The Woman in The Yard in theaters March 28, 2025

noreply@blogger.com ( George L. Cook III) — Wed, 12 Mar 2025 17:14:00 +0000

A lone, spectral woman shrouded entirely in black appears on a family’s front lawn without explanation and warns them “today’s the day.”

Where did she come from? What does she want? When will she leave? Only The Woman in the Yard knows.

From Blumhouse, the most successful global brand in horror, comes a new original chiller starring BAFTA and SAG nominee Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Harder They Fall, The Piano Lesson) as Ramona, a woman crippled by grief after she survives a car accident that takes her husband (Russell Hornsby; BMF, Fences).

Seriously injured, Ramona now must care for their 14-year-old son (Peyton Jackson; Respect, American Refugee) and 6-year-old-daughter (Estella Kahiha; Will Trent, BMF), alone in her rural farmhouse.

Then one day the woman takes form in their yard.

Ramona assumes the woman (Okwui Okpokwasili; The Exorcist: Believer, Julie Taymor’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream) is lost or demented, but as the woman creeps nearer and nearer to the house, it becomes clear she is no ordinary figure and her intentions are anything but peaceful. Now Ramona must rally to protect herself and her children from the grasp of the woman who simply won’t leave them alone.

The Woman in the Yard is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Black Adam, Jungle Cruise), who recently directed Deadwyler in the upcoming action thriller Carry On. The film is written by first-time feature screenwriter Sam Stefanak.

The film is produced by Jason Blum, producer of The Invisible Man and The Black Phone, along with acclaimed Emmy nominated producer Stephanie Allain p.g.a. (The Exorcist: Believer, Hustle & Flow), and is executive produced by star Danielle Deadwyler, Jaume Collet-Serra, James Moran and Gabrielle Ebron.

Following the theatrical release of Alien: Romulus, the latest installment in the groundbreaking Alien film franchise, Marvel Comics proudly presents an ALIEN: ROMULUS comic one-shot next month that tackles one of the film’s lingering mysteries.

On sale October 16, ALIEN: ROMULUS #1 is written by horror master Zac Thompson (ABSOLUTE CARNAGE: AVENGERS, I Breathed a Body) and drawn by rising star Daniel Picciotto (DANNY KETCH: GHOST RIDER, X-FORCE). The film took Alien storytelling back to its roots with a thrilling saga of young space colonizers coming face-to-face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

Marvel’s one-shot will take place prior to the events of the film, providing an illuminating backstory behind the film’s main threat. Marvel Comics presents an all-new story revealing secrets of the film’s legendary antagonists. This issue shines light on the tragedy that occurred on the space station Renaissance before Rain, Andy, and their crew had their own terrifying encounter there!

"The Alien franchise is responsible for my lifelong love of body horror, so needless to say, I’m ecstatic to be contributing a small piece to the canon," Thompson shared. Ti West has already shot a prequel for "X"

noreply@blogger.com ( George L. Cook III) — Sun, 20 Mar 2022 21:07:00 +0000

A prequel to Ti West's "X" film has already been filmed, shot in secret back to back with "X" in New Zealand during the pandemic. The prequel is titled "Pearl"and will give us the backstory for Pearl.

The surprise reveal now sets up West’s “X” and “Pearl” to launch the first horror franchise from A24, the home of art-house genre hits “The Witch,” “Hereditary” and “Midsommar.”

The ambitious feat was partly inspired by the unique demands of making "X" during COVID-19. Production on the R-rated horror picture was set to take place in early 2021 in New Zealand, where cases were low. Facing a mandatory two-week quarantine on arrival, West thought, why not use the time to pen a sequel?

"My plan was to write it there and see if I can convince A24 that we should make two movies," said West.

West wrote "Pearl" in quarantine, sent it off, and went back to prepping "X." By the time filming began in February, they had a greenlight. The prequel, which is not yet dated, marks Goth's first co-writer credit. Produced by A24, Jacob Jaffke, Harrison Kreiss and Kevin Turen, it is executive produced by Goth, Dennis Cummings, Sam Levinson, Ashley Levinson, Karina Manashil, Mescudi and Peter Phok.
