Few days ago, when i got back from my trip to The Hague, I quickly browsed through the photos I made there.As I was planning a selection for the blog, lots of thoughts that i wanted to put on this post came over my mind. Few days later, as I decided just to post the photos.

Ilford XP2 400

Less then a year ago, I bought an Ilford XP2 400 ASA. For the less informed, it is a C41 process film, meant to be processed with chemicals and machines used for all the other standard commercial films. I thought it was a wise choice to buy such a film because I will not have any problems finding a lab to process it.
Of course, I was wrong.
The procedure turned out to be very long, since there are about three labs still processing film in Macedonia. And you can rarely find a lab which scanner "accepts" BW film. At the end, i managed to get the film processed.
Here are some of the photos, as scanned by the lab. Luckily, the prints turned out much, much better...

I used to travel by train a lot as a student (it was the cheapest form of transport).
Didn't like trains much back then. Simply because they were old, dirty, slow and too crowded.
I spent a lot of time in trains and train stations, so, when I heard that the "Business class" is active again ("Business class" meaning the train stops only on 4 instead of 30 or so stations) some strange feeling of nostalgia made me want to travel by train again.

So I did...

Here are some of the photos I made while waiting for the train at the Skopje Train Station.
The time took its toll from the train station in Skopje. Once a beautiful object, the station is worn out nowadays, dark and gloomy. It was pouring rain that day which added to the generally dark atmosphere.

A panoramic photograph of the people waiting for the train at the opposite track.

The people who were waiting for the other train, somehow received an info that theirs train will be late. They decided that it is the best to change the tracks simply by jumping over the rails.

Through the car doors. The train that is on the track is not the train we are all waiting for.

A young couple having a wedding photo shoot, using the train as a backdrop for their love story.

Everything was fine and quiet on the other tracks.

Large stairs connect the building with the platform.

The train driver on the opposite track was patiently waiting for his departure.

The train cars are old but refubrished. There is even a TV for entertainment. However, the documentary that was on did not entertain this passenger.

On the Streets of Istanbul

I've just returned from a trip to Istanbul.
Or Constantinople.
Or Byzantium.
You know, the where-east-meets-west story.
There will be some photos in this post but I must warn You: You will not see any of all the magnificent buildings this city has. (I shot only a few of them, just in case).
Instead, I shot almost 0.00002% of the 19 000 000 inhabitants this giant beehive.

Some time ago, i started posting some random stuff on a service called posterous. Not so long ago this great service announced that it will seize to exist. I was using it as my visual diary. That was my blog where I used to post sketches and drawings, or some random photos. And every image in it was taken with my mobile phone. Thats why I called it "my almost mobile blog". This is a post of things transferred from there.

One day experiment

This morning I rediscovered the multiburst feature on my faithful Sony Dsc W100. It's a mode in which the camera takes multiple exposures during some time and after that exports a jpg image which is actually image made out from 16 consequent exposures. The idea was to take random images during a walk, and somehow render them into a video. Some people may call this timelapse, but I call it a video experiment.
Out of camera images look something like this:

87 jpgs or (87x16 =1392 frames) vere taken for the first video and 162 jpgs (162x16=2592 frames) for the second. All of these were cropped and layered, then imported into a 30fps sequence given a duration of 2 frames per image (that's why its a bit slow mo). No color correction was made whatsoever.
The shooting was done on a random pace, without looking through the viewfinder nor checking the shot on the LCD (of the hip shooting). Combine that with the automatic metering and setting of the camera and you get a rather shaky - jerky video, with lots of exposure differences between scenes, but that's exactly what I expected.
Here are the results of this little experiment.
Warning, these videos contain flashes and rapid scene changes and can cause nausia :)

Coming back

All the shots for this video were made in the interval of 20 minutes, late afternoon, same day.
Edited and rendered in the evening.
That completes this one day project.

Its been a while since my last post, so in order to redeem myself in front of my scarce but devoted audience, I am posting three videos I filmed this morning and edited later in the afternoon. You'll probably notice that it's the same video graded in three different styles which makes this sentence obsolete, but I hope you'll enjoy watching them. Any comment regarding which one you like the best is welcome.

Painting the green thing...black

This is a short video, (actually shortened from 20 minutes or so to about 4.) of me, coloring a previosly hand drawn sketch. The sketch looked something like this...

After some not so hard,and suprisingly entertaining coloring it turned out looking like this:

I never imagined it to be green while I was drawing it, but it never turns out the way we imagined, right?:)

Weekend in Malovishta

First, a little disclaimer: Malovishta is a beautiful village, situated at the base of Baba Mountain, in the National Park Pelister, and I highly recommend a visit. The images below are not intended to present a tutorial, but simply to describe the steps of making the final image, an imaginary tourist offer.

Read how this image was made:
This is the starting image, taken on a bright sunny day, somewhere before noon.

As you can notice, it's a bit too light, and saturated. So the first step is to desaturate the colors

Then, a vignette is added to darken the corners

Since the final image is invisioned to be dark and moonlighted, some shadow is added

Now comes the funny part. The scene is ready, time for the actors to be placed. Nosferatu, The Wolf, and of course the moon which light I am trying to mimic.

Since it's supposed to be night, dark and spooky, cooling filter is applied

I am not sure whether the mistery person on the window is the victim, or the arch-villain, the master of all these beasts, so I'll let you decide. Bats as a cliche added.

That's about it with the image. Since all of this was previously planned to represent some kind of a poster, the right and the bottom right side of the image is left as an empty space for copy placement. So here it is.

I must admit that i could have done better with the choice of the lettering. Here is the translation of the text in the black box. Macedonian to English:
