AMERICA'S MOST WANTED: John "The Prick" Boehner

Who elects these people anyway? If the likes of John Boehner and Michelle Bachman (just to mention a couple of shameless nut cases) actually get elected by vote and by the people... one is left to wonder what do the people they represent and vote for them look like. In other words, if this are the sane and "responsible" ones, what are the ones that elect them like? I can see Michelle been elected by the patients at the asylum she comes from. What state is she from again? Kind of scary if you think about it... planning a vacation in country anytime soon?

While I was making this caricature of John Boehner I kept feeling that it looked like someone very familiar and peculiar. It just hit me when I saw it posted... remember Fantasy Island? Does he look like Tattoo or what? Or is it more like Billy Bob Thornton, What do you think?

AMERICA’S MOST WANTED: Michelle “Crazy” Bachman

We started the “America’s Most Wanted” series with Joe “The Snake” Lieberman thinking that hands down he will be the ultimate most wanted champion. Come to think of it, it may not so easy... Here comes Michelle "Crazy" Bachman to give Joe a run for his money. I'm kind of thinking of framing the most obvious "Most Wanted" characters out of the way first and than move towards more subtle choices. Something is bound to jump here and there along the way but for now she's most definitely in the hall of fame and well deserving of a spot right on the top of America's Most Wanted list. What do you think?

AMERICA’S MOST WANTED: Joe “The Snake” Lieberman

Perhaps no one is more fitting to start the “America’s Most Wanted” series than Joe “The Snake” Lieberman. This guy almost single-handedly added the straw (or should I say the whole haystack) that broke the camel’s back. It was interesting to see his expressions at the state of the union address when the cameras surreptitiously centered on him while the subject of serving “special interest” was being addressed in the speech. He’s now officially the poster-child for the subject of government corruption. Way to go Joe.

I’m still debating what the reward amount should be. Any ideas? Be mindful that in the Michelle “the alarmist” Bachman poster the reward is $ 0.25.

Oh, no the sky is falling!! Do they mean that the sky is falling again? “Democrats” are now running around all panicky and feeling destitute about losing the 60-vote filibuster proof majority… yeah, like they had it just before and look what happened. I mean seriously, what’s the difference? In my mind the “wake up call” had already come when we all came to realize that “special interest” and “money” rule above all. We saw the very democratic majority we thought we had elected (the mandate) to effectuate “change we can believe in” being the ones who most effectively blocked and derailed healthcare reform. It seems like unless you take “cold cash” (like the kind you hide in the freezer) as a bribe you can get away with it like in the case of Joe “the snake” Lieberman (to mention just one snake). I’m in no particular mood to sound “activist-like”; I don’t like it but these are such basic things and they are actually as bad as they sound. It’s like a comic book out there, and once again, reality is crazier than fiction.

“Frankly” speaking, what the voters in Massachusetts actually said is “We already have insurance so screw you”. I mean really, as much as they like to complain about it, they are all covered and of course they where not voting to take out “their own” health insurance but just for the rest not to have it. And it makes sense on the basics of course, why pay “additional taxes” to cover everyone else when you’re already covered? I mean really, and that’s the bigger irony aside from the other irony that it was Ted Kennedy’s very own seat. What are the odds that all of that would come together, right at this junction of the debate? And no “God” has nothing to do with it; and no, there’s no message to Washington; and no, the “republicans” have not been proved right in any front. And let’s not be masochistic either. If the democrats, obstructions or not (and this is not child’s play), have shown that they cannot govern effectively… that should not mean that we should now re-elect the assholes that fucked it –and continue to fuck it all up in the first place.

So now what? Well for starters if the only shameless philosophy in Washington is going to be about winning or losing rather that the common good (or the serving the people thingy) then the “democrats” are going to have to play hardball (and it’s about time). One thing that the republicans got right (if that’s the game that in the end we all have to play) is that they have no conscience. The guidelines for being a prick are easy to follow and apparently they work. Shame on us of course but when it comes to doing the work of the people why not be an asshole? I mean really what’s there to lose? And what’s the point of running around all “sensitive” and afraid of everything? If you are going to lose either way, why not at least get something good done; something that generations afterward would appreciate. The means to an end thing. And why not play by their rules, the cause is good and they are not playing by ours anyway. I can live with being an asshole for a good cause, Can you?

