Second high school game was in the books Friday night. This one was between Peachtree Ridge and Roswell High School. The two faced off in the state championships a few years ago and due to some crappy rules, tied. Then a year or two later apparently Roswell was awarded a phantom touchdown that let them advance to the next round of the playoffs. To say there is some bad blood between the schools is probably an understatement. Peachtree Ridge held out this time after a really close game and secured their first win over Roswell.

Football: South Carolina State vs. Georgia Tech

The first game I shot on Saturday was Georgia Tech’s opener against South Carolina State. No shock that Tech steamrolled State to the tune of 31 points, but it definitely didn’t feel like they won by that much. The first half was particularly close and even though State only had 3 points, it felt like they were driving the ball really well.

Unfortunately, I have to miss the next home game which is against N.C. State since I’ll be out of town, but I’ll be shooting the rest of the home games this year for The Macon Telegraph and US Presswire.

Football: LSU vs. North Carolina

Last night after wrapping up at Georgia Tech (photos to come tomorrow), I went over to the Georgia Dome to shoot the 2010 Chick-Fil-A Bowl Kickoff Game. This year Louisiana State university (LSU) and the University of North Carolina: Chapel Hill (UNC) faced off, taking over for SEC team Alabama (2008 & 2009) and Virginia Tech [Check out my 2009 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff photos here].

North Carolina turned the ball over a lot, and so did LSU. Neither team really deserved to win, but credit goes to UNC who fought back from a 20 point halftime deficit to come within a touchdown of winning. Two dropped passes with 10 seconds left on the clock sealed the game, but no one expected it to get that down to the wire.

I felt like I did pretty well this year, I filed somewhere near 70 photos from the game which is pretty good for me. After this and the Georgia Tech game, I finally feel like I’m back in the swing of shooting football again.

Football: Georgia Tech’s 2009 season review

Last season I was given the opportunity to shoot Georgia Tech by Woody Marshall at The Macon Telegraph. Living about 10 minutes from the stadium, I jumped at the opportunity even though I was a Georgia alum. When I shoot football, it doesn’t matter who I’m shooting, I’m there to get the best photos I can. Luckily for me, Tech had their best season in years and won the ACC Championship. Although I didn’t get to shoot the post season games, it made the regular season all that much more interesting.

There is something about shooting a winning team that is just more exhilarating than shooting a mediocre or losing team. As long time followers know, I shot UGA during 2007 when I worked for the Red & Black when they finished #2 in the polls. I’ve been lucky to have the opportunities I’ve had, especially in Georgia where there are two tradition-rich teams.

Football: Roswell vs. Collins Hill (High School)

High school football season has officially started. This year my first game was Roswell vs. Collins Hill, coincidentally I shot the schools’ last game against each other last year during the playoffs (see here). It was also my first football game using my new Canon 1D mIV. By the end of the game I was shooting at 12,800 ISO but you wouldn’t be able to tell looking at the photos. I know the D3 has been able to do this for awhile, but I was really impressed with the high ISO abilities of the camera compared to my old 1D mIII.

One of the things I always enjoyed about my time at UGA was the wide variety of things that would happen on the north campus. As Melissa and I were walking around Friday we came across this guy who was practicing tricks on his bike outside the Chapel. He let us take some photos of him while he practiced.

Entertainment: India Arie’s private show at 7 Stages

Last weekend India Arie held a secret show at 7 Stages in Little Five Points. The only way people got an invite was responded to a message on her twitter account, and if you got selected you got two tickets. The AJC sent me out to get photos from outside the venue, I don’t think it was what they had in mind because there weren’t a ton of people waiting. Just hose who knew about it really. 100 people does not chaos make.
