Due to recent media coverage surrounding chemicals and how they can affect the body, many people are decreasing the amount of chemicals they are exposed to and have made changes in various parts of their lives to achieve this. Saltwater hot tubs offer a great option for those who fall in this camp. They are virtually chemical free and might be a great choice for you.

There are some basic differences between a saltwater hot tub and a conventional, chlorine-based tub. Salt-water hot tubs will often use Bromine instead of chlorine, which has fewer odors, a more neutral smell and tends to be less harsh on the skin and eyes. Salt-water can actually be better for your spa since you should not have to use powders to clean it. Since the Bromine keeps it clean and bacteria free, fewer harsh cleaning agents are required for regular upkeep.

The skin benefits of ocean water have been talked about, and girls even use salt water to style their hair!
Saltwater spas have far less salt content than the ocean, but the same great benefits from the saltwater including those that help your skin, stress levels, and overall health.

Hydrotherapy in saltwater is cleansing and will leave your skin feeling smooth and supple. It increases moisture retention, rejuvenates the skin by detoxifying and promotes cellular regeneration. Salt water also reduces the inflammation of joints and muscles, leaving your body relaxed and stress free. It contains bromide, which helps relieve muscle pain and soreness. The minerals in saltwater also offer health benefits. The potassium present in salt water is beneficial because your blood needs it after exercise. Magnesium helps in making your nervous system healthy. The sodium in salt water keeps your immune system in check for appropriate fluid balance in your body. The calcium helps in keeping your bones and teeth healthy.

Saltwater Systems for New Hot Tubs: SpasAndStuff.com offers the Gecko in.clear® salt bromine generators for hot tubs that use sodium bromide to produce free bromine in spa water, using a chemical reaction similar to that used in a saltwater chlorine generator. A big feature of the bromine salt generator is that the salt content in the water is much less than a salt chlorine generator. With the in.clear® system, it is around 1,400 ppm, compared to a salt chlorine generator system, which is typically more than 2,000 ppm. The lowered salt level is an important benefit because not only is it a less expensive option, but it also reduces the potential for corrosion, which can be a concern in saltwater environments under certain conditions.

Saltwater Systems to Convert your Hot Tub: We now offer compact saltwater chlorine and bromine generators, so you can convert your hot tub to saltwater sanitizing. The same units work with sodium bromide to generate bromine, or sodium chloride to generate chlorine. Whether you choose to convert your hot tub to chlorine or bromine, there is nothing like the soft water feel of a saltwater hot tub.

Spa Lifts - Hot Tub Access for the Disabled

Lift your hot tub experience to the next level and make sure your spa is compliant with the new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The regulations have changed and commercial spas and hot tubs have to make small changes to stay within legal limits. We have some exciting and innovative ADA Compliant Pool and Spa lifts to keep your community hot tub available to everyone, including those with disabilities. It also is a great option for those owners that have users that might need spa assistance so everyone can have a good time.

Based on 2010 regulations, all public accommodations including hotels, resorts, timeshares, and more must bring certain elements of their facilities into compliance with the 2010 ADA standards as of March 15, 2012. Congress passed sn extension has been granted for pools, but don't wait. Manufacturing and shipping lead times can be as long as 8 weeks.

Spas, wave action pools and leisure rivers, wading pools and sand bottom pools all need one ADA Compliant Access point. Spas must have a pool lift, transfer all or transfer system. If you have multiple pools or bodies of water, the Rebel Portable Pool and Spa Lift or Scout Pool & Spa Lift might be the perfect option to serve different areas.

In order to confirm your current spa lift is ADA compliant, make sure it has a lifting capacity of at least 300 pounds. A manually cranked or manually rotated lift is not ADA compliant. An ADA Compliant lift is a full power lift with controls that the user can manage on their own

You can review the entire new requirements at the ADA website here. (http://www.ada.gov/).

SpasAndStuff.com has many great options for ADA Spa Lifts to meet your specific style and needs. Our qualified staff can help figure out the best option for your hot tub set up, as well as offer free shipping in the 48 states. Everyone is carrying reusable grocery bags, using reusable water bottles and saving energy at every turn. What can you do to make your hot tub more eco-friendly and green? Most environmental improvements require little effort and are relatively cost effective.

Some awesome ideas to help your hot tub or spa “go green” are:

Keep your hot tub covered when it is not in use. Make sure you utilize your spa cover when the spa is not in use to help keep the water clean and prevent heat and chemicals from escaping into the air. Your spa cover should be free of tears and cracks, and contain thick foam. If your spa cover is damaged, you can check out our great selection of replacement hot tub spa covers.

During colder weather, close the air valves on hot tub jets. Many hot tub models draw air into the water lines to increase the massaging pressure of the hydrotherapy jets. If you leave the air "open" when you close the hot tub after use, cool air will be drawn in when the hot tub circulates and this will increase the amount of time your heater has to operate to keep the water hot.

