Little did anyone know then that a 12^th-round draft choice from a very nondescript draft class and who would play through the darkest days of Packers football since before Vince Lombardi arrived in Green Bay, would become a symbol of what is good about the Packers.

Donald Driver is currently under contract with the Green Bay Packers. Because of his age and the large volume of quality wide receivers under contract with the team, he is unlikely to produce at a level that justifies his current salary. Because he’s currently on a popular television show and his roster bonus isn’t due until the start of the season, the Packers have no reason to let him go or restructure his contract at the moment.

That didn’t stop Donald Driver from sending a tweet that freaked everyone out, caused people to read way too much into a nice gesture, and give his agent some unnecessary work to do.

Scout Day set for Saturday

The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and the Green Bay Blizzard professional indoor football team have partnered again to give youth scout groups a day of sports, history and fun.

Before the second-place Green Bay Blizzard take on the undefeated Sioux Falls Storm in a crucial conference battle on Saturday at 7 p.m., youth groups can embark on a self-guided tour throughout the Packers Hall of Fame that includes viewing the Packers’ four Super Bowl trophies.

For being a part of this fun-packed day, all scouts will receive an exclusive Green Bay Packers patch.

Following the visit to the Hall, groups can head over to the Resch Center for professional indoor football action. The first 1,500 kids 17 years and under will receive a Blizzard youth hat.

Packers, NFL offer high school players character and skill-development camps this summer

The Green Bay Packers and the National Football League are sponsoring four free football camps in Wisconsin, in Chippewa Falls (June 11-12), Milwaukee (June 14-15), Green Bay (June 16-17), and Stevens Point (June 18-19) as part of the NFL’s High School Player Development (HSPD) program presented by the National Guard.

Camps are open to all players entering grades 9-12 for the 2012-13 school year, and will focus on character development and specific football-skills training by position. Participants will develop awareness of some of the necessary skills needed to become a successful collegiate student-athlete.  All participants are required to bring both their helmet and shoulder pads.

The Chippewa Falls camp will be held at Chippewa Falls High School (June 11-12), the Milwaukee camp will be held at Wisconsin Lutheran College (June 14-15), the Green Bay camp will be held at the Don Hutson Center (June 16-17) and the Stevens Point camp will be held at UW-Stevens Point (June 18-19).

Additionally, 12 players from each camp will be selected to form a team and compete in the Green Bay Packers Regional 7-on-7 Passing Tournament, June 23, at the Don Hutson Center. The tournament winner will earn an all-expenses-paid trip to the NFL’s National 7-on-7 Tournament in Indianapolis, as representatives of the Packers. The national tournament will be comprised of 16 NFC teams and 16 AFC teams.
