-Cut out piece of the Rambunctious
paper 4” x 5” and attach to card.

-Cut out piece of orange cardstock 2 ¼”
x 5” and attach to card. (I did mine slightly lower than center)

-Cut out piece of Suave paper 2” x
5”.

-Take cut out piece of Suave paper and
use the EK Success Notebook Punch along one edge.

-Attach Suave paper to card on top of
orange cardstock.

-Take the large flourish stamp from the
Portobello Road “Boy” stamp set and using Black Soot Distress
Ink, stamp onto a piece of white cardstock.

-Cut out stamped image 2 ¾”L x 2
½”H. Distress the edges of the cardstock and ink with Black Soot
ink.

-Apply large pop dots to corners of
white cardstock and attach to card in center towards the top.

-Take your Waterfall Stickles and apply
to dots on flourish image.

-I then took the Waterfall Stickles and
made dots along the upper edge of the Suave paper.

**Be sure to set this aside
somewhere where you won’t bump it so the Stickles have plenty of
time to dry!!

-Cut apart card at fold.

-Take one of the card pieces that you
just cut apart and trim ¼” off the top and ¼” off one side.

-Take the trimmed piece and stamp the
large frame oval flourish onto the center using black soot distress
ink.

-After the ink dries, leaving about a
¼” edge around stamp, cut out the image.

-Center cutout onto other half of card
that was not trimmed down and adhere.

-Taking scrap pieces of the patterned
paper, attach them to the trimmed down piece of card that had the
oval cut out of it. Be sure to trim the patterned pieces down so they
do not overlap or hang over into the oval cut out.

-Apply large pot dots to the corners of
the trimmed down piece of card and center it onto the other piece of
card and adhere.

-Cut three pieces of patterned paper,
two will be 4 ½”L x 1 3/8”W and one will be 4 7/8”L x 1 3/8”W.

-At one end of all three pieces of
patterned paper cut out a triangle shape.

-Take a black pen and draw stitch marks
around the edge of all three pieces of patterned paper.

-Randomly attach all three pieces of
patterned paper to your card, in whatever order you like.

-Cut a strip of the Rambunctious paper
1”H x 6”L.

-Determine where on card you want to
attach strip of Rambunctious paper and apply a strip of super
strength adhesive across area. I used the red sticky tape.

-Attach strip of Rambunctious paper to
one edge of card, leaving a small amount hanging over the edge, and
every inch you will pleat the strip. Continue this pleating across
the card. You should end up with five pleats.

-Cut three strips of cardstock, one
each of yellow, blue, and orange, 1 3/8”H x 5”L and attach in any
order to the card.

-To make the pinwheels:

-Take three
different pieces of the patterned paper and cut a 2” x 2” square
out of them all.

-At each corner cut
in 7/8” towards the center.

-Apply super sticky
adhesive to the center of each 2” x 2” square. I used the red
sticky tape.

-Take one point and
fold in to the center, pressing it down firmly onto the adhesive.

-Go to the next
side of the square and take that point and fold it to the center,
pressing it down firmly onto the adhesive.

-You will continue
this for the other two sides of the square. Repeat these steps on the
other two 2” x 2” squares.

-Pick one of the small stamps from the
Portobello Road “Boy” set and using Faded Jeans, Rusty Hinge, and
Scattered Straw Distress Inks (matched the solid cardstock I used on
the background) stamp the image once in all three colors onto white
cardstock.

-Cut out the stamped image and attach a
small pop dot to the back and apply to the center of the pinwheel to
cover the folded in points.

-Cut 3 strips of white cardstock to
make sticks/stems for the pinwheels and attach to card.

-Take the airplane stamp from the
Portobello Road “Boy” set and using Black Soot Distress Ink,
stamp the image onto the card.

A sign....

My creative mojo has been really flowing lately....Not sure if it is my
sudden lack of ability to sleep or what, but I guess it's not such a bad
thing. I've got all my classes done from now through June....LOL

Been messing around with Distress Stains a lot lately...Really love how
they work on wood....It's nice to be able to get a great background
color on the wood without having to break out the acrylic paints....And
the best thing: it takes one coat....no sanding or sealing of the wood
necessary!

Here is my latest result of dabbling with Distress Stains:

This wooden sign was based with Walnut Stain Distress Stain. I used the
Fanciful Flight die to make the butterfly. The butterfly's top layer
was made with grungepaper and the bottom layer was cut from a manilla
tag. The bottom layer was inked with Distress Inks in various colors
and assembled with the top layer. Then I filled in all of the 'wing
spaces' with Rock Candy Distress Stickles. This gives the wings an
almost transparent effect.

