TPB A DAY 24: The Deviant - YAY!

2026-10-23T10:29:02.353-07:00

YAY - As someone who hasn’t been keeping up with what’s happening in Marvel’s magic-verse, I found this to be a GREAT standalone story! The narrative’s ebb and flow was skillfully paced, with backstories woven in naturally to enrich the overall tapestry. Introducing new cosmic forces into Marvel’s mythos was a real treat, and seeing the lore expand made for a fascinating read. The art never missed a beat, remaining perfectly in sync with the story from beginning to end. I don’t know where the seeds of this new lore will lead, but I hope they grow into many new branches that the creators will explore in the future!

DORK PLAN: I’m going to read one TPB a day from my 5,000+ strong TPB collection. I’ll post the one I read here the next day with a YAY or NAY, and maybe a line or two about what I thought. NOTE: Got a TPB you want me to read? Drop it in the comments! If I have it, I’ll give it a review.

MUST SEE - Predator: Badlands

2026-10-23T02:00:00.000-07:00

MUST SEE: This movie is PERFECT & I wouldn’t change a thing! It’s packed with action, comedy, and heart - it was my favorite movie of 2025! And the fact that it was inspired by Chewbacca carrying C-3PO in The Empire Strikes Back - well fuck yeah!

PLOT: A young Predator outcast from his clan finds an unlikely ally on his journey in search of the ultimate adversary.

FAN CUTS of the ETERNALS & JUSTICE LEAGUE TRINITY

2026-10-22T16:01:04.017-07:00

DORK NOTE: Check out these fan cuts of the movies below - THEY’RE AWESOME! The links lead to a site where you can stream them!

ETERNALS: In my opinion, Eternals was a terrible movie, but this fan cut actually makes it WATCHABLE! It looks like they trimmed some scenes, rearranged others, and added deleted footage. Whatever they did, it definitely works better than the original!

JUSTICE LEAGUE TRINITY: Despite the name, this is NOT a fan cut of Justice League - it’s a fan cut of Batman v Superman! It looks like they incorporated scenes from Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad, while rearranging and shortening other scenes to make the movie flow better. Unfortunately, the whole “Martha” bullshit is still in there, but I guess they couldn’t figure out a way to fix that garbage. Honestly, I liked this version WAY better than the original Batman v Superman!

Electra Woman and Dyna Girl

Electra Woman and Dyna Girl (stylized as ElectraWoman and DynaGirl) is a live action superhero children's television series from 1976 created by Sid and Marty Krofft.

PREMISE: The program followed the crime-fighting exploits of caped superhero Electra Woman (played by Deidre Hall) and her teen sidekick Dyna Girl (Judy Strangis), who worked in their normal lives as reporters for Newsmaker Magazine (the two's surnames were never revealed—just their first names: Lori and Judy, respectively). In each episode, the duo dons brightly-colored spandex costumes, in a bright flash of light called an "Electra-Change"; get into the "ElectraCar"; and use an array of technically-advanced gadgets to thwart an eclectic collection of supervillains. They were assisted by Frank Heflin (Norman Alden), a scientist who stayed at their "ElectraBase", operating its highly sophisticated "CrimeScope" computer while keeping in continual contact with the pair through their "ElectraComs".

ELECTRACAR: The car from the Electra Woman and Dyna Girl series (1976) (the famous "ElectraCar") was not designed by a single renowned automotive designer; instead, it was conceived by the art direction and set design team at Sid & Marty Krofft Television Productions. Because the series had a limited budget and the vehicle needed to look like an electrically powered "spaceship," it was built at the production company's own studios in West Hollywood, California, using the science-fiction set-design techniques of the era.

X-Men #141 Copycat Covers

2026-10-20T12:26:30.112-07:00

Updated:10/20/26:
I'm beginning to suspect X-Men #141 has the most recreations of any comic cover. This is one of those posts that will forever get updates! Let me know if you learn of any others in the comments section and I will add 'em!

Cover of The Uncanny X-Men 141 (Jan, 1981). Art by John Byrne and Terry Austin.

I think this one counts...

Dork Note: I have always wondered how John Byrne came up with the idea. Now I don't have any insight beyond speculation. However, seeing the splash page from Iron Fist #10 done by John Byrne in 1979 the root of his idea is apparent.

Rob's Room Note: I also found this What If? cover from 1978...

Ferran Delgado said on-line, "Just a reminder that Byrne drew the iconic X-Men #141 cover from a layout by Hannigan (Byrne admitted it). Hannigan told me that editor Salicrup asked him to use as reference the Wings cover. Jim Salicrup was the editor of X-Men till he resigned when the end of #137 was changed. This is another evidence that "Days of Future Past" was pitched as a Graphic Novel before #137. Other evidence supports this, including Byrne's comments in an interview conducted when the new ending of #137 was drawn or the silly ad laid out by Salicrup.

Ralph Phillips first appeared in "From A to Z-Z-Z-Z" in 1954, and then "Boyhood Daze" in 1957. The former was nominated for an Academy Award.

NOTE: According to the ToonHeads episode "Ralph Phillips", Chuck Jones named Ralph after animator Jack Phillips, and Ralph's personality is said to be based off director Chuck Jones' own imaginative and daydreamy personality

Ralph Phillips also appeared in the TV Pilot Adventures of the Road-Runner, "Zip Zip Hooray!"
