Creative DIY Kraft Gift Wrapping Ideas - part four

This will be our last post for the holidays featuring DIY gift wrapping ideas using our everyday kraft bags and boxes. In this post, all of our gift wrapping ideas take on a Frozen theme and we think that Elsa and Anna would like all of them!

White paint markers were used to decorate all of these kraft bags and boxes.

You can find more how to details on faux lettering and to reproduce these snowflake and foliage doodles in this blog post.

This magnetic closure gift box was embellished with a variety of different "snowflakes" to create a simple one of a kind design and tied up with a ribbon so there would be no peeking!

The handmade Santa gift topper works as a gift tag holder.

We added fresh foliage to our gift wrapping in this blog post and here's one more idea for how to work it into your holiday gift wrapping ...

We drew a branch and ornament onto the top of this kraft gift box and then incorporated a piece of fresh cedar and an ornament gift toppers for a 3-D effect. We chose to use this narrow ribbon on the gift box so that the illustration/fresh foliage/ornament would take centre stage in the overall presentation.

Got pom poms? Why not glue a few onto a kraft gift box to look like snow balls. Add some snowflakes with a white paint marker, a striped ribbon and a hand decorated ornament as a gift topper and you are done.

If you are using a smaller box like this kraft folding set up box, adding a design (or to/from message) to the front of the box gives you more space on the top of the box for ribbon and a gift topper.

No need to buy an additional gift tag with this gift wrapping idea. We punched a hole in this kraft paper shopper and drew a "gift tag" into the bag's design before adding the twine to the faux tag.

Creative DIY Kraft Gift Wrapping Inspiration - part three

Kraft bags, boxes and wrapping paper are holiday favourite for many of our customers. And for DIY enthusiasts our kraft packaging products are a blank canvas just waiting to be embellished with personalized heart felt details.

In this third post, we are sharing more inspirational ideas using our kraft bags and boxes.

Simple star shapes, dots and "HO" lettering were added to this folding kraft box to create an overall print. The whimsical gift tag and our exclusive Merry Everything printed ribbon add to the "Santa" theme of the gift packaging.

Kraft bags and boxes where embellished with a stamp & black ink, white Sharpie paint markers and pieces of fresh cedar.

You can do this:

1. Stamp an image of a truck, van or car onto a flat folding box.

Tip - you can also stamp your image onto a piece of kraft wrapping paper and wrap it around the box.

2. Use a white paint marker to add some little details to your design. Here we added snowflakes and a couple of little elements to the truck.

3. Small pieces of fresh cedar were attached to the kraft paper using a few pieces of two-sided tape.

Finish off with ribbon. Here we tied a striped ribbon around the sides of the box.

The same technique with the stamped image was used on this gift bag but this time the small pieces of fresh cedar were added to the bag a little differently. A small slit was made into the bag so that the cedar could be inserted into the "trunk" of the truck. A few pieces of two-sided of tape were used to keep the cedar in place.

Here's a close up of how the cedar was inserted into the slit in the bag.

You will also noticed that we removed the original handles on the bag and replaced them with ribbon that added to our holiday theme.

One fun element that you can add to your gift bag and may not have thought about is to add a little hidden message to the inside of the bag. We added "ho ho ho" to this one but can add a message that is more personal. It's a fun gift wrapping detail for Secret Santa gifts.

Here's an idea if you are doing last minute gift wrapping and realise that you have run out of tissue paper. Punch two holes in the top of the bag as shown and insert a ribbon to close the bag and add a decorative element.

Got pom poms?! Why not add them to your holiday gift wrapping? Turn any deer head into Rudolph by simply gluing a small red pom pom.

We added our exclusive holiday stickers to kraft paper bags and gift card holders. We drew the wreaths using paint markers but you could also use stamps with a large wreath design if you are creating a more than a few of these for your small business.

Tip: Wreaths were drawn first on the gift card envelope and paper lunch bag before adding the stickers.

We also added baker's twine to the bag by punching two holes in the top. This is a great idea for prepacked baked goods at holiday markets so the contents will be contained until opened.

