Not only are thirst and frequent urination symptoms of Type 2 diabetes, but so is increased hunger. As you can likely imagine, the latter is a more difficult symptom to understand. That said, frequent bathroom trips and dehydration are not the only apparent signs of diabetes: blurred vision, tingling in the extremities, and fatigue are other indicators of chronically elevated blood sugar. Most people are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes years after its original inception: this can be as long as fifteen years.

We would like to focus on hunger. If you are a Type 2 diabetic, you know your symptoms. Dealing with increased hunger is one of those that can be handled and consequently help you treat your unstable blood sugar and insulin levels.

First, let's talk about why people with Type 2 diabetes are more likely to become hungry more often than the average person. Type 2 diabetes is a blood sugar condition. But did you know these levels help to influence your hunger - and your hunger also affects your blood sugar?

Diabetes is characterized by insulin dysfunction. Insulin present in the body is no longer as useful as it once was. Therefore, sugar in the bloodstream remains elevated above a healthy range long after consuming a meal. As a result, insulin is frequently in the bloodstream much more so than in someone with healthy blood sugar levels.

Insulin stimulates the appetite. The higher your blood sugar and the greater your insulin resistance, the more hungry you are likely to be. Type 2 diabetics deal with a nagging appetite much more than people without out of control blood sugar which makes it even harder to lose weight and maintain a healthy diet.

Dealing with increased hunger requires self-control. More discipline is what you may need if you are struggling with an appetite that seems committed to making weight loss more difficult. But, there are a few things you could do to help you control your appetite...

drink plenty of water - 8 glasses per day,

drink coffee - acts as an appetite suppressant,

increase your protein and healthy fat intake, and

eat fewer simple carbohydrates.

The last point is especially essential. High blood sugar rarely occurs without an abundance of carbs in your diet. Eating fewer simple carbs and more complex carbs can help you regain control of your appetite and decrease the frequency of frustrating hunger pangs and the roller coaster readings of blood sugar and insulin levels.

Also, try snacking on healthy fats. A handful of nuts instead of granola or cereal is an example. As long as you do not eat too many, nuts are an excellent way to suppress your appetite. Brazil nuts, for instance, are incredibly useful. The next time you are hungry in be
tween meals, eat 4 or 5 Brazil nuts. Wait 5 minutes. You will be surprised at how effective they are at keeping your hunger at bay.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

It is widely known having Type 2 diabetes raises the risk of having or developing brain atrophy and dementia. Scientists at Fuzhou General Hospital and several other research institutions in Fujian and Jiangsu, China, took a closer look at the brain to determine which structures were smaller or shaped differently in people with the condition.

Using MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), investigators viewed the brain of 23 people with Type 2 diabetes and 24 healthy participants. All participants were given tests showing how well their brain was functioning.

Brain shrinkage was seen in two parts of the brain called the thalamus and bilateral caudate head. Such reduction was linked to poor performance on tests of brain use and with poorly-controlled HbA1c. MRI also showed changes of shape along with the loss of brain tissue. The researchers concluded the analysis of brain changes in Type 2 diabetes could greatly help us to understand how such changes could affect thinking.

The thalamus receives sensory information on touch, pain, or temperature from nerves located throughout the body. From there it relays the information to various parts of the cerebral cortex, the part of the brain used for thinking. Different parts of the cerebral cortex handle information coming from specific regions of the body. More research is needed to clarify how atrophy and change of shape could change how this process works and how it might make a difference in the lives of people with Type 2 diabetes.

The bilateral caudate head, a part of the caudate nucleus, is located near the thalamus and performs a vital role in learning. It helps the individual to use past experiences to make new decisions. It is thought to be important in communication.

Damage to the caudate nucleus can cause unusual behavioral changes, including...

a decreased ability to move,

mental stagnation and the lack of initiative,

restlessness,

a lack of ability to control impulses,

confusion, and

psychosis-like signs.

How might atrophy and the change of brain shape affect so many functions? More investigation will explain how these changes might be linked to Alzheimer's disease.

It is no secret people with Type 2 diabetes have a significantly increased risk of Alzheimer's disease, by up to 65 percent. As a person becomes resistant to insulin, it has been found insulin in the brain falls below healthy levels and then normal signaling and transmission of brain chemicals start to suffer. This is when proteins known as beta-amyloid accumulate in the brain. These are the destructive compounds associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

It can indicate the possible presence of Type 2 diabetes. Scientists at the University of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, and several other research institutions in Brazil compared 116 Type 2 diabetic dental participants with 134 nondiabetic dental participants. Oral problems were seen more often in the people who had a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
The fungal species Candida can be found in the mouth of healthy people but can cause infection in patients with compromised immune systems. Diabetic patients are susceptible to infection because high and unstable blood sugar levels impair the immune system.</ins></ins></ins>

Implants can become inflamed when bacteria grow around them, just as it can around natural teeth. Keeping blood sugar levels under control help to prevent bacteria from growing. Bacteria grow when saliva provides it with energy in the form of sugar. As the bacteria grow and multiply, the compromised immune system is unable to fight the infection.

Diabetic foot ulcers are a serious complication of Type 2 diabetes and are related to the high levels of blood sugar sustained over time. These particular diabetic ulcers consist of open sores on the feet. If not prevented or treated early they can infect the bone, requiring intravenous antibiotics or even amputation. Worldwide 300 million people are expected to develop diabetic foot ulcer by the year 2025. By 2031 the number is projected to rise to 360 million, or 5 percent of the world's population, according to the National Institutes of Health in the United States. As stated by the American Podiatric Medical Association, diabetic foot ulcers occur in about 15 percent of people with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and usually develop on the bottom surface of the foot. About 6 percent of diabetics with the condition require hospitalization. In the United States...

about 19 percent of the people who develop diabetic foot ulcers require amputation.

a total of 85 percent of amputations in people diagnosed with diabetes follow foot ulcers.

