A couple of days ago I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab, the 5.3 inch Android device is either a big phone or a small tablet and I really like it. I posted my first impressions yesterday and here is a quick unboxing and first look at the device.

Samsung Smart TVs have a range of apps and one feature they showed me at CES was their kids experience. Parents often worry that their kids spend to much time watching TV so Samsung have built rewards and monitoring into their TV so kids could get an extra 30 minutes watching TV if they have done their homework.

Not to sure the kids would apprricate this no mater how cute it looks but checkout the video showing off some of the features:

As well as access to the Android marketplace Samsung have their own app store on their Android devices, in this video a Samsung rep at CES explains what it is and what is in the store. I am not sure whether its a good or bad thing to be honest, I like the idea of a curated app store but not sure about the fragmentation issues it could through up.

I have talked about Gridsearch before on the TDL and while I CES I bumped in to Jonathan Bowes from GridSearch and he gave me a demo of the HTML5 version of the app. With GridSearch you can easily jump to a specific point in a video using a great visual UI. In this video you can see how well it works and how well it could work on a touch screen tablet.

Yesterday Samsung’s SUR40 Microsoft Surface powered device started shipping, the 40 inch multitouch screen starts at $8,400 (you pay extra for the stand). In this video Samsung showed me an example of a retail experience using Microsoft Surface.

At CES I visted Sonos to look at what they are showing off this year. We looked at the Play 3 lower cost player and talked about their app for iPhone,iPad, Android phone and Tablets. This year they are focusing on a broader market going in to Target stores in the UK and Currys in the UK

How would you like a tiny little PC with built-in laser keyboard? How about a tiny PC with built-in laser keyboard and pico projector? That is what CTX technologies showed me today at CES. The tiny Atom powered PC has a laser keyboard, small LCD screen and pico projector. In this video they demo the prototype unit and they also have a laser keyboard for the iPhone so I recorded a demo of that as well.

Yesterday while I was meeting with DLNA they told me about DLNA Premium Video, a way of watching premium content over DLNA. DLNA Premium Video enables the streaming of content live movies and TV shows to DLNA certified clients and by ensuring the content is protected its acceptable to content providers.