Circulate the water on low speed. Some hot tub models use a separate low-speed pump that runs constantly to circulate water. These specially-designed pumps operate on very low horsepower, which keeps monthly electric bills to a minimum while helping maintain healthy water in the spa. They also help recycle the heat as they redistribute the warmth given off by the pump to heat the water. This will help reduce your overall energy consumption.

Reuse the hot tub water for other areas. Since hot tubs need to be drained about every three months, depending on how often you use them, this is a great deal of water waste. Draining the hot tub helps get rid of contaminants. To avoid an average of 500 gallons being wasted, you can use this water to irrigate your lawn. Just be sure to not add any chemicals to the water for at least three days prior to draining.

Any little thing you can do to help save the earth is appreciated by future generations. Hot tubs are great additions to the backyard or home, and there are ways to make them green like the rest of the things in your life. Email us green ideas to keep your hot tub earth friendly?

Inflatable Hot Tubs - Love 'Em

Inflatable hot tubs are one of the most popular options for those on the go. You can take them with you camping, to the cottage, tailgating at a football game and wherever else you might go.

To use the inflatable hot tub, you simply inflate it, fill it with water, plug it into a 110 volt power supply, let it heat up, and you have a wonderful relaxing hot tub. If you love getting people together, there is no easier way to attract people to your backyard than with owning a hot tub. Spas are relatively easy to use, but there are many bloopers out there teaching people what not to do. Before you learn these horrible experiences on your own the hard way, we will help so you don’t have to make these mistakes on your own.

The following are several “don't's” when it comes to hot tub use:

Don’t Dive
Hot tubs are relatively shallow and this diving explanation seems like something that should not have to be posted here. The problem is when people see water, some automatically turn into an Olympic diver. Diving head first into three feet of water is never a good idea.

Don’t Fall Out of the Hot Tub
If you spend a great deal of time relaxing in the warm waters of your hot tub, you may find your muscles are loose and more relaxed than ever when you exit said spa. Make sure you go slow so that you don't fall upon exiting. Stairs can be slippery and there could be water everywhere.

Don’t Drink Too Much Alcohol
Because the hot water in a hot tub causes your red blood cells to dilate, it increases the absorption of alcohol into your blood stream and multiplies the effects of alcohol on your system. So use caution when enjoying the libations and again, watch the exit!

Don’t Get Trigger Happy on the Temperature Button
Make sure you focus on a comfortable, hot spa temperature instead of overdoing it. It can harm your health if you aren't able to handle it. Take note of the recommended hot tub settings and don’t make your tub hotter than that. US regulations limit a hot tub to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Don’t Forget To Keep It Clean
Have you ever been excited to hang out in someone’s hot tub and noticed how nasty the water looked before you got in? So you made an excuse like you had a birthday party, mother’s anniversary or work meeting to get to. Make sure to keep your water clean by keeping the sanitizer at the proper level at all times. The warm water of hot tubs can provide an ideal breeding ground for potentially harmful microorganisms if we did not initiate and maintain an effective sanitizer system to control them. Make sure you keep it clean so it is an enjoyable experience for all.

This list will help you have the most enjoyable hot tub sessions and parties in 2012, without the embarrassing mishaps that might make the top viewed YouTube videos. Check out www.SpasAndStuff.com for our latest hot tubs and accessories to make your outdoor hot tub the top place to hang out. Your hot tub should be one of the main focuses of getting ready for winter, as it offers a supreme winter escape from the cold weather and snowy conditions. Using your hot tub in the snow is one of the greatest times to enjoy all of the amazing, warm, soothing health benefits of owning a hot tub.

Many people particularly look forward to using their hot tub or outdoor spa during the cold months. You can find snowy hot tub pictures in our customer pictures section. While this time might be one of the most enjoyable to use your hot tub, there are some things you can do to prepare it to ensure it operates properly in snowy conditions. You want to ensure your hot tub has the maximum energy efficiency, especially if you live in an area that has freezing conditions.

One of the main things you can do to protect your hot tub in the snow is to prevent the water from freezing in the piping system. This can cause major damage and is easily preventable. Most portable hot tubs and spas have a system that is designed to prevent the water from freezing in the pipes. Modern hot tubs have a freeze protection system built in. It typically functions by turning the pumps on and circulating the water if the system senses the water temperature is too cold. The circulating water should not freeze and your pipes will be protected until a service technician can repair the cause of your hot tub water not heating.

Despite the icy and cold conditions, there are ways you can help your hot tub remain energy efficient. The colder the temperatures are outside, the longer it will take to heat up the spa. At www.spasandstuff.com, we sell hot tubs that are perfect for Northern snowy climates. With high R-Value expansion foam in the hot tub cabinet, and a thick cover to hold the heat in your spa, they are very energy efficient and should not be a big cost on your energy bill.

One of the best things you can invest in is a quality insulating cover. Make sure you remove any standing snow on the cover during the day, as they are not meant to hold excessive weight. If you have ever shoveled a driveway you know that snow gets heavy! We sell the perfect tapered cover, as they are tapered for rain and snow runoff. Hot tub replacement covers can be a great investment if you live in a snowy climate. Old, heavy, water-logged covers have very little insulating value.

