The individuality of this home is seriously appealing. The art and collected objects all gel together as if it were meant to be.

But the little seed that this place has germinated in my head is - why is my shed full of steel shelves when they look so good indoors?

Requires Attention

This place hit me on a few levels, each of which requires attention.

Firstly the wall mounted Tolomeo made me remember that I have some on back order for my bedroom. They're meant to arrive in February - well it's February now, where are they?! Inane task of chasing them up is required.

The rich velvets in the living room made me think I should put recovering my wing chair a bit further up the priority list. (why is there no priority list fairy that comes and leaves a blank cheque btw?!!) Juggling the priority list to make it accommodate nice things as well as the necessary is required.

And finally that timber and mirror vintage bedside table just completely gut hooked me. How ridiculously beautiful is that. Hours scouring the ether to find out where/how/who/how much is required.

Hard To Resist

I spotted this fantastic place over at Ally's blog the other day and just loved it. The house is in Mexico and screams this understated chic style that I find hard to resist.

Casual living spaces, and some glamour where it is required like the bedroom and bathroom. Original tiles and rustic walls and the odd chandelier. Not a bad mix.

The casual chic of this home is something I'd love to achieve. Some people do it naturally and it shows.

I keep working on the theory that if you just keep/buy only things that you truly love, it will come. Not over night, but in time.

The Sight Of

There is something rather magical about bunks don't you think. The sight of them usually has me regressing and wishing I was twelve again. I particularly love the rugs too, great colours.

The clean lines of this home mixed with a good dose of quirky lighting and stylish furniture is a winner in my book.

Boo Hoo

I have severe bruising at the moment from kicking myself. Hard.

There I was Thursday lunch time scouring Gumtree for the last few minutes before I knuckled back down to it, and what should I find but this incredible original wall unit listed. Best bit, it was going for free. Yep, that's right FREE. And to put the icing on the cake, the owner had already disassembled it and had it neatly stacked ready for collection.

The ad was fresh, just listed. I was just about to pick up the phone and put dibs on it, when I had to head downstairs for a meeting. Damn it all to hell and back. And sadly an hour or two later, it was gone. Oh this would have been splendid in the Splendour. But I guess it was not to be. Boo hoo.

So how has your week been? Brilliant, I hope. And thanks a lot for making The Diversion Project part of it. As always, I'm very glad that you do!

Special And Lovely

I was as green as the colour of this combi when I had a catch up over at one of my favourite blogs recently. The aesthetically stunning, junkaholique.

I hadn't been past there for some time, so two coffees and lots of inspiration and beauty later, I came away with a real desire to go out and buy the first combi I could find.

It has been a little closet dream that has never gone anywhere, because the minute I murmur the slightest mention of it - my two boys veto the idea outright.

This very clever and creative couple really know how to camp (you should seriously take some time going through the archives and get a look at their tee pee) and they also really know how to decorate too (if you've never seen them, you'll be amazed at their sheds). So there was no surprise that in turning their hands to a combi, something really special and lovely was the end result.

If you're in need of a little nomadic day dreaming like I was last weekend - do go and put the kettle on. You'll be there a while.

I like the irreverence of this home. The concrete blocks and timber plank shelving unit (even though it is actually nicely done) meet Togo sofas in a mix of low end and high end items - all with the same aesthetic, but with money directed to priorities.

Same principle plays out in the kitchen too. Just goes to show you can have your cake and eat it too.

The architectural details in this home are sublime don't you think. The tall french doors, genteel lead light glass, mouldings galore - all so beautiful.

But it's nice to see some modern elements in the mix too. But these have been done in a gentle manner too, so there is no competition. Just a lovely blend.

Apart from being a good solid all-rounder in the coolness stakes, this home grabbed me in the black wall sector of my brain. It's been quiet for quite a while now. I think the fact that it is in a bedroom setting really clinched it.

Although white is really settling in nicely into my consciousness here at the Splendour, my old black wall just felt so nice to sleep next to. Calm, dark and enveloping.

I'm a sucker for a good home visit. The genuine goodness that a person's home has evolved over time is nearly impossible to replicate.

The scale of these rooms made me seriously jealous. But I also loved all the great vintage style, there's some really fab pieces here don't you think?

Small Style

I never cease to be amazed how people with limited space make the most of every inch they have. Quite often a loft bed is in the mix, as is the case here with the only bedroom being used by a child. But I have never seen a loft bed with its very own juliet balcony.

