"Anything is one of a million paths. Therefore you must always keep in mind that a path is only a path; if you feel you should not follow it, you must not stay with it under any conditions. To have such clarity you must lead a disciplined life. Only then will you know that any path is only a path and there is no affront, to oneself or to others, in dropping it if that is what your heart tells you to do. But your decision to keep on the path or to leave it must be free of fear or ambition. I warn you. Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary. This question is one that only a very old man asks. Does this path have a heart? All paths are the same: they lead nowhere. They are paths going through the bush, or into the bush. In my own life I could say I have traversed long long paths, but I am not anywhere. Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn't, it is of no use. Both paths lead nowhere; but one has a heart, the other doesn't. One makes for a joyful journey; as long as you follow it, you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. One makes you strong; the other weakens you.

Before you embark on any path ask the question: Does this path have a heart? If the answer is no, you will know it, and then you must choose another path. The trouble is nobody asks the question; and when a man finally realizes that he has taken a path without a heart, the path is ready to kill him. At that point very few men can stop to deliberate, and leave the path. A path without a heart is never enjoyable. You have to work hard even to take it. On the other hand, a path with heart is easy; it does not make you work at liking it.

I have told you that to choose a path you must be free from fear and ambition. The desire to learn is not ambition. It is our lot as men to want to know. The path without a heart will turn against men and destroy them. It does not take much to die, and to seek death is to seek nothing. For me there is only the traveling on the paths that have a heart, on any path that may have a heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge for me is to traverse its full length. And there I travel -- looking, looking, breathlessly."

Hello Kiddies,
I would like to once again welcome you to 'The Dork Group' for this years Summer Edition 2011.

As I have mentioned here on my previous post - that I had a couple pieces of really big news to share with you. I am very pleased to announce that Nadia and I have recently got married and we are expecting a baby here in December. After a few heartbreaks, and setback after setback that took place this year - with my mother passing away, and things not going according to plan - this year made a huge turnaround. I am very happy, and I hope that this blessing will keep going in the direction that it is going.

In the middle of July - Nadia and I are going to find out what sex the baby is going to be. We are hoping for a boy - but I will be more than happy with whatever the outcome may be.
Anyway, I am a very fortunate man to be surrounded by the ones I love.

So, without further ado - I would like to say thank you all for your love and support. It has meant everything. On with the show!

Hello Kiddies,
I would like to welcome you all back to The Dork Group. As what I have mentioned in my last post - I would like to make my posts a little more frequent and a little bit less in size. If the formula works, that is yet to be seen with me. With my obsessive compulsion, and insomniac ways I believe we stand a good chance of it working.

Hello Kiddies, and welcome to the Spring Edition of The Dork Group. Let me get right to biznass here - what I would like to attempt from here on out is making little smaller blogs, and be able to distribute more of what I have seen and heard a little more frequently. It is by far not a new concept, but it is something I would like to get back into again. My main problem is time and putting things in somewhat order around here.

So, just so we understand each other - a lot of things that do get posted, or will be posted here were things already posted on my facebook or my twitter account. The Dork Group was primarily built to catch the run off - of those sites. But, this site also houses things that do not get posted in the other two sites. Also, I am not sure how much music and things I will be listing here from now on, because when I do post them - I tend to get shut down a lot faster. But, we'll give it a try. Anyway, so just making sure we have a clear understanding of where it is I am coming from. Wherever that is?

Hello Kiddies!

Welcome back to a special summer edition of

The Dork Group

In this edition ~ I would like to take you back to what I promised my 'Facebook' kids a couple months ago ~ (that is when I promised a full blown art issue).

Now, if you haven't been following (which I completely understand) ~ I will briefly catch you up-to-date. The Dork Group was under some turmoil from a few postings that I have made here (which shut some of my postings temporarily down, to completely shutting some of them off). All of which is understandable, and within reason.

