In our effort to bring you more of The Crustcast, we've decided to start trying some new formats. Episode 6 brings you the immediate reactions of theseseans and ill! ya? during Doomriders's headlining show at Union Pool. We also enlist the help of audience member Rachel Brown from New York's own Archon.

This is by far our shortest episode, clocking in at just over 11 minutes. As always, please let us know what you think in the comments. We are planning to do more of these show reviews/shorter episodes, hopefully with some actual show audio next time.

Thanks to Rachel for randomly doing this completely spur of the moment. Archon will be bringing their doom to Lit Lounge on Monday, Feb. 21, alongside Bassoon, Vultus and Deep In Vein. Go check it out! Support local metal and Precious Metal's Metal Mondays.

Sweet Cobra drummer Jason Gagovski also told us about a split coming in May from Sweet Cobra and Doomriders. The 7" split will feature Doomriders covering "Girl You Want" and Sweet Cobra covering "Gates of Steel" by Devo. Kurt Ballou (Converge) recorded and mixed the Doomriders song and Allen Epley and Eric Abert (both of The Life And Times) recorded and mixed the Sweet Cobra song. Look for this via Hawthrone Street Records.

Sweet Cobra had a fun -- though not particularly memorable -- set of heavy rock'n'roll. Little flourishes of Big Business (good) and Pelican (not good). Their last song, "Leviathan," got the crowd moving. It should have been first.

Unearthly Trance had mammoth sound, teeth-grinding intensity and a sick cover of His Hero is Gone's "Headless/Heartless." New York's finest.

Doomriders' set was complete chaos, with corwdsurfers, dancing, fists in the air and sing-alongs. Killer band, crowd and show. As sad as I am to have missed Scott Kelly at Mercury Lounge, I'm glad I made it to this one.

Going on a trip anytime soon? You got a vacation from work? Bad commute in the morning? Two hours which you just don't know how to fill? You're in luck buddy. We recorded a new episode of the Crustcast, and it is hot and fresh out of the oven! We used a little too much yeast though, so it's a lot bigger than we thought. But hey, who doesn't like hearing us talk, especially when "us" includes Cosmo Lee of Invisible Oranges, Andy Nolan of The Endless Blockade, our own Sean Walsh and of course me?

Hey y'all! So, we got your feedback after our first episode, and MAN was there a lot of feedback. Most of it was constructive too! So, we took your suggestions, applied them, and now this episode is better than the first one; now there are more samples, more relevant news and more funny! That's right, there are more funny! Plus: I demonstrate my age by not knowing who Layne Staley is. Oops!

This week, we have Brooklynvegan's Fred Pessaro and Metalsucks' Gary Suarez as guests on the show, with Sean and I holding down the fort on the Crustcake side. We have one hell of a time.

Of course, not everything is perfect. I screwed up the recording, so people sound like robots for most of it. Next time I'll get it right, I promise.

When I brought up the idea of a podcast in one of our weekly meetings, the other Crustcakers met the idea with a tepid response but told me to go for it. A few weeks later, we're happy and proud to present to you the pilot episode of the Crustcast, featuring our own Andrew Wilhelm and these seans, along with Decibel’s and Invisible Oranges’ Cosmo Lee and Jess Blumensheid. And, of course, myself as host.

With this podcast, I hope to provide you, our readers (and now listeners), with an entertaining and informative discussion of what’s going on in the metal world today. This episode features two segments: one in which we discuss what we’ve been listening to lately and the other featuring news from the metal world.