This bespoke bed is my idea of small style at its best. Not only is the item completely functional but the form is beautiful too. Bravo.

Hello, how's everyone's weekend rolling? Smoothly I hope.

Thought I'd quickly show you a little project I ticked off the never ending list. With the temperatures here up in the 40's for days (to be clear, that is centigrade btw!!) I've been indoors without any excuse to walk past little jobs like this waiting to be done.

First achievement was packing away the remnants of Christmas - so the tonne of baubles that have been living in those three little thrifted parats have been put away for another year. I know, not really a biggy in the achievement stakes, but I had to talk it up to convince myself to do it!

But the main achievement was taking one of my under $10 thrift store picture frames and converting it into something worth showing. This big frame had a very 80's collection of maroon and orange tulips, which has now bit the recycling bin. I ordered this great print from Society6 a while ago as it was perfect for this frame, and an image I loved. So, new white mat and some gloss white paint on a hot day later, and there's a lovely big addition to the entry hall of the Splendour.

Now, taking things a little further and really styling the hall up would be good, but I don't want to be labelled an over-achiever now do I? I think it would be a good spot for another parat that I bought recently, from the v. cool Lived In Coogee, which I currently have in the fireplace. And a new coat of paint for the table that I inherited from my great aunt would be a good thing too - colour suggestions?

So, are you ticking anything off your list this weekend? A blog related "tick off" for me has been to figure out how to set up a facebook 'page'. I had a Diversion account before, but it wasn't a page, and I didnt realise I could convert my account to a page... (Yes, I am really am that IT limited). Anyway after all that faffing, I found out shortly later that Facebook now wont allow blogs to feed automatically to Pages. WTF is with that?! Dumb stuff. So now it seems that everyone that liked me then, now likes me twice, and I have a useless Page on my hands. Too hard!

Anyway, thanks for listening to my waffle and thanks for stopping in this week!

I used to have the biggest chair crush on the good old faithful Breuer. They were on my wish list for the perfect house I had in my head around the age of 16.

Seeing that first image made me realise that I still actually quite fancy them. I see them around from time to time, often going cheap. Perhaps I should rekindle the crush.

Oh and another thing - I think white gloss paint and I should become friends.

Presence Felt

This artist's home has a look I really like. Open, light and with a shot of texture and colour that softly makes its presence felt.

The detail of the papered shelving really grabbed my eye. I'm currently playing with the idea of a Moroccan pattern for my entry. I doubt I will ever commit to wallpaper, but maybe stencilling may make a come back in my repertoire of skills.

Ever played "if I could have one thing"? Man, I do it constantly. When trawling over interior design images there is usually one thing in every home that I'd happily fleece. I try and curb the habit in real life, however have been known to say..."if you ever want to get rid of.....".

This home - that faceted white console would be my choice. I could happily welcome that into the fold here at the Splendour.

Brilliant Addition

That first image really struck a chord with me. As someone who is new to pool ownership, I still can't get over what a brilliant addition to our lifestyle it is. The not thinking twice about having to load up a car and head to the local neighbourhood pool, or pack the sunscreen and the kitchen sink for the beach. Because even though I've always lived quite close to both, so the travelling has never really been a massive chore, the ability to just wake up and walk out the back and jump in is one of the greatest joys there is!

I also really like all the vintage-ness going on in this home, but that fireplace is making me seriously kick myself. Big time. I was this > < close to buying a fireplace like that for a song a few months ago for one of the Splendour's outside patios for the very same idea - a bit of late summer evening fire side delight. But decided that I should direct the money elsewhere as it wasn't a ''must have'' it was a "want". Damn that was silly. Oh, and did I mention the one I was going to buy (for peanuts really, it was CHEAP) was 100% beautiful burnished copper?! Yes, crying into my coffee right now.

The classic neutrals in this house are beautifully applied. A lot of the time neutrals get a bad wrap as they can equal boring, but with texture and interesting forms the result is far from that.

I'm always inspired by what i see at where they create. This home was no different. Apart from all the cool collections I really clocked on to the need for me to nurture a few more (a.k.a. just one would be a good start) indoor plants.

Although I work in a related field, and have a big garden that is a work in progress but with big intentions, I've never really gone for indoor plants. I think that should change.