We suggest cleaning your spa prior to the cold, snowy months, which will help get you through until the end of winter. So take these easy steps to winter ready your hot tub and you will be enjoying one of the most exhilarating moments of being a hot tub owner—sitting in the spa while the snow falls around you.

How To Find the Right Hot Tub The First Time

It can be a daunting process to find the right hot tub once you decide to make that big leap. You want to make sure you get the right one, and don’t get a headache in the process. Here we will give you some tips on how not to get soaked when buying a hot tub, and find the right one the first time.

Tip 1 – Find a hot tub dealer that will help you with questions AFTER you buy the hot tub, not just before you get it. This is one of the most important parts of buying a hot tub, and make sure you find a dealer that you can trust. You want a company that will help you with water tips and advice, even after you set up the hot tub and begin enjoying your first soak, to make sure you will be happy for many years to come. Don’t fall for pressure at a random location, but make sure to do your homework and find someone that has a strong standing business with good referrals or reviews.

Tip 2 - Be weary of expensive add-ons and shipping costs when buying your hot tub. SpasAndStuff.com offers free shipping on all of its hot tubs, taking care of one of those costs that can add up in the hot tub buying process.

Tip 3 – Don’t buy a hot tub at a fair or carnival, where you see allegedly great deals and extremely pushy salespeople. You need to do your research before you make this big purchase, and be able to ask a knowledgeable person about hot tubs, costs and cleaning. Fairs do not offer this. Also, they are normally run by companies that move onto the next fair the next day, leaving you with a lot of questions and no one to call.

Final Tip – Don’t buy your hot tub on craigslist. Sure, you could get lucky and think it’s a great deal. The problem is the reason people are selling their hot tubs on craigslist.com is because they make be really expensive to heat or they cannot get the water clean and clear. SpasAndStuff.com thinks they are missing out on an amazing opportunity to enjoy your hot tub even when it is over 100 degrees outside. Hot tubs can be the best place to cool off during the hot summer months.

Hot tub owners can do a few things to keep the water cooler in the summer months. Start by turning the temperature down below 85 degrees. Your heater won't even cycle on. You can also remove the cover, turn on the jets on low, with the air flow open, and the hot tub should cool down a bit, at least to the level of ambient air temperature. To maintain the colder water, keep your hot tub covered on hot days so the sun doesn’t directly heat the the spa water. If possible, you may uncover your spa during the night to take advantage of the cooling effect of the cooler night air.

When it’s all said and done, you have a miniature soaking pool that is easier to maintain, and is the perfect size for a refreshing soak if you don’t have the space for a large, costly in-ground pool.

Another great benefit of cooling down your hot tub is the cost savings. Since you are setting your spa temperature very low, your spa heater will probably not cycle on at all, significantly reducing the monthly cost of electricity to run your hot tub. So as soon as the temperatures rise, run out to your hot tub and great ready for "summer mode." A cool hot tub, some ice cold lemonade and your closest friends and family sound like the perfect summer investment to me.

Just another reason to jump on the bandwagon and buy one of the great hot tubs from SpasAndStuff.com! With the numerous uses for a spa, you are truly running out of excuses, aren’t you? Let’s enjoy a refreshed, invigorating experience, while staying cool during the dog days of summer.

Salt Water Hot Tubs are more Popular than Ever.

Salt-water hot tubs are all the rage!! This very popular and growing trend is virtually chemical-free. Many clients ask us questions about the difference between salt-water hot tubs and regular chlorine hot tubs. We are here to clear the fog about these hot tubs, and why they might be the right choice for you!

The following are some of the differences between a salt-water hot tub and a conventional, chlorine-based tub:

Our Salt-water hot tubs use Bromine instead of chlorine, which has fewer odors, a more neutral smell and tends to be less harsh on the skin and eyes.

The water feels better. Saltwater spas are much like soft water and it seems they may be less drying to the skin.

Salt-water can actually be better for your spa since you do not have to use powders to clean it. Since the Bromine keeps it clean and bacteria free, fewer harsh cleaning agents are required for regular upkeep.

Hardware on chlorine hot tubs may face more risk of corrosion when exposed to sunlight, than on Bromine sanitized spas. This occurs in only certain conditions if the unit is placed in a sunny area, please keep this in mind.

A few skeptics have compared salt-water hot tubs to the ocean. The salt in a salt water hot tub is only 1500 to 2100 ppm of sodium, while the ocean has tens of thousands of ppm of salt.

SpasAndStuff.com offers the Gecko in.clear® salt bromine generator that uses sodium bromide to produce free bromine in spa water using a chemical reaction similar to that used in a saltwater chlorine generator. A big feature of the bromine salt generator is that the salt content in the water is much less than a salt chlorine generator. With the in.clear® system, it is around 1,400 ppm, compared to a salt chlorine generator system, which is more than 2,000 ppm. The lowered salt level is an important benefit because not only is it a less expensive option, but it also reduces the potential for corrosion, which is a concern in saltwater environments under certain conditions.