In April of 2017, the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation reported on a study comparing the use of carbon dioxide laser therapy with standard treatment...

standard treatment consists of using a knife to cut away dead tissue.

carbon dioxide laser therapy consists of destroying dead tissue with laser radiation.

Investigators at the University of Careggi in Florence and several other research institutions in Italy found...

carbon dioxide laser therapy killed 99.9 percent of the bacteria in these type of ulcers.

standard treatment destroyed only 50 percent of the bacteria.

the amount of ulcer covered with dead skin decreased by more than 84 percent with the laser treatment, compared to

almost 47 percent of those receiving standard treatment.

The scientists concluded carbon dioxide lasers could be a useful treatment for healing diabetic foot ulcers.

Bacteria infecting foot ulcers are a mixed bunch. Antibiotics used to treat the ulcers are usually broad-spectrum, meaning they kill a wide variety of bacteria.

People with Type 2 diabetes are advised to take good care of their feet to prevent ulcers...

wearing properly fitted shoes and purchasing a new pair every year is a good start.

your feet should be kept clean: washed in lukewarm water and moisturized with lotion.

the toenails should be cut straight across. Professional nail clipping by a podiatrist is one option, particularly for any diabetics with poor eyesight or numbness in their feet.

Life offers many different pursuits. Money, relationships, status, and recognition are perhaps the most common. Each and every one of us can relate in some way. Unfortunately, we often overlook the greatest and most rewarding pursuit, which is improving and maintaining our health. It is by far the most important component of a "good life" because so much depends on our well-being.

We are all guilty of disregarding our health to some extent, favoring other objectives. We make mistakes: taking our health for granted is just one example. But we must learn from this, otherwise, we risk becoming ill and developing serious health problems.

What is your perspective on health and well-being? Do you believe it is as important as we are making it sound? Objectively, the greatest wealth is your health. Why? In the absence of good health, everything in your life is jeopardized...

your relationships may be strained,

your daily life may be encumbered, and

your life may be at risk.

Health cannot be bought. Although money solves many problems, reversing a disease or extending your life is often beyond what it can do. Even if you were the richest person in the world, what would be the point if you were chronically bedridden? You would not be able to enjoy your material wealth, not to mention your satisfaction with life would be severely impaired.

Which brings us to what is perhaps the most important point - your overall happiness. Your happiness and mental well-being are undoubtedly affected when your health is not up to par. Even minor worries and anxieties that surface when you are a Type 2 diabetic or chronically overweight, take their toll. The cost of being unhealthy is simply too high to withstand and that is not even considering we all have a final breaking point. But this is a stage you should not ever get to.

If you start to realize your health is the greatest wealth, you can begin to act accordingly. A healthy lifestyle is the best way to maximize your well-being and prevent common conditions like heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Needless to say, a healthy diet and regular physical activity are essential. But each offers many benefits beyond just improving your health, so it should be an easy decision to incorporate exercise and healthy eating into your daily life.

Ultimately, you should take care of yourself because your health is what is most precious. Don't make the mistake of realizing this later, when the damage might already be done.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

If you have received a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes and lowering your blood sugar levels and achieving weight loss are top of your list of things to do, please know eating healthily has got to be a daily commitment. You cannot be passive towards your condition and expect it to treat itself. You can hope as much as you like, but Type 2 diabetes does not go away without consistent effort. And people who do not control their Type 2 diabetes have chronically elevated blood sugar levels.
There is no cure for Type 2 diabetes, although it can be managed and the various complications avoided. You will not overcome diabetes overnight, but you can certainly take steps that will ultimately get you where you would like to be. Reducing your blood sugar, improving your insulin response and weight loss, are all factors you can influence, and by making a daily effort, you can ensure your diabetes does not exacerbate.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

The first step in taking care of your body is to make lifestyle changes, and if you need to, take medications, be they drugs or insulin injections. People who start making lifestyle changes reap tremendous health benefits almost immediately. Lifestyle changes are seen as an ongoing, long-term proposition rather than a quick fix...

a healthy diet,

increased physical activity, and

weight loss

are the safest and most efficient means for correcting your blood sugar levels and helping with weight loss. And by losing weight, you will do so much for your health it would be a shame if you were to overlook this opportunity. So we highly encourage you to start making a daily effort to lose weight, because it will make your Type 2 diabetes significantly more manageable.
Start eating healthily. We are not saying you have to go on a starvation diet that makes you question your sanity...

eat a healthy diet low in calories and saturated fat. Limit your fat intake to 30 percent of your calories for the day, and saturated fat to no more than 10 percent of your calorie intake.

choose more vegetables, fruit, lean meats, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and unsaturated fats.

reduce your sugar intake.

increase your fiber intake to 30 grams a day.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

Drink plenty of water. You have heard it before, but it bears mentioning because it's critical to stay hydrated. It helps you keep your hunger pangs at bay.
Be physically active. Physical activity contributes to combatting insulin resistance so your cells can remove sugar from the blood more efficiently. Lift weights, attend a fitness class or take part in moderate-intensity exercise such as brisk walking for approximately 20 minutes on five days a week. What you do does not matter, as long as you do something.
Lastly, ask yourself at the end of each day if you have done enough to fight those high blood sugar levels and any weight gain. You can treat your condition through daily effort - but only if you are honest with yourself.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

Most people can lose weight, but unfortunately few can keep it off long-term. Successful losers who keep their excess weight off...

watched their fat intake,

would eat breakfast to help them avoid overeating throughout their day,

exercised for twenty minutes each day on five out of seven days, and

frequently monitored their weight loss and continued to keep track of what they were eating.

