Over the past weeks, I have been a bit busy working on too many projects, including a Social Network site for my dear Alma Mater, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in Cebu City.

The new social networking site, Josenian.com is intended for all Josenians in the world: students, alumni, teachers, admin and friends. The site's concept is just like Facebook, or mySpace - one can register and design his/her page with the available "widgets" that can be dragged into the profile page.

Once registered, you can have your own Blog page, your Discussion/Forum page, upload and store files, videos, display YouTube videos and music, add friends, send messages, chat, setup a common page for all your friends to update (ideal for students who need to have a collaborative online page for their thesis and homeworks).

The best thing is you can restrict who can view or write or comment on your pages (public, logged in users, friends, private).

The site is still in Beta, but one can already do a lot with its rich features. It is using the open platform Elgg, considered to be this year's best Social Networking platform.

It's been a while since the last update of this blog, which awfully goes back to February of this year. I got too busy working on my new blog at Bloggista.com, being my first self-hosted blog which is using the Wordpress CMS blogging platform.

Surprisingly, the great and mighty Google gave it a PR3 during its latest round of page rank updates. I started this blog way back in November of last year.

As of now, I am planning to feature different IT and Business Application products and services on this blog. Will also feature different IT Implementation and Consulting companies focusing on those Service Providers that are based in the Philippines. In short, this blog will be transformed into a reference site for those who are looking for tried and tested and reliable business application softwares, IT Solutions and IT providers.

I mentioned in my previous posts that my team is now currently rolling-out the last 3 plants with a total of 16 sites for a Client's Sales and Distribution system.

This system allows full integration of Sales Route Management (Route Calls, Booking activities), Order Processing (Order encoding, Stock allocation, credit checking & approval, Invoicing & delivery documents generation) and Financial Transactions (Accounts Receivables, Collections and daily closing activities) and Reporting (Reports, Portal). Quite an ambitious undertaking (implementing to over a dozen provincial plants with close to 80 sales offices - and integrate all these locations into one system using a Web Portal application).

These past 3 weeks, I have been hopping from one place to another to check out and oversee the Teams assigned, conduct Business Process trainings, monitor progress of sites' preparation activities. In a week, I was in Naga, then Tacloban & Tanauan (in Leyte) and then took a 6-hour bus ride to La Union - all in just 5 days.

With pride, the Team in Leyte was able to 'cutover' the Plant to the new system last week ( I was there with the Team when they worked over night and completed all transactions 10:00am the next day). But it was a succesful cutover - I should say, where local users were able to transition to the new system more easily.

Naga site encountered some few roadblocks, nonetheless, a smooth cutover was done last weekend. Both Teams (Naga & Leyte) will move on to the sales offices next week - starting on 04-February and should be finished by next weekend.

Since Wednesday, I'm in La Union to oversee the transition and cutover activities. Yesterday, the Team succesfully cutover the site to the new system as well. It feels good that the Teams were as reliable as ever, and this makes every Project Manager very proud!

It's almost done - and I will definitely find ways to give another challenging projects for these Teams.

The Consulting team that I was tasked to manage is composed of 12 young, energetic, talented, smart and beautiful men and ladies who are always up to take every challenge given to them. With these in my arsenal, we can readily take any Sales and Distribution and Finance projects with ease and finesse.

It's all over the new, Pepsi-Cola Philippines have scheduled their IPO tomorrow, 01-February 2008. The market is a bit ambivalent, but more have been giving good predictions of PCPPI's offering.

At over Php3 pesos a share, this one is a good buy. Another consideration for would-be buyers, the Government of Singapore Investment Corp (GIC) is buying 9.5% of Pepsi Philippines shares. See full details here.

All Stretched Out - Part 2 ( In Tacloban)

The following day (Wednesday, 16-Jan-2008) after returning from the trip in Naga City, I took a 5:30am flight bound for Tacloban City. Again, I have to make another round of Business Process presentation with my client's local Sales, Finance and Logistics group.

The rain had just stopped when the plane landed in Tacloban airport - which is a small airstrip right beside the shoreline of Tacloban City. After about 15 minutes drive, I was already in Mac Arthur Park Beach Resort, in Palo, Leyte where I will be staying for a night before flying back to Manila the next day. This was also the venue of the 6-day new Sales and Distribution system training conducted by one of our team of Consultants assigned in Eastern Visayas area.

I took some pictures with Uncle Douglas, whom I had a picture when I passed by Palo, Leyte 12 years ago. Gen. MacArthur looks snappy and clean this time. LOL.

I stayed in room 315, fronting the Seminar Hall and the swimming pool, and a few yards from the beach front. The room looked creepy, with all the ancient furnishings, and gloomy lighting. It has two big beds.

Good thing the Plant GM took us around that night. We had dinner at Stephanies, and I loved the food - fresh seafoods, shells and some sea weeds salad - yummy.

I had a feeling Gen. MacArthur would visit me that night - perhaps, yelling " Hey, wake up, I have returned!" Hahaha. I would probably prefer a visit from Uncle Douglas rather than a visit with Gen. Yamashita or some Japanese Officer or General who died in the area when the Americans bombed and beached this site during World War II.

All Stretched Out!

Monday, January 14, 2008 marked the start of a series of provincial trips to kick-off the new system training in the last 3 plants of a my Client.

The 3 teams of Consultants have been on these sites since the previous week. They were facilitating the preparation and cleanup of all required static data (customers, routes, products, A/R balances, sales volumes) to ensure completenes and accuracy.

Naga was my destination last Monday. With only one flight going in and out of Naga, you cannot afford to miss the early morning (6:30 am) flight. I had a party the previous night so 'sleep' was something that I didnt have that day. Just less than an hour flight, I was in Naga before 7:30 am. My task was to present the 'New Business Process' which normally takes 4-6 hours - depending on the number of questions and issues raised by the participants.

The training venue was held at the Regent Hotel, where I was also billeted. The room was spacious, with a huge matrimonial bed - good thing there was no 'strange feeling' felt inside the room.

That was my second time in Naga, the first one was more than 10years ago. Mt. Isarog is still there, fortunately, and all those old churches all around the city. Progress can now be noticed with the construction of new nightspots and restaurants. We had dinner at the Avenue - perhaps, the Greenbelt of Naga.

I managed to take some pictures as well. Well, one of the good or not so good things about Consulting job is you really have to travel a lot. This one was something I looked forward to.

The next day, I took the only flight to Manila at 8:30am.

I'm going back there next week - on 22-January.

Homestretch

Its the final lap, the 4th quarter, the last stretch of our systems implementation of this multinational company with Head Office in Manila and around a dozen Plants nationwide with more than a hundred installation sites.

We have finally come to the final leg of our project. The last 3 plants have to be rolled out by March, 2008. Things are getting more exciting, the Team is even more aggressive.

Trainings are started this week simultaneously. There's a site in Leyte, one in Naga City and the other in Northern Philippines.

We are targeting to Cutover and do the data migration next week, after a week-long training. All static data are now currently finalised and should be signed-off by end of the week.