Frankly Speaking... KRAASHH!!

In practical terms the bill now being considered may be too big and twisted (after all the bizarre deal making who really knows what’s there and how it would affect us) that we may be better off passing bits and pieces of it (up and down votes). At a minimum they should pass a basic “patient bill of rights” and get rid of the preexisting condition and dumping customers when they get sick. These are not –or shouldn’t be- legislative issues (like what’s there to negotiate and/or with whom?) but of basic principals of law and fairness. These are basic rules and laws most people would agree on. We can all be cowboys all we want, but even in the Wild West there was “the law” to protect the “law abiding majority” against those who, rather than making it on their own prayed on the others. And back then they used to “hang” horse thieves.

We’ll see what happens in the end (and there are many people of conscience on capital hill). But if we all finally came to the conclusion that Washington is “completely” screwed up, corrupted and useless, then we’ll perhaps see something else emerging. Grass-root technology-enabled initiatives to get around “government” and take advantage of the immense business opportunities that will emerge within the default of government. We’re in many ways on our way there already (we’ll see what happens with Google vs China in the long run). All that is needed is this kind of “additional motivation”. The opportunities may be enormous; we’re resilient and innovative. After all, this is America and there’s plenty of socially conscientious entrepreneurial-spirit to go around.

Young minds and the technology they dominate had made a difference in the past election… but stopped short by thinking that someone as smart and noble as Obama may make the difference. So maybe it is not possible to change Washington, but maybe we don’t need to. Maybe it's time for a real change, a change we can believe in and actually do something about it.

I had this cartoon finished way back when we were going rogue with Sarah right after her book came out. It was meant to go after the “cavewoman” Geico-like commercial. I figured back then that she will end up with a “Jerry Springer” -like show of her own. Well same thing, she ended up at Fox… the prediction still works. Anyway, this is what I wrote…

I guess that in the end Sarah wins… and she’s laughing all the way to the bank. She, like any other red-blooded American is just cashing in on the “lottery ticket” she won after being picked up as the VP for the GOP “ticket”. It’s always about the money (just follow the money trail). She may be ignorant, but she's not stupid (she's taking a ride on "everybody" including the teabaggers). Let me guess the conversation around the kitchen table back in Alaska. Let’s see, shall I serve the people, actually work for a living, do all the homework and study to catch up with everything I have never paid attention to… and then get scrutinized by peons, accused of ethical violations, misconduct and not be able to cash in for fear of scrutiny or maybe even facing some kind of legal prosecution? Hmmm, Or simply quit, make millions, become a stupid celebrity and not work for another day in your life? Tough decision, ha? Anyway, she’s just doing what any “hockey mom” would do… and after all, this is America, right? Nothing wrong with making money.

No worries, though. She will never get elected to a public office of any kind and she knows that… and of course she does not want to either (and we all know that). She will never survive it; she’s not capable. After all, she was responsible for the loss of the election for McCain… or would have IF he actually had a chance. The loser and the big time idiot here is McCain. The old man simply had a “senior moment” and single-handedly shot himself and his own “Country First” motto right in the foot. Was America ready for an African American president or did McCain’s screw-ups just tip it over? Probably not, but one wonders what would have happened if McCain would have provided some people a better excuse by choosing better (just anyone else). Anyway, we’ll never know of course… but in any case we should be grateful to her because she made it impossible for it to go any other way… thanks Sarah.

As per Sarah, more power to her… she’ll cash in for a few more years, get caught in some scandal and end up pissing off the base or just fade away as she should... and then some other political bimbo will take over her “crown” (Miss California?) and that will be that…

Okay, okay!! We get it!! Scorched earth politics, just do anything and everything to defeat your enemy and make them fail at any cost. Nothing is sacred, not even your nation’s security, all that matters is to defeat your enemy and win power; which begs the question (time and again) and then what?