Being overweight is the single biggest factor for developing Type 2 diabetes.
If you are looking to shed a few pounds but don't want to go on a full-blown diet, you may start looking into some of the tweaks you can make to your diabetic eating plan to get yourself on track and looking your best. You do not necessarily have to revamp your diet plan completely to see great results.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

Far from it! Sometimes all it takes is a change here or there. Here are four meal planning tips for accelerated weight loss...
1. Harness Spices. As often as you can, start incorporating spices into your cooking routine. Spices are an excellent way to rev up the flavor of your dishes without adding unwanted fat or calories.
Spices will get you eating healthily and have you reaping health benefits because of it. Remember many spices offer more than just flavor: they can boost the overall health benefits of the food as well.
2. Know Your Cooking Techniques. It is also important you understand the cooking techniques you are using. Are you steaming foods? Stir-frying? Deep frying? Each cooking method will alter the nutrition of the dish you are preparing, so be sure to choose accordingly.
If you are trying to cut back on fat, steaming is likely your best bet, while if you are looking to have more healthy fats in your diet, stir-frying might be wise.
3. Think Lean And Green. As you build your menu, think "lean and green." Focus each meal around a lean protein and combine with salad greens or other vegetables. Then add healthy fats and carbohydrates as needed.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

4. Watch The Add-Ons. Also, make sure you watch the add-ons. Are you drizzling on extra sauce? Are you adding condiments that pack on calories? Be highly aware of these because they can turn your meal from great to not so diet-friendly in a hurry.
Avoid add-ons as much as you can unless you know they are very healthy.
If you keep these four tips in mind, you should feel confident you are eating well. Some experimentation may be needed to find the best pattern for you.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

<strike></strike>

One of the main reasons some people suffer weight gain is simply an issue of overeating. You may not even be eating unhealthy foods; it is just when you do choose to eat, you eat way too much.

Sound familiar? If so, it is vital you do whatever you can to get your overeating under control so you can sustain a healthy daily calorie intake.

Let's look at four steps you can take to help prevent overeating next time you sit down at the table for a meal...

1. Slow Down. Speed eating is the biggest reason why many people consume more than they should. If you are eating too fast, you have the high probability of taking in too many calories before your body starts to register the satiety signals you will be receiving.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block; height: 100px;"><ins id="aswift_3_expand" style="background-color: transparent; border: none; display: inline-table; height: 100px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; visibility: visible; width: 374px;"><ins id="aswift_3_anchor" style="background-color: transparent; border: none; display: block; height: 100px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; visibility: visible; width: 374px;"></ins></ins></ins>

Then, when you finally do realize how full you feel, it is often too late, and you are faced with now being overly stuffed.

2. Picture Your Goals Before You Eat. Moving along, it is also important you imagine your goals before you eat. Reminding yourself of what it is you are working towards - whether it is...

healthy and stable blood sugar levels,

a life full of energy,

a dream body, or

the fact you will be there for your grandkids, keeping up with them as they run around,

think about this before you begin to eat.

Sometimes it can give you the motivation you need to put your fork down when you need to stop eating.

3. Fill Up On Salad First. Also consider filling up on a salad first. Salads are low in calories so you can eat a few cups without worry. Salad also takes up a lot of room in your stomach: this in turn can help to lower how much extra food you take in.

If you are not a big salad person, create a large batch of low-calorie vegetable soup instead. Serve the soup, and it will work much the same way.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block; height: 100px;"><ins id="aswift_4_expand" style="background-color: transparent; border: none; display: inline-table; height: 100px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; visibility: visible; width: 374px;"><ins id="aswift_4_anchor" style="background-color: transparent; border: none; display: block; height: 100px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; visibility: visible; width: 374px;">4. Use Smaller Plates. Finally, consider using smaller plates. As silly as it sounds, for some this helps keep overeating under wraps. With smaller plates, you think you are eating more but will automatically be eating less.</ins></ins></ins>

Try it and see if it works for you.

There you have a few great ways to help prevent overeating and keep up with your weight maintenance program and healthy blood sugar readings. Always remember overeating of any foods can lead to weight gain. It doesn't necessarily have to be unhealthy food that does it.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

the fact you will be there for your grandkids, keeping up with them as they run around,

think about this before you begin to eat.

According to a September
2016 report published in the journal Nutrients, dietary whole grain
oats are helpful for lowering blood sugar, blood lipids, and weight in people
who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Investigators at Peking
University in Beijing, China, divided the number of Type 2 diabetics into four
groups...

sixty participants received the usual care only,

Along with fruit, vegetables are at the heart of a diabetes prevention or management plan. They will help you keep your weight in check and also protect against heart disease, cancer, and several other health problems. Are you struggling to eat your five to ten servings of vegetables each day? Most people struggle, so you are in good company. One reason many people fail to take in the number of fruits and vegetables they need to eat is simply due to boredom. If you turn to the same vegetables day after day, yet another serving of broccoli, it is no wonder you have become bored.
Liven up your diabetes management plan with a few fresh options that will change how you view this important food group! Here are four delicious vegetables to consider adding to your meal plan starting today...