So, in this special issue I have decided to turn the volume down and hopefully not raise so many eyebrows. So, we will just keep this issue between you and me :)

Ha! - Anyway, hopefully in this special issue we will just stay under the radar long enough to not create anymore unwanted distractions, or raise anymore eyebrows. I am completely wanting to remain out of the all-seeing-eye. In this day and age - I am finding it harder to do.

*On a personal note:
My summer has rocked so far! Well, besides hearing some really bad news from home. I will remain positive however (in my head & heart) that it will all workout for the better. We Gumm's have a mechanism that shuts off a lot of bad things we hear... you may call it denial, if you choose to do so. I have. I hope and believe that your summer is going just as smooth ~ and as well...

Authority is supposedly grounded in wisdom, but I could see from a very early age that authority was only a system of control and it didn't have any inherent wisdom. I quickly realised that you either became a power or you were crushed.

I think we're going to have to forget about the radio and just go back to word of mouth.

If I had five million pounds I'd start a radio station because something needs to be done. It would be nice to turn on the radio and hear something that didn't make you feel like smashing up the kitchen and strangling the cat.

I'd like to say people can change anything they want to; and that means everything in the world. People are running about following their little tracks. I am one of them. But we've all gotta stop... just stop following our own little mouse trail. People can do anything; this is something that I'm beginning to learn. People are out there doing bad things to each other; it's because they've been dehumanized. It's time to take that humanity back into the centre of the ring and follow that for a time. Greed... it ain't going anywhere! They should have that on a big billboard across Times Square. Think on that. Without people you're nothing.

~ Hello Kiddies,
Once again, I am going to primarily going to focus on one band in this issue. It helps me keep my focus a little longer, and The Clash is a band that certainly deserves my focus and attention.

I was a young child when I first heard of The Clash, and from the moment I first heard them I knew that I was hooked. But, being young and foolish you fall in and out of love really easily. Which a lot of young kids do. It's natural. But, I can't be the total hardcore 'oi' group and say I've stood by there side from the beginning. I have, but I have not always waved their flag. If you read any of my posts (God help you) you'll see my musical tastes vary from one extreme to the other. Hell, it's music - and that's what its for. I am one of those people that can bounce from Classic to Country in a heartbeat, then go onto rock, rap, industrial, to indie without the blink of an eye. I don't have time for classification and what should be played when. I'll leave that to the wanna-be-elite that think they are cool for posting the most recent, up to date garbage that is getting spoon fed to us all. Their are plenty of sites doing just that. Thankfully, I am not one.

Anyway, as I was saying... I have always loved The Clash, and I believe I always will. They have crossed over so many borders of what they should have just been classified in. So, for me that makes them timeless. When I listen to them now, I remember the punk who I was when I first heard them, and I see the punk that I am now being influenced by them.

Being older, you're vision may fail, but you are given the gift of insight. Which to me sometimes knowing what you are seeing makes all the difference...

Anyway, enjoy The Clash like I always have...

For most of their recording career, The Clash consisted of Joe Strummer (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Mick Jones (lead guitar, vocals), Paul Simonon (bass, backing vocals, occasional lead vocals) and Nicky "Topper" Headon (drums, percussion). Headon left the group in 1982, and internal friction led to Jones's departure the following year. The group continued with new members, but finally disbanded in early 1986.
The Clash were a major success in the UK from the release of their debut album, The Clash, in 1977. Their third album, London Calling, released in the UK in December 1979, brought them popularity in the United States when it came out there the following month. Critically acclaimed, it was declared the best album of the 1980s a decade later by Rolling Stone magazine.
The Clash's politicised lyrics, musical experimentation and rebellious attitude had a far-reaching influence on rock, alternative rock in particular. They became widely referred to as "The Only Band That Matters", originally a promotional slogan introduced by the group's record label, CBS. In January 2003 the band—including original drummer Terry Chimes—were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked The Clash number 30 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time."

I know the exact feeling. David is the nice one. Gumm who acknowledges to Gummby causes a lot of trouble. And we constantly fight.

