again and Twin B sniffs then says "Whew! For a second it smelled like armpit in here!" Twin A promptly fires back with "And that's why you shouldn't lick your armpit!"

So, did you guys have a fun summer? Got the kiddos back in school? Frankly, I'm glad to be back in the routine!

Snow White and the 2 Dwarfs?

The boys got to dress up as fairy tale characters today for school. Since I'm not very crafty or creative, I drew whiskers on them with eyeliner and colored the tips of their noses and sent them both as the Big Bad Wolf. On the way to school, Twin B told me he thought everyone where I work should dress up as fairy tale characters today too. I asked him who he thought I should dress up as. He thought about it for a while and finally said he thought I looked like Snow White (awwww, he is going to be a charmer). Then he said "Mommy, you'll always be Snow White and we'll always be your 2 drawfs." Isn't he just the sweetest little thing?

First Visit from the Tooth Fairy

Twin B lost his first tooth yesterday! He was so excited to see what the tooth fairy would leave him. Twin A got a little mopey about NOT having a loose tooth yet. I know Twin B had the tooth (wrapped in a little bit of plastic wrap) in his pocket when we got home, but he somehow managed to lose it before bedtime. I assured him the tooth fairy would still visit. This morning I could hear his shrieks of delight as he screamed at his brother that the tooth fairy left him a dollar! He'll probably take to busting his teeth out with a hammer now. The tooth fairy is going to have to stock up on dollar bills with two sets of teeth on their way out!

Being in Love

Last night when I was putting the boys to bed Twin A asked me if I was in love with daddy. I told him that I wasn't in love with him anymore, but that I used to be in love with daddy. I was trying to prepare myself for the whole "how come you and daddy aren't married" conversation. That wasn't what he was getting at at all! He asked me who I was in love with, and I told him I wasn't in love with anyone but him and his brother. He asked me if I have a boyfriend, and I told him that I didn't have a boyfriend right now. He then tells me I need to get a boyfriend. I ask him why and he says...SO YOU CAN HAVE ANOTHER BABY! I guess every kid wants a little brother or sister at some point, and Twin A is ready for me to have a baby. Sorry kiddo...you two are it!

@ the Doctor's Office

Yesterday was a snow day for the kids. It snowed a tiny bit overnight so the schools were closed. The roads were fine, so I decided to go get an overdue allergy shot. Of course the boys are talking too loudly in the waiting room but were otherwise pretty good. Twin A says he needs to use the restroom so I point it out to him. After he goes in I tell him to shut the door, but he doesn't hear me so I get up and shut the door. When he comes out he asks me if I shut the door. I tell him I did because we shouldn't use the bathroom with the door open. He looks at me and says "Mommy, I just pulled my penis out!" There were a few people in the waiting room and I thought this one guy was going to fall out of his chair from laughing. I can't help but laugh too. I didn't bother to tell him that was the whole reason I wanted him to shut the door in the first place! I'm looking forward to the days the guys get some modesty...or does that ever happen to the male species?!?

These were taken Saturday at the Holiday parade and State Capitol lighting ceremony. The kids had fun watching the parade. They also did a few crafts and had free cookies and hot chocolate. It was really cold, and they were both starting to get a little cranky and impatient for the lighting ceremony. After the lights were turned on on the Capitol building there was a fireworks show. This was the first time the boys have seen a live fireworks show. They were in awe! They both said all the waiting and freezing was worth it to see the fireworks. I wish I'd been able to get some better pictures of them in and around the Capitol, but they don't like to stand still too long for me :D!

What are you and your families doing for the holidays? We usually get up to see what Santa brought the boys. We'll play for a little while then get cleaned up and go to my parents' house for brunch and more presents for the boys. On the way home in the car, Twin A said "Why can't we just get an axe and cut down our own?"

On the way home the other day Twin B was looking out the car window at the moon and said "Mommy, I see a fingernail in the sky."

Tonight we went over to a friend's. Just as we pulled up outside her place, Twin A got a bloody nose. After we had been inside for a few minutes I noticed he wasn't holding tissue up to his nose anymore. I asked him if it had quit bleeding. He said "I think so. I can stick my finger up there and check if you want me to."

The Brave Cowboys

Twin B is on the left and Twin A is on the right. They couldn't wear their Halloween costumes to school today, so the school district found a way around it. Today the kids dressed up as their favorite book characters. Twin B decided early on that he was going to dress up as The Brave Cowboy. Twin A couldn't decide who he wanted to dress up as and eventually decided on The Brave Cowboy as well. I wish the pics were better. I took them with my phone, so they quality is very poor. Twin A is really blurry in the top pic, but Twin B's pose was priceless so I had to post it!

It has rained so much here lately. Lots of areas are flooded today and it's still raining. I probably won't be taking the guys trick or treating tomorrow, but several churches nearby are having trunk or treat, so we may go trunk or treating again! The boys had so much fun. They had a chili cookoff and lots of activities for kids inside the church. Outside, people decorated the trunks of their cars and handed out candy in the parking lot. They raked in the candy. A good time was had by all. I got to visit with adults which is really nice sometimes, and the kids got to run around and play with all of the other kids. The best part though was that Sunday morning they slept until 7:30!!! Usually they're up a good hour before that.

