Personal: A month without an update

Well that's right, its what the title says, it's has been a full month without updating anything on my site and it was a bit of a personal disappointment on my end because I have been busy and exhausted with a lot of things especially with that of working at the parks.

It hasn't been a really great experience but the pay is great for at least the first 1.3 weeks.

Well this happened over the week aside from the impending Doomsday Budget and the loss of service of lines and trains in the city it makes one wonder what about the other cities and their transportation systems going through the same thing.

Anyway, I'm reading on the latest news and this is what peaked my interest.

Ads on School Exams

Apparently cash strapped schools are finding ways to make money and one way is to slap on ads on tests from student-friendly places like pizzerias and stuff. Link 1 Link 2

Sci-Fi becomes "SyFy"

That's right! coming this summer, Sci-Fi channel will become SyFy and I have no idea why they are doing this or how to even identify it when the change happens. link

Money > Freedom

The Port Authority, the people who are behind MTA, the bridges and tunnels and every other transport venue in the Tri State Area including the Freed... Oh wait when it comes to money calling the new building "Freedom Tower" isn't marketable so instead they are renaming it back to One World Trade Center. Kind of a buzzkill when money sends a big fat 'fuck you' to the families of the victims on that tragic day. link

Well, days ago two events came up during the week that took place at East river park on the Lower East Side. they where both sponsored by Red Bull and it featured the best in snowboarding where they constructed this massive 9 story downhill slope. Easy to say when the first event "Snowscrapers" came in I was interested but seeing the live webcast made me think differently and decided to skip out on that. I was warm and comfortable under the blankets while watching those poor suckers eating the cold and bad metal music that is supposed to fit in with the theme of event which is a bunch of snowboarders going down an artificial slope. Screw that!

Then came Saturday and thought it would be great to see WinterJam which moved from its previous location at Central Park. With a few exceptions this year sucked just as bad as Snowscrapers, it was overcrowded, restricted in some areas, didn't have enough of everything like in the events past long before when it was called "WinterFest". I thought all hope was lost (or at least till next year rolls around and comes up with this shit) I came across a small flyer for this small taco shack called "Snack Dragon". It's located off the corner of Avenue B and east 3rd street.

I forgot the name of their signature taco but it was the best I ever had and it was $5 that I never regret spending. Also the owner was okay with the fact I took down one of the flyers because I forget where that place is so easily. I still have it with me and it was the best. Here's hoping I can find and eat at that place again much like the guy who owns the food cart at ludlow...

NYC Marathon Days

Man what a crazy two weeks it has been from last month past Halloween until marathon day back on Sunday the second. I spent the last three days working as a Marshall for the ING New York City Marathon as a Marshall and was often disappointed that they no longer serve lunch and dinner at the volunteers' lounge instead they served what they got at the snack bars with $14 worth in vouchers. They were gone with what I have which was a foot-long for $5.50, Fries for 3.30 and a small soda for $2-3.20. Lets just say for the price of the foot long or single cheeseburger I can get a deluxe meal for that price outside the city.

Then came race day where I was sitting outside in the freezing air waiting for other volunteers to show up to get on the buses to head for Fort Wadsworth which is a position I've been wanting for years now. Hours later there was alot of people and I helped around making sure they get the following

Poncho
Hat
T-shirt
Credentials
Dunkin' Donuts Card (complements of the organization that I'm volunteering for)

The whole ordeal was so busy I nearly never gotten all of my stuff. The day started in the bus before it headed off with some breakfast which is made up of a 'bagelfuls' plain then a carton of OJ, a granola bar and finally a granny smith apple which I had. As the time passed and I did my rounds I finally made it on the way to the staging area and already fifth avenue was closed on one side for the buses to pick up all the runners to the area too.

Upon reaching the highway after listening to my music and ell that I realized that my day was going to be a shitkicker to moment I realized until the bus rolled away that I left my cellphone on board one of the buses. I can't remember the number on the bus all it did had was the ad for '30 rock' on it. I don't even remember if I had it on ring or not but all I get was a voicemail via one of the other volunteers phones. The effort was useless to find a phone in thousands of transports.

That didn't let me down much as I stat in the warming tent to get something to eat before getting to my assignment which was freezing as hell. I managed to get on my poncho over my windbreaker and head off to the pace team leader tent which we stood guard until 10. Just hoping our supervisor got there to pic me and another one up we have to keep other people out while putting up with a bunch of rowdy idiots (emphasis on 'rowdy idiots') who will guide thousands down the city.

When time passed we wait for the supervisor to pick us up.

She never did...

We gave up waiting to find out she forgot about us and we were freezing in an empty tent. I waited it out hoping to get back to Manhattan to nearly miss my bus there. It ended with blisters on my right foot and an exhausted spirit hoping for next year it doesn't suck.

Election Day

I didn't have to go to work because I was going to make an easy $250 and do my duty as a poll worker for the 2008 general elections. From 5:30 in the morning to 9 at night I have to endure long hours, constant arguing with voters on where they should go to vote unless they need to do a paper ballot and surviving not completely sleeping on the spot when there is no voters around.

I gotten some things to eat to keep myself from starving and visited neighboring voting sites around to see it was more busier than ours. When the day was over I needed to make it to my voting spot to cast my vote and for the record. I choose Obama from things other than historical/possibility value: He's the lesser of two evils and after what Bush has done, there is not the time for maverick behavior to run this country.

We were all in a panic to get the stuff together and wanting to get out as fast as possible. What came out of it? I voted for the first time and...

... and that's much it.

Collecting Papers

Ever since Obama won the election, newspapers have been in rush supply for becoming collectors items. I got mines already except for the famous New York Times edition and I never got back the call for the customer rep for the New York Post type too. But I will get more in the future when the Sunday collectors edition of the Daily News comes out later today.

Well every once in a while I come visit and watch the various rantings and toons from Johnathan Ian Matther's Neurotically Yours on Ill Will Press and one of the episodes featured Foamy ranting on restaurants on several parts. Funny that it call was starting to come true one saturday night at Applebees's. One of them was how there will be children who would just loose it and cry their brains out, next up the waitress who comes in at the most inopportune time to tell me how the food and service was.

But she got off easy because she was nice but somewhere along the way I was tempted to grab her by the arm, let me finish chewing and lecture her for 17 minutes on the service was just so I can order again because my food has just turned cold.

Then comes the worst part is when the bunch of the servers come out of nowhere to sing 'happy birthday' not once... not twice... but three times in a day! If I really have the balls I would take a flamethrower to that place!
