In this episode, we get a sneak preview of the new CD by Joel Quarrington “Garden Scene”.

While I was on vacation this summer in Canada, I went to see Joel perform at the “Festival of the Sound” in Parry Sound, Ontario. At dinner after a great performance of the famous Rossini Duet, Joel presented me with an advance copy of his new CD and asked me if I could use it on the Double Bass Podcast.

That was a no brainer, so here it is. I talk over the selected tracks because I want to encourage everybody to buy their own copy of the CD. Joel’s web site states that it is going to be released on the 22 of September 2009, but it looks like some of the distributors have already released the recording.

Check the Shownotes for direct links or go to the ANALEKTA web site or iTunes to pick up your copy of the CD (its only 8.99EUR for the entire CD which includes a digital booklet).

If you would like me to address a topic or theme in an upcoming podcast, please send your request to DoubleBassCast. Thanks!

Don’t forget to consider hitting the “Donate” button to the right. A couple of bucks will really help me offset the server costs. I don’t want to resort to advertising in order to keep the show running.

I hope you enjoy this episode of the Double Bass Cast Podcast. Please email me with any questions or comments.

Thanks for listening!

In this episode of the DoubleBassCast I interview Canadian Double Bassist Joel Quarrington (part three).

In this last installation of the interview, Joel and I talked (finally) about ‘Tuning in Fifths’. We also talked about ‘Instruments and other Gear’ as well as Joel’s ‘Upcoming Events and Projects’ which by now have passed into the annals of history – but interesting nevertheless.

In this episode of the DoubleBassCast I bring you an interview with Dietmar Engels – Principal Doublebass of the Coburg Opera House in Germany.

This episode is all about the Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra by Jean Francaix written in 1975.

Dietmar is a good friend from a couple of years ago when he came to sub in my section in Tenerife. He’s a great guy and I hope you enjoy his insights into the music by Francaix.

This is not a well known concerto for our instrument but after having spent time interviewing Dietmar and studying the score I realize that this is a wonderful piece that should be performed more often.

In this episode I try to explain why I’ve been reluctant to produce more episodes of The Basscast. It seems that I was infringing on a trademark belonging to another podcaster.

Well, hopefully with a new name for the podcast and a new website, email address and all the rest I can move on and start podcasting again about the Double Bass.

There may be some stray links and stuff so if you see one please let me know. I have tried to tidy it all up but sometimes a few escape…
