Odin can be observed in action - a large pool with glass walls was constructed at the zoo a couple of years ago to allow visitors to watch him gliding through the water with all the grace of a polar bear.

Tragically, within our lifetimes, zoos might be the only places left to see these magnificent animals.

A century ago there were about 100,000 tigers in the wild. Now there are approximately 2,500 adults, with the Bengal variety almost extinct.

House Dems to tax rich to pay for health care

WASHINGTON � House Democrats plan to pay for a sweeping health care overhaul by boosting taxes on the wealthy.

The taxes will hit households with incomes of $350,000 a year and above.

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel of New York said the tax would raise $540 billion over 10 years.

In combination with cuts to Medicare and Medicaid that would pay for a comprehensive health bill in the range of $1 trillion....

...In the House, Democratic leaders had hoped to release an ambitious bill Friday that would achieve Obama's goals of holding down health care costs and extending insurance to the 50 million people who lack it. Insurers would have to cover all comers, employers would be required to offer insurance and individuals would be required to purchase it, with subsidies for the poor. The tax-writing Ways and Means Committee met throughout the day Thursday to try to finalize plans on how to pay for the plan, with an income surcharge on high-earners of some 3 percent or more emerging as the leading option.

I'm getting really fucking tired of people thinking health care is a right. It's not. Nothing that requires the services of others is a right.

Things worth having are often expensive. People will pay $200 bucks a month to insure their car, but they won't pay the same to fully insure their bodies? Fuck 'em - let them rot.

I can get behind medical coverage for those who can't provide it for themselves, but the fact of the matter is, most people simply don't care to.

Representatives, instead of stealing money from successful people to pay for those who aren't, why don't you put your heads together about reasonable regulations that will get to the ROOT of the problem and bring down health care costs?

O.K. My sixteen year old son states that I am ruining his life �ause I'm making him study during the summer....well, he pissed around all school year and he needs to catch up.
He said he'd rather just be dead.
Here's the problem. I was gonna help him out and kill him but every method that I've tried has FAILED.
1. I tried to smother him with a pillow but he wouldn't cooperate. Plus, all that laughing coming from him just RUINED my concentration....rude little fucker!
2. I tried to strangle him but
a. I can't fit both hands ALL the way around his throat
b. He just WON'T hold still
c. All that fucking laughing again.
3. I tried beating him to death but
a. He keeps laughing
b. He wants to know if "That's ALL you got"
c. Ya can break a fucking fingernail that way and it's just not worth it
4. I thought about running him down with my car but:
a. I wouldn't have anyone left alive to clean my car
b. I can't get him to stand in front of my car long enough to get the old POS started
5. I was going to poison him but:
a. It's really kind of messy
b. I won't have anyone left to help clean the apartment
6. I thought about shooting him but:
a. I won't have anyone left to clean the gun for me
7. I was goin to to try hanging him but:
a. He wouldn't hold the fuck still
b. He's too fucking heavy for me to pick up
c. All that fucking laughing again
8. Hmmmm....a knife?
a. He won't hold still long enough to get stabbed or gutted
b. I won't have anyone to clean up the mess
c. Thought I might not have quick enough reflexes and just end up with a knife stuck up my ass

So....ummmm.....any advice???

I kind of feel like I should've tried when he was younger and slower (like everyone else) and maybe I just waited too long

35,000 fugitives arrested in sweep

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- More than 35,000 fugitives across the United States were arrested in June as part of an annual sweep that teams the U.S. Marshals Service with local law enforcement in a summer push to clean up the streets, U.S. Marshals said Thursday.

Among the 35,190 fugitives apprehended during Operation FALCON (Federal and Local Cops Operating Nationally) were 2,356 fugitive sex offenders, the service said.

"This might be considered the cream of the crop for the most violent felons that are out there. For example, we arrested 433 murder suspects," said U.S. Marshals director John F. Clark at a Chicago, Illinois, news conference.

In the course of the operation, the marshals also confiscated 82 firearms and 2,400 kilograms of narcotics. "Often when we find fugitives in hiding, we have other fruits of their crimes: firearms, drugs, some other evidence of some type of criminal activity," Clark said.

Unregistered sex offenders were a major target, Clark said.

Hoagie was rescued by an Abused Animal Shelter and adopted by William Morse and his wife. Now he has repaid all.

Odd thing about Mountian Lions. They are notoriously antisocial towards people, so much so that it is very rare to even see one when camping. Makes me wonder if this one was sick.

Five young adults were killed Thursday afternoon when their car was struck by an Amtrak passenger train in Canton Township.
CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - Five teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 were killed in a car-train accident in Canton Township.

According to Amtrak, Train 353 was traveling westbound when it hit the car. The train is the regularly scheduled outbound train from Pontiac to Chicago. The train was west of the Dearborn Station at the time of the accident. About 170 passengers were on the train.

Sources tell Action News that the car attempted to beat the train by going around the gates at Hannon Road. The force of the impact pushed the car nearly 150 yards toward Lotz Road.

Four young men and a girl were killed in the crash. Family members confirmed the identity of the girl, 14-year-old Jessica Sadler. Jessica was a 10th grader at Taylor High School. Also killed was Jessica�s boyfriend, 18-year-old Eddie Gross of Taylor; a 20-year old from Taylor; and 19-year-old Sean Harris from the Detroit area, along with his 21-year old brother Terrence Harris of Stafford, Va.

Amtrak says there were no injuries on the train and the passengers remained onboard as the train returned to the Amtrak station in Dearborn. Four buses arrived there, waiting to take passengers wherever they needed to go. Most were headed to Chicago.

Because the train had engines attached to each end, the one that hit the car was disconnected and left at the scene while passengers were transported back to the Dearborn station.

Canton Police, Michigan State Police and representatives of Amtrak and Norfolk-Southern are on the scene. MIOSHA and the National Transportation Safety Board are also expected to join the investigation.

The accident closed both Hannan and Lotz roads between Michigan Avenue and Van Born Road. This is in the area of Michigan Ave. and I-275.

Tonight my teenager came home in near tears. She told me she heard a mother hitting, cursing, and yelling at a child down the street. I had her take me down, it was about 10 houses from ours, and the girl could still be heard crying. Through the open window she was yelling at her mother to stop hitting her and calling her a bastard child. ... That was all I needed and I hope that it did something to help that girl (who by the voice I am guessing was about 10-12 yrs old).... so I called the Sheriff department. Then took the dog for a walk as they were there. I may never know what was going on, or what happened, the cops left after some conversation in the house with the parents (and a comment from the mother about being accused of not feeding the child). I just hope that something happened to stop the horrid stories we are always hearing about.

NBC Philadelphia - Dymire Baylor says he overheard a woman ask, "What are all these black kids doing?" when he and his friends showed up.

"I heard this lady, she was like, 'Uh, what are all these black kids doing here?' She's like, 'I'm scared they might do something to my child,'" said camper Dymire Baylor.

The Creative Steps Day Camp paid more than $1900 to The Valley Swim Club. The Valley Swim Club is a private club that advertises open membership. But the campers' first visit to the pool suggested otherwise.

"When the minority children got in the pool all of the Caucasian children immediately exited the pool," Horace Gibson, parent of a day camp child, wrote in an email. "The pool attendants came and told the black children that they did not allow minorities in the club and needed the children to leave immediately."

The next day the club told the camp director that the camp's membership was being suspended and their money would be refunded.

The explanation they got was either dishearteningly honest or poorly worded.

"There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion � and the atmosphere of the club," John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club said in a statement.