So if you're planning to buy a saltwater hot tub, saltwater spa, check out our options at Spas And Stuff, where every day is a Sale!

Make Your Hot Tub Cover Last

Hot tub covers can help save you money, as well as time on cleaning. You should always cover your hot tub or spa when it is not in use, and also when you are warming it to conserve energy and warm the hot tub quicker. Take care of the hot tub cover and it will last for many years.

The following are some useful tips from www.spasandstuff.com to help your new replacement spa cover last:

If you are in warmer climates or a sunny state, a quality UVA/UVB vinyl protectant is mandatory to ensure your cover if protected from the scorching sun. Just as you would protect your skin, your hot tub needs sunscreen too! Apply the protectant three to four times a year to help save the cover from the damaging rays of the sun. Do not use Armor All brand protectants since they contain petroleum distillates and can damage vinyl over the long-term. A quality soap or marine application protectant is good and will help preserve your cover.

If you use Bromine in your hot tub, try to keep the level used to a minimum as the gas can cause peeling on the underside of your spa cover. It will also make the cover brittle and fall apart quicker.

Leave your cover open or completely off for an entire jet run cycle of at least 15 to 20 minutes so the expelled gasses can escape each time you shock the spa. This will help protect the underside of your cover as well. It will also help clear the water for clarity and cleanliness. No one wants to enjoy a murky hot tub!

Always inspect the cover for cuts or holes in the vinyl, especially if they are breaching the inner plastic vapor barrier. This plastic envelopes the foam core, helping keep the cover dry and in tip top shape. Even a small hole in the cover will allow moisture to slowly seep in and the cover will get heavier and heavier. Once the Styrofoam becomes saturated and heavy, it is ruined and does not have much of an R-Value. In order to fix the plastic, make sure the cover is dry and you can use good quality clear postal mailing tape to seal the hole back up. Keep an eye to confirm this area stays dry every time you use the hot tub.

Finally, you can remove the foam cores in the cover (most zipper out at the hinge) to flip them over. Once you put them back in, this should help reverse a sag in the cover if you have one. You could do this once a year (or twice a year if your hot tub is seven feet or bigger). This is a great time to also inspect the plastic vinyl cover for any additional holes and repair those as well.

We hope these tips help you preserve your new replacement hot tub cover. If your cover has various holes and needs to be replaced, we have many hot tub replacement covers with free shipping to choose from at www.SpasAndStuff.com.

Enjoying Your Hot Tub in the Rain

Spring showers bring fun adventures in hot tubs, as long as your hot tub is equipped to be enjoyed during the weather elements. One of my favorite moments in a hot spa tub is to enjoy it in the rain, without a cover. I know, I know…what about my hair? But who worries about their hair in the hot tub?

Whenever I see the rain clouds, I secretly smile as I know my afternoon will have the ultimate of relaxation in store for me. As it begins to sprinkle, I climb into the portable hot tub, allowing the cool, soothing raindrops to fall on me as the hot tub keeps me warm and cozy. At that moment, life could not get any better.

Many of you probably find comfort in the sound of rain, but would not enjoy the rain splashing in your face as you try to relax with some hydrotherapy in your home hot tub. For those of you who fall into this category, there are a plethora of options to protect you from the elements while allowing you to enjoy the soothing sound of raindrops. With April showers upon us, hot tubs and rain go hand and hand as both provide the calming sounds and feelings of relaxation.

Hot tub enclosures can be great for those with extremely bad weather elements as well. Spa umbrellas are a perfect accessory for your SpasAndStuff.com hot tub. While under the umbrella, you can still enjoy the sound of the rain without having to get your hair wet! Remember…a hot tub can turn any day, rain or shine, into a relaxing and enjoyable experience right in your backyard.

The Art of Buying a Hot Tub

As the snow begins to melt and the “spring forward” clocks move us out of winter and into the thawing months, our minds always go racing towards hot tubs. This is my favorite time of the year to relax in the hottub outside. When it is still cold enough that the outside air forces you to jump into the warm draw of the steam, but not too cold that your feet disappear in snow as soon as you get out, somehow a hot tub just feels perfect right about now.

Springtime. Spring-cleaning gives you the opportunity to make changes and get rid of those things that you no longer use. It might also make you begin to plan for summer, when you will be entertaining and having friends and family members over for back yard bar-b-ques. A hottub is the perfect gift to give yourself for all of that hard labor. Hot tubs are the ultimate "prescription" for relaxation and relieving stress after your spring cleaning.

The following are several key things to consider when planning to buy a hot tub for your backyard:

Consider investing in a model with stereo and speakers built into the unit. Although it might add a bit to the hot tub price, the frustration of elaborate wiring and extension cords to get your stereo to play outside is something worth missing. Plus the quality of the sound is excellent. There is a remote control on the top side of the hot tub to change the volume, channels and everything else without having to leave the comfort of your soak.