I really love the new Word Bands from Tim Holtz Idea-ology line. This
Word Band was rubbed with Pearl Paint Dabbers to make the letters stand
out. The Word Band was adhered to the sign using Matte Medium and hemp
twine. This twine has been my go-to embellishment lately. I love it
because it matches just about anything. I love this twine so much that I
decided to order it in black last week... LOL

Look for a class coming in May featuring the Distress Stains. We have a few colors available at the store at the moment, but more will be trickling in in the next couple of months. Stay tuned to the newsletter in the next few weeks for more class announcements.

Don't forget it's Double Punch week this week at the store. Spend $10 and get two punches on your Scrap Saver card! Woohoo!!

Happy Inking!!

I'm having a lot of fun making these wooden tags....This one is based
with Fired Brick and Wild Honey Distress Stains and allowed to dry.
Then, using the Wallpaper stamp from Tim Holtz CMS126, I embossed the
background with gold WOW! embossing powder.

Next, using
tissue tape and a cardstock circular base, I created a rosette. Then, I
used some Adornments from the Ideaology charm pack. To make them match
my background, I colored them with gold alcohol ink. I adhered the
wings and crown to the rosette using a strong adhesive such as Studio
Matte Medium or Glossy Accents. A Fractured Doll was adhered on top of
the wings and crown. Once the embellishments were set, I inserted a
memo pin and distressed Adage ticket (inked with Peeled Paint) behind
the rosette and adhered the entire circle to the tag. I finished off
the tag with some green lace and a crystal bauble.

Design Team member Sherrie alerted us to this new embossing powder company. WOW! is established across the pond in jolly ol' England, but they made their US debut at winter CHA! We've received our shipment and all we can say is WOW! We've got 30 stunning colors available to choose from. Earthtones and brights, pastels and glitters, these colors are to die for! And the best thing: they are only $2.99!! How cool is that!?! This allows you to try multiple colors and not have to shell out lots of cash!!

Look for a class in the next month using these powders...Sherrie's got a GORGEOUS frame using all kinds of cool embossing techniques and there will also be a wall hanging coming up in April....

Speaking of Sherrie, check out some stunning tags she made using the WOW! powders....

Distress Stains are one of my new favorite inky goodies. I love how it not only works on paper, but it also does wonders on wood!! :) So now you can alter wood ornaments, tags, and other decorative items easily. And the best thing is that you have 37 colors to choose from, including an awesome white AND don't forget that there are also Distress Inks, Stickles, and markers that match!

These tags are found in the back of the store and are very good for gifts, magnets, ornaments, or even bookmarks. The
first tag is based with Weathered Wood and Bundled Sage Distress Stain
and allowed to dry. Then, using the Wood stamp from stamp set CMS126, I
embossed the image onto the tag using brown embossing powder.

Taking
pieces of the foliage, I embossed them with various embossing powders
(white, purple, green, and orange) and allowed them to cool. The green
powder was Metalline Green from WOW! and is one of my new favorite
embossing powders. Using an ornate plate and an adage tag, I assembled
the title and adhered it to the tag using Matte Medium. Then, I adhered
the foliage to the tag with the Matte Medium.

This tag
was finished off using softer twine, which is one of my new favorite,
go-to embellishments. I love this stuff!! :)

Stay tuned to the blog for another sample later in the week!! :)
These markers have many of the qualities that the Distress Inks do. They react with water to allow for blending and shading. Use them to color directly on stamps . With dual tips, you can color and journal with one marker!

How cool is this!! So excited to play around with these once I get my paws on them!! And I would expect some classes involving them later in the year.....Just check out these gorgeous colors!

Also, look for expanded Tim Holtz embellies to come within the next month, with some of the new releases from CHA!!
So many cool exciting things are on their way to the Scrapbook Outlet!!

It wasn't until later, after taking a class off of Tim Holtz himself, that I discovered that Glossy Accents also makes a wonderful adhesive. It is uber-strong and works on heavier elements like plastics and metals. It works great as a glue on paper as well! And with it's precision tip, you can also write rather easily with it. Glossy Accents are definitely a must-have for your scrappy tool box!

Looking to get some Glossy Accents? Here's a couple of tips:

If the tip gets clogged, take a very fine gauged stick pin and slowly stick it in the tip, making sure not to force it.

If you use Glossy Accents as a glue and need it to set quick, here's a tip to quick set the item. For example, say you glued a paper flower onto a tag at a crop and needed to go home....It's not dry yet? As long as you are not using the Glossy Accents as an embellishment, but as a glue, you can sit on the project for a minute or so..(yes, I said sit). The heat from your body will quick set the project enabling you to move it or pack it up. Cool tip huh? (This tip is from a Tim Holtz class..)

After embellishing with ribbon, she adhered the paper creation to a tin candle plate. To finish, pearls were added to the points of the snowflake. What a great addition to any shelf or table during the winter!!

