2021 World Series Odds from Las Vegas
With Opening Day on the horizon, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook has released their updated 2021 World Series odds. After acquiring Trevor Bauer, the Los Angeles Dodgers are down to +200 after opening at +500 last October. Other notables include: The New York Yankees at +600; the San Diego Padres at +800; and the Chicago White Sox at +900.
Major League Baseball famously changed its playoff format (literally) hours before the first pitch of the 2020 season. This year’s playoff format isn’t set-in-stone either, which is something bettors need to be wary of. Most within the league expect to go back to the 10-team playoff format with three division winners plus two Wild Cards on each side, but that has not been finalized. There’s a chance we could see the 16-team format that we saw last year, which would obviously affect the futures market.
What other rule changes do bettors need to be aware of? There will not be a universal designated hitter like last year. The DH will only be used in the American League and pitchers will hit in the National League. Doubleheaders will once again be seven innings. Extra innings will begin with a runner on second base for each team. Active rosters will return to the normal size of 26 players, but teams will be permitted a five-man taxi squad for home games.