LED lighting is also something to consider. These are normally small lights around the top of the hottub that beautify your relaxation experience. They can lock on a single color or change colors, but they also make the hot tub easier to use when it is dark outside. A win-win situation for everyone because these LED lights are completely pre-wired into your portable hottub, versus trying to wire rope stringed lights around your hot tub.

Additional things to consider are hot tub and spa accessories. You can also purchase a hot tub cover lifter to make opening and closing the hottub a one person job. You may want to add a set of storage steps, a towel tree, or a freestanding bar with bar stools to make your portable hot tub experience one to remember. Drink caddy anyone?

So now that your house is clean and you are exhausted from vacuuming the house all day, head over to SpasAndStuff.com to purchase a gift that never stops giving…a portable hottub! Then you can reward yourself with unlimited amounts of relaxation time, anytime you want to. You deserve a portable hot tub!

A Hot Tub or Spa for Romance

February is the time of year, as we approach Valentine’s Day, that we start thinking about how we can add a little romance to our lives. And every year, they are forgotten by February 1st. We at SpasAndStuff.com think resolutions need to be more fun. So the following are our version of your top five New Year Resolutions for Hot Tub Owners, or those planning to buy a hot tub:

In 2011, we will not try to fit more than 12 people in the hot tub at one time. Big crowds equal big messes, so try to limit your hot tub guests to the nearest and dearest in the New Year. You never really liked your cousin Bobby that much anyway.

I will replace any old hot tub parts before they completely break. If you see something wearing down, replace it before it begins causing bigger problems somewhere else.

Cleanliness is important for any hot tub to be happy. Hot tubs love being taken care of. And they get awfully mad when they are dirty. So make sure you rinse and change your filters every often.

Cover your hot tub when it is not in use. For one, you don’t want your hot tub to get dirty during its down time. See #3. And two, you don’t want any Hot Tub Gang Members to use your tub when you are not home.

Use and abuse your hot tub this year. Use the hot tub during parties, when you get home from a hard work out, when you need some serious relaxation time and for a nice evening with your wife or girlfriend. Hot tubs were bought to be used so enjoy it with every last ounce of joy in 2011.

We would love to hear any additional hot tub resolutions you can provide. If you are planning to buy a hot tub, have any questions about your hot tub, or need hot tub or need spa accessories, please visit us at SpasAndStuff.com.

The Craziest Places To Put A Hot Tub

I bet you have been in many backyards and enjoyed hot tubs either on the deck or the patio. But did you know that people put them in airplanes? Today I’d like to talk about some of the crazy places people put a hot tubs, hoping to spark your creativity prior to your big purchase. Okay, some of these will just be plain wacky, but I hope they inspire you to channel your inner Diddy.

1) The back of a yacht. Most of the elaborate yachts in the world have a sun deck with a hot tub for parties, enjoyment and relaxation. Equipped with drink holders and headrests, these hot tubs make for some great time on the water. Jay Z and Beyonce enjoy relaxing in the yacht overlooking the waters of the Caribbean, while Diddy parties with hot women popping bottles of Cristal.

2) In a limo. Many limos with retractable roofs include hot tubs to make the experience more enjoyable. Relaxing in a hot tub while rolling down the Strip in Las Vegas can be one of the most memorable nights in someone’s life. Proms, bachelor and bachelorette parties and extravagant celebrations make the perfect time to spring for the limo with the hot tub. If you own a limo company, this might be a way to make your company stand out from the crowd.

3) Hot tub on a plane. Do you remember the movie Soul Train? In that movie, there is a hot tub on the plane. It makes you think of what the future holds in the commercial airplane industry. Private jet owners are already enjoying the lavish experience of hot tubs on a plane. During long cross Atlantic flights, the rich and famous can enjoy the health benefits and enjoyment of all a hot tub can offer. So John Travolta! Even the BMW Group dressed the Boeing 787 Dreamliner with a big-screen theater, cocktail bar and gourmet kitchen, not to mention the two levels of living space that will include a sauna and gym.

Have you seen any other crazy places people put hot tubs? Have your own spa experience at home.

Does Someone Want To Buy Katherine Heigl a New Hot Tub?

Knocked Up actress Katherine Heigl and her husband’s hot tub got them in a little trouble this past Monday. Word is a neighbor called the police about loud noises coming from their hot tub. The police came out to investigate and decided no crime was committed. So was their spa on the fritz or were the two of them having a little too much “fun” that night? It turns out the complaint was about the sound coming from the hot tub. Investigators showed up and found no crime to be committed.

The hot tub won this battle but will there be more in the future?

Hot tubs are normally relatively quiet and go unnoticed by neighbors, save a few laughs from the general direction. . Hot tubs relax people and encourage social gatherings and great time together. In rare instances this can cause unwanted noise if too much alcohol or too many people are involved.

So how do you make sure you’re on the right side of the hot tub noise equation? Our best rule of thumb is to invite your neighbors over for a soak every once in a while so they begin to see the hot tub as an enjoyable and much needed staple in your backyard.

perezhilton.com/2010-10-13-katherine-heigl-and-josh-kelley-have-issues-with-neighbor-over-hot-tub-noise

And if anyone knows Katherine Heigl, tell her to visit www.spasandstuff.com for her next hot tub if hers (or she) is being too loud.

