Each Banquet fruit pie has a half serving of real fruit inside a flaky pastry shell that bakes fresh and hot from your oven or microwave in minutes. The pies come in three classic flavors: apple, peach, and cherry berry and at only about $1 a pie, Banquet pies make it easy to treat guests at a summer get-together, offer a special "finale" for your next family dinner, or just indulge yourself with a mid-day treat.

From August 26-28, before the Labor Day holiday, 650 select Wal-Marts nationwide are offering in-store demonstrations with free samples of the pies topped with Reddi-wip! We'd love for you to participate in a blog tour to try Banquet's new fruit pies and help spread the word about the in-store demonstrations. To find out if your local Wal-Mart is having a demo, please check with the store manager.

Disclosure: Banquet is a client of Mom Central.

Proper hydration and fueling have a major impact on an athlete’s safety and performance, especially with heat waves raising the mercury in thermometers across the country. After watching my kids wilt on the soccer field this summer, it doesn’t surprise me that heat injuries account for the second highest but most preventable sports injury for kids.

This information is especially important for Moms because children have an increased risk of dehydration and exertional heat illness due to their size and other factors.

As Moms, we often remind our kids to remember their water bottles, but water does not replace the electrolytes and sodium lost in sweat, so it isn’t enough to protect kids against the summer heat and humidity. The right sports nutrition and hydration, including Gatorade, can play a vital role in helping young athletes get the hydration and fuel they need to stay safe and perform their best. For every unique download of the Heat Safety Kit, Gatorade will donate $1, up to $20,000, to Beat the Heat charities.

Disclosure: Gatorade is a client of Mom Central.

It’s an all-inclusive, guided 7-day program in Keystone, Colorado run by Vail Resorts that ranked in the Forbes Top 10 Family Vacations last year. My family embarked on the Epic Summer program last summer, and we’ve all been talking about it since! My two teens, ages 16 and 17, who have extremely high vacation standards, keep raving about it – even a year later.

An Epic Summer guide leads the small group of families (we had two other families in our group) on a new adventure each day of the program. Our guide, Marty, was vivacious, friendly, fun, and extremely knowledgeable about the area. She made the trip run so smoothly, took care of all of our needs, and was flexible. This vacation packs in tons of activities and yet leaves stress behind; the guide takes care of the plans for the day, including where you’ll go, and what you’ll eat, see, and do. All you have to do is be ready for adventure!

On our trip, we stayed in a beautiful room at the base of the Keystone Resort. We enjoyed Western horse-back riding on trails that wind through the mountains, plenty of hikes through tundra and even to the top of Vail, white-water rafting down the Colorado River, mountain biking, a cowboy dinner under the stars, gondola riding, Frisbee golf, a gold mine tour, panning for gold in a creek bed, shopping, and exploring. We also ate picnic lunches on the mountainside and delicious dinners.

Five years after Chandra’s remains were found, Higham and Horwitz reexamine the case and question whether the homicide investigation had been mishandled years ago, leading to an unsolved murder mystery.

In their riveting book, the two Washington Post reporters uncover how the police, FBI, and the media focused all of their attention on the wrong suspect based on rumors and scandal alone and ignored all other vital clues and leads. Horwitz and Higham uncover critical mistakes throughout the original investigation, which finally lead police to a new suspect, in hopes that justice is finally served for Chandra Levy six years later.

A magnificently compelling, wonderfully written real-life who-dun-it?

Disclosure: Mom Central received a copy of Finding Chandra in order to facilitate this review.

Though some college-bound kids don’t like to admit it, homesickness ranks as one of the top issues teens face while adjusting to college life. One tip to steer clear of homesickness: help decorate your college kid’s dorm room to feel more like home.

Decorating projects open up an opportunity for your teen to express her personality and independence within the walls of her new dorm. Pictures, jewelry, posters, and sports memorabilia will find their way onto walls of previously bare and boring dorm rooms. Damaging the school’s walls or property, however, tends to pop up as a difficult problem to avoid when decorating a dorm. Losing the room deposit due to such circumstances can cause a noticeable dent in your wallet.

Luckily, 3M’s line of Command products supplies students everywhere with hooks made to hold, hang, and clip using non-surface-damaging, sturdy strips. Instead of nails to hang frames, Command offers new saw tooth and sticky nail hangers to mimic hammered-in nails without drilling any holes in the wall. Their plastic and metal hooks come in multiple strengths that can hold through both semesters. All products come with double-sided sticky foam strips that go on and come off easily, so at the end of the year, while others struggle removing tape and putty, your child can effortlessly pull off the strip for immediate, clean removal.

Command products make embellishing a new room so simple, fun, and quick; now I can spend less time worrying about my daughter’s dorm walls and (sadly) more time coping with the farewell before she enters the new world of college life.

Disclosure: Mom Central received 3M Products in order to facilitate this candid review.