This year, we are making a resolution to make the time to blog! Last year, we were crazy busy and forgot about the poor little blog <sadface>. This year, we are going to post more samples, classes, and tips on this blog. And we might even have a contest (or two), so make sure you stay tuned to this blog for updates!

We've got a couple of awesome classes scheduled this month. First off, we have Jen's Cricut Seminar... If you received a Cricut from Santa, or just want to know more about the machine, then Jen's class is for you!

Learn everything there is to know about the Cricut with our expert Jen! Learn the basics, create a 2-page layout, 2 cards, glass etching on a mug, vinyl, markers and stamps! Bring Basic Tool Kit and your Cricut to class with you and a notepad to take notes. If you have the "When it's Cold Outside" cartridge, bring it along, but if not, you can borrow the store rental. Glass mug for etching, and all supplies are included! Saturday, January 21, 10-3pm, $40

(We suggest coloring the circles to blend with the paper.) Then, fan fold the pieces and adhere ends together, making fan-fold medallions. You should have 10 total medallions when done. Using a strong adhesive (Alexandra used a glue gun), start with a 1-3/4" circle and adhere the largest medallion to it. Then, adhere another 1-3/4" circle on top of the medallion. Repeat this process and as you stack, the medallions should decrease in size. The last 2 circles used between the medallions should be 1" in diameter.

For the top of the tree, diecut 2 stars, adhering them to each other. Decorate the stars with Stickles, metallic markers, or glitter.

For an added decorative touch, use a border punch on the paper strips before folding them. Or try making the tree out of dark green cardstock and using white paint or stickles to create snow on the edges! The possibilities with this project are endless!

Tim Holtz even has a version of this tree on his blog this week.
Using glue runner (cover fairly completely, especially the edges) or tacky glue. Use a thin layer of this, being sure to glue clear to the edges. Use your bone folder to smooth the paper as you put it on the box, working out the center to avoid bubbles. Glue top (A) and sides (B and C) to the box, leaving about 1/8" of the box showing around all edges.

Using a stiletto or large needle, punch holes in both top comers of all four sides.

Apply a strip of glue on the upper edge of the paper.

Begin placing the stretch lace 3/4" from the left side and wrap around the box, stretching slightly and pressing it into the glue as you go. When you get to the end, cut lace 3/4" longer than needed, fold it under and glue it.

Place a brad through the lace into each hole. Open them on the inside and press them flat with your bone folder.

Using "Walk in my Garden" Cricut cartridge, page 90, create the flower <stflwrs> blackout making one flower each in sizes: 3-1/2", 3", 2-1/2", 2", 1-1/2" and 1". Chalk or ink the edges of each flower.</stflwrs>

Using something round (I used the ball end of my small hammer, the end of my Cricut spatula and the end of an ink pin), and a 3" or larger square of stiff foam, place each flower upside down on the foam and press the round object on each petal, using a rotating motion.

After you've done each petal, turn it over and do the middle in the same way.

On the top right of the box, using 1/2" glue dots or tacky glue, layer 4" silk flower and the flowers you just made beginning with the largest one, shifting each layer so that you can see the petals on the layer below. Place the 2-1/2" shimmery flower between the layers of flowers.

When you have all the flowers glued down, put some tacky glue in the center of the flower and drop ten red seed beads in a circle.

Using "Plantin School Book" Cricut cartridge, page 76, use the flower <flower> to make two flowers each in sizes: 1-1/2" and 1-1/4" and one flower in size 1". Chalk or ink the edges of each flower.</flower>

As in step 14, round the flower petals all on the right side and the center of the flower so that they form a cup.

Use tacky glue in the center of the flowers, beginning with the largest one, shifting each layer so that you can see the petals on the layer below. They will form a cupped flower.

When you have all the flowers glued down, put some tacky glue in the center of the flower and drop eight gold seed beads in a circle.

Using "Plantin School Book" Cricut cartridge, page 76, use the shift <leaf> to make three leaves in size 2-1/2" and two leaves in size 1-1/2".</leaf>

Using your swirl stamp and the olive green ink, stamp each leaf and then chalk or ink the edges.

As in step 14, round the front side of the leaves and pull the tool toward the point to elongate the circle so it looks like a leaf.

Nestle them into the edge of the large flower and glue them down with tacky glue.

Glue the leaves on using tacky glue or glue runner.

To make the butterfly, use two 1-7/8" x 1" scraps of paper. Use a punch, decorative scissors, or freehand the decorative edge of the wings.

Cut at an angle leaving 7/8" in the middle. Fold up 1/8" of the middle.

Glue these two 1/8" pieces together, one on top of the other. Cut a 1-1/8" x 1/4" tube for the body and a 1/4" circle for the head.

