My little cousin Sophia, the excellent artist, is sharpening her computer skills by creating these lovely animal advertisements. Animal advertisements? A cousin after my own heart! These are from her white animal period. Lovely!
Genius idea: my cousin Peter should take her to the local shelter and get some names and whatnot of some adoptable animals and she can make real-life adoption ads! Every little bit helps! GOD! I'm such a genius!

I know, my posts are getting a little less daily. Dudes, I'm like totally busy [sleeping] all the time. But! I will keep it daily-ish!

Guess what I did on Saturday? No, guess! WRONG. I went to a free showing of Fuerza Bruta! It's a crazy performance thing a la cirque du soleil. But you are standing the whole time! And they move you around and they pour water on you and hit you on the head with Styrofoam and confetti. And they put a giant plastic tarp/canopy thing over the whole ground and dance around in water. It was crazy. It was awesome. My only issue was that the women got in their underwear and were writhing around in the water above our heads BUT the men did not participate in this! And the men--oh the men--they were superhot. Like, I-want-to-see-them-in-their-underwear-hot.

Forgot to post today! So technically it's tomorrow but I haven't gone to bed yet as I'm quite the party. So really, it's kind of still today. But guess what! I have nothing to say! I know, how can this be, Megan Rascal? I don't know, it's partly because I'm emotionally dead and partly because I'm emotionally dead.

Oh, I can tell you what I wanted to tell you about moshing the other day. Moshing is a crazy violent type dance and my official opinion is that it's LAME. Now, let's get sexist: I don't want women in the mosh pit! It's dangerous and scary and most of the guys apologize when they run into a girl in the mosh pit so it's like, they don't want them there either. So when I was at this concert the other night, this one girl was dead set on being a part of the mosh pit even though the boys kept apologizing when they ran into her; so what does she do? GETS WAY CRAZY RAUCOUS. Like running into by-standers and stuff. I propose that it's to be down. Like the boys are treating you like a "girl" so you go and act twice as bad as the boys to be in the club.

Yeah so I'm totally sexist. Really though, I don't want anyone in the mosh pit. It's lame. But men violently pushing girls around... not my bag. Check it out, a bunch of bands don't like moshing either. Moshing sucks when boys do it too--why are dudes so violent! Someone give those boys a damn hug! I'm talking to you, dads. Hug your damn sons once in a while. Jeez louise.

Today we have a special report about PILLS. First of all, has everyone seen valley of the dolls? It's the best movie. In the movie "Dolls" is slang for pills. Why? I don't know but it's awesome. At the end, the one character is in the hospital and she just starts screaming and freaking out about dolls. It's the best.

I'm bringing this up because what's the deal with everybody? I take several medications because, well, because I am a special girl. Basically I take a cocktail of anti-depressants and they are super! They have helped me a lot. Like I totally don't try to kill myself! Yay dolls!
So I'm fine with my meds, I love them. Well constantly having to go to the pharmacy is annoying but once I get a stable housing situation, I can get the mail-order dolls and that'll be SHWEET.

Anyway so I'm fine with taking pills--it's a modern medical miracle! But I occasionally get crap from people about it. I've been hanging out with a lot of foreigners lately and they just don't get "America" and our pill obsession. They totally makes faces when they see all my pill bottles and just say "why? why? You Americans and your pills." I try to defend my point but they won't hear it! They've already made up their minds! I mean, I went to private school, I know medications are overly prescribed. But just because they are over prescribed doesn't mean that some people don't need them. Some people like me! Maybe some people end up with anti-depressants who don't need them but that doesn't negate how they really do help people.

So why are some people so against them? I don't know! My one friend from Romania was so upset when I told him I'm on medication. Meanwhile, he takes any and all (illegal) drugs he can find. He says my medication, however, loses my personality. This is what I always try to tell people!: the meds make me MORE myself than I am without them. Without them, you got all these crazy feelings and thoughts that aren't based in reality and they get in the way of you being able to relax and be yourself. Does that make sense? It makes sense to me, jerks! I asked my friend, would you tell a diabetic not to take their insulin? "That's different!" Is it? It's a physical, easily documented illness but still, some people dislike the idea of taking anti-depressants for the rest of their life. There are many physical illnesses where the non-afflicted would NEVER question someone taking medication their whole lives. They would never tell someone with this kind of illness NOT to take their medicine. Now how about a schizophrenic? Would you tell them not to take their pills? "That's an extreme!" No, it's not. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder and guess what, so is depression. Surprise! So, if medication is ok for one mental illness, why not another?