This issue is going to strictly to Johnny Cash. I have recently picked up his very last album, the final set of songs he recorded with producer Rick Rubin. American VI: Ain't No Grave. And I am just as grateful as when I first heard him years and years before. As I have mentioned time and time again "One of the true, greatest legends a man could ever be." He walked it like he talked it, and he carried himself the way a real man should.

I am not going to get carried away, and submit everything in his portfolio, just a few of the songs and media that I personally like. There are many sites and publications out there if you find a great interest like I have.

Johnny Cash's Very Last Performance.

"As his career was taking off in the early 1960s, Cash started drinking heavily and became addicted to amphetamines and barbiturates. For a brief time, he shared an apartment in Nashville with Waylon Jennings, who was heavily addicted to amphetamines. Cash used the uppers to stay awake during tours. Friends joked about his "nervousness" and erratic behavior, many ignoring the warning signs of his worsening drug addiction. In a behind-the-scenes look at The Johnny Cash Show, Cash claims to have "tried every drug there was to try."
Although in many ways spiraling out of control, Cash's frenetic creativity was still delivering hits. His rendition of "Ring of Fire" was a crossover hit, reaching No. 1 on the country charts and entering the Top 20 on the pop charts. The song was written by June Carter and Merle Kilgore. The song was originally performed by Carter's sister, but the signature mariachi-style horn arrangement was provided by Cash, who said that it had come to him in a dream.
In June 1965, his truck caught fire due to an overheated wheel bearing, triggering a forest fire that burned several hundred acres in Los Padres National Forest in California. When the judge asked Cash why he did it, Cash said, "I didn't do it, my truck did, and it's dead, so you can't question it." Cash was unrepentant: "I don't care about your damn yellow buzzards." The federal government sued him and was awarded $125,172 ($863,091 in current dollar terms). Although Cash carefully cultivated a romantic outlaw image, he never served a prison sentence. Despite landing in jail seven times for misdemeanors, each stay lasted only a single night. His most infamous run-in with the law occurred while on tour in 1965, when he was arrested by a narcotics squad in El Paso, Texas. The officers suspected that he was smuggling heroin from Mexico, but it was prescription narcotics and amphetamines that the singer had hidden inside his guitar case. Because they were prescription drugs rather than illegal narcotics, he received a suspended sentence.

It was Rick Rubin's idea. We were looking for a song that we felt had an impact. He found this one, and he asked me what I thought of it. I said, "I think it's probably the best antidrug song I ever heard, but I don't think it's for me." And he said, "Why?" I said, "Because it's not my style, it's not the way I do it." And he said, "What if it were?" And I said, "Well, I could give it a try." So I went out and recorded it. When I listened to it, I felt it came out all right.

How do you go about turning an industrial-metal song like Hurt into a Johnny Cash song?

I would just get down and do it until I felt like I was doing it with feeling. I probably sang the song 100 times before I went in and recorded it, because I had to make it mine.