Can I Get A Hot Tub?

Many people are talking about the recent State Farm commercial where three guys each make a wish to their State Farm representative. The third guy ends the commercial with a “Can I get a hot tub?” with a hot tub landing in the middle of the living room. (Watch the video) With this, we have yet another mainstream media example of how hot tubs are fun, relevant, and the stuff of people’s dreams.

As you probably remember from my last post HERE, the movie Hot Tub Time Machine brought hot tubs back to the status of national celebrity. And as Mike “The Situation” on Jersey Shore signs a new book deal and commands a salary of $60,000 per episode, he and his fellow housemates each pamper themselves with a soak in the hot tub at the end of each day. If that isn’t the essence of luxury and self-indulgence than what is?

Hot tubs are making their comeback now. And each time a hot tub appears on the television, I bet you envision yourself in one as well (perhaps not with the Jersey Shore crew though). An entertainment focal point, hot tubs are calling our names again. Whether it's for relaxation, entertainment or health, there is no doubt that with all the hot tubs you are seeing on television and in movies, that you don’t get a slight fascination or need to have one of your own.

So next time you yell out “can I get a hot tub?” just make sure you give SpasAndStuff a call for a great discount price on a top quality hot tub spa.

How Hot Tub Time Machine Brought Back Hot Tub Love

How Hot Tub Time Machine Brought Back Hot Tub Love

For many people, hot tubs have always been thought of as a sort of “party in a box”, a way to get people together for some relaxation and good times. Then came the movie Hot Tub Time Machine. What a better way to bring together the 80’s, Hot Tubs and John Cusack?

The following are five reasons Hot Tub Time Machine brought the “cool” back to hot tubs:

  1) The extreme excitement when son Jacob first saw the hot tub.

You walk into your cabin in the dead of winter, tired, exhausted and ready to hit the hay. You take a look around each room, check out the kitchen, then head out to the deck to take a look at the lake. And there it is.

A hot tub.

Your whole personality shifts from tired to excitement as you change and take a dip. Are hot tubs exciting? You bet. People pay a premium for whirlpools, spas, and hot tubs while staying at hotels and rental cabins all over the world.

  2) Hot tubbing is the one-time men will hang out half naked and be okay.

Men are terrified of being “uncool,” so hanging out half naked with their friends is out of the question…most of the time.

Except when it comes to hot tubs.

Men will pile into a hot tub with beer and hang out for hours. And hot tub Time Machine reminded men of this. Conclusion: Hot tubs equal quality man time.

  3) The movie Hot Tub Time Machine actually brought hot tubs to the top of mind for most of those that forgot about them.

Some say hot tubs had their moment during the 80’s, when they became an object of fascination and gave the owner “street cred.” And this movie made naysayers remember why people love them so much. Hot tubs, spas and saunas are making a comeback. With many options and countless health benefits, portable hot tubs are popping up in backyards, hotels and cabins all over the country.

  4) Hot Tubs bring people together.

All it takes is a new hot tub to have your home transformed into a more social, inviting place. Every one of the main characters in the movie jumped in the hot tub without a hitch. People enjoy sitting in the portable hot tub, spending time with friends, family, and love interests – just hopefully not at the same time.

  5) The fact that a hot tub turned into a time machine. Enough said.

While we can’t sell you a hot tub that is a time machine, you might want to take the main focal point item out of this movie and move it into your backyard. Maybe a true hot tub time machine isn’t possible, but the fun and excitement you saw thought the movie is. SpasAndStuff.com can make your hopes of owning a hot tub into a reality. There is even a hot tub with TV so you can watch the movies while enjoying your hydrotherapy.

2010 Buyers Guide for Hot Tubs - What to Look For in a Hot Tub

Easy Access
Your hot tub purchase isn’t for just one season, so considerations for maintenance and repair should be included in your purchase. Look for easy access to equipment. Years ago, it was typical to “jam” a spa cabinet with foam, but like everything else mechanical, heat buildup is an issue, so look for insulation where its needed – like surrounding plumbing lines, but make sure there is air space for equipment and that its easy to access. No matter where you live, a better insulated hot tub will save you money. Quality hot tub insulation should not be an option or an upgrade; it should be a standard feature.

Standard Parts
Believe it or not, Exclusive is bad in the hot tub industry. What it’s really saying is that you can’t get parts from any other supplier. There are several companies that make readily available high quality parts. All manufacturers use third parties for parts; however, if purchased in volumes, the manufacturer can request custom variations to ensure repair parts are purchased from them. One company even positioned the motor frame at an angle, so that you can’t buy a standard part, so you are held up for their price.

Avoid “Blowers” and “Air Only Jets”
Although popular years ago, most good manufacturers have abandoned powered air blowers and “air-only” jets. Air blower orifices can be sources of dangerous airborne mold and bacteria, since they can't be effectively sanitized by the treated spa water. Blowers quickly cool down the hot tub water, wasting large amounts of reheating energy. They are also loud, sounding like a vacuum cleaner. Air only jets make bubbles, but they don’t really provide true massaging hydrotherapy. Modern spas have air-induction jets which mix air with water, so separate blowers are unnecessary. The addition of air can be turned on and off. When the air is on, this creates a more powerful massaging action from the jets.