Here's the problem: depressed people aren't crazy enough for people. They call it "the invisible illness" for a reason. You don't get visible symptoms so people can't see the illness for themselves. But then again, there are many visible symptoms, they just happen to be self-inflicted. It's like, what do you want! You've got physical symptoms right there! What could be more physical than an eating disorder or cutting, or even an abusive relationship? But they are self-inflicted so they don't count as symptoms. I mean of course they do to doctors but not to these anti-medication people. And like with a physical illness, you don't just go treating the symptoms, you try to address what is causing the symptoms.

Even my pal Kevin, the other day he was asking just if I thought I might feel better not on the meds. That's all he said, he wasn't judging me like the foreigners but it was just in his voice, it felt like he was hoping I could just be off the medication and be better. Even that the medication was making things worse. Why is it such a big deal? Millions of women take birth control every day and nobody bats an eye! They even encourage it! Birth control is full of crazy hormones and are often much stronger than needed; they also have side-effects just as any medication does but no one tells me they don't "get" why so many people rely on birth control! I ask you!: what the hey? Am I wrong?

I kind of think of my medications like vitamins. Everyone thinks vitamins are great, no? What are vitamins? Well, they are things that your body can't produce on it's own but are essential for your health. That's what anti-depressants are! They help you get stuff your body can't produce on its own but that you need to be healthy. No one would question if I take vitamin D everyday for the rest of my life. I ask you!: am I wrong?

Another funny thing, as a vegan, all the non-vegans (foreigners included) are always trying to get me to take pills! Of the nutritional supplement variety, but still. They are so gung-ho about these unnecessary supplements but god forbid I take medication. Hilarious!

I'm in class. Being a jerk. Sike! I'm Megan Rascal! I'm always being great. I recently made an EXCELLENT mix for my friend Kevin. Notice I said "friend" Kevin--this is a distinction as I also have a "brother" Kevin. He's cool too. But my friend Kevin, Kevin Reilly, is my Art Director. My very own art director! All copywriters get an art director and he's mine. Some of the time. The rest of the time he's selling out at some ad company in Manhattan without me. LOOSER!
I'm going to take his mix in garage band and hook up a nice little edit everyone can download--look for it in a few. Days.

No, dummies, it's the face of Mitsy! Mitsy got a lot of camera time today as I'm still home and she's still the cuteness.
It's 12:20 in the a.m. as I begin this post. Tomorrow is already upon us! To take the daily pressures of a daily blog off my blady shoulders, I thought I'd go ahead and post a bit now.
ONE THING I was thinking about today, on tv tonight someone said something and some other someone was like, "that's a T-shirt right there!"
People say stuff to that effect like all the time now. Now as in "these days." Can you imagine if Mae West was alive now? Or really, if cafepress was around when Mae West was? Every time she said something, BAM! You got a T-SHIRT!
Here we got all these people writing all this dang time just to get into Bartlett's when all you have to do is say something and BAM! T-SHIRT!

So basically what I'm getting at, from now until I get bored, anytime someone says something somewhat interesting... "BAM! T-SHIRT!"

Big News, Jerks!

I have neglected all my fans. My bad. WHATEVER GET OVER IT! Let's move on. I have big news: from now on, The Daily Rascal will actually be DAILY. I am not telling stories! This is the real deal holyfield! Even if I just post a picture of my day or a tiny poem, this here blog is now a daily rag.

Now I will disclose some recent events to bring you up to speed:

Figaro has made himself at home with my parents in Philadelphia. He loves it there! He will never want to live with me again. He runs that house!

This is my new friend in New York, Luna. She's Spanish. We make it work. Luna makes me do all kinds of stuff like...

Go to some crazy fountain to watch Spanish people splash around after the World Cup. FYI: Spain won. Adoy.

And the Guggenheim for some crazy Beirut concert.

Next we went to a Rockabilly fest that was kind of AWESOME. This is Ruby Ann, super rockabilly singer and good friend of my other new pal, Penny.

This last one is from an outdoor movie we went to see: The Big Lebowski in the park by the Brooklyn bridge. Or... the Manhattan bridge. I don't know, I'm not a cartographer!

In conclusion: I hope you are all excited about this new development. Viva la Rascal!

Hey-oh! I am currently in Philladelphia, thank the lord. For those who don't know, I'm moving to Brooklyn for a few months. Yee-ha! There's a Miami Ad School location in DUMBO and I'm going to spend my 7th quarter there. Anyway so I put a lot of stuff in one of those Pod things but I still had some clothes and my dang dog that I needed to get over to the east coast--what was I to do? ROAD TRIP! My pop, Figaro and I set out on the open road last Sunday.