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

1. Bok Choy. Bok choy is an incredibly healthy green leafy vegetable that is one of the best non-dairy sources of calcium you can eat, so is ideal for fostering strong bone growth and development.
As well, bok choy is also going to supply a powerful dose of antioxidants, helping to fend off free radical damage. Serve bok choy stir-fried with a little olive oil and garlic for a tasty side dish able to go with just about any meal.
2. Asparagus. Asparagus is the next can't-miss vegetable to include in your diabetes treatment plan. One significant aspect about asparagus is it will act as a natural diuretic in your body. Therefore it may help to rid any excess retained water or bloating you may be experiencing.
If you are feeling a little heavier than usual - perhaps you ate a salty meal and the salt intake has left you feeling bloated: asparagus can help. Asparagus is also low on the Glycemic Index, so is an excellent choice for keeping your blood sugar levels in check.
3. Shitake Mushrooms. Shitake mushrooms are another unusual vegetable to add into your diabetic eating plan. This mushroom variety offers a unique taste and works well in stir-fry's as well as in Asian soups. These mushrooms are also relatively high in protein as compared to other vegetables, so if you have issues in meeting your protein needs, shitake mushrooms are one vegetable to consider adding to your meal plan.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

4. Cabbage. Last but not least, don't overlook cabbage. Cabbage is another leafy vegetable that offers serious cancer-fighting protection. The phytonutrient content of cabbage is incredibly high, so the one you will want to include in your protocol.
Cabbage is also relatively low in calories, so an easy add to just about any type of eating plan. Try it shredded and prepared into a healthy coleslaw or cooked in the form of cabbage rolls or cabbage soup. There are several possibilities.
So don't succumb to eating the same old boring vegetables day after day. Liven up your menu with any of these.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is usually defined as 140/90 or above. Prehypertension is defined as a systolic (top number) of at least 120 on two separate occasions or a diastolic of 80 or more, again on two separate occasions. High readings during pregnancy can be dangerous for mothers and their baby, as can Gestational diabetes. Scientists at Kaiser Permanente in Pasadena, USA, and Group Health Research Institute in Seattle, USA, looked at prehypertension during pregnancy. Their goal was to learn whether slightly high readings before or early in pregnancy, could be linked with hypertension and Gestational diabetes.
Their study, published in the Journal of Hypertension in June, 2015, included 7,802 women delivering their baby at Kaiser Permanente Hospital between the years 2005 and 2010. It was found women who had prehypertension before or during early pregnancy, were 2.65 times more likely to develop hypertension during pregnancy than were the expectant woman with normal readings. They were 2.17 times more likely to develop preeclampsia or eclampsia, a condition in which expectant mothers have convulsions, and 20 percent more likely to develop Gestational diabetes, compared to patients with normal blood pressure readings.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

From these results it was concluded there is a need for more screening for early blood pressure elevations and interventions to prevent pregnancy-related hypertension and Gestational diabetes.
High blood pressure readings are a common complication of pregnancy. Two to three percent of pregnancies are troubled by the condition. When hypertension is accompanied by swollen ankles and protein in the urine, preeclampsia is diagnosed. The condition can lead to eclampsia, or convulsions, and delivery becomes immediately necessary...

the placenta can break away early: a dangerous condition requiring surgery.

fetal growth can be restricted.

mothers diagnosed with high blood pressure readings during pregnancy are at risk for further high readings later in life.

To prevent hypertension...

it is best to attain normal weight before pregnancy and gain only the recommended amount during the pregnancy.

a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables not only helps prevent too much weight gain, but provides nutrients needed by both mother and baby.

taking prenatal vitamins with folic acid and calcium is thought by some to help prevent high blood pressure readings. It is certainly helpful for preventing birth defects and providing for bone growth. Every woman planning for pregnancy needs to take a prenatal vitamin each day.

walking every day can also be helpful for keeping blood pressure under control, if it is recommended by the obstetrician or midwife.

Finding out your child has Type 2 diabetes is one of the most difficult things for a parent to deal with. Here are some answers to questions you may be facing...
Why did my child develop type 2 diabetes? It's hard to tell exactly. There are several risk factors for children developing Type 2 diabetes. Some of the risk factors, like gender, race, and family history, can't be controlled - but the other risk factors can. These include a sedentary lifestyle, high blood pressure, high blood triglycerides (blood fat), and being overweight or obese.
I also have type 2 diabetes. Is that why my child got it? Your child is slightly more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes, since family history and race are risk factors. Researchers aren't sure why, but people who are Native American, African-American, Asian American, or Hispanic are more likely to get Type 2 diabetes. However, lifestyle factors, like your diet, exercise, and weight, actually play a much bigger role in whether or not your child will develop diabetes.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

How can I manage my child's diabetes? Your doctor will likely recommend managing your child's diabetes through a healthy diet, exercise, and metformin (an oral medication). Your doctor may also recommend your child takes insulin through injections or an insulin pump.
What diet will my child have to follow? There isn't one specific diabetes diet your child will have to follow. A healthy eating plan - one the whole family can follow - is best. This plan should include plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean meat, low-fat dairy, and whole grains. Your child's dietitian can help you make sure the carbohydrate intake is spread out throughout the day, which will help keep blood sugar levels steady.
What type of exercise can my child do? Any type of exercise! Exercise is great for managing Type 2 diabetes. When you child exercises, his body can more easily use glucose for energy, which prevents high blood sugar. Work with your doctor or diabetes care team to figure out how to adjust your child's meal plan and insulin when he exercises.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

Can my child's diabetes be reversed? Yes - this is the best news for parents to hear! It's been shown Type 2 diabetes can be reversed through weight loss. It's important to work with a dietitian to help your child lose weight through a combination of a healthy diet and exercise. The dietitian will help make sure your child loses weight safely and slowly - which will make it more likely your child won't gain the weight back. And remember, children are still growing, so just stabilizing your child's weight as he or she grows taller may be all that's necessary.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

<strike></strike>

Hydrocephalus, colloquially known as "water on the brain" takes place when there is an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles of the brain and leading to increased pressure inside the skull. This usually leads to gradual enlargement of the child's head.

Brain matter can be abnormally compressed by too much fluid. This is a serious condition that can lead to intellectual defects, tunnel vision, and convulsions. The brain is normally bathed in cerebrospinal fluid, which circulates through the brain and spinal cord. Hydrocephalus is created when the fluid is unable to drain from the brain to the spinal cord. Various factors, such as bleeding, neurological defect, and meningitis can be associated with the condition. Some cases start before the infant is born, while others begin outside the womb.