Warranty
Although, the length of a warranty on the hot tub should not be the primary reason for buying, warranties are hidden "insurance policies." It is built into the price of the hot tub. Typically, the least expensive hot tubs have a one year parts and as little as a 90 day labor warranty. This is for one reason; it helps to make them affordable. Even a mid-priced hot tub should offer you a longer warranty on parts and labor. Watch for hidden costs such as deductibles, pro-rating and service call trip charges.

Ergonomics
At some point you may want to sit up higher and cool down, especially in summer. Look for a higher seat, which typically doubles as a step, and possibly a flat surface on the upper edge of the spa. These areas can allow a person to cool off, while still staying in the conversation. Those rounded edge shells are a poor seat for those that are looking to relax and cool down. Also drink holders can be useful to help minimize spills in your hot tub.

Phony Awards
As we currently understand it, there are NO valid awards given to any hot tub manufacturer. The so-called awards are nothing more than paid advertising. Consumer's Digest logo used on brochures, NSPI awards, and “Star Ratings” from Pool and Spa are offered to advertisers who spend enough money with these organizations. Typically they never even look at the product.
The consumer will be better served ensuring the hot tub they purchase is approved for sale in their country by an agency such as ETL, TUV, or UL. These ratings means the entire hot tub has passed the various tests, from shell strength to electrical wiring. This is commonly not the case on hot tubs imported from China.

There are many high quality hot tub manufacturers in the USA. Do your best to compare the list of features you will receive for the price you will pay. And check the reputation of the company you are purchasing from. There are better retail stores and better online stores. You will typically get your best deal from a reputable online hot tub dealer.

Common Myths in Hot Tub Sales

<align="left">Open Cell Foam vs. Closed Cell Foam:<style="font-weight: align="left"> Many hot tub salesmen will profess they have a particular type of foam insulation, typically closed cell foam insulation. This is not really an identifying feature, but for hot tubs, an industry standard. The fact of the matter is everyone who uses foam insulation in the hot tub industry uses closed cell polyurethane foam. Open cell polyurethane foam does exist, but in the form of "foam rubber", great for cushions, but for insulating hot tubs, not so much. The reason closed cell is used for insulation is that the foam is a cluster of trapped air cells that act as a poor conductor of heat. The quality and amount of foam insulation are factors that will effect your hot tub electrical usage. </style="font-weight:></align="left">
For example, when a lesser quality closed cell foam is exposed to the chemically treated water of a hot tub, in many instances the foam's cells can "open" and allow water saturation. This can lead to a hot tub that weighs significantly more following a leak, and when the "dead air" inside the foam is replaced by water, a lowering of your hot tubs "R factor" occurs.
Horsepower equals Value?
This may be irrelevant, for what really matters when evaluating a pump's performance is the "head" of the pump, a rating that has more to do with flow than actual horsepower. So unless you salesman is familiar with flow or the nozzle math, he will be little help. Try to compare GPM (gallons per minute) and note the quantity and sizes of jets. Too many jets on too small of a pump will equal week hydrotherapy .
Power consumption:
Most hot tubs are used heavily in the first ninety days and then use tapers to "normal" after that. As a result, your first few months are a poor representation of the total cost of hot tub ownership. Also, higher priced tubs do not necessarily translate to lower costs of operation. Yes they may have higher quality components, but they may have little impact on energy efficiency. The best way to determine the average cost is to do the math...
A rule of thumb is to take each appliance that the hot tub uses and read the label, e.g.
115V 2.0 HP motor @ 3.6 amps draw
Now using the Volts x Amps = power (watts)
That translates to 115V x 3.6 amps = 414 watts or .414 KW
So at 10 cents per KWH and if you run the hot tub pump 8hrs a day
.414KW x $.10/KWH x 8 H = $ .3312 per day or $ 9.93 per 30 day month
Now that is just one component. Remember, you are told that "This hot tub will only run you $10 a month in electricity”. It is only partially true, for that one component (say one pump during daily filtering) will cost you $10/month in electricity to filter, but remember there is cost associated with lighting, heating, summer VS winter, and more pumps during use with the cover off.

Top 10 Reasons to Own a Hot Tub

1. Relaxing: think of how you can relax in a nice warm quiet bathtub. Now move that hot tub of water outside for the fresh air. Then make it larger, deeper, add the massaging actions of hydrotherapy jets and add a heater. Hot tubs are all that and more.

2. Muscle Massage: The best hot tubs offer you a variety of seat depths and designs. You should find a variety of jet styles and jet positions in each seat and the jets should be adjustable. The hot tub pumps will also typically have low and high speed, and you should be able to turn the air on/off to increase/decrease the strength of the hydrotherapy jets. This allows you to pick just the right seat, with just the right jets, at just the right strength, to massage away those stresses of the day.

