The "slaves" were "sold" off during the party. The C.O.W.S. welcomes Jallow Momodou. Mr. Momodou is a member of the National Afro-Swedish Association and a faculty member of Malmö University. Not because [Gays'] struggle is like unto the American Black civil rights movement of the 1960s (although an argument can be made for such a comparison), but largely because Black Americans have long been recognized globally as one of the most discriminated groups in history. One would think that quid pro quo or understanding would come in at some point. The fact that the president is Black and the head of the Justice Department is also Black when such trifling legal comparisons are made between incestuous acts and gay and lesbian marriage is inexcusable.

Since we last spoke with Sen. Jordan, the state medical examiner has concluded that Carter's death was the result of a hanging - not suicide. Carter's mother and appointed representatives held a press conference on March 31st to share new information.

Usually when I assisted at an operation I tried to learn something, maybe about basic anatomy or what instruments were used for, or about surgical technique. But as this operation went on I had been thinking less about surgery and more and more about RACE. Here was this white surgeon treating his black patient the way he had, without respect, without according her the slightest shred of human dignity. And then to let her just die there, palled in her own blood? I was thinking about RACE the way black people in the south thought about RACE in 1957, with anger and resentment and a conviction that we should not be treated this way, that it was simply not tolerable.

I could notice this as a boy, down South in the slavery days before the war. The splendid black satin skin of the South African Zulus of Durban seemed to me to come very close to perfection....The white man's complexion makes no concealments. It can't. It seemed to have been designed as a catch-all for everything that can damage it. Ladies have to paint it, and powder it, and cosmetic it, and diet it with arsenic, and enamel it, and be always enticing it, and persuading it, and pestering it, and fussing at it, to make it beautiful; and they do not succeed. But these efforts show what they think of the natural complexion, as distributed. As distributed it needs these helps. The complexion which they try to counterfeit is one which nature restricts to the few--to the very few. To ninety-nine persons she gives a bad complexion, to the hundredth a good one. The hundredth can keep it--how long? Ten years, perhaps.The advantage is with the Zulu, I think. He starts with a beautiful complexion, and it will last him through. Dr. Omowale Akintunde:Such a notion of light skin & good hair cannot function as a singular pejorative idea. It must be reinforced from every possible social milieu. Supreme among these is the notion of how an oppressed people conceive of their god. Central to Christian dogma is the concept of Jesus as the son of God. Thus Jesus cannot be regarded as black with "nappy" hair by African-Americans. To look so would be to mean that his father, God, is black. And if he is black he's oppressed. Certainly, we can not pray to an oppressed god. That would be useless. Those who are like me are as powerless as I am. No, we must pray to our oppressor for freedom - for deliverance from oppression. Jesus, the son of God, is a [White] man. He is part of the [White] power structure. From him it is possible to attain salvation. And because we believe that God is [White] we ourselves are demeaned in stature. For it becomes impossible to think of God in our own image.This notion is clearly evidenced, reinforced, and communicated through common epitaphs in the African-American community such as "n***** ain't sh@t" and 'n*****s and flies, I do despise." What is further ironic of this Christian syndrome of self-hatred & domination is that African-Americans have become not only the victims but also the perpetuators of their own social and psychological oppression.I am not asserting that African-Americans are responsible for their own oppression. I am not asserting that these notions of self-hatred & white male worship are originated by African-Americans in an attempt to subjugate themselves.