A good hunter changes his ways as often as he needs. A hunter must not only know about the habits of his prey, he also must know that there are powers on this earth that guide men and animals and everything that is living. Powers that guide our lives and our deaths.
All of us are fools. You always feel compelled to explain your acts, as if you were the only man on earth who's wrong. It's your old feeling of importance. You have too much of it; you also have too much personal history. On the other hand, you don't assume responsibility for your acts; you're not using your death as an adviser, and above all you are too accessible.
One must assume responsibility for being in a weird world. For you the world is weird because if you're not bored with it you're at odds with it. For me the world is weird because it is stupendous, awesome, mysterious, unfathomable; my interest has been to convince you that you must assume responsibility for being here, in this marvelous world, in this marvelous desert, in this marvelous time. I want to convince you that you must learn to make every act count, since you are going to be here for only a short while, in fact, too short for witnessing all the marvels of it.
Change! If you do not respond to that challenge you are as good as dead. You have never taken the responsibility for being in this unfathomable world. Therefore, you were never an artist, and perhaps you'll never be a hunter. There is one simple thing wrong with you--you think you have plenty of time. You think your life is going to last forever.
Now you're vehemently asserting some non-sense. You don't have time for this display. This, whatever you're doing now, may be your last act on earth. It may very well be your last battle. Acts have power. Especially when the person acting knows that those acts are his last battle. There is a strange consuming happiness in acting with the full knowledge that whatever one is doing may very well be one's last act on earth. I recommend that you reconsider your life and bring your acts into that light.
You don't have time, my friend. That is the misfortune of human beings. None of us have sufficient time. Your acts cannot possibly have the flair, the power, the compelling force of the acts performed by a man who knows that he is fighting his last battle on earth.
We are all going to die. There is something out there waiting for me, for sure; and I will join it, also for sure. Use it. Focus your attention on the link between you and your death, without remorse or sadness or worrying. Focus your attention on the fact you don't have time and let your acts flow accordingly. Let each of your acts be your last battle on earth. Only under those conditions will your acts have their rightful power. Otherwise they will be, for as long as you live, the acts of a timid man. There is no time for timidity, simply because timidity makes you cling to something that exists only in your thoughts. It soothes you while everything is at a lull, but then the awesome, mysterious world will open its mouth for you, as it will open for every one of us, and then you will realize that your sure ways were not sure at all. Being timid prevents us from examining and exploiting our lot as men.
Our death is waiting and this very act we're performing now may well be our last battle on earth. I call it a battle because it is a struggle. Most people move from act to act without any struggle or thought. A hunter, on the contrary, assesses every act; and since he has an intimate knowledge of his death, he proceeds judiciously, as if every act were his last battle. Only a fool would fail to notice the advantage a hunter has over his fellow men. A hunter gives his last battle its due respect. It's only natural that his last act on earth should be the best of himself. It's pleasurable that way. It dulls the edge of his fright.
I've told you, this is a weird world. The forces that guide men are unpredictable, awesome, yet their splendor is something to witness. Call them forces, spirits, airs, winds, or anything like that.
At moments of power, the world of ordinary affairs does not exist and nothing can be taken for granted.

I am David Allen Gumm and you are at one of the last ad free sites online. Well, one that actually has substance. I am not saying what kind of substance, but I will say that there is something here. And that little part - is that little part of me. It is very little, but you're not paying to get in, nor are you bombarded with the normal projections of everyday life. Just a little look over the edge of my deep abyss. Or something wax poetic like that.

Ever since my 'close call' in Florida, things have become very peculiar for me. Maybe I missed such obvious signs before, because I have been consumed by my own trappings. But something or someone is whispering things to me that I have never paid attention to before. I guess how Don Juan would put it 'my advisor'. But I believe that mud puddle goes a little deeper. Hmmm, but I am seriously on to something here. Things just aren't the same. I tried to go back to my other life, but there are forces drastically pushing the other way. And the thing is, I am listening. I am watching, and I guess you can say I am hunting.

Well, we have made good progress here today... but I am afraid that our time is up. I want you to work on that this week. Find what is talking to you. Is it your normal internal voice, or voices? Or is it coming from somewhere else? It's hard, believe me to find the quiet place - to where you can tell where your thoughts are coming from. But - focus. Or try not to focus on everyday things. See where that little road takes you. It may just lead you to something you never knew.

Greetings Kids!

In this months issue of The Dork Group I am going to go a little all over the place. Oh, I guess I should fill you in a little of what I have been up to over my Christmas and News Years break / vacation (whatever)... quickly in a nut shell - moved in with my beautiful girlfriend. and we are planning on remodeling the house... well at least a fresh coat of paint, among other things - making it a happy little home for us - for the time being... went to see a plastic surgeon, and was placed on antibiotics for a gland that has gone rogue on my face... I went into *anaphylactic shock from this antibiotic (*–noun Pathology. a severe and sometimes fatal allergic reaction to a foreign substance, esp. a protein, as serum or bee venom, to which an individual has become sensitized, often involving rapid swelling, acute respiratory distress, and collapse of circulation). I almost died, rushed to the ER, injected with epinephrine and all sorts of good stuff.

