The Coupon Virgin

A coupon for justice: Ferguson releases the officer's name that shot Michael Brown.

2014-08-15T07:04:00.001-07:00

Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably heard of the events surrounding the Michael Brown shooting.

Brown was an 18-year-old teenager who was gunned down by local law enforcement in the suburbs of Ferguson, Missouri, more than three weeks ago.

The tension in Ferguson is high, and residents are uneasy and suspicious of the police department-- some even calling them rogue cops.

There have been riots and protests, and for fear of the officer's safety, they had refused to release his name, which should have been a part of public record.

The cyber group, Anonymous mistakenly identified another officer as being the shooter, so police officials released the real name of the shooter today.

His name is Darren Wilson, and officer of the force for about six years.

A coupon for redemption?

2014-06-20T15:05:00.001-07:00

If you could make a coupon, what would it be for?

We all know that coupons are to be redeem on certain products with minimum purchases. However, if you had a choice to make a coupon for anything in this world, what would it be?

Some may say "I'd make a coupon to end world hunger or begin world peace." Or something very diplomatic to that effect.

But in this very moment, I'd create a coupon that would redeem Jeremy Meeks. Mr. Meeks, who is one fine specimen of a man; chiseled cheeks, piercing eyes-- the works, has hard a hard life.

In fact, he's a harden criminal with several felonies under his belt. But just one look at the man makes you in awe of his beauty. I was told that life treats the young and beautiful kind, but there are always exceptions, I guess.

I'm not the only one who shares these sentiments. Just yesterday, Mr. Meeks garnered over 60,000 comments on the Stockton Police Department's official Facebook page.

Many women were baffled as to why he would commit to a life a crime given his drop dead gorgeous looks.

But environment shapes everything.

So what do you think?

And am I so wrong for fawning over this man who is so obviously dangerous?

Walgreens Updated Their Coupon Policy= Bad News

2014-05-29T20:50:00.001-07:00

General Guidelines

All coupons are to be presented to the cashier at the time of checkout.
Walgreens does not accept expired coupons. Coupons expire at 11:59 p.m. on the expiration date at the point of sale, whether in store or online.
Walgreens will not accept fraudulent or counterfeit coupons as determined by Walgreens.
Coupons and their face value cannot be exchanged for cash or gift cards.
Competitor's coupons shall not be accepted by Walgreens.
The number of manufacturer coupons, including Register Rewards®/Savings Rewards manufacturer coupons, shall not exceed the number of items in the transaction. The total value of the coupons shall not exceed the value of the transaction. Sales tax must be paid, if required by state law.
Walgreens will not accept coupons that exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is ever provided in exchange for any coupons.
Coupons that appear distorted, blurry or altered in any way shall not be accepted; all coupons must have a clear and scannable bar code.
For offers when multiple items are purchased and additional items are free (buy 1 get 1 free; buy 2 get 1 free, etc.), the number of coupons applied to that offer cannot exceed the number of items required in the "buy" portion of the offer.
Coupons may not be applied against any free item received in any offer (See 7 above).
Paper coupons will be processed before digital coupons.
Walgreens shall not accept coupons for items not carried in our stores.
Walgreens reserves the right to limit quantities to customers and employees.
Manufacturer coupons must include a valid redemption address.
Coupons may be subject to advertised offer limitations and all other limitations and restrictions on the applicable coupon or product.
Walgreens shall accept manufacturer coupons for items that are on sale.

The General Guidelines apply to the categories below and are to be referenced in addition to the specific coupon category guidelines.

The biggest setback for us couponers, is the fact that we

can no longer get free items if the coupon exceeds the

item, even by a penny.

Usually sale items end in .99 and many coupons end in

zero, so a total bummer.

Also, if there is a buy one get one free sale, only one

coupon can be used on the item that you're buying.

#Yesallwomen Maya Angelou Passes Away

2014-05-28T12:55:00.000-07:00

A poet, an activist, author, singer, dancer and the list goes on. Many words can be used to describe Maya Angelou, but all of them fall short.

Lets take a look back at her most notable poem, " Still I rise," so that we may be uplifted on this day of mourning.

#yesallwomen

2014-05-28T00:19:00.002-07:00

I know this is a coupon blog, but who are we if we ignore social issues?

#yesallwomen hashtag was spawned out of the horrific tragedy, which left several people dead.

A lonesome misfit, as described by people who knew him, decided to end the lives of others as well as his own.

Before the killing. however, he left a series of videos and a declaration as to why people had to die-- apparently rejection is the main reason innocent lives were lost.

No, #NotAllMen are violent against women, but #YesAllWomen have to navigate a world where those who are look the same as those who .

Dollar General Penny Items: How to find and Purchase

If your are a constant or sporadic reader of this blog, then you know that I've had a moderate amount of success finding and purchasing items for only one cent. You may find plenty of penny items, however, there's no guarantee that you will leave the store with them. Why? If it was left to each store manager, the odds of you leaving with a penny item are none.

First, you need to familiarize yourself with known penny items, you can do this by viewing my videos below:

ATTENTION: For an exclusive list of over a hundred items (including UPC's) that you can purchase for a penny, leave your email address in the comment section below.

Second, now that you have an idea of what to look for, you need to know more. Like if you see seasonal items from the fall, summer, winter etc,. the likelihood of these items being marked down to a penny are very high. Below is a list of additional items to look for:

Third, Know your rights as it pertains to being a Dollar General customer. 9 out of 10 times the cashier will inform you that they're not allowed to sell you a penny item -- this is not the case.

Once a customer brings a penny item up to the register, and that item is scanned, by their own rules located in their SOP manual, they must sell you the item.

Don't back down and don't be disorderly. You don't want to fight. Just politely inform "them" (manager included) that you are well aware of their policy, and that you would be willing to wait while they lookup the information in their employee handbook. If they still refuse, you have two options left. You can walk away or call corporate.

(615) 855-4000 (Mon-Fri 8-5 pm EST)

Yes, since they're only open Monday through Friday, this would be the ideal time to do your penny shopping.

Of course you can always reach Dollar General representatives outside of those hours, but you may or may not receive a good result.

Dollar General Penny Sale 5/5

2014-05-05T16:15:00.003-07:00

There are boat loads of items for a penny, but there is a huge difference.

There will be no hassle-- apparently DG employees finally get it; the customer is always right
DG employees are on high alert, so if you don't find any penny items after three days, they've been pulled or bought
I think a lot discontinued items are going to shift prices to $2.00, $1.00 etc. Before these clothing and shoe items went down to a penny, they were $2 and $1.

The videos below (sorry for the quality) are from the 5/5 sale

Dollar General Penny Items Discontinued?

2014-04-22T15:45:00.001-07:00

Are penny items discontinued at Dollar General?

This is the exact question I asked myself last week. I was perusing the web, as usual, and I duly noted many items that should have been a penny. So to my dismay, I go to Dollar General and load up on gray star/ blue dot items. These items are now ringing up for $2.00 a piece.

This could be a test phase, because the penney items have cost most confusion and frustration.

So, if Dollar General does replace penny items with a $2.00 tag, will you still buy?

A lady paid $.91 for all the items in the picture above.

Another lady paid over $14 for the items in the above photo.

Have you heard of Amazon Local?

2014-04-12T16:17:00.002-07:00

Amazon Local is similar to Groupon and Living Social, but they currently house less offers.

Anyway, right now you can get a free Uber coupon, if you sign up with Amazon Local. I did it yesterday, and today I received a Free $10 credit that's good toward a $10 purchase or more.

Also, if you're a new user you can sign-up here and receive a free $5.00 credit.