Add a little something extra to the top of the kraft paper lunch bag by cutting the top of the bag with scallop edged scissors as we did above.

Creative DIY Kraft Gift Wrapping Inspiration - part two!

Our everyday kraft paper bags and boxes are a customer favourite all year round.

Sources: paper shoppers, folding boxes, die cut handle bags, set up gift boxes, gift card envelopes.

During the holiday season you can turn these plain packaging products into some festive using just a few supplies like paint markers, twine and ribbon.

White Sharpie paint markers were used to draw on all of the bags and boxes in this post.

You can keep it simple and just add a design to just the front of a bag (or box) or ...

you can go all out and wrap your design around to cover every side!

In this example, we glued baker's twine around the bag and worked it into the overall design of the drawing for an unexpected detail.

One of the secrets to creating the designs on all of these projects is that we sketched out the lettering and larger elements using a white pencil before using the paint markers. After the paint has dried you can erased the pencil lines.

A very simple mistle toe graphic was repeated around this folding kraft box like a printed design. The lettering was added to the front of the box so twine could be wrapped around the box and tied at the top.

Snowflakes, evergreen branches and dots were mixed and matched on all of these kraft packaging products so that when they were all displayed together they would look like a "collection". Even the hand drawn designs on the ornaments co-ordinate with the gift wrapping!

The black and gold printed Starry Night tissue paper was used as inspiration for the graphic elements that were used in the design on this gift bag.

Ornaments make great gift toppers and double as another gift. The ornament has a holiday saying on our sample but you could easily create these with names and use them as a gift tag as well. We kept the drawings on this folding box very simple by just repeating snowflake like shapes in various sizes.

If you prefer to hand letter a design on the lid of a gift box, tie a ribbon around the side of the box like this sample.

Wrap up gift cards in one of these plain kraft gift card holders and then make it your own it with some simple graphics. Ribbon and a hand lettered ornament are the final touches.

It's wrapping season! Creative DIY Kraft Gift Wrapping Inspiration

Kraft packaging products are a customer favourite during the holiday season.

We've taken a number of our plain everyday kraft bags and boxes and using a few basic items like paint pens, ribbon and twine to turn them into creative holiday gift wrapping.

Here's a great excuse to print some of the photos you have been storing on your phone or computer and customize your gift wrapping for someone special.

This magnetic gift box features a photo that is held in place using a striped ribbon and finished off with a fresh piece of cedar and decorative tape.

Here's a close up showing how the photo was sliced so that the ribbon could be inserted. Decorative washi tape is not extremely sticky so we used two sided tape to hold the cedar and washi tape in place.

Using a white paint marker a wreath design was drawn onto this paper shopper to create a "frame" for a photo.

The photo was cut out as a circle and attached to the bag using 3-D foam tape to give it a little more dimension.

Looking for an interesting way to package hostess gifts? These simple paper lunch bags are a sweet idea and can be created to look like home of your hostess.

To make your own village of houses you will need kraft paper lunch bags, a pencil, paint marker, a hole punch and twine. Fold the top of the bag as shown and punch two holes so that the twine can be added later.

We used a pencil to first sketch out an outline and then followed up with the paint marker to complete the house design.

Once the drawings are complete, the bags are ready to be filled and tied up using baker's twine as shown.

Holiday Decorating Inspiration Using Ribbons and Twine

Ribbons and twine are some of our favourite things for gift wrapping and holiday decor projects!

Mix and match ribbons to use throughout your holiday gift wrapping and decor projects.

We have hundreds of different ribbons to choose from - solids, stripes, prints, fabrications and sizes. The secret to creating pleasing ribbon combinations is to try to keep to a few colours that work well together.

Ribbon Inspiration - Striped and solid ribbons in gold and white ribbons and in a variety of different widths.

Notice that we added 1/8" gold metallic ribbon to the ornament give tag.

Tip: Use different widths of ribbon on assorted sizes of gift boxes.

Update ornaments using ribbon and twines. It's a great way to refresh old ornaments.

Here we added a bow to a boxwood wreath using 1 1/2" ribbon and then used a 7/8" ribbon to hang.