Chalk wings, body and head. Using tacky glue, glue the wings to the box at the middle section only.

Glue the body onto the middle section. Draw two antenna on the box and then glue the head on.

Last year, we got some paper mache witch hats in here at the store. Let me tell you....I love paper mache...It's probably one of the most versatile surfaces out there! You can decoupage, paint, spray, spritz, cut, ink, and glue on this stuff and it holds up....really well in fact. It's a blank canvas and it's amazing how two people can start with the same item and have two totally different results....

Jen's is the orange hat. She painted the brim of the hat black and the top orange. Then, taking a spider stamp and black ink, she stamped little spiders all over the top of the hat. Cutting a round circle out of patterned paper, she decoupaged it onto the brim. She then hand cut a witch out of another sheet of patterned paper and 'pop-dotted' it on the hat. Then, Jen finished the hat off with some prima flowers. Pretty cool huh?

The purple hat was painted purple with acrylic paint and then were inked with a black archival ink by Ranger. Then I took a Tim Holtz stamp and stamped a little texture around the brim with the same black ink. This stamp gave the hat an 'aged' look. After stamping was completed, I spritzed the whole hat with gold Perfect Pearls Mist to give it a little shimmer and dried it with a heat embossing gun. (And don't worry...The archival ink won't run or bleed after it is wet.) Then, I took some Prima ribbon and wrapped it around the bottom of the hat. I then glue the same type of Prima flowers from Jen's hat to mine. Finally, I inked a Tim Holtz ticket and stuck it in the hat with a memo pin. Voila!

Both of these hats took less than an hour to complete and they are also an easy project to do with the kiddos! The hats come in two sizes a 6" and the 12" that was used in the above projects!

Crop.....definition: a collection or group of persons or things appearing or occurring together. In this case, a fabulous gathering of scrapbookers (and from time to time, cardmakers) who want to join together and complete their projects....

Personally, I find crops refreshing....It's nice to hang out with a wonderful group of women (and sometimes men) that have a common interest. Picture working on a layout and having a case of "scrapper's block". It happens to the newbie and the seasoned scrapper alike. Normally, I would grab a magazine or hop online to see if I can get my creative mojo going again...But, if you are at a crop, you have an advantage....Because no two scrappers scrap alike, you can get all kinds of fresh ideas and techniques in one night. It's no odd occurrence to see scrappers walk around the table and browse the projects, asking questions about techniques and design....What a great way to get rid of a case of scrapper's block!! We've even had crop attendees do mini demos! And another advantage: you are at a scrapbook store. Run out of glue or need a different color of paper? No worries...It's all right there at your fingertips! And the best thing, you even get a little discount at our crops! How cool is that?!

Crops also are a place to get away from daily life for just a bit...a place to take a breather...Come work on scrapbooks, cards, sort pictures and supplies, or just come for the chatting and friendship....In all the crops I have hosted, I have met some wonderful, dear people, who I am honored to consider dear friends...

We always have a blast at the crop. We play games (sometimes silly), eat good food, win prizes, and laugh....It's always an absolute blast!! There's definitely never a dull moment!! :)

For all you ghouls and goblins out there, our annual Halloween Crop is coming up Saturday, October 15 from 3-11pm. It's always a blast to see everyone show up in their favorite costumes. Last year, we had a cow, the wolf from Lil Red Riding Hood, a pair of salt and pepper shakers, and Flo, from Progressive. The year before we had witches, cats, and Bella from Twilight (whom I portrayed, but was mistaken for Howard Stern...LOL. And looking at the picture on the 'Wall of Fame' at the store, I definitely look more like Howard Stern...hehe) We'll have a prize for best costume and of course, prizes for games, good food, and great friends....

So come join us for the Halloween Crop on October 15! Can't make it then? Be sure to keep checking the e-mails for the dates of the next crop!

For this and more inspiring layouts, be sure to stay tuned to this blog.

I have a large ribbon bag with probably 100-150 different ribbons in it. The ribbon bag is made of a clear vinyl-like material with holes punched it so the ribbon can be threaded through. The majority of the ribbon stays inside the bag and a little sample is outside for you to see. The best thing about this purse is that it will 'smash' down in to bags. My ribbon bag is always the last thing I pack in my rolling tote, it always goes on top and is always smashed, but the bag holds up well and the ribbon is protected.

But what if you're not a ribbon person or you want to keep the ribbon handy at your work table? I recently bought about 7 different colors of the same ribbon to use on a current project. I wanted it handy, yet organized. At the store here, we carry these craft doll pins. I took each of my ribbons and wrapped them each around their own pins and threw them in a basket on my table. Easy and inexpensive because I bought a dozen of these for less than a dollar!! And when you run out of the ribbon that is on the pin, you can recycle it and use it again!! How cool is that?!?!