Now, I have had quite a few close calls in my life, big surf wipe-outs, car accidents that should have been worse than what they were, etc, etc... thankfully, with the quick reaction (besides the checking in part) the Emergency Crew brought me back pretty fast. Fun stuff kids! I wouldn't recommend trying this at home...

So, lately after the incident everything has had the volume turned way down. I feel relief along with this "near life experience" that I got to experience as Tyler Durden would say. But, I have been 'pushing it' here lately. Getting myself into a lot of trouble. But, there has been nothing new in that department. I will try to take it down a few notches and consider myself very fortunate of my good luck.

Anyway, enough of the chatter box for now - I will now hand over the goods - thank you for stopping by... and as always "smell you later"

If you haven't done so already, I would and I have trashed other web-browsers that you are using and adopt Google Chrome.

Chrome is Google's attempt to make the Web browser disappear and to focus on the applications and pages users are viewing, rather than on the border with its tools. Some of Chrome's basic underpinnings are quite novel, but people will recognize other features as they exist in other, open-source Web browsers on the market today.

Chrome is blazingly fast and is easily the quickest browser available. Based on Webkit, the same open-source engine that powers Apple Safari, Google's Android mobile platform, and several other Web-browsing tools, Chrome's interface is a drastic departure from other browsers. Instead of the traditional toolbar, Chrome puts its tabs on top. Moreover, the tabs are detachable: "tabs" and "windows" are interchangeable here. Detached tabs can be dragged and dropped into the browser, and tabs can be rearranged at any time. By isolating each tab's processes, when one site crashes, the other tabs do not.

So, I would do yourself "a solid" and get rid of the other pigs that love to drown your system, and bog your memory down, I would get Chrome. But, I am just an IT guy that loves to view the web the way it's suppose to. What do I know...

Squirrel Nut Zippers - "Hell"

"The Squirrel Nut Zippers is a band formed in 1993 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina by James "Jimbo" Mathus (vocals and guitar), Katharine Whalen (vocals, banjo, and ukulele), Chris Phillips on drums, Don Raleigh on bass and sideman Ken Mosher.

While the band's eclectic fusion of Delta blues, gypsy jazz, 1930s-era swing, klezmer, and other styles makes them hard to categorize, their unique music found a niche in the late 1990's, when the band met with national recognition and commercial success, sometimes associated with the Swing Revival of the same period.

After a hiatus of several years, the original band members reunited and took to the stage again in 2007, playing select dates around the United States through 2008.

They played the last night of The Voodoo Experience held at City Park in New Orleans, Louisiana over Halloween weekend 2009."

Hamsher and Murphy subsequently sold the screenplay to Warner Bros. Around the same time, Oliver Stone was made aware of the script. He was keen to find something more straightforward than his previous production, Heaven & Earth; a difficult shoot which had left him exhausted, and he felt that Natural Born Killers could be what he was looking for."

Otis Redding - "(Sittin' On) The Dock By The Bay"

"Otis Ray Redding, Jr. (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967) was an American soul singer. Often called the "King of Soul", he is renowned for an ability to convey strong emotion through his voice. According to the website of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (where he was inducted in 1989), Redding's name is "synonymous with the term soul, music that arose out of the black experience in America through the transmutation of gospel and rhythm and blues into a form of funky, secular testifying." In addition, rock critic Jon Landau said in 1967 that '"Otis Redding is rock & roll". Redding died in a plane crash at the age of 26, one month before his biggest hit, "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay", was released.

Mazzy Star - "Five String Serenade"

"Mazzy Star is an American alternative rock band formed in Santa Monica in 1989 from the group Opal, a collaboration of guitarist David Roback and bassist Kendra Smith. Smith's friend Hope Sandoval became the group's vocalist when Smith left the band.