School...so far

This is for Robin! You asked for it...Kindergarten has been a little frustrating to say the least. I requested that both boys be held back in Pre-K. I just didn't feel like they were ready for Kindergarten. Apparently if a student is deemed ready for Kindergarten in the Little Rock School District, he can't be held back by a parent. Strange. Now that they're in Kindergarten they're both struggling a little. Twin A, who I've never had any major behavior issues with all of a sudden became a "bad" kid (at least I felt he had been given that label by his teacher). His teacher called me 2 or 3 times in the first 2 weeks of school. Twin B was misbehaving a lot too. I was hoping that maybe they just needed time to adjust to the more rigid structure of Kindergarten. In Pre-K they pretty much got to play all day, and now they're expected to sit still for long periods of time. No such luck. Both boys were having trouble sitting still and focusing long enough to get any of their work done. They can identify only a few letters and numbers. Both teachers were taken aback when I told them I requested they be held back. Clearly they aren't ready for Kindergarten. I guess I could have pushed the issue, but I didn't. If they had been full term babies, they would have been born after the cutoff date and would be in Pre-K this year. After visiting with both teachers and their pediatrician, both boys have been diagnosed with ADHD. I really have mixed feelings about this. I always kind of thought ADHD was just a bogus diagnosis. I just thought it was kids being kids. I struggled a lot about whether to medicate them or not. I eventually decided to go with the medicine. It seems to have made quite a difference at school. I still feel like they're behind most of their classmates though. Maybe their teachers this year will agree with me that they're not ready to advance to first grade. I know there's a lot of time until the end of the school year and maybe they'll catch up. At the very least, maybe with the ADHD diagnosis, their teachers won't label them as "bad" and will work a little harder with them instead of writing them off. They've only been on the meds for about 2 weeks, so hopefully I'll keep seeing improvements.

That's our school year so far in a nutshell!

Kindergarten Pics

I finally got pics! Twin B was a little apprehensive. He even said on the way to school yesterday that he hoped he didn't cry. He didn't! Yay! Twin A slipped on some wet grass getting out of the car, but he didn't do any major damage. He was a little upset, but was fine by the time we got into the school. We were running late yesterday, so I didn't get pics of their first day, and today it was raining so I didn't get any pics either (I wanted to take them outside). So, maybe tomorrow will be the day. They'll be wearing their school t-shirts tomorrow anyway, so maybe that's the day I was meant to take pics! I'm still having a hard time believing they're in Kindergarten and 5 years old!!! I'm sure in no time at all I'll be bemoaning the fact that they're leaving me for college. I'll definitely need plenty of kleenex on hand for that day.

How did everyone else's back to school routine go?

Graduates

The top picture was taken Wednesday at the boys' Pre-K graduation. It was raining cats and dogs, so of course I took my umbrella in with me. After we all got our haircuts and it was time to go, my umbrella was gone. I couldn't believe someone would steal an umbrella! There was another one there, but I guess mine was better. Is this a sign of the poor economy or are people just that low that they would steal someone else's umbrella?!?

Multiples Day at the Zoo

Yesterday was Multiples Day at the zoo. We had a lot of fun, and there were twins and triplets everywhere! Here are some pics of the day. The first pic is a set of twins whose parents I'm trying to talk into an arranged marriage with my boys. Aren't they darling? The next two are pictures of us trying to get all the twins and triplets to sit for a group picture. As you can see, it was very sunny and my guys were trying to keep the sun out of their eyes!

BS Detector?

The other day we were leaving my parents' house and Twin B asked my dad where his dad was. My dad told him that his dad was dead. Then he asked him where his mom was, so my dad told him where she lived. The conversation progressed as follows:

Twin B: What's your mom's name?
Dad: Her name is Ruby. She's very sick.
Twin B: What's wrong with her?
Dad: Well, she's just very sick. She can't get around very well, she's going blind and she talks like this (mumbles incoherently)
Twin B: Okay, mommy, we can go now. Bye, G-Dad.
.
.
.
As we're driving away:

Twin B: G-Dad was just kidding. I bet his mom's name isn't Ruby and his dad probably isn't even dead.

I'm glad we weren't out of the neighborhood yet, because I laughed so hard I was in tears!

So, what's the funniest thing your kid has said lately?

Shoes

Shoes make me happy! I went to the shoe store yesterday to get some new sandals for spring and summer. Last time I went to this particular store I didn't see anything I liked for me but I did get two pair of sandals for the boys. This time I found lots of sandals I liked. Luckily for me it was buy one get one half off, so I got 4 pair of sandals! I'm just giddy about my new shoes. I felt like a little kid last night alternating between all of them. I think I wore each pair at some point during the night!

My Little Stuarts (pics as promised)

Today the boys went to school dressed as their favorite book character. I don't really have anything blog-worthy right now, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still alive and well! Most of my posting and blog reading has been done at work in the past, but BIG BROTHER is watching now :( so I don't get much time to post or read anymore. I will try to get some new pics up soon. This coming Friday the boys get to dress up as their favorite book character for school, so hopefully I'll have some cute pictures of them to post. I miss everyone!

5-5-5

I've been tagged by Alyse!
