I had to take on a bunch of commissions so that we could settle up with the taxman and so I have to keep my head down and finish all the work I owe folks this week. It looks like I’ll probably have to do the same next week as well, since I won’t have all this stuff done by tomorrow.

But if you like, here’s a look at some of the stuff I’ve been drawing!

I can’t promise just yet that I’ll do one of these every friday but I’m gonna do my best! I’ve been meaning to do some fanart for Tod for a long time, after the stuff he drew for me at Rainfurrest. So here’s Sparrow and Ginger, two of the protagonists from his ~~comic~~ worldbuilding project, Ekwara.

Also it’s been forever since I’ve done an open thread, huh? Well, five straight weeks of updates, I think it is safe to open this post up for comments. Thread locks Monday morning!

I don’t want to alarm anyone, but we’re ten pages deep into this story now. Crazy! And I’m afraid you’re going to have to cope with the constantly shifting arrangement of the rigging, number of staysails, detritus on deck, etc. until I figure out completely and exactly what the Blanco looks like. Maybe by the end of this story I’ll know how to draw a boat?

Manga Studio Debut 4 is the software I use to draw The Dawn Chapel, with the exception of the very first story, How the Raccoon Got his Coat. Even the watercolor pages! They start out digital before I finish them on paper. If any of you make comics, I highly recommend it! It speeds the comic-making process along so much.

Ungulates in general creep me out immensely because of the square pupil thing. Captain Hateja is a deer woman and I don’t know if they actually had the horizontal pupils going on but if they did, I can’t imagine they were very effective at luring very many men.

Whoa dang, a comic, how about that. This comic is probably just gonna be terrified opossum faces for like the next two years. I am sorry, but this is how it has to be. The decision is beyond me.

Well this story sure went from zero to tentacles in a hurry. If boats can fly, then so can cephalopods! Also, I apologize for any untoward mental images conjured with the phrase ‘sky legs’.

Time to meet the crew! Hower, your enthusiasm is so irritating. Calm down.

FC’s done and my convention plate is clear until May, which means that I should be better about posting for the next few months, but with the comic being updated apparently once every other month now, you folks probably know better than to believe a single word I say about regular updates. But this page, like the previous set, was batched with the next one, which I’ll post next Thursday. I really wanna go biweekly but for the moment I think I am going to do two pages a week and post only one a week until I get a bit of a buffer established.

I plan on livestreaming on Monday from 7:30am to 4:00pm, with an hour break from 12:00-1:00pm to work on the next few pages. If I am not streaming at that time, by all means, yell at me. But I figure now that I’ve committed to it publicly I’ll feel a more pressing obligation to show up.

Also, I’m taking a bunch of conbadge commissions this week. If you are a furry you know what a conbadge is, but if you are not, it’s a 3×4″ ID tag with your name and a bit of art on it. In the furry world, usually this is a way to identify yourself as a character of your own invention, but there’s nothing saying I can’t draw basically whatever you want (or whatever I want) on a slip of paper this size and stick it in a badge sleeve. They’re $40 each and that includes the cost of shipping within the continental US. If you want yours before FWA, I’ll need to hear from you by the 15th, and I will absolutely draw it on theme for you (Moulin Rouge, or so I am told)! Drop me a line if you want one.
