This blog is not dead. I was just very passionate on preparing for my board exam that i took a month off and guess what? I failed.

Record Low – that was how the ECE Board exam results of November 2010 turned out. Do some Google if you want to know more about it. I never want to see that roster again with figures that are both hurtful and sad for me.

For starters, I hailed from one of the country’s most prestigious universities whose track record is unashamed by its graduates’ performance in the ECE board exams, however this time around our alma mater’s pride is hurt with a marred reputation.

Shameful? Somewhat. Enraging? Maybe. Me? Scared.

PRC is a sham!How can such a trivial exam measure one’s mastery of the fundamental concepts of the ECE profession? I can’t help but question both the integrity of the system and the qualifications of the successful examinees.

The ECE board exam as I experienced it turns out to measure nothing but luck.

Luck that you can guess the right answers and/or luck that you chose a review center that will let you pass. Why? Because they have the exam questions beforehand and so goes the long debate of leakage and all that.

I believed that cheating is unnecessary. C’mon! Six months of toil and hardwork is not a joke. It is in those months that I guess every reviewee such as I better understood each and every concept of our field (if not completely mastering it) but come examination time – I ate my words.

I failed but I failed with honor, pride, integrity, competence and knowledge but let’s get real, who cares? At the end of the day all I need is that damn license that you can never get with honor, pride, integrity, competence and knowledge. The exam is that unfair that it won’t give you a chance to get that ever elusive license no matter how much you’ve prepared for it (the good, honest and clean way).

So it turns out that cheating is a necessary evil. What I learned from this experience is that you have to throw away your pride in order to get a license. Shame PRC! Shame!

My recommendation, don’t study at all! Chill and relax, enroll in every refresher coaching and pay close attention. Yup! You still have to do something dumbass! After that, chances are you either pass or top the exam without any effort. Voila! Licensed ECE! I don’t think you even have to complete college. After HS graduation, enroll in a refresher coaching and take the board. Of course, PRC wouldn’t allow that but you get my point, right?

Pasakalye: Leakage?

Matagal na may leak, not just in the ECE board, problema talaga ang sistema ng PRC and not unless maayos ang PRC, cheating is the way to go! Kaya yan uso kasi kailangan. ‘Yan na din ang negosoyo ng mga review center dahil diyan na din nabubuo ang reputasyon nila. Kung iisiping mabuti, hindi naman leak ang problema, sistema ng paggawa ng exam ang dapat bigyang pansin.

Kaunting swerte nalang to be honest, papasa na ako but even if I pass hindi nakaka-proud kasi parang wala naman na-test yung exam na ‘yun in order for me to deserve a license. Well, uhmm… who cares? I need a license anyway!

Kung nakakuha ka ng leak and hindi ka pumasa, too bad. Iyak ka nalang, wala ka kasi karapatan magreklamo. Kung pumasa ka naman dahil sa leak, proud ka ba? Siguro. Aba! Effort din mag-memorize diba? Kahit nakahain na sayo ang sagot dapat makabisa mo naman. Hehe, and kung hindi ka naambunan kahit kaunti – tawa ka nalang. Sa puso mo pasado ka pero aminin na natin wala kang lisensya at walang may pakialam sa’yo. Mag-bitter ka nalang at mag-blog kagaya ko.

Sa totoo naasar ako at hindi ako nakakuha ng leak. Given na ‘yan. Sa lahat ng review centers meron eh, sa amin wala. Powerful pa man din daw. Badtrip. Badtrip talaga.

Masyado din kasi ako naging nerd at ma-pride na sabi ko basta nag-aral ako kahit ano masasagot ko. Aba eh kahit anong tumbling ko hindi ko masagot ung mga industry standards! Sino ba ang adik na magmememorize nun? Nireserba ko kasi memory space ko para sa formulas, concept at operation hindi naman pala kailangan. Hindi tinanong eh. Yun kasi talaga ang importanteng alam ng isang ECE para sakin. Ang mga standard nasa manual at specs naman ‘yan come the time na magtatrabahao na. Sangkaterba pa nga talaga ang standards. Bukas makalawa may bago na din! Hahaha!

Iniisip ko din kung minaliit ko ang board exam, pero hindi eh kaya nga todo effort ako mag-aral. Well, expect the unexpected ika na at ayun, unexpected ngang tunay!

Sa totoo lang walang fair sa nangyaring board exam. Huwag na tayong mga plastik, ok? Bitter lang ang mga hindi nabiyayaan or ang mga hindi naniyayaan ng lubos lalo na ang mga salat talaga – as in zero biyaya (at least may pride tayo pero aanuhin ba natin yun, lisensya pa din ang pinaguusapan dito at kung passer ka ba o hindi).

First day palang ng exam kung sa review center ka na nagsisiumala sa P at nagtatapos sa C nag-review ay naambunan ka na sa ELECS. Second day naman malas mo lang kung hindi ka naka-enroll sa mga review center na nagsisimula sa E dahil naibigay sa kanila mga lumabas sa GEAS at EST. Kung hinidi mo na-absorb, iyak ka nalang. Sa math naman pag sumabit ka, hmmmmm… buti naka-graduate ka noh? Hahahaha! Pero mahirap din naman yun, baka minalas ka lang or kinabahan ka siguro ng husto nung nakita mo ang inverse laplace dahal hindi mo inaral kagaya ko. PEACE!