Make everyday items in your home a little more festive by adding ribbons to them.

Tip: After the holidays remove the ribbons, use a flat iron to remove the wrinkles and store the ribbons so they can be reused next year.

Holiday Gift Wrapping Inspiration - Tissue paper is the finishing touch!

So you're planning to use gift bags for your holiday gift wrapping but you are not quite sure how many sheets of tissue paper you will need and whether you should use solid or printed tissue papers. Great questions that we are asked all year round.

Today we are going to try to answer some of these gift wrapping questions and give you a little holiday gift wrapping inspiration at the same time!

"Fox" Winter Wonderland (5" x 3" x 8") gift bag + 1 sheet of Winter Wonderland printed tissue + 1 sheet of gold metallic tissue.

Smaller gift bags only need two sheets of tissue paper.

Here we combined a printed tissue paper with the gold metallic tissue paper to compliment the gold foil details on the bag.

"Robin" Winter Wonderland (8" x 4.5" x 10") gift bag + 1 or 2 sheets of Winter Wonderland printed tissue + 2 sheets of gold metallic tissue.

Medium sized bags can be finished off with two or three sheets of tissue paper. It's really up to you!

"Deer" Winter Wonderland (10" x 5" x 13") gift bag + 1 sheet of gold & white Reindeer printed tissue + 2 sheets of gold metallic tissue.

Larger bags like this one require three or four sheets of tissue paper.

We like to mix printed tissue with solid tissue paper for two reasons - 1. it looks good and 2. it is often more cost effective to use solid coloured tissue paper vs. printed or speciality papers.

"Flowers & Pinecones" Winter Wonderland (16" x 6" x 12") gift bag + 2 sheets of printed tissue (Winter Wonderland & Holiday Garden) + 2 sheets of white tissue + 2 sheets of gold metallic tissue.

This extra large gift bag has a lot going on with six pieces of tissue paper. We could have got away with using just 4 sheets of tissue paper but we decided to go big on this one by mixing two printed tissue papers with the white and gold tissue.

We love to see how our creative customers use our products. And every once in a while we are lucky enough to be able to work with our customers on special projects like this "Love is in the Air" wedding styled shoot.

Check out how amazing our Queen West gift bags look in these photos. The styled shoot was planned and styled by Historia Wedding and Event Planning .

This beautiful sweet table set up was brilliantly styled by Gloria Vazquez-Abrams using artisan chocolate from Stubbe Chocolates and cotton candy from Bucket and Whisk. You will find all of the vendor credits at the bottom of this post.

Gloria used our white and gold foil edge gift bags to display the cotton candy. We changed the white ribbon handles on the gift bags to a ribbon that was a little more colourful to match the whimsical theme and colour palette.

Aren't these colourful chocolate favours by Stubbe Chocolates amazing? When your product is as beautiful as these, clear favour packing is always the best way to go.

Wedding & Party Decor Inspiration - using our gift boxes

When Gloria Vazquez-Abrams from Historia Wedding and Event Planning showed us her mood boards for a styled shoot she was planning we were more than happy to take part in the event. Gloria's idea to use our Queen West gift boxes and gift bags in the wedding decor was so creative and inspiring and we think that you will agree once you have seen these photos that were captured by Samantha Ong Photography.

Our Queen West Blake boxes were topped off with beautiful crepe paper flowers from Floral Fantasy Studio and used as centrepieces in the tablescape set up. The floral details in the gift boxes worked so well with the pastel mix and matched china, the floral menu cards and the floral details in the lollipop favour packaging.

The gold foil edging in the gift boxes also worked so well with the gold accents in the glassware, china and cutlery.

Gloria also included our Queen West gift boxes and gift bags in the main feature set up. A set up that included an aerial ring and (bride & groom) aerialists performers, drapery, balloons, vinyl flooring and gigantic paper flowers.

Creative DIY Inspiration - How you can customize our garment bags for your wedding party

We have seen so many brides (and grooms) wearing customized jackets on their wedding day lately. Whether the jackets are leather, vegan leather or denim we can't get over how beautiful they look in wedding photos.

We are pretty sure that a lot of thought and care was put into designing and creating those jackets and we hope that they are being stored in a garment bag before and after the wedding day. Did you know that most of our garment bags can be personalized using paint pens?

We have garment bags in a few different materials, sizes and colours.

DIY supply list - we used this garment bag, a white Stabilo pencil and white Sharpie paint markers.

Step 1. Lightly sketch out a rough design using the Stabilo pencil.

Step 2. Trace over your sketch using the paint markers. You might want to use a few different sizes of paint markers depending on your design. If you have a lot of solid areas to fill in use a larger tip.

Step 3. You may want to add in finer details to your design using an extra fine point marker.

Once the paint is completely dry you can use a dry cloth or eraser to remove the pencil marks.

Make it your own by adding your name.

Sweet idea for Easter - Some Bunny Loves You

One more idea for Easter gift packaging using our popular tin containers.

The window lid on this 8" x 6.75" x 3" tin box is perfect for showcasing artisan made sweets inside.

We teamed up with Christy's Gourmet Gifts and filled the large tin box with small chocolate bunnies and cookies decorated like Easter eggs.

We added bright green sizzle to the box to keep the chocolates and cookies in place.

The hand lettering details were added to the tin box window using a white Sharpie paint marker. You can recreate the hand lettering yourself using the template in the download below. All of the instruction for creating the faux hand lettering are included in the download and you can see photos of how we added faux lettering to similar Easter projects here and here.

We also added a watercolour satin ribbon to the tin box. The ribbon is actually our white single face satin ribbon that was painted with watercolour paints. You can find the diy instructions for painting the ribbon in this blog post.

Oh Hoppy Day ... A Sweet Idea for Easter Entertaining

Here's a simple idea for a centrepiece that can be made well in advance of the Easter long weekend. Our glass jars with lids come in a variety of different sizes and can be used to display Easter chocolates, cookies or any other sweets that you wish.

In this centrepiece, we've displayed a large chocolate bunny in a tall glass container and used gold geometric candle holders to display smaller chocolate bunnies.

Course sugar and green sizzle was added to the bottom of the glass jar to hold the large chocolate bunny in place. Baby's breath was spray painted with pastel colours and placed around the base of the jar to create a wreath effect.

White satin ribbon was painted using water colour paint for a pop of colour and added to the jar and gold candle holders.

We added the "Hoppy Easter" lettering to the glass jar and you can do it too!

Here's how:

1. Download the lettering template and print it out size as is.

2. Cut out the lettering and position it inside the container as shown above. Use painter's tape to hold the paper in place.

Using a white Sharpie water based paint marker, trace the lettering onto the outside of the glass. Don't worry about creating an exact copy of the lettering template.

Once the faux hand lettering is dry, you can add the sugar, sizzle and bunny.

We simply added an Easter message to the box by adding "faux" hand lettering using a Sharpie paint marker. The ribbon is actually our plain white 1 1/2" satin ribbon that was coloured using watercolour paints.

Keep reading for the DIY instructions for adding hand lettering to the window of this box.

We added small chocolate bunnies and cookies from Christy's Gourmet Gifts to this cake pop box as a hostess gift idea. Green sizzle was added to the inside of the box to keep the chocolates and cookies in place and to add a pop of colour to the presentation.

Flower Treasures spray painted baby's breath in colours to match the watercolour ribbon.

The cake pop box also makes a great container to carry large chocolate Easter eggs. The sizzle keeps the egg from rolling around and covers the holes in the cake pop base.

Note: The cake pop box is sold in two parts. The lid makes it easier to transport cake pops on the base and is sold as an add on. Both are available in white and kraft.

Here's how you can recreate the "hoppy day" hand lettering on the cake pop box window:

Download the printable template.
Print the template "size as is" to fit the box window.
Cut the lettering out and centre it inside of the box as shown above. Use painter's tape to hold the lettering in place.
Using a white Sharpie paint marker, trace the lettering on the outside of the window.

You can also use the "hoppy day" template to add faux letter on glass containers.

Use the same white Sharpie paint markers on glass so you can remove the lettering later using water and a paper towel.