In the end of the day Dick Cheney is nothing more than an irrelevant out of power megalomaniac (egomaniac) with a book coming out. And as far as his legacy is concerned it’s a done deal, history is pretty astute, and he cannot change –no matter what- that 911 happen on his watch and that there were no WMD found in Iraq (among other things).

It is time perhaps for us -and the liberal media that feed into it- to IGNORE Dick and the rest of the scorched earth lunatics and move on to a more responsible and relevant discussion. Don’t fall for the tactics of distraction which more often than not come from the most likely places (have you noticed the price of gas lately?) and spend your energy on something that matters and makes a real difference (but don’t be apathetic in the next round of elections and act on your rightful indignation in the election booth). And just leave the lunatics for the comedians where they belong.

I’m a conservative?
But what does it mean? From time to time I have asked my conservative friends, especially when they start to make disgruntled noises (moaning), to qualify (quantify) what does being a conservative mean? What is it? Like, in concrete terms what is it? I get the standard answer: less government, less taxes, right to bear arms, etc and that’s about it, nothing specific, applicable or tangible…

Well, after this whole healthcare debacle I finally got it. I was looking for symptoms and issues rather than looking at the core (the affliction), and now it all make sense. Given my “liberally mavericky” ways of daring to have a social conscience I’ve dared to have an expectation of at least basic fairness and common practical sense (never mind social justice) in healthcare reform and of course it was a disappointment. I was sitting there thinking, 'how can things be this way?' Is there any social conscience of any kind? Is it just about money and power… me and screw you?

It kind of works this way - imagine the Wild West, two cowboys traveling in the desert, a rattlesnake bites one of the cowboy's horse and (through no fault of his own) the horse tosses him over and he breaks his neck. Both are sitting there (horse and the cowboy) in pain, unable to do anything and asking for help. So this is the deal, the other guy friend, if he’s a conservative, will simply say, “tough luck, it could have happened to me… but it didn’t.” If he’s a “compassionate conservative” he will shoot the horse (to put it out its misery) but most likely take all his friend’s stuff get on his way and leave his friend to die (and if he's very very compassionate shoot his friend as well). Basically (and I’m serious) the moment you get sick and ask for help at that moment –no matter how responsible or how much of a contributor to society you have been- you’re not an American anymore. You are not a good American, you’re unpatriotic, and you do not love your country (I'm serious still). If you simply try to “think ahead” and make it equitable, compassionate or even just practical and civilized then you’re a socialist and that's it, nothing in between (and that’s what they are saying, at the top of their lungs). I thought that they were crazy but they are not, they are just cowboys, they want to live –and die- in the Wild West. It’s simple, if you have a social conscience you’re a social-ist, if you have no conscience then you’re a conservative.

So I get it as far as the big corporations are concerned, but why are some of these losers at the bottom of the food chain so adamantly opposed to getting help? Well, many live under the illusion that they may make it big and that for as long as they can keep their guns and go postal when things don’t go their way than they are fine.

I don’t have a problem with the American dream part as I have realized it in my own measure. I have always been on my own and have not needed nor wanted anything from anyone. I love this country for all of what it is. I buy into the idea of opportunity and I really don't care much for the Europe of social democracy, but how about being clever and practical? How about making it fair and on merit rather than on meanness. How about just regulating madness and exercising common sense. I thought that the days of the Wild West were long gone, relegated to movies and western novels, but I was wrong. We, as a society have come a long way since those days (and of course there’s no going back like there’s no going back to the middle ages) but to some that’s an uncomfortable feeling, its too complicated and you set yourself up for disappointment.

We all need to live someplace in our minds and of course it makes sense and its simple. You’re on your own, good luck! For as long as you can take care of yourself by any means and keep on the top of the food chain that’s fine. If you’re not tough enough or your luck runs out, well that’s too bad then, the best we can do is pull the trigger for you and like a horse, put you out of your misery.

The problem with being progressive is that you create expectations and guess what; you get disappointed. The moment you understand that you should not expect anything then it’s easy. Just let us keep our guns so that when someone screws us at the very least we can go postal and get even (again, I’m still serious). I can see the comfort in that; just worry about yourself and who cares about anybody else. There's no disappointment when there are no expectations. And again, we all need to live someplace in our heads.