There are also many considerations: do we need one for our second car? For grandma’s house? How easy is it to install? Do we need to take it on the plane? How much should we plan to spend?

I don’t know about you, but our infant car seat was a nightmare to install and adjust. I could never get those hooks on or off without jamming a thumb and it seemed to take at least 10-15 minutes each time we installed it. We were always pulling and tugging on it to make sure we got it right. So now that the little one outgrew his infant car seat, we recently went to the store for a toddler car seat.

Because we live in New York City and don’t own a car, we were on the hunt for a car seat that easily installs into multiple cars, earned a great safety rating, is durable for travel, and isn’t a budget buster.

We found all that and more in the new Evenflo Momentum 65 Convertible Car Seat. Get this - you can install it in less than 60 seconds – I timed myself! The seat has these seatbelt-like claws that click into the embedded hooks that are standard in most cars these days. It’s brilliant! The hooks click in on each side and then you push in the car seat towards the back. Click, click, push. The satisfying clicking noises assure you that the seat is secure.

Equally impressive as the innovation are the safety standards. Evenflo has already earned the top safety ratings according to Consumer Reports, but with the Momentum 65, they have upped the anti beyond current government standards by increasing the side impact cushioning with something they call Superior e3 Side Impact technology. It’s this triple layer foam that absorbs more crash energy away from the child. The cushion is not too thick, though, so it doesn’t feels like you’re carrying around a lazy-boy recliner in your back seat.

Other features worth mentioning:
• Infinite Slide Harness™ that simply slides for an accurate fit every time and doesn’t require reworking the harness as your child grows
• 65-pound harness weight rating means kids can stay in it longer
• ReclineRight™ multiple-position upfront recline is easy to use and makes the child’s ride more comfortable
• Removable, flip-down cup holder
• Easy-off, machine-washable pad so that parents won’t need to take out the harness straps to get all the crumbly bits of food out.

You can learn more about the Evenflo Momentum 65 DLX Convertible Car Seat at www.evenflo.com/e3SideImpact.

If you’re looking for a laugh that only parents can relate to, check out the new Evenflo “Savvy Parents” video series, which offers a tongue-in-cheek “how to” on becoming a savvier parent, with themes such as “How To Repair Your Husband’s Bruised Ego,” “How To Avoid Becoming Extreme Safety Parent,” and “How To Recover From a Potty Mouth Moment.” I actually laughed out loud at the one about the husband’s bruised ego.

The Evenflo Momentum 65 DLX is now available nationwide at Babies R’ Us and www.babiesrus.com, and retails for $199.99.

Michelle is Managing Director of Mom Central in New York. She lives with her husband and 17-month-old son in Brooklyn and they are looking for reasons to rent cars just so they can install their new car seat.
The special effects are truly impressive, as is the imagination of the writers who dreamed up all the cutting-edge devices that could be developed by bringing together the brightest people in the world. Kids will love the high-tech gadgets and futuristic missions that are part of The Jensen Project. The teenagers in the movie are very cool and have amazing abilities to come up with solutions using their intellect and technology.

This movie isn’t sugar coated with a lot of impossibly perfect scenarios. It addresses loss, life’s disappointments, and the importance of family communication. The movie is also really fun and exciting without a lot of violence. To be sure, there are bad guys, but their threats are in the form of problems to be solved.

“Family” and “Friendly” entertainment usually means goofy and boring for the adults. Or it’s hard to find something age-appropriate for the 8-10 year-olds, but still interesting for the tweens and teens. The Jensen Project provides a nice balance for the whole family. If you’re looking for some family-time ideas for this Friday night, check out the Jensen Project for a great thrill ride that may even keep Mom and Dad awake.

Michelle is the NY Managing Director for Mom Central. She received the opportunity to view the movie at a special screening in NY to facilitate this review.

They call their new line “Jamba At-Home Smoothies” and gave it a catchy motto: “All’s Well That Blends Well.”

The all-natural smoothies come in three flavors: Strawberries Wild, a blend of strawberries and banana, Razzmatazz, a swirl of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, and Mango-a-go-go, a mango and pineapple mix. All three flavors contain non-fat yogurt, real fruit, and an antioxidant boost. The smoothies also have no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives,
and no high fructose corn syrup, either. Each eight-ounce serving
contains no trans fats or other fats and are 120 calories or less.

Each package contains two smoothies (eight ounces each) and must be refrigerated. Every smoothie provides 100% of the daily recommended value of Vitamin C and a full serving of fruit. Each smoothie mix must be blended with eight ounces of apple juice for 60 seconds, so your kitchen must be stocked with apple juice (and a blender). So much for heading to the mall for a cool, delicious summer treat. Jamba At-Home Smoothies can be found in grocer’s frozen food aisles.
Mom Central received Jamba At-Home Smoothie packs in order to review this product.
