Here it is, the last Spooky Gamecut for October 2011, Costume Quest. Halloween has almost come and gone but that's okay because with a game like Costume Quest, you can relive Halloween every day of the year if you want; and have a great time doing it! Costume Quest is a fun little rpg style game where you face off against goblins who are stealing all of the candy in the neighborhood. They then mistakenly steal your sibling, thinking they're a piece of candy too, and this sends you on the Halloween adventure of a lifetime! Easily one of my favorite games from last year!

Here's your invitation, to the Monster Party! Today we're taking a look at Monster Party for the NES from 1989. This time I have my good buddy Grey from The Dark Hours Podcast joining me for the show! This is a very strange game and I'm not even sure where to begin describing it. You play as Mark, who meets a gargoyle named Bert. The two fuse together and once in a while you can play as Bert instead of Mark. The old switch-a-roo! That's about all I know about it, besides the fact that it's also a pretty tough game. Hey, I can cry if I want to, it's my Monster Party!

Probably not, but it's got to be pretty entertaining nonetheless.

Gamecut: Dead Space 2 (2011)

Now that we've seen a little Dead Space, what about the sequel that came out earlier this year? Issac is back, with more responsive controls and a voice! No longer is the space miner, turned alien destroyer, a silent protagonist. This first twenty minutes of the game is some of the best horror I've ever seen demonstrated in a game. I'm almost tempted to tell you to skip watching this and just go find a copy of the game and play it now, but then who would watch this?!

We take a break from the retro games and jump into the 2008 released scary game called Dead Space. Most current generation savy gamers are aware of Dead Space, considering it was a huge hit! Advertised as a grindhouse game in space, the franchise was expected to be big on not only the game side of things but also with comics, books and even some animated movies. I haven't checked out the other pieces of media but the game sure is scary! You play as space miner, Issac Clarke who is on his way to check out a space station that his vessel recently lost contact with. When they show up, they find nothing but strange humanoid creatures that want to attack anything they come into contact with. Can Issac get through these tight corridors and murderous creatures and set things right?

We dive further into the retro spooky games by taking a look at Haunting: Starring Polterguy! Polterguy being the main character you play as who has a flat top and, since it was the early 90's, a 'tude! You haunt a house and you want this family out of the house you're haunting. You scare them by jumping into normal household objects like lamps, couches and paintings to have them create a parnormal situation that would make even the bravest human poop their pants. It's great fun and really original idea for a video game. I just wish I could pull off a flat top like Polterguy! Then I'd be cool! Radical!

This is a pretty unique game in the NES library as the only game like this point and click adventure on the system is Shadowgate (that I know of) and that's made by the same company too! In this Spooky Gamecut, we take a look at Zombies Ate My Neighbors for the SNES, Sega Genesis and you can also purchase it on the Wii Virtual Console. Despite its title, ZAMN is a game that features a ton of theatrical monsters and spooks and couples it with a fun survival, run and gun style of play. It's one of my favorites from the 16-bit generation. Check it out!

The Spooky Gamecuts continue for Halloween 2011 with Haunted House from 1982. This was an Atari game and it maye be hard to believe because the game only consists of blocks, but this game used to freak me out when I was little. It's the perfect example of a scary retro game and is actually one of the first survival horror games! Eat your heart out Resident Evil!

Gamecut: The Binding of Isaac (PC, Mac - 2011)

The first spooky Gamecut of October 2011, The Binding of Isaac. This is a new 5 dollar Steam release for PC and Mac created by half of the team behind Super Meat Boy. It just came out late last week and wow is it creepy. You play as Isaac, a boy threatened by his mother that she will sacrifice him to god. He escapes to the cellar where all is well, or so he thinks! The basement is filled abominations and monsters and he will have to fight his way through 5 levels of it to get away. The game sure is creepy and spooky but is it any good?

I didn't see the first Laid to Rest but here is the sequel that Grey said we should check out, Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 (Laid 2 Rest?). I guess the movie goes into the background of Chromeskull a little bit? I think it explores his world a bit? Take a listen and see what else we're questioning, especially with it's quality.

Sure, I'm out of town and not able to bring you the normal goodness this month, but I was able to catch an early showing of 30 Minutes or Less. It's this summers action, blockbuster comedy film with some pretty big names in contemporary comedy (Danny Mcbride, Nick Swardson and Aziz Ansari). The real question though, is it worth seeing or should you stiff the pizza boy?