I tried to do some photo documenting of our trip. I'm basically a journalist now. I just took pictures from the car window but it's actually kind of a nice set because you can see how the terrain varies from state to state. I missed Ohio and western PA and another state...I forget which one but I remember that it was totally my dad's fault! Well at one point I was driving so I couldn't be taking pictures but then my dad was driving and it got all dark out! AND THEN! The crazy man decides instead of staying in a hotel on Wednesday like we had been doing thus far, he decided we should DRIVE ALL NIGHT. OMG IT WAS THE WORST. I thought I was losing my damn mind. My eyes were burning, I couldn't sleep and my legs were completely numb. And I couldn't document my trip! I mean, I'm basically a professional photographer, I need to be with my muse! If we had stayed in a hotel Wednesday night and left early Thursday morning--imagine all the terrain pics we could have had! My parents just don't take my work seriously.

However, like I said, I did manage to get a few shots:

Also, I hope everyone has noticed the blog looks a bit different. Google added a new customizable template thing and I gave it a shot. The really cool thing about this is that I was able to adjust the width of the main blog column! I'm always having to size my pictures lame and tiny but no more! They can now be a bit wider! Huzzah!

Gloomy Sunday.

This is the view from my apartment. It is a rainy, icky Sunday here in San Francisco. To top it off, I'm watching My So-Called Life on Hulu. Yeah.

I been thinking, do you think people can actually die from loneliness? Or maybe they are already dead and that's why nobody wants to be around them.

In other news, these are two songs I love: Lift Every Voice and Sing (aka the black national anthem) and Gloomy Sunday.

For some reason, these songs have always sounded similar to me. There's some part of it that sounds alike--am I crazy? It's around the "sing a song" part of Lift Every Voice, it reminds me of some part of Gloomy Sunday. It's a shame of course, considering Life Every Voice and Sing is supposed to be inspirational and Gloomy Sunday is about suicide.

My mom emailed me today about something very odd. Here is our exchange:

Moms: We got an envelope in the mail today addressed to you, mailed from San Francisco, with a folded up piece of notebook paper in it. nothing else. no return address. etc.
weird. know anything? taped closed.

Megan Rascal: omg? what does the paper say?

Moms: absolutely nothing. just blank. like there should have been a check folded up in it but it wasnt' there.

Megan Rascal: SO WEIRD

Moms: no clues?
as I said to Fred [my pops], no white powder spilled out ....

Megan Rascal: people are suggesting you hold the note under a black light. Maybe it's a secret message! Is the address hand-written or typed?

Moms: hand written. we'll look for a black lite.

There you have folks! You know as much as I do. Now figure out what's going on for me!

In other news, why don't I used colored text more? It's coooool. Also, I've decided satsumas are good luck! So if I give you one, it's either a sign that I love you or a sign that I think you're a screw up and need all the help you can get. For some of you, both.

Hey pals! I know I know, I been MIA. School started up again and I been busy! But guess what? I'm taking a visual storytelling class! Like, movies and stuff. Last week's assignment was to create a 7 second video. 7 seconds! That's not a lot of time. But I managed to come up with something! So here it is!:

This is my friend Kevin's 7 second movie, it was my favorite one:

I did the makeup! He looked very pretty for a brief period of time. A glorious period of time! What he says in the beginning is "I'm not my mother!" It got cut short for the sake of being 7 seconds. I'm hoping for an 8 second version where you can hear him more clearly.

Here we have 17 year old Megan. Notice a resemblance?
It seems people always think I look younger than I am. My friend Nicolia said it's a good time to start telling people I'm 24 to set up the lie for years to come. I don't get it! I've been waiting to be 28 for 28 years! But maybe this is going to be one of those things where when I start to look old, then I do get it and I'm all sad or whatever people are.
Whenever people tell me they thought I was 24 or whatever, I'm just like, "excuse me? Did you not notice my aura of maturity? That's a clue!" Maybe that's it though; maybe I don't look young, I just act young. That would be terrible! I was thinking recently though maybe instead of being 80 years old in my soul, the way I feel, I might only be 25. That's sort of when the most things fell apart for me and so maybe I stopped maturing then!
They say for alcoholics and druggies that whatever age they started using, that's their emotional maturity level. So if you started knocking 'em back at 18, you have the emotional maturity of an 18 year old. LAME. 18 year olds are the worst. Well, 16 year olds are the worst but 18 is next.
I think this is why I like being 28, because I hated being young. And really, I'm just killing time until I die so the older I get, the better. See, I AM goal-oriented!