3. Joint Pain Relief: The full body heating effect that you get in hot tubs feels great. I think we all know that the application of heat is a common treatment for various aches and pains. Why not do it while you float away stress in your very own hot tub spa.

4. Improve Sleep: Relaxing in a hot tub raises the body temperature and enhances your ability to fall asleep. Evening soaks help to promote restful, uninterrupted sleep, which allows you to face the next day fully refreshed.

5. Limbering Up: The hot water in hot tubs decreases muscle tension, which allows greater flexibility. You can also stretch better when you are buoyant in the water.

6. Gathering Place: Flip open the hot tub cover, start the jets, and watch how family members and friends migrate to the hot tub for a soak. What a great way to enjoy some "quality time" with the children or grandchildren.

7. Post-Op Therapy: We hear from many folks every year who are buying hot tubs to help them recover from surgery, often for back or leg problems. Some folks are fortunate enough that their insurance company will pay for a hot tub if they have a prescription from their doctor. Hot tubs provide hydrotherapy rehabilitation which may help patients get back on their feet faster.

8. Starting the Day: Imagine a morning refresher that includes a soak in your very own hot tub, while listening to the birds chirp and watching the sunrise...coffee optional.

9. Lifestyle Statement: Your new hot tub can be part of a backyard Showcase. Turn on the LED lighting and fountains, and the hot tub becomes a centerpiece for backyard parties. Even if no one gets wet, a hot tubs beautiful appearance and soothing water sounds become the center of attention.

10. Entertainment Zone: Invite friends and family members to watch home movies while relaxing in the hot tub. This is particularly fun if you have a hot tub with built in TV, such as our BellaGrande SLT. Of course you'll want a best quality hot tub stereo too, with a built-in sub-woofer.

Spas And Stuff offers great discount hot tub prices every day. You may be glad you did.

Car or Marine Stereos instead of Proper Spa Stereos
Car stereos and most marine stereos are not suitable for hot tubs because they have cooling vents in the chassis. These vents can let moisture in that will ruin the stereo (an outdoor hot tub is a moist environment). But these stereos are attractive to cheap factories as they are very inexpensive. A common practice is to tape over the vents and hope the stereo does not overheat in the hot tub. Spas And Stuff uses proper hot tub stereos, designed for spa installation, with a sealed chassis and heat syncs for cooling.

Extruded Acrylic instead of Cast Acrylic
Continuous Cast acrylic is the industry standard for the best hot tubs. Less expensive brands use extruded acrylic to save money. Although they appear to be the same from an aesthetic standpoint, extruded acrylics are much thinner than cast acrylic. They are also prone to crack easier and will fade over time. Spas And Stuff hot tubs use cast acrylic.

Frame Construction
For best quality, a hot tub frame should be made from construction grade lumber, as ours are. We also use pressure treated lumber on all parts of the frame that would come in contact with the ground. Lesser brands will use cheap 2x2’s that are commonly used for strapping in construction and not for structural purposes. 2x2’s are generally cut from the center of the log and are more prone to warping. Some companies market steel frames. Although they look nice, they are made from a very thin steel. Properly built wood frames are stronger than steel and will not bend or rust.

Screws (non-coated or capped)
Our screws are coated to JS500 hours salt spray exposure standards to ensure that they will not rust. Many manufacturers use coated deck screws that will rust in a short period of time, and that will look terrible on your hot tub cabinet. We also cover our screws with a decorative cap to ensure that they match the hot tub cabinet.

Heater Element
Our heating elements are made form an 825 incoloy element to resist corrosion from chemical imbalances in the water and reduce the chance of calcium build up on the element. Incoloy heater elements last longer and operate more efficiently than standard heating elements.

Hot Tub Cover Quality
An area that is often overlooked when purchasing a hot tub is the quality of the "free cover." Check the specifications to ensure the hot tub cover has a vapor barrier, adequate skirt length, thick marine grade vinyl, at least a 1.5 lb foam density, and that it is tapered to provide for water runoff. Even a well insulated hot tub can cost more to heat if the cover isn't good quality.

Plumbing Shortcuts

Smaller piping - allows for okay pressure if the hot tubs are built with smaller jets, but you may not have nice water flow overall.

No clamps on jets - Just gluing the water hose to the back of the jet mount.

No glue on jets - Just clamping the water hose to the back of the jet mounts...our hot tub factory both glues the hose on and then clamps it, to prevent water leaks.

No silicone on spa jet mounts - fast method, use only preformed silicone rings to seal the jets mount to the spa shell. Our spa factory uses both liquid silicone and silicone rings. It takes longer, but practically eliminates the chance of a leak.

Hot Tub Water Testing
This is very important, especially if you are buying factory direct hot tubs. Our factory water tests every hot tub to ensure it does not leak and that everything works correctly. That means when you start up your new spa, it should work properly. In contrast, lower quality mass production factories may only water test every 10th or 20th hot tub.

Spas And Stuff offers great discount hot tub prices every day.