Researchers at the Washington State University, in Seattle, USA, and Seattle Children's Hospital, looked at hydrocephalus diagnosed during the first year after birth, and how three common types were associated with diabetes and other factors. Their study, reported on in November 2014 in the journal Pediatric Neurology, included...

1748 children with hydrocephalus and
19,700 without.
It was found hydrocephalus associated with neurological defect was almost twice as likely in children whose mothers had diabetes as in those with healthy mothers. Children of diabetic pregnancies were more than five times as likely to have hydrocephalus commence in the uterus or be associated with bleeding, as those from uncomplicated pregnancies. Other risk factors included race, with Caucasians having a higher risk than Asians, high blood pressure, and prematurity.

One in every 500 infants is diagnosed with hydrocephalus. There are about 75,000 diagnoses per year in United States hospitals alone. During well baby checkups, doctors measure the baby's head size to be sure their head is not too large due to fluid buildup. They chart head size as the infant grows to be sure the baby's head is growing at a normal rate.

When hydrocephalus is suspected, images of the brain are taken for diagnosis. When the condition is diagnosed a shunt is often inserted surgically. A shunt consists of a plastic tube that conveys cerebrospinal fluid from the head to another point in the body, where it can then be removed.

One method of helping to prevent hydrocephalus is to maintain a healthy pregnancy. Mothers need to avoid or control Type 2 and Gestational diabetes by...

following a healthy eating plan,
maintaining weight control, and
taking part in adequate exercise
Type 1 diabetes should be controlled with insulin as directed by the doctor.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

One of the warning signs of Type 2 diabetes is excessive thirst. If this was something you noticed before you were diagnosed, you may be wondering what caused your thirst. Learning more about excessive thirst can help you better understand Type 2 diabetes, and also alert you so you are able to avoid developing one of the destructive complications associated with this form of diabetes.

When you have Type 2 diabetes, your body either doesn't produce enough insulin, or doesn't respond well to insulin. Scientists don't know the exact cause of this - or why it happens to some people and not others. But they do know obesity is the main risk factor for Type 2 diabetes, and for most people, diabetes occurs when your pancreas becomes clogged with fatty particles. These particles damage the pancreas and make it so it can't produce as much insulin.

Insulin has an important role in your body - it moves glucose (sugar) from your blood to your cells, where it can be used for energy. When there isn't enough insulin or it's not working right, there are two problems that happen. First, the sugar never makes it to your cells so your body doesn't receive the energy it needs.

The other problem is the sugar builds up in your blood where it causes problems with many organs of your body. High blood sugar levels damage the blood vessels, eyes, and nerves, leading to serious diabetes complications. This is where the excessive thirst comes in. When sugar builds up in your blood, your kidneys start working hard to get rid of it so it doesn't cause problems throughout your body. Your kidneys do this by pulling water from other areas of your body and making you urinate more often. This gets rid of the sugar - but it also makes you thirsty since you need to replace the fluid your kidneys are excreting.

Now you know what causes thirst in Type 2 diabetes, you can use your thirst as a way to monitor how well you're managing your blood sugar. You'll also check your blood sugar throughout the day, which is the best way to monitor your control of Type 2 diabetes. Through following a healthy meal plan, exercising, and possibly taking insulin and/or oral diabetes medications, you'll be able to take control of your condition and make sure your blood sugar doesn't get too high. This will help you get the energy you need from what you eat and avoid many of the dangerous diabetes complications.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

That said, it is okay to include fruit from time to time as long as you are being careful with how much you eat.

Fruit will contain natural fruit sugars, but it also comes packed with fiber, antioxidants, and a number of other vitamins and minerals that are too important to overlook.

Various fruits will have different rankings on the GI scale, so that is also something to be aware of. Pineapple is one such fruit that does rank slightly higher, coming in with a medium ranking, but as long as you keep your serving to about ¼ to ½ cup, you can certainly still include it into your eating plan.

Here is why pineapple is such a beneficial fruit...

1. The Nutritional Content. When looking at pineapple, it's a clear winner as far as vitamin C is concerned. You will take in over 100% of your daily quota with a one cup serving, so can easily get 50% if you eat your half a cup.

You'll also get some manganese, copper, vitamin B1, vitamin B6, as well as folate and pantothenic acid.

2. Benefits. Pineapple is an excellent fruit to help boost your health in a number of ways. First, it'll provide some anti-inflammatory benefits, reducing inflammation in the body and combating any related conditions.

It also helps to support digestion, so can be a great way to finish off a meal if you want to reduce the chances of indigestion.

It will help to provide immune system support, helping you fend off free radical damage and other invading bacteria and illness.

Finally, the vitamin B found in pineapple can also help to boost your energy generation from the different foods you eat.

3. How To Serve. So now you see how beneficial this fruit is, how can you serve it?

Try it sliced and fresh for a delicious sweet treat, or consider adding several cubes into a bowl of Greek yogurt. Pineapple also works great with coconut flakes sprinkled on top, so you can grill up one or two slices and then top with coconut if desired.

So, as you can see, it is one fruit not to miss out on. Keep your portion controlled and you can definitely include it as part of your diabetic eating plan.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

For nearly 25 years Beverleigh Piepers has searched for and found a number of secrets to help you build a healthy body.

Being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes usually means making many changes to your life. One of the changes you will need to deal with is the number of health professionals you'll work with. Your primary diabetes doctor will help you build a health care team to coordinate your care and help you get the most out of the health care system. A health care team usually consists of at least...

a primary diabetes doctor,

nurse educator, and

a registered dietitian.

You may also work with a pharmacist, foot doctor, or eye doctor. If you haven't worked with these health professionals before, here's what you can expect...