APRIL ECE BOARD, maghahanap na ako ng leak para sa’yo and mag-eenroll ako sa review center na cool at maraming pamigay na sagot.

Wala na sa estudyante at utak ‘yan, nasa review center at leak! Hahahahaha! Get real people. Bahala ka, ayaw mo ba ng lisensya? Since we can’t beat them and mukhang hindi naman magbabago ang PRC anytime soon, let’s just join them!

It’s been some time since I’ve last heard a Nelly song and I was pleasantly surprised to finally hear one again. I know I’m a tad late but this song has been playing over and over my music player. I actually wake up with it and jog along to its beat together with Usher, Taio Cruz and Bruno Mars. My morning routine is so pop! Hahaha!

Props to Nelly for putting up another good song and the music video is quite good too! One word – DREAMY. I like the fantasy in it and have I mentioned that it has some surreal underwater sequence? It’s only a few frames though but it’s great and as the video draws to its end, you’ll see this:

If you had a NOKIA phone before (like who didn’t), the hand gesture in this one sure looks like the startup splash screen. Agree? Hahaha!

…’cause your amazing, just the way you are.

Project Headshot: R.A.W. was launched a few days ago and is now (hopefully) making it’s way to a number of bloggers thanks to its very first advocates – Robbie, Dani, Jayvie, and Zia who came out raw and inspiring (with wit and humor to match) to all of their readers.

It is never easy to bare yourself to a number of strangers. The mere though of it makes us doubt. We doubt if we’ll be liked. We doubt if we’ll be accepted. WE DOUBT IF WE’RE GOOD ENOUGH. This resounding truth can be deduced with the initial reaction of people upon learning about the advocacy although generally, Project Headshot: R.A.W. was showered with support and much enthusiasm and on that note, thank you.

The essence of the advocacy is to actually make us comfortable with ourselves and coming out raw is a good start. I would want to believe that through this advocacy more and more people would start owning themselves based on the core principle that we are beautiful just the way we are and hence, the song from Bruno Mars. =)

Are you bold enough?

Care (or rather dare) to join the weirdest photo advocacy ever?

We are all becoming superficial that we miss the beauty in being flawed.

The world is in constant quest for perfection – it gets better by the day and as technology improves, the margin of acceptable error is minimized further. I believe that the same thing is happening with how we raise the bar for beauty.

Quoting from the TV show Magkaribal, “Beauty is a valuable commodity.” Although that statement can be easily argued, for me it only points out that we actually have to look good. Is there something wrong with that?

Looking good is feeling good and just as how your clothes give you confidence, your physical appearance empowers you to a certain extent. However, it is important to note that this is very different from actually turning yourself into someone you’re not – giving up to the pressure of how the world perceive beauty as something perfect just as in magazines and TV.

Yes, we have to comply but we do not have to lose ourselves. For one, this explains why most people love Glee. Glee tackles the loser in most of us with different walks of life but this ain’t Glee.

The point is, we are flawed in one way or another. We hide most but there is actually beauty in it because it makes us, us – unique (and at times weird) and this advocacy celebrates just that!

Project Headshot: R.A.W. is about embracing your flaws. It’s about claiming your RIGHT to own yourself and be in charge because your are beautiful even if you have flaws. It’s about being AWARE that we are all unique, being beautiful is feeling good about yourself too. Lastly, this advocacy is about having that WISDOM that our flaws cannot ultimately hinder us from achieving great feats!

R.A.W. = Rights, Awareness, Wisdom. Be proud, shed your masks off, be yourself, and be RAW.

CLAIM YOUR FLAWS, ADMIT IT, SHOW THEM AND OWN THEM!

Master your flaws and make good use of them! I, for one, have ill proportioned eyes complete with nasty eye bags. I look older than I should and my nose is not as flattering too but would you believe that I was crowned as Mister Ideal Thomasian Engineering Personality back in 2009? Weird huh?

I am also on top of my game in student politics which might explain why I look old! Hahahaha! I was fat before but I am fit and healthy now and I want to be a model and an engineer (help me Lord!) The point is, nothing can hold you back but yourself so start mastering those flaws today! Empowerment starts with accepting yourself not by being accepted by other people. The latter follows if you find yourself comfortable in what and who your are. =)

How to join

Are you ready to be RAW? Here’s how:

1. Take a COLORED, PORTRAIT image of yourself as natural looking as possible (no editing but you can visually enhance lighting and the sorts)
2. Sport your USUAL FACIAL EXPRESSION. No one smiles forever right? Don’t squint, don’t pout, don’t twitch your facial muscles much, just present yourself casually.
3. Make a blog post, post your image in it (BE PROUD!) and along with it, write something about your flaws and how you conquered it (or how you plan to)
4. A link pointing here would be appreciated but it is not necessary. I wish, however that you could send me an email or a comment at the very least to tell me that you joined the advocacy because I’ll be collecting the images!
5. Lastly, share the advocacy and inspire others!

NOTE: I am just taking my chances here and perhaps this is the first time that you guys would see a picture of me. I believe that as bloggers we have a social responsibility to respond to and although this may not be a pressing issue it is something that is socially relevant too. Blogs of all sorts are seen by many, we have readers and although this may be something out of your niche I hope that you could extend your support (not to me) of empowering your readers and audience. We have the power to boot minds, we have the venue to do it so why not do something? I don’t have much time to create banners or graphic art for the advocacy so anyone willing to contribute to this project is very much welcome. Just contact me and we’ll move from there.