Okay then I can live with that, but if I’m on my own why on earth then do we need a military and why on earth do we pay so many and so much in taxes? I mean last time I checked I was getting fried no matter who was in office. I mean if we’re going to pay that much in taxes what are the benefits? What do we get in return? So why don’t they give us our money back (all of it) so that we can buy more guns and take care of ourselves? But of course, the IRS itself is another hungry for-profit cowboy-like corporation in its own right and not that much different than the health insurance industry. They just have bigger guns and therefore they can screw us all they want. So really, cut our taxes. I mean everyone’s taxes, not just the big corporations; make it a more of a level field and I’ll become a conservative, no problem. If we’re just going to be condemned to stay middle class and pay all the taxes (anyway) may as well –like our European counterparts- reap the benefits, right? And if you want to call it socialism then, just be my guest. Oh, and as per having a conscience part, I’ll just find Jesus… and of course pray so that it does not happen to me.

So, get it straight, like really “really” cut taxes or at least balance the budget… then at least it will be a reasonable choice. If you want to be a cowboy that’s fine. I like it and I appreciate it myself (I even like guns). But how about just not being stupid? There’s nothing worse than a stupid cowboy. If you profess yourself a conservative, then be a conservative but you can’t have it both ways. And jeez, stop complaining!! That’s completely un-American. Oh, and if you get those religious fanatics out of the equation then I’ll become a conservative myself. In the mean time it's not over yet and -while we have big enough guns- lets just fight a little harder for our rights or at the very least to get our money’s worth (conservative or otherwise). We’re all getting screwed so what’s the point of arguing with each other?

It’s Christmas anyway so I would like to say something like “Peace on earth and good will towards men” but that’s communist talk…so go and screw your self instead (just kidding of course happy holidays).

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

The avarice never ends! "I want golf clubs. I want diamonds. I want a pony so I can ride it twice, get bored and sell it to make glue."

Why is it that I can so easily see a scene from the godfather (or any other mobster movie) where the wise guys meet with the “elected official” and work out a deal?

Okay "lover boy" (Lieberman means lover man in German), you do this for us, and we will make it all worthwhile for you, your family and every Lieberman generation there after. We know that you’ll piss “the people” off; and that you will never get reelected no matter how much money we through into your campaign (this time) but not to worry we'll take good care of you afterwards. Heck just with the extra money we’re going to make it’s no bother... So what do you say? Oh, and we’ll through in a guarantied life-long health insurance policy... Free of charge of course. No bother there either the taxpayers are going to be paying for it anyway. Hmm, so what do you think he’s going to do?

Like, let me see, Lieberman is from Connecticut, the health insurance industry capital of the world, and he is sitting at the epicenter of the biggest gain or loss that the health insurance industry has ever seen; a jackpot of thermonuclear proportions...hmm, let me think? Furthermore he’s not a democrat but rather a well know hypocrite (the other big party in Washington); and is not like he has not been telegraphing his punches; “HELLO!!” He ran against his own party ticket for God's sake!!

So what did we expect? The one “political flaw” that may be beginning to emerge with Obama is that he may be too politically naive because -unlike president Clinton- he expects for people (politicians) to have a conscience and to do the right think; and of course they don’t. Clinton was a better politician perhaps in the regard that he expected for politicians to do the wrong thing; and they did. Not sure if it is time to leave our collective consciences at home (hard call), but maybe we need to stop being naive and play hardball (while we can).

What's that stench? It's fantastic. It’s green eggs and ham… I guess. Now don’t get sick.

