Sup, OMV? You know, I don’t usually give out my expertise for free, but see, I got this tenacious idea stuck into my mind for the last few days. You need to rebrand. No, seriously. What does OMV stand for anyway? I don’t get it and it means nothing to me. A slight change in your name, though will bring a whole lot of sense. Just 2 more lines, that’s it! Or actually, just another triangle. Here, I threw a 5 minute mockup.

I imagine you are not exactly into modern slang… I mean, you people must be all suits and briefcases, riding Rolls Royces, making billions and shit and living into a more formal world. So let me explain. OMW stands for “on my way”. And that’s exactly what you want, right – people drop by, fill their tanks and get the fuck out. However it also adds a positive aspect to that and is perfectly acceptable to audiences. And makes you look like you care about other people being able to do their stuff. Whether you do care or not is not the point here. The point is your identity will suddenly get lots of loving.

It’s amazing what 2 lines can do. Well, not these two lines, although they also tend to do a lot. But this is probably the easiest, yet most profitable rebranding a company could ever do. And although it might sound like a joke, I’m actually quite serious about it.

And 5 figures will suffice me, thanks. Or some rarely used 997 you’ve got lying around.

Newly opened Marina Bay Sands casino complex in Singapore looks damn good. And it should, with the staggering overall cost of $8 billion. Its promotional photos however reveal something quite funny, that makes me wonder how big exactly their marketing budget was.

First of all, where did you get that beaten up girl anyway? Check these leg bruises out. And honestly, couldn’t you find someone more… well… attractive? I don’t mean to disrespect, but she looks like a general stripper to say the least.

Second of all – you should be damn blind to not see the insulation tape below glass panels and peel it off before you take the shot.

Third… Photographer’s legs and stance are truly epic! Never heard of tripods, mate? What about polarizing filters?

But most of all… leaving all this shit untouched on your public photos is just priceless.

You read The Oatmeal, don’t you? And you have stumbled upon the printers thingie, right? It’s true, I can give you this! At least with Canon’s MP980 chest-shaped-11-kilo-piece-of-junk.

Put brand new inks, print fifteen 10×15 cm (quarter of a standard A4 sheet) photos and off you go for a new set.

Advertised as something in the lines of “professional quality home photo lab” at the time I bought it, it is generally a photo quality inkjet, that also has scanner, big screen, card reader, wireless networking and maybe some other shenanigans I don’t even remember now, but found useful for our home office. And its ink tanks last few copies, while a single 9 ml cartridge costs 10 to 12 Euro.

Being a pretty ordinary printer itself, MP980 doesn’t exactly shine with anything in particular. Scanning and printing quality is acceptable, wireless is a nice touch, that lets you put the brick somewhere, where you won’t bump into it too often, screen is subpar, navigation is simply ridiculous, as is on-screen software. Chinese Engrish is present at its best and greets you with the wtf message “Please wait momentarily” upon power up. The other contestant in this category is my UPS, that greets me with “Please waiting a moment”.

Haven’t really tried much of the printing and copying possibilities, because… to print a single page in black and even in draft mode you really need to have all your cartridges topped up. Seriously. Even if you check the “grayscale printing” box and your black tank is full, it will still go “I need fucking magenta! Oh, and yellow is low too! Get me new cartridges nao or GTFO!” And in case you haven’t used the printer for a while, this magnificient monologue will pop after the mind-blowing 5-minute cleaning cycle is completed. I shit you not. And because I saw the speed at which ink tanks were being depleted, and I knew this was coming, I had a full set of new cartridges at hand. So I replaced yellow and magenta and… cleaning process started again. 5 more minutes. After that I was proudly handed the page, that took 5 seconds to print. Was fucking speechless and ended up 15 minutes late for a meeting.

But wait! There is more! Just found out you can’t even use the fucking scanner if a single ink tank runs out! lol! And the funniest part is it will run out even if you don’t actually print anything. A goddamn magic! Used the scanner for a month and just had to replace the black tank so I can scan a page. And few seconds later I was told cyan, gray and the big black tank are also low. So I started asking myself if these sounds I hear are the printer doing nom nom nom or is there a bunch of lemmings locked on the inside painting pictures every time I scan something.

Welcome to the newest category – EVE. In here you will find funky stuff about my experiences in EVE Online. Pretty much the best MMORPG ever. If you like trolls, elves and other imbecille crap – GTFO now.

The game

EVE is basically one of the most beautiful space games you will find, if not the most beautiful, given there are not many even decent looking out there anyway. And as this genre seems to be dying, EVE looks like the one game, that will last. And there is reason for that. Plus 7 years of constant development and improvement.

What’s it all about? Internet spaceships! Internet spaceships piloted by retarded (sometimes literally) sci-fi fans from around the world.

The game offers plenty of opportunities and you can develop your character(s) any way you want. But what’s most important to me is it simulates real life mechanics pretty damn good. I learned alot about myself just playing it, I kid you not. I mean, the way you play a game is pretty much the way you also behave in life. The way you make decisions, the way you act and react. It’s you and doesn’t matter if you admit it or not. Of course, you may behave quite differently in real life, but deep inside you know it’s your real identity you show in EVE. No, really, EVE does help you find your true self and learn from that. It does also help you try different business ventures without having to put real money at stake. So this single aspect alone makes my subscription worthwile.

What makes the game so addictive is playing with real people, who behave in a very different manner, so you can hardly predict the outcome of a given situation. Every dogfight, every venture, every move can end up in a way you least expected. There are no scripts, no triggers, no behaviour models. It’s all happening on the instant and outcome of everything in the game usually depends entirely on information, players’ abilities, a little bit of fear (or hesitation, if you prefer) and a little bit of plain stupidity.

EVE has it all – politics, wars, conflicts, blackmailing, pirating, betrayal, hacking and everything else you will find in your day to day activities in real life. And internet spaceships are serious business. Players own millions of dollars worth of game assets. And that is a pretty good reason for lots of people to take game seriously. Perhaps too seriously sometimes. People come, people leave, people get emotional, people die for real.

Dear last.fm, guess what happened! I cancelled my subscription and decided to give my $3 to Grooveshark instead. It looks to me now there is way too much underground music on your playlists and way too less diversity. Why would I want to listen to the same track few times during the day and do it again and again and again? That’s right, I would not.

btw, Grooveshark, how should I take it Bulgaria not being on your country list?!

Update: Grooveshark has its problems, though. And some of them are quite fundamental. Radio is utter shit. Especially categories as they are. Which leads to the second problem – tagging sucks big time. I found a playlist called “chillout”, that was full of Björk. Who in the hell would consider Björk even close to chillout?! It’s music for suiciders, ffs! And that leads us to another problem. You rely entirely on other people’s definitions about music “genres”. And that’s really frustrating as it’s not as unobtrusive, as in last.fm. I’m used to put an artist name or a tag and have hours of similar music (more or less). Not the case with Grooveshark. You need to wonder on your own through user playlists and find one that best suits your mood. But you might end up wasting significant amount of time on that and in the end it’s pretty possible, that you don’t feel like listening anymore. Similar artist interface is absolutely annoying. Still trying to figure out what this “+” button does and where does it “add” the artist. The only effect is interface gets stuck. Not to mention the “wtf” look on my face when it took 5 minutes for download dialog to finally pop.