1. Primary Diabetes Doctor. He is usually an endocrinologist, internist, or family doctor. This doctor will take the lead on your diabetes management. Your primary diabetes doctor will complete yearly checkups and order tests to check your hemoglobin A1c, cholesterol levels, and more. He or she will also help refer you to providers to make up the rest of your diabetes care team. You can prepare for your appointments by writing down any new symptoms you are experiencing and any questions you want to ask the doctor. Bring a pen and paper or tablet to record what the doctor tells you. You may also need to avoid eating and drinking before this appointment if you'll be having fasting glucose tests.

2. Nurse Educator. This person may be a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) who is trained to teach you how to manage your disease. He or she will teach you...

how to check your blood sugar,

give yourself insulin injections, and

more.

The nurse educator will also explain the symptoms of high and low blood sugar. Your first visit will be an assessment of how you're doing and what you need help with, and you'll leave with a plan to help you better manage your diabetes. You will meet with your diabetes educator at least once a year, or more often if your hemoglobin A1c is high and you would like more help.

3. Registered Dietitian (RD). The registered dietitian who may also be a CDE, will help you determine your nutritional needs and create a meal plan. The meal plan will take into account your age, lifestyle, weight, and any medications you're taking. To prepare for this visit, you may be asked to do a food recall, which means you'll write down everything you eat for three days. You may also need to bring in your blood sugar log. As with any appointment, it's a good idea to think about questions you'll ask ahead of time. You may also want to write down any nutritional goals you'd like to achieve so your dietitian can work with you to help you meet these goals.

If can be worrisome to see someone you care about ignore their disease while their health continues to decline. To best help your family member to start paying attention to their Type 2 diabetes and any complications they may be experiencing, it can be helpful to first understand why Type 2 diabetics may choose to ignore their condition.

It can be very difficult for someone to accept they have diabetes when they're first diagnosed. There are a few different reasons...

one possibility is the symptoms may be so minor they feel they can deal with them.

maybe the only symptom at first is getting up at night to urinate more frequently, and it feels easier to live with this inconvenience than deal with changing their lifestyle.

another option is the possible complications of high and unstable blood sugar, like blindness and limb amputations, are unreal or just too scary to think about.

Denying these complications altogether could be another outcome, and ignoring the disease altogether can just be easier than accepting any complications could actually affect to their body.

Finally, another reason is it could bring up memories of friends or family members who have struggled with this disease. After watching someone else trying to control their blood sugar levels for years, the newly diagnosed diabetic is familiar with the process. And the thought of going through the same process is too scary to face so, it seems simpler to think about the diagnosis sometime in the future.

As you know, it's dangerous for uncontrolled high blood sugar levels to continue to be ignored and untreated. Even if symptoms are minor at first, the extra sugar in the bloodstream is causing damage that may not show up for several years. Besides eye complications and foot problems, high blood sugar causes damage to the cardiovascular system. Almost three-fourths of people with Type 2 diabetes die of a heart attack or stroke. So, it's important to control diabetes to keep blood vessels healthy, even if the damage isn't showing right now.

So how can you help someone to stop ignoring their Type 2 diabetes diagnosis? One idea is to support your family member by making it a total family approach. Make healthy changes for the family to follow together. For example, instead of eating three large meals every day, eat three small meals with healthy snacks between meals. This will help maintain stable blood sugar levels throughout the day, and help with weight loss. Studies reveal even if the weight loss is not significant, perhaps only 5 to 7 percent of body weight, the complications of diabetes - the nerve, artery, heart, and vascular damage - can be reduced.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

The 411 On Cinnamon And Diabetes

Many diabetics have asked the question "does cinnamon help diabetes?" as this seems to be one of the common natural remedies that seems to be floating around. This article seeks to understand the relationship between cinnamon and diabetes and the rationale as to why cinnamon is usually recommended for diabetes.
Cinnamon
Also known as Ceylon cinnamon, Saigon or Chinese cinnamon (also known as Cassia), the parts used for culinary purposes and healing are the inner bark. More than a sweet treat, cinnamon has been used for many centuries to help treat many health conditions and more recently to fight diabetes.
Cinnamon Recommended Uses
1. Infection
Cinnamon helps to fight decay and disease causing bacteria, fungi and viruses. It is also a very powerful antiseptic. This is why it is commonly used in tooth paste, dental floss, applied to minor scrapes and cuts, etc.
2. Digestive issues
Cinnamon helps with digestive issues because it is able to help the body digest ice cream, cakes, cookies and many other high fat sweets and treats.
Some studies have shown that cinnamon is able to break down fat in the digestive system and is endorsed in some parts of the world as an effective natural remedy for bloating, indigestion, flatulence and abdominal distress.
3. Pain
The eugenol that cinnamon contains which is a natural anesthetic oil can help relieve the pain associated with minor cuts and scrapes.
4. Cholesterol
Some research studies found that consuming cinnamon can help lower cholesterol by up to 26 percent which can help lower the risk of heart disease.
Cinnamon and Diabetes
Cinnamon and diabetes have been shown to have a beneficial link because it appears that cinnamon helps to increase insulin sensitivity. One of the causes of diabetes is thought to be insulin resistance which is when inexplicably, the body rejects the insulin produced by the pancreas.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block;"></ins>

Cinnamon may be able to fight against insulin resistance and thereby help reduce blood sugar (glucose).
To Use Cinnamon for Diabetes
Cinnamon can be easily added to food or a beverage.

Consider adding ¼ to ½ teaspoon of cinnamon to your food or drink.

Make a warm spicy infusion with up to ¾ teaspoon of powdered cinnamon added to boiling water and steeped for up to 20 minutes. You may strain if you desire. Drink this up to 3 times a day.

For minor cuts and scrapes, sprinkle a little cinnamon on the area.