American Foreign Policy

Foreign policy it’s a little like a Rubik’s cube, to solve the puzzle requires careful thought, patience, strategy and foresight. Acting “emotionally," on impulse and without thinking tends to –like in the cube itself- mess things up and harder to resolve. You can’t really solve it either with a one face at the time narrow approach, and for those of you who have done it, you know how easy it is to mess one face up (color or country) while trying to get another face together. As you know the puzzle is not easy, but it is solvable; and of course there’s a method to it. Even so, it is a long, comprehensive, thoughtful, and systematic method that requires smarts, patience and foresight. Being decisive and invading Iraq when it was not even in the “defeating terrorism” puzzle messed things up with Iran, left Afghanistan open and made Al-Qaeda stronger. Bush -even if he was well intentioned- took the narrow approach and perhaps solved the Iraq face (time will tell), except that Iraq was not even in the cube's puzzle to start with; and Bush was at the top of his game. Not that it's going to happen but one can only imagine what a Sarah Palin would do after a couple of tries at the puzzle, and once she reaches the edge of her “mavericky” brain capacity...and then she goes for the bible; to show her "the path." BBRRRGGGHHH!!!

Who knows, maybe it takes a “dithered” -think before you act and all the way though- approach to solve it? Maybe, of course but it is worth a try...although only time will tell...

Political Bimbo

Okay, with all do respect to women and only as it pertains to politics, Sarah Palin is not that much more than a “political bimbo.” Can someone please point out to me what else is going on here? What are her qualities? What public good or purpose can she possibly serve? Let me put it this way, “She’s NO Eleanor Roosevelt.” Yes this cartoon is sexist…we’re going rogue and making an exception for her but it is intentionally sexist mostly to make the point. Ask yourself, would she be a phenomenon of any kind among conservatives if she were overweight, old and/or ugly? Duh, so if you’re cute and talk dirty you can have a future in politics (to some even the presidency)? So how twisted, ugly and sexist is that? And besides, she’s exploiting it to the max…making money...and pointing fingers “back” on top of that. This is just nothing more (and nothing less) than a form of political porn and “political masturbation” for repressed minds...what else? One thing is good though, she has actually helped advance the women’s cause...you can safely say now that “woman are just as capable of being as stupid and vile as men”. Thanks again Sarah for the opportunity to try to make sense out of total nonsense. And yes thanks to her, reality has now become "officially" crazier -and funnier- than fiction. If you disagree or have a reasonable less “crazy” angle please enlighten me, I’m always willing to stand corrected.

Well, I don’t know about you but Cheney is “dithering”* me out…so what’s his point, “thinking it through” is a bad thing?...as opposed to what? Being “decisive” in jumping in front of a bus (Iraq)? What? Should we tell future generations that they should be “decisive” and cross the street without looking (“left and right”) for upcoming danger first? What then? Having a decisive “W” was not bad enough? So how about “a decisive” Sarah Palin as “commander in chief”? Wow! Not that it’s going to happen but that’s a scary thought isn’t it (like the worst “B” horror or disaster flick that even Hollywood can’t dream up)? Hmmm, some food for thought…how about a Sarah Palin (the dithering queen) and Cheney ticket for 2012 (in that order)?

*Dithering: “Dithering” in graphic artist terms means the “breaking down” of solid colors into dots to represent gradations in color that a computer or printing device cannot handle. Like dissolving the color “wearing” it down (so keep that in mind also when reading).

So after how much blood and treasure is Iraq “manageable” again (if it last)? At the time of the invasion I had argued with my friends on the right that “aside” from ideologies and political views that from a “strictly practical” stand point the invasion seemed like a “stupid” decision…with my friends on the left I’d argue that maybe “we” can’t be that dumb and that there may have been some kind of “think-tank” well understood (but secret) geo-political reason behind it all (like to setup shop to “stop” the Chinese…the real enemy of our way of life). And then it turns out to be that “yes” they were even more stupid that we suspected… and that the universal notion -aside from the very neo-cons that screwed up in the first place- is that the “Iraq invasion” was stupid at best. Heck, even gas prices went up…way up, and then the economy tanked. So was that just stupid, or stupid…and reckless? To be smart and arrogant is bad, but to be stupid and arrogant is a disaster.

Now just for the sake of argument and in response as to how quick “the far right” (and the not so far right) is to make despotic and inflammatory statements even when not factual. So how about this? What does the constitution say about premeditatedly plunging the nation into war under false pretenses? Let’s ask Sarah…hey Sarah, does that sound “constitutionally” to you? Or just “treasony”?

