Campaign started against offensive emails and SMSs related to Pakistan Civilian Leadership

ISLAMABAD: A country-wide campaign has been launched against emails and text messages containing offensive and fabricated stories against the civilian leadership.

Sources told Geo News, decision has been taken to initiate an immediate action against the banned outfits engaging propaganda against the security forces through Internet.

Directive has been issued to DG FIA for taking to task the elements involved in the crime under Cyber Crimes Act.

Interpol has also been formally requested to track such emails and web sites developed outside the country. Help will be sought from the international police for deportation of the people involved in the crime, sources said.

Those proved guilty of committing these crimes will be punished with 14 years imprisonment and/ or confiscation of the property.

Zardari drops bombshell, admits Pak ‘created militancy for short term tactical gains’ : Daily Times

Pakistan now seems to be feeling the heat of the fire it had lighted years ago, with President Asif Ali Zardari admitting that the menace of extremism and militancy were created by Islamabad itself to attain some tactical goals.

Addressing a gathering of retired federal secretaries and senior bureaucrats here, Zardari asked the officials to admit the reality.

“Let us be truthful to ourselves and make a candid admission of the realities. Militancy and extremism emerged on the national scene and challenged the state not because the civil bureaucracy was weakened and demoralised, but because they were deliberately created and nurtured as a policy to achieve some short-term tactical objectives,” The Daily Times quoted Zardari, as saying.

Referring to the political turmoil in the country, Zardari said Pakistan cannot afford political brick batting at present, as the state is on the verge of collapse due to the impending threat from the Taliban and other terror organizations.

“We intend to keep all the political forces together in a harmonious relationship as we cannot afford political games and confrontational politics. We are at the brink and we must realize that political games for personal gain can no longer be played,” he said.

Zardari also stressed on the need of dispersing power to different hands for effective governance.

“Too much power, when concentrated in one hand lasts only for a short time. For power to be effectively used for long-lasting public good it must be diffused and dispersed as widely as possible,” he added.

Taliban scrap peace deal in Pakistan tribal area

Associated Press Writer= MIR ALI, Pakistan (AP) Taliban militants in a tribal region bordering Afghanistan say they have pulled out of a peace deal with the government, raising the prospect of wider unrest as the Pakistani army extends its efforts to eliminate insurgents.

The militants in North Waziristan blamed continuing U.S. missile strikes and army offensives against the Taliban for their decision, which was announced in the wake of a Taliban ambush that killed 16 soldiers.

Government leaders and Taliban representatives reached the deal in February 2008, but few details have been released about it.

U.S. officials have criticized peace deals with militants or tribes representing them in the border region, saying they allow the insurgents to gain strength. The agreement in North Waziristan had appeared to keep things relatively peaceful there â calmer than in neigboring South Waziristan, where the army is preparing for a major offensive aimed at Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud.

The deal was struck with a Taliban faction led by Hafiz Gul Bahadur.

"This accord is being scrapped because of Pakistan's failure to stop the American drone attacks in North and South Waziristan," Bahadur spokesman Ahmadullah Ahmadi told The Associated Press via phone Monday. "Since the army is attacking us in North and South Waziristan, we will also attack them."

Various militant groups operate under the Taliban banner in Pakistan, but do not always see eye to eye. The ending of the peace deal could be a sign of greater unity in the face of a common enemy now that the Pakistani military has stepped up its operations against insurgents.

On Monday, army spokesman Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas said the weekend ambush was unprovoked and warned the government reserved the right to retaliate, specifically against tribes that harbor militants. Abbas was not available for comment Tuesday about the scrapping of the deal.

The U.S. has frequently launched missile strikes in North and South Waziristan, attacks American officials say have killed several top al-Qaida fighters. Pakistan publicly protests the strikes as violations of its sovereignty, though many observers suspect the two countries have a secret deal allowing the strikes.

Pakistan's armed forces are gearing up for a major military offensive in South Waziristan, a hotbed for al-Qaida and Taliban fighters. The region is the main base for Mehsud, who is blamed in numerous suicide attacks in the country and has been accused in the killing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Troops also are pursuing an offensive in the northwest's Swat Valley following the breaking down of a peace pact there.

The army says it has killed around 1,600 militants in Swat and surrounding districts in the past two months.

Lahore is again on Target by suicide Bomb attack. The principal of Jamia Naeemia, well known religious scholar, Dr Sarfaraz Naeemi were martyard as a result of a suicide bomb attack at Jamia Naeemia in Garhi Shahu, Lahore.

The bomb blast was so powerful that it destroyed the walls of Jamia Naeemia. According to witness Dr Sarfaraz Naeemi was in his office at that very time. The blast occured when people were leaving Mosque after completing their prayers.

Another suicide bomb attack occured in Nowshehra.

Peshawar blast death toll rises to 11

PESHAWAR: At least 11 people were killed and 40 others injured in a powerful blast at a five-star hotel in Peshawar area of Saddar at Khyber Road, Geo News reported Tuesday.

The injured include mainly the servants of the hotel.

According to Geo News correspondent, the blast was so powerful that windowpanes of the nearby buildings broke. Soon after the blast, the power supply to the area has been suspended. The whole area is plunged into darkness.

The blast site is awash with smoke. The building caught fire soon after the blast. Several vehicles were destroyed in the blast. The sounds of gunshots are still being heard in the area.

At least 40 injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital.

A large number of security personnel arrived on the spot and cordoned off the area. Khyber Road has been blocked for traffic.

According to Geo News correspondent, miscreants drove two vehicles towards the hotel; however, they found barricades there, they turned to firing and moved to the mosque where the blast occurred.

According to sources, the extremists attacked the check post of the security guards.