Precautions with Cinnamon Usage
Cinnamon found in many spice areas of the grocery stores is usually used for diabetes management with no issues. Cassia is the type of cinnamon that is most beneficial for diabetes management and unlike Ceylon cinnamon, Cassia contains a compound known as coumarin which can be toxic to the liver and can interact with blood thinners when taken frequently. So do exercise caution when using this cinnamon and get checked for liver toxicity.
Other recommendations include avoiding this issue by taking cinnamon capsules or using a water based extract which are just as effective but safer than Cassia. A basic water extract you can make is to place cinnamon in a water filter, pour hot water over the cinnamon and serve.
While most powdered cinnamon is nontoxic, cinnamon oil presents problems and when applied to the skin, can result in burning and redness. When ingested, cinnamon oil can cause kidney damage, nausea and vomiting. Avoid cinnamon oil.
If pregnant, exercise caution when using cinnamon outside the normal amounts used in culinary dishes.
Cinnamon And Diabetes, is definitely an area that you should look into if you are trying to manage diabetes naturally. There are certainly many positive testimonials from many diabetics who use cinnamon for diabetes and this is an herb that is easily accessible for most people which makes it a great natural treatment for diabetes.

No matter who you are, what you eat is very important. And as a Type 2 diabetic what you eat directly affects your blood sugar levels and your weight. Controlling what and when you eat is the most important part of your self-management, whether your aim is to lower and control your blood sugar or lose some weight.
You likely hear a lot about carbohydrates, but fat and protein are also important. If you feel a little confused by all the nutrition information you're receiving, here is a brief overview that will help you understand exactly what it is that's on your plate.
Everything we eat can be broken down into three categories...

macronutrients,

micronutrients, and

water.

Macronutrients are components of food that our bodies need in large amounts, while micronutrients are needed in much smaller amounts. The macronutrients are...

carbohydrate,

fat, and

protein.

The micronutrients are...

 vitamins and

 minerals.

Our body needs micronutrients, but in much smaller amounts than the macronutrients.
All three macronutrients - carbohydrates, fat, and protein - have important functions in our body. They are necessary for growth, maintenance, and repair. Each nutrient has a certain number of calories per gram. Carbohydrates and protein both have four calories per gram, while fat has nine calories per gram. There are different ways you can structure your diet to ensure you get enough of each nutrient. For example, you may eat a diet that is...

 30 percent protein,

 20 percent fat, and

 50 percent carbohydrate.

This is less carbohydrate than the typical American diet, so it may be a good choice for Type 2 diabetics who need to limit their intake of carbohydrates.
Alcohol also provides energy to the body - seven calories per gram - but it isn't considered a macronutrient as it is not necessary for our body to function, and it actually has a detrimental effect on growth, repair, and maintenance of the body's tissues. Alcohol is like poison to the body, and our body needs to work hard to get rid of it. If you do drink, drink in moderation, and remember the alcohol you drink will add calories to your daily total intake.
Micronutrients also contribute to growth, repair, and maintenance of your body. They are consumed in small amounts and don't add any calories to food...

there are 13 essential vitamins, including Vitamin A, C, D, E, K, and all the B vitamins, and

there are 16 essential minerals, like calcium, fluoride, iron, and potassium.

Eating a healthy diet with lots of...

 fruits,

 vegetables,

 lean meats,

 low-fat dairy products, and

 whole grains

is the best way to get sufficient essential vitamins and minerals. If you're having a hard time taking in certain vitamins or minerals, your doctor or dietitian may recommend a supplement to increase your intake.
And don't forget about water - our body needs lots of it! Water has many roles, like

 lubricating joints and organs,

 regulating our temperature,

 keeping blood volume steady, and

 transporting nutrients throughout your body.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your blood sugar levels and your weight. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

For example, before a meal you might aim for 70 to 130 mg/dL (3.9 to 7 mmol/L), and after a meal you may aim for less than 180 mg/dL (10mmol/L).

To check your blood sugar, you'll use a lancing device to stick your finger and produce a small drop of blood for testing. Some lancing devices also allow you to test your hand, forearm, or thigh, which may be less sensitive. You'll then put a drop of blood on the test strip and insert the strip into your glucose meter as indicated. After inserting the test strip into your meter, your results will show up on the screen.

It's a good idea to keep some type of log where you can track your results. You can...

print off an online blood sugar log,

use a small notebook,

keep track of your blood sugar online, or on your smartphone.

This way, you can see what causes your blood sugar to go up or down, and notice any trends of changes in values. If you're having a hard time controlling your test results, your log can be helpful for the doctor to make changes to your Type 2 diabetes lifestyle plan.

As you know the food you eat, especially carbohydrates, makes a difference to your test results. Exercise, stress, and even the time of day can also effect your results. Keeping a log will help you figure out how each of these effects your body so you can make adjustments as needed. For example, you can figure out...

how to adjust the amount of carbohydrates you eat on days when you spend more time exercising.

Or you may notice from your log certain events cause you to feel more stress and your blood sugar spikes. Then you can figure out...

how to better deal with the stressful event and keep your results steady.

Overall, testing is the best tool you have for monitoring your Type 2 diabetes. In time, you can learn how to best control your intake of carbohydrates and you may not need to check your blood sugar as often.

Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. By making simple changes to your daily routine, its possible to protect your heart, kidneys, eyes and limbs from the damage often caused by high blood sugar, and eliminate many of the complications you may already experience.

Type 2 Diabetes - The Top Six Low-Sugar Fruits for Diabetics By
Beverleigh H Piepers

There's nothing like eating fresh fruit - biting into a crisp tart apple or a juicy, dripping watermelon slice, or a soft fuzzy peach. Fruit tastes good and fruit is good for you, no doubt, but did you know that fruits contain very different amounts of sugar in each of them? That tart apple may have far more sugar than that fuzzy peach.

Living with Type 2 diabetes, it's important to be aware of your overall sugar intake. Generally speaking, whole fresh produce - including all fruits, is a great addition to most diabetic meal plans, but that doesn't mean you should be eating bunches of sugary bananas or bags of sweet cherries every day.