How about the cost “in blood and treasure” (lives and treasure)? So what’s that then, just an “oops and sorry” moment? Or something far more serious…seriously. Sure we all make mistakes but there’s a difference when you have a solemn responsibility. Like as a “responsible” parent I will never tell my own children to just cross the street without looking, nor should any responsible government launch the nation into war without first “thinking it through”, and I mean “all-the-way-through”. Logic will tell you that if you elect someone stupid you’re bound to get stupid decisions… and that by the same token if you elect someone smart you’re bound to get smarter decisions. So no matter what your ideology, aren’t we all better off?

There’s no “dithering” history and history is not going to be kind about this whole mess. Like in the OJ case, whether you thought he was guilty or not the legacy is that he was guilty… no matter how much he denies it, and that he got away with it. Here also Cheney can say anything he wants (the best form of defense is to attack) but the legacy has already taken place… there were no WMD’s and the Iraq war was a stupid and reckless disaster (except for Halyburton and Cheney’s cronies in the oil industry that is).

I HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY. As per the cartoon it may seem like a premature death announcement to a healthcare reform bill but it is more that it makes a good joke (always important) and that in a more serious way predicting the possible future may make you think about it a little more while there’s still time to affect things. All together I do believe that there’s plenty of good and responsible people in Washington who actually have the country’s best interest (the people) in mind rather than narrow special interest (the corporations… the narrow ass ones I mean) and who are working hard to make a difference in a very difficult environment of contradicting special interest. Yes I’m taking the side of the reasonable “politicians” from relatively sane districts (few in the south where the angry gene has taken hold) rather than the 24-7-for profit- news-entertainment cable media (left or right) as they tend to omit most of the details that make the debate sane (reasonable and that for boring). Lots of what we hear through the cable news is many times distorted for effect (very easy to understand what but not very responsible if you ask me). Although there’s quite a difference in “degrees” of insanity and retardation between fox and MSNBC (and whatever else in between), ethically speaking (morally) I do not see that much of a difference.

What I’m getting at is that aside from all the noise something positive is going to come out of this debate that will advance and mature us as a nation in the long run. The kudos go to those “real Americans” who had the vision and mustered the energy to put it forward and fight for change and to those who fight for the details to make it better. Democracy works mostly because in some ways it allows the ones in the receiving end to vent while living in the hope that they will be the ones dishing it out next time. Sure things are more confusing, difficult and messy in a democracy but in the end of the day even though its not the best it is the best we have and something progressive and positive is going to come out of it… no one is going to be entirely happy of course but in the long run it is all going to be substantially worth it as a whole. Now what do you think?

Friday The 13th

Its not friday and its not the 13th but may as well be because with Sarah “Jason” Palin, everyday is Friday the 13th…

Oh, and the American flag in the lapel thingy… what? Just “don’t leave home without it”? If you’re in the business of fear mongering and like “Jason Voorhees” (Friday the 13th, but in politics) terrorizing people or “Palin-out” consternating your country, just don’t forget to wear an American flag in your lapel. Oh and don’t worry if that’s not big enough to cover the offense. Just “misuse” a BIG American flag as a backdrop. The bigger the flag, the bigger the offense you can get away with…seriously.

This cartoon was about the election massacres in the Republican Party with the measuring up to the tea-baggers standards of purity…but this flag thing kind of tips the scale on the bigger picture. I’m for one sick of it…it feels like the “thou shall not take the Name of thy God in vain” thing. Honestly, it’s too much and in an honest and serious way it’s offensive to the depth and dignity of the idea of our country… and actually a very dangerous road to travel. Is Sarah Palin’s idea of what defines an American is now going to be the standard? She actually goes at it in her book…saying something to the extent that “everyone in America” should wear one…now that’s a much scarier idea than Friday the 13th, isn’t it?

Besides I don’t know about you but I keep thinking of her as a Canadian…it does not make any sense (wishful thinking perhaps) and I know my geography but I fancy to think that Alaska is more Canada than it is USA. No offense to anyone, Canadian or Alaskan (just kidding of course)…maybe it’s just too cold up there to think straight.
