A thistle must be better than man,
For if you cut a milkweed in two
How white and pure billows forth
Its innocent blood and residue

But take a man and scratch him good
And how red an issue doth proceed
Full of germs and organisms
Accompanied by oaths without a need

And the thistle where it bleeds
Can be easily cleaned away by the rains
Unlike man’s blood and many pollutions
Whose stains surely forever will remain.

A Thistle

Four walls and a ceiling are prison
When a lad is hale in spring
And would rather relish vitality
Bursting forth in each living thing

Each sundown’s a grim reminder
That soon enough death comes to all
So he’d better go enjoy nature
Before it withers away in fall

Each spring comes in more beautiful
Because there’s one less spring he’ll live through
While flora and fauna are strumpets
He’d better live limitless, too.

the mimosas rejoice that i am gone
for wherever i am there’s pain
they blossom with exuberance
because i’ll never come here again

good-bye to the land of my birth
to true greenery and peat bogs
to a million species of fauna
And thick forests over-logged

all i cherish of my homeland
are memories i cannot achieve
the future’s yanking me onward
to a new wonderland, i believe

i believe years pass before again
i shall glimpse such a verdant view
but i can only prosper in exile
since i could ne’er do that with you

once i thought hope was my enemy
for it seemed like a man was crushed
each time he reared his feeble head
and shook off sackcloth, ashes, and dust

but now i see that it’s not hope
but my own self who was to blame
i chose not to be glib and cheery
instead of hoping just the same

then, i lived in the crushing moment
and did not have the sense to see
hope’s blameless, while shortsightedness
is our only great enemy.

Absorbing nearly all their matters
Into a self-centered singularity

How pleasant to break all the bands
To others who stretch us with their gravity
Until we’re thin and distorted
Much like a spiral galaxy

And be a black hole at times, for your health
While relishing such more productive times.

Why curse the paths untaken

In the endless alternate realities

Just be content with your lot

You became whom you used to hate.

On Being Wise

you can never go back home
not because home’s no longer there
it’s not the city that’s the reason
that there’s a dearth of care

simply put you have changed
and that makes the past fantasy
you’ll never be able to reclaim
though it makes nostalgia antsy

in person you may return any time
but when once the spirit’s sojourned
in other places home’s fore’er lost
destroyed by everything else you’ve learned

and that is the real travesty
since you’ll yearn to go back home
you’re whole life before you realize
that it’s your fault that home’s gone.