Here are six of the lowest sugar fruits you can find at the market. They're...

available year-round,

grown in most parts of the world, and

are all economical,

so you've got no reason not to eat them on a regular basis. Data is collected by the USDA and reflects the sugar content within a 100-gram serving of each fruit.

Top Six Lowest-Sugar Fruits...

Avocado: less than 1 gram. Yes, the avocado is actually a fruit, not a vegetable! This buttery, creamy fruit is full of fiber and healthy fats, and it's perfect for sweet and savory dishes. Slice ½ an avocado and serve over eggs for a lean protein breakfast, or add a few slices to a corn tortilla taco. For dessert, puree ½ an avocado with frozen fruits for a naturally sweet shake.

Raspberries: 4.4 grams. Raspberries are the perfect sweet-tart berry. Add them to a whole grain baking mix for delightful cornbread, muffin, and cupcake recipes. Or add them to spinach and leafy green salads, along with a sprinkling of almonds.

Blackberries: 4.5 grams. Blackberries are tart, juicy, and full of flavor. They're great mixed with yogurt, granola, or stirred into cooked oatmeal. Try a great topping for roasted meats and fish: sauté a handful of blackberries with honey and olive oil, then pour the sauce over your meat.

Strawberries: 4.7 grams. Strawberries need no introduction. Serve them over cereal, spooned into yogurt, and topped with homemade whipped cream for dessert. Or gently mash a bowl of berries with balsamic vinegar, and top with mascarpone cheese for a fancy, sugar-free dessert.

Watermelon: 6.2 grams. Watermelon is probably best enjoyed as simple slices, but it's also great stirred into cottage cheese. Watermelon also makes one fantastic fresh lemonade: just puree fresh watermelon cubes with fresh lemon juice, adding a small bit of sugar if desired - strain and serve.

Cantaloupe: 7 grams. Like watermelon, cantaloupe is great eaten whole. But for a great appetizer or snack, serve small cubes with thinly sliced prosciutto and a sprinkling of feta cheese.

The USDA recommends you eat 5 to 8 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables each day - which can seem like an overwhelming number. But realistically, a serving of fruit is about half-a-cup, so you can hit your daily goal by adding a handful of berries to your yogurt, chopped strawberries to your cereal, or a slice of watermelon with cottage cheese for dessert. It all adds up in a healthy, delicious way.

Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. But now many children are also being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. What is causing children to develop this form of diabetes normally found in adults, and what can be done to prevent it?

One of the main reasons is that children and teens are more overweight than ever before. The number of children and teens with diabetes has increased along with the increase in overweight and obesity. There are many causes for this increase - unfortunately our society generally is much less active than before...

more time is spent in front of the television and computer.

children ride the bus to school in lieu of walking or biking.

there's less time for recess and physical education in schools.

Good nutrition has become more difficult as well. It's often cheaper and more convenient to eat less healthy foods. So we really need to make extra effort in order to stay active and eat healthily.

If your child is overweight and at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, there's still a lot you can do to prevent it. Eating healthy food, getting lots of physical activity, and losing weight are key. It also helps if the whole family can make lifestyle changes at the same time - it's difficult for one person to make changes alone.

Since children are still growing, it's a good idea to work with a dietitian to make sure they lose weight safely and only if they need to. Dietitians can give you ideas for your child to eat healthy foods and lose weight while still getting sufficient food and nutrition. For example, the plate method is a good way to structure meals. Fill half the plate with non-starchy vegetables, a quarter with lean protein, and the last quarter with whole grains. This is a healthy way to eat for each and every member of the family!

As for physical activity, the minimum recommendation for children is usually one hour per day. These eye problems are caused by high blood sugar, which damages the small blood vessels of the eye. There are a few main types of eye problems that are more common in people who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes...

1. Diabetic Retinopathy. Many people with Type 2 diabetes eventually develop retinopathy which is damage to the retina of the eye. Retinopathy happens when the small blood vessels that supply the retina are damaged. The blood vessels become blocked and fluid leaks out into the retina. The retina swells, resulting in blurred vision.

Retinopathy may be mild, or it can be severe and even lead to blindness. Fortunately, the better you control your blood sugar, the less likely you are to develop damage to your retina, and if you do develop problems they will be milder.

2. Cataracts are more common in people with diabetes. They happen when fluid gets trapped in the front of the eye and forms a cloudy area. This causes blurred or glared vision. Mild cataracts can be treated by wearing sunglasses and wearing glasses with a glare-control lens. Surgery is usually carried out for more severe cataracts.

3. Glaucoma is also more common in those with diabetes. Glaucoma occurs when pressure builds up in the eye and pinches the small blood vessels. The decreased blood supply damages the retina and the nerves of the eye. Glaucoma can be treated by medications or surgery, depending on how severe it is.

Sometimes, these eye problems can start developing without any symptoms. This is why it's important to have regular eye exams. It's usually recommended to have an eye exam and retinal screening once a year. This will look for any damage to the retina that is developing. Eye problems can be treated much better if they are caught early. If retinopathy is diagnosed early on, 90% of cases of blindness can be prevented.

The good news is managing your blood sugar well helps prevent eye problems. You can manage your blood sugar with diet and exercise, oral medications, and/or insulin injections.

There are other steps you can take that also lower your risk of developing eye problems...

avoiding smoking helps and is in general a good idea for people who have been diagnosed with diabetes. It only hastens your vision loss because of free-radical damage to delicate eye capillaries.

controlling your blood pressure and cholesterol levels can help keep blood vessels healthy and prevent eye problems.

So, eating a healthy diet and managing your weight are important as they help in several ways, by controlling your...

blood sugar,

blood pressure, and

cholesterol levels.

For nearly 25 years Beverleigh Piepers has searched for and found a number of secrets to help you build a healthy body.