Mazzy Star is probably best known for the song "Fade into You" which brought the band some success in the early to mid 1990s and was the group's biggest mainstream hit, earning radio and MTV airplay. Roback and Sandoval were the creative center of the band, with Sandoval writing most of the lyrics and Roback composing most of the music.

Malakian has confirmed the break will probably last a few years, which Odadjian specified as a minimum of three years in an interview with Guitar magazine. He told MTV, "We're not breaking up. My girlfriend and I recently saw them play in Ybor City. Motorhead was playing with them also. It was a really good show. We got to meet Jim and Jimbo after the show and they are two of the nicest guys ever... Except Jim was making moves on my girl... hee hee - bastard :) All in all it was a star studded night and we got to see some of our friends roaming around the venue. Great show...

OutKast - "85"

"Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh were childhood friends having grown up in the same Long Beach neighborhood. Eric's father Billy Wilson taught Gaugh how to read music and play the drums. About this time, Bradley Nowell joined the band.

Well, I would like to be the first to welcome you & myself back to

The Dork Group

It has been such a long time since this place has shined. I put a new face on this site in March of 2009 and haven't been happy with it or back since. So, I took some time off from blogging... I traveled around this great nation of ours, and discovered that I was content without having to inform the rest of the blog~sphere of what it is I am doing, or what I was looking at or listening to.

In this time off - I have killed myspace for various reasons, and other than pitching what I am listening to on Facebook every now and then, I have just lived a somewhat normal life. Well, as normal as someone like me can live it.

And I couldn't be much happier. Well, I could - but I won't get into that now. Let's just say it's a scheme I am working on. Total bliss is its code name... and by Cesar's ghost I am going to get it...

Hell-o my favorite children. It has been a while since I have been here. I would give out the usual apologies, but it's summer and I have a somewhat semi-charmed, semi-interesting life.

I have been on the road here the last few months. All over the great state of Texas. It's called the "Fuck you" state for a reason. Kidding! But you certainly can fuck off in Texas. But, it's a place you don't mess with. My next stop is Southern Mexico. Which is sweet! I will be working with some hot Spanish girls. Always a bonus. Also hoping for some good surf.

I've been at corporate headquarters in Houston for the last few weeks and it has been very cool. Actually thinking really hard on moving there. But, I love Florida. Eh, we'll see. So many things going on. And they are all pointing to the greater good.

Blah, blah. I know. But, there has been so many positive good things in my life lately. Not quite sure what to make of it? Just encountering, good people, good places. The family is somewhat happy, which in turn makes me happy. It is good to be home. Life goes on.

"Five friends from Wiltshire, David Harman, Trevor Davies, John Dymond, Michael Wilson and Ian Amey, formed a group in 1961 called Dave Dee And The Bostons. They soon gave up their jobs (e.g. Dave Dee was a policeman) to make money from music. Apart from performing in Britain, they also occasionally played in Hamburg (Star-Club, Top Ten Club), and in Cologne (Storyville).

Vocalist Dee, the ex-policeman, was at the scene of the automobile accident that took the life of American rocker Eddie Cochran and injured Gene Vincent in April 1960. Dee had taken Cochran's guitar from the accident and held it until it could be returned to his family."

Jeff Healey - "How Blue Can You Get"

"Jeff Healey (born Norman Jeffrey Healey, March 25, 1966 – March 2, 2008) was a blind Canadian jazz and blues-rock guitarist and vocalist. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Healey was raised in the city's west end. He was adopted as an infant; his adoptive father was a firefighter. Healey lost his sight when he was eight months old, due to retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eyes. His eyes had to be surgically removed, and he was given artificial replacements. After living cancer-free for 38 years, he subsequently developed sarcoma (an unrelated cancer) in his legs; despite surgery for this, the sarcoma spread to his lungs and ultimately killed him. He began playing guitar when he was three, developing his unique style of playing the instrument flat on his lap.
